Place the tar layer in the image blob store.
Line 58 calculates the digest of ./large-layer.tar, but the script does not place that file at ./img/blobs/sha256/${large_layer_digest#sha256:}. The manifest therefore references a missing blob. The push cannot exercise the large-layer upload. Copy or move the tar layer to its digest path before the push.

Content-Rangeon large-blob PATCH requests.The
oci pushdocs describe a generic registry destination. Whensize > STREAMING_UPLOAD_THRESHOLD, this code sends the blob in one PATCH between the upload POST and digest-finalizing PUT. That is a one-chunk upload, not the monolithic POST flow. OCI Distribution Spec v1.1.0 requiresContent-Rangeon chunk-upload PATCHes.build_upload_requestomits it, so a registry that enforces the requirement can reject the layer and fail the push. Add the inclusive0-(size - 1)range and keep the single PATCH.Suggested fix

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
The upload PATCH has no read timeout and no overall deadline.
HTTP_UPLOAD omits the read timeout, and send_once_inner adds no per-request timeout for ClientKind::Http. upload_blob_once calls .send() directly. After the body finishes sending, a registry or proxy can hold the connection open without sending a response, for example a stalled GHCR edge. In that case mise oci push waits forever, and retry_transient! never runs because no timeout error occurs. Before this change, the read timeout caught that stall.
Add a bound that still lets slow uploads finish. One option is a request timeout scaled to size. Another is a short response deadline that starts after the body stream finishes.

Fixes #14016.
Large
mise oci pushlayers previously crossed the 64 MiB threshold into multiple rangedPATCHrequests. GHCR rejects the later non-empty patch with416 Range Not Satisfiable, so the image could not be pushed.Large blobs now stream from disk in one
PATCHwithoutContent-Range, followed by the existing zero-bytePUT ?digest=finalization. This keeps memory bounded and matches the single-PATCH flow accepted by GHCR and ECR. Small blobs continue to use the existing monolithicPUTpath.Compatibility
This intentionally trades the previous 64 MiB per-request cap for compatibility with registries that do not support more than one non-empty PATCH. Registries or proxies with a smaller request-body limit may still reject an oversized single PATCH; this PR adds no new configuration or fallback behavior.
Validation
crane validatecoverage.cargo fmt --check, the focused protocol regression test, andbash -nfor the E2E script.AI-assisted — Tool: Codex; model: OpenAI/GPT-5; version: unavailable.
Note
Medium Risk
Changes OCI push networking and HTTP client timeout behavior for large uploads; mistakes could affect registry compatibility or hang/retry semantics, but scope is mostly push paths with added regression coverage.
Overview
Large OCI layers (>64 MiB) now upload via one disk-streamed
PATCHwithoutContent-Range, then the existing zero-bytePUT ?digest=finalize — replacing multi-chunk ranged PATCHes that GHCR rejects with416.To support slow streaming bodies, the HTTP layer adds
HTTP_UPLOAD(connect timeout only, no reqwest read timeout) and anUploadWatchthat extends the deadline as upload bytes flow and fails stalled uploads with retryableTimedOutI/O errors. Registry push usessend_uploadso 401 auth retries rebuild a fresh stream body.Tests and CI: protocol regression for the single PATCH path, upload-watch unit tests, a streaming-upload HTTP test, a longer nextest override for the large-blob test, and OCI push E2E extended with a ~65 MiB layer plus updated push expectations.
