uv_index_url turns a <root>/pypi/{}/json registry template into
<root>/pypi/simple/. PyPI and JFrog Artifactory serve the simple
index at <root>/simple/, so mise lock fails for every pypi: tool
on such a registry.

Change the unit test to expect <root>/simple/, and add an
Artifactory-shaped case and a case showing that only a pypi path
segment is dropped. Give the notpypi.org case a path prefix so that a
host check matching it as pypi.org fails.

Stop the e2e fixture from serving the simple index at /pypi/simple/.
Because it served both paths, test_pypi_lock passed with either
mapping.

Out of scope

A registry template for a simple index whose path does not end in simple, such as devpi's
https://devpi.example.com/root/pypi/+simple/{}/, still gets /simple/ appended, so uv is
pointed at .../+simple/simple/. That behaviour predates this PR and this PR does not change it.

Summary by CodeRabbit

Summary

  • Bug Fixes
    • Private package registry URLs with nested paths, including Artifactory and /api/ paths, now resolve to the corresponding package index by removing a trailing /pypi segment when constructing the index URL.
    • The test package server no longer treats /pypi/simple/ paths as package-index requests; those paths receive a not-found response. Standard /simple/ paths continue to use the package-index response.

RetriggerConfidence Score: 5/5

[High risk] Changes how package registry URLs are normalized for lockfile resolution.

The PR appears safe to merge; no new actionable issue was found.

What we checked:

  • Simple URLs keep their prefix: The server path loses its terminal pypi segment only when the registry template ends in /json. Existing simple-index templates keep their prefix.

Summary

Fixes uv_index_url so JSON registry templates at <root>/pypi/{}/json map to <root>/simple/.

  • Adds cases for nested Artifactory paths, lookalike hosts, and prefixes without a terminal pypi segment.
  • Removes the fixture’s /pypi/simple/ route so it no longer hides the incorrect mapping.
  • deiga explicitly deferred the existing devpi +simple problem because this PR does not change that behavior.
