#928 warns in development when a form wrapper inside a Control drops Control-level props, and tells you to set them on that Control. Its last review found a dead end in that advice for the date and time pickers, and the fix was pushed just after #928 merged, so it lands here.

A picker's own Control draws a default left icon (calendar, clock or calendar-alt). If you pass iconLeftSize or hasIconsLeft to a picker inside your own Control, the warning said to set them on that Control, but a Control with no glyph shows nothing for either, so following the advice lost the icon. When one of those is dropped and the caller set no left icon of their own (iconLeftName="" counts as a choice), the advice now also names the picker's default, for example iconLeftName="calendar" (its default icon), so following it draws what the picker's own Control did. The default on its own still never warns, and rendered output is unchanged.

A new test per picker checks that the advice names the default and that a Control set up as advised renders the same markup as the picker's own; each failed before the change. Input, Select and TextArea have no default glyph, so their advice is unchanged.

Overall: The change is sound and narrowly scoped. needsGlyph fires only when the caller set no left icon of their own, and the glyph is appended to the advice rather than to held, so the named and doNothing halves of the message and the return value of rendersOwnControl are all untouched, and rendered output genuinely does not move. I verified that empirically rather than by reading: src/form is green (42 suites, 2461 tests), FormContext.tsx holds 100% branch coverage from bare-control.test.tsx alone, typecheck:tests is clean, and the new markup-equality assertion really does compare the advised Control against the one the picker renders itself — the iconLeft || (iconLeftName ? … ) fallback at Control.tsx:168-187 makes a Control given hasIconsLeft and iconLeftName="calendar" reproduce the picker's hasIconsLeft || !!iconLeftName exactly. The riskiest part is where a human should look first: the message is no longer a pure function of the warn-once key, a divergence this PR introduces, and the two new tests that assert both forms of it stay apart only because resetDevWarnings() runs between them.

An empty iconLeftName together with iconLeftSize at a single site still getting dead-end advice — refuted as a regression: with an empty iconLeftName the Control the picker renders computes hasIconsLeft || !!iconLeftName as false and leftIconValue as undefined, so no glyph was lost there either. Pre-existing shape, and the new Input test documents it.
Docs and skills drift — checked, not posted. The picker API pages ("Its default left icon is left out there too, without a warning, since you did not set it.") and skills/bestax-form/references/api.md:45 still carry only the generic "set them on that Control" advice, and neither is made false by this change; the docs example already sets iconLeftName on the wrapping Control.

🏄 Tasty little clean-up, dude — the old advice sent you paddling out with no board, and now it hands you the calendar right along with it. Just one eddy left: two spots hash to the same warn-once wave, so only the first one ever breaks.

The warn-once key named only the props a wrapper dropped, but the advice now also depends on whether the caller chose a left icon. A picker given iconLeftSize with iconLeftName="" and one given iconLeftSize alone named the same props and shared a key, so whichever rendered first decided the advice both got. The warning is now keyed by its message, so two calls that would advise differently each warn. The suite also reads the glyph each wrapper's own Control draws by default from the recording, and checks that the advice for a moved iconLeftSize or hasIconsLeft names it and draws what that Control did. A wrapper that gains a default glyph fails there until it passes it to the helper.

What I checked

#1 — rendersOwnControl now calls warnOnce(message, message), so the key is the advice. An iconLeftName="" leaves needsGlyph false (options.iconLeftName === undefined fails on the empty string) while an omitted iconLeftName makes it true, so the two build different messages for the identical held and can no longer collide. The new "warns separately for $name sites that hide the icon and that keep the default" test renders both sites in one page with no resetDevWarnings() between them and asserts two warnings in order — one without the glyph, one with.
#2 — the hand-written defaultIcon column is no longer the only source of truth. The new case over ownsControl reads the glyph each wrapper's own Control actually received from the recording mock, asserts the advice names exactly that glyph for both iconLeftSize and hasIconsLeft, and asserts that a Control built as advised renders the same outerControl HTML the wrapper rendered standalone. A wrapper that gains a default glyph without passing defaultIconLeftName has a truthy recorded iconLeftName while needsGlyph stays false, so the expected advice string is absent and the test fails.

Test runs: jest src/form/__tests__/bare-control.test.tsx → 231/231 pass; targeted -t runs confirm the two new cases execute (3 and 20 cases respectively); full jest src/form → 42 suites, 2484 tests, all green.

Overall: This pass settled threads and reviewed no commits. Both findings from the prior deep review are addressed in 24cda3df, each with a test that fails without the fix, and nothing of mine is left open. A reader who wants the current code reviewed afresh should ask for a fresh deep review.

Residual risk: Not assessed — a verify pass settles threads rather than hunting new risk. The two threads' own risk is closed: keying by the message makes a collision impossible by construction (equal keys imply equal advice), and the default-glyph guard is now derived from the recorded Control props rather than a hand-maintained list.
