fix(server): preview click timeouts identify the target - #23489
Calling preview_click with .definitely-no-such-t3-target returned only a generic timeout, even after confirming that the selector matched zero elements. Agents could not identify the failed target or distinguish it from an existing target.
Change
After a targeted click times out, report the selector or locator and whether it matches an element after the timeout. Bound the diagnostic lookup, preserve normal click waiting, and warn that a timed-out click may already have happened. Carry the bounded server diagnostic through the existing timeout error.
The runtime checks cover missing CSS and role locators, hidden/disabled targets, successful recovery, refs, coordinates, auto-wait, and stalled-navigation fallback. This is direct real-service integration; the MCP HTTP transport was not exercised. The visual matrix is empty because this change has no rendered UI.
Merged main 5ffe045931 into final head f392d5468b. vp run check:changed passed formatting, lint, knip, generated GraphQL, typechecks for 29 affected packages, and all 42 neighboring tests (post-merge results).
Final head b459078b4b also warns about possible completed clicks when no target remains, and retains the original timeout as its cause without serializing it. Both fresh reviewers approved. Exact-head proof: 22 runtime rows completed, 42 tests passed, including cause retention (runtime, tests, compatibility, final evidence audit: SUFFICIENT, reproduction bundle). Targeted lint/format and server typecheck passed again.
Direct desktop/Electron attachment could not be verified on this Linux VM.
Models: GPT-6.1-Sol and Claude Opus 5.5, using the Codex and Claude Agent harnesses in T3 Code.
Reproduces #3714: a click on a selector that matches nothing surfaces only
'Preview automation click timed out after 15000ms.'
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A click on a selector that matched nothing failed with only "Preview
automation click timed out after 15000ms.", indistinguishable from a target
that exists but never became clickable.
After Playwright's own wait times out, the server browser counts the target
once (bounded so the reply still beats the broker's grace) and reports either
that nothing matched the selector or that it matched but never became
clickable. The broker now carries the server browser's timeout message as the
error's reason, as it already did for execution errors.

…r happened
The target count runs after Playwright's timeout, and Playwright can dispatch
a click and then time out waiting for its navigation. Describe what matches
after the timeout and warn that the click may have happened.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Preview click timeout messages now identify the target and warn that the click may already have occurred. The change preserves click behavior and adds only a bounded, read-only diagnostic lookup.

Preview click timeouts now include the selector and bounded information about whether the target still matches. The broker forwards server-browser timeout reasons, truncated to 500 characters.
The timeout error supports an optional reason. After a locator click times out, the page checks the target count for up to 250 ms and reports whether the target is absent, still present, or unknown. The error retains the original cause. Tests cover absent and still-matching targets.
The broker reads string reasons from remote error details and includes server-browser reasons, truncated to 500 characters, in timeout errors. A test checks that the broker message includes the selector and timeout.
The diagnostics are mergeable; adding coverage for stalled or failed target counts would improve regression protection.

Explanation
Issue #3714 requires an actionable preview_click error for a missing target. The error must include the failed selector or locator. The whole-PR summary shows these changes:
ServerBrowserPage.ts: After a click timeout with a locator, a bounded count check runs (at most 250 ms). A zero count yields a reason that names the selector and says no element matches. A one-or-more count yields a reason that says the element still matches. A count of unknown size yields an unknown-match reason. The message warns that the click may already have happened. Selector text is capped at 200 characters.
ServerBrowserPage.ts: ServerBrowserOperationError accepts ErrorOptions. The original timeout is kept as cause. It is not serialized into the agent-facing message.
PreviewAutomationBroker.ts: For the server browser client, the broker carries the reason into PreviewAutomationTimeoutError. The reason is truncated to 500 characters. Other clients do not receive it. Timeout clamping is unchanged.
packages/contracts/src/previewAutomation.ts: PreviewAutomationTimeoutError takes an optional reason. The message is unchanged when no reason exists.
Tests: ServerBrowserPage.test.ts and PreviewAutomationBroker.test.ts cover a zero-match timeout. They check the selector, the 15,000 ms timeout, the 'may have occurred' warning, and the retained TimeoutError cause. A hidden-target case checks the matching message.
Together these changes meet the issue requirement for the zero-match case. The changed code is in the server and contracts packages. The issue lists apps/desktop as its area. The error path for preview_click runs through these server files, so this area mismatch does not create an unmet coding requirement. Direct Electron attachment was not verified. That check is a runtime check, not a coding requirement. Inspection of the repository was not needed to reach this result. The verdict relies on the supplied whole-PR summary.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
Every listed change supports the #3714 objective of an actionable timeout error for a missing target:
ServerBrowserPage.ts: adds the bounded target count and the timeout diagnostic. This is the core fix.
ServerBrowserPage.ts (ErrorOptions): keeps the original timeout as cause without exposing it to the agent. This supports the error-reporting design.
PreviewAutomationBroker.ts: passes the bounded reason through the existing timeout error. It does not change other clients.
packages/contracts/src/previewAutomation.ts: adds an optional reason field. This is the transport for the diagnostic and keeps the message unchanged when no reason exists.
PreviewAutomationBroker.test.ts and ServerBrowserPage.test.ts: test the new behavior. Tests are expected supporting changes.
No listed change adds unrelated behavior. The summary shows no changes to unrelated features, public APIs beyond the optional field and constructor option, or other packages. The summary is the only evidence used for this check.

A target can vanish because the click removed it or navigated, so the
zero-match message now warns to check the page before retrying. The
named-target wrapper also keeps Playwright's TimeoutError as its cause.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Addressed both findings in b459078b4b: zero-match timeouts now warn that the click may have occurred and advise checking before retrying; the diagnostic wrapper retains the original Playwright timeout as its cause without serializing it to the agent. Both focused suites pass (42 tests), server typecheck and targeted lint/format pass, and two fresh reviewers found no further issues.

Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Keep sensitive selector values out of the action timeline.
A selector can contain a credential or signed URL. ServerBrowser.ts copies this error message into recordAction’s timeline, which later snapshots expose to other sessions with read access to the tab. Redact sensitive values before recording the message while preserving useful target diagnostics for the caller. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

A server browser timeout forwarded Playwright's raw message as its reason,
so preview_open repeated it. The click diagnostic now travels in the error
detail, leads with the possible-click warning, caps the target, and still
names the target when the count is unavailable.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Add a regression test for an unavailable target count.
namedTargetTimeout uses the unknown-target fallback when locator.count() fails or exceeds its diagnostic timeout. The current test covers only zero and positive counts, so it does not verify the unknown status, target text, warning, or preservation of the original timeout as cause.

Add a regression test for namedTargetTimeout where locator.count() fails or
exceeds its diagnostic timeout; verify the unknown-target status and target
text, the warning, and that the original timeout is preserved as the cause.

* fix(web): play completion sounds without delay (pingdotgg#29146)
Completion alerts waited two seconds after the client received a completed thread state. Audio was also fetched and decoded only when an alert needed to play, adding a first-play delay.
Notify immediately when the thread shell reports completion, and preload both sounds when a user gesture unlocks audio. Keep completion deduplication and suppression for existing, archived, and stopped runs.
This intentionally removes the continuation grace for completion alerts. A completed run can now notify before an automatic continuation starts. The sidebar's two-second placement grace and server settlement behavior remain in place.
Validation: `vp run check:changed` passes after merging current main, including 40 affected tests, formatting, lint, unused-code checks, affected typechecks, and React compiler checks. Tests cover immediate completion, duplicate suppression across reconnects, preloaded audio reuse, and retrying failed loads on alerts without retrying on every gesture. Audible timing has not been verified in a live client.

* fix(desktop): prepare macOS x64 bytecode under Rosetta (pingdotgg#29484)
* fix(server): keep PR watches active after host failures (pingdotgg#29450)
## Problem
PR watches stopped after eight failed host reads, so a prolonged network outage prevented later CI and review updates from reaching the thread.
## Change
Keep watches active after provider failures reported as `failed`. Read detail and activity concurrently without allowing an activity failure to cancel or hide a permanent detail failure. Repeated known permanent failures still stop the watch and notify the agent; rate limits still pause reads. Non-rate-limited GitHub HTTP 403 responses and GraphQL `FORBIDDEN` responses now use a distinct `forbidden` reason so access refusals are counted instead of retried indefinitely. GraphQL error types survive the client mapping, after the existing requested-reviewer fallback.
The provider's `failed` category also includes unclassified host and decode errors. Those continue retrying at the existing two-minute cadence until the watch ends or is stopped. A fixed outage deadline would recreate the recovery failure for longer outages.
## Scope and approval
This is a focused fix for an obvious bug in existing PR watch recovery, covered by the small bug-fix exception in CONTRIBUTING.md. The changes cover watcher recovery, a GitHub failure classification needed to preserve permanent-error handling, and their regression tests. The new server-side `forbidden` reason does not change RPC contracts or add settings.
## Verification
`vp run check:changed` passed, including 154 tests across five files. Regression coverage includes a 30-minute outage followed by one CI-success notification, mixed activity/detail failures, resetting a prior failure count, and repeated forbidden reads stopping the watch. Provider tests distinguish HTTP 403 and exclusively permanent GraphQL refusals from retryable HTTP 503 and mixed or untyped GraphQL errors. The mixed-failure and GraphQL classification cases failed before their fixes. Seven focused requested-reviewer fallback/refusal tests also pass.

Problem
Calling
preview_clickwith.definitely-no-such-t3-targetreturned only a generic timeout, even after confirming that the selector matched zero elements. Agents could not identify the failed target or distinguish it from an existing target.Change
After a targeted click times out, report the selector or locator and whether it matches an element after the timeout. Bound the diagnostic lookup, preserve normal click waiting, and warn that a timed-out click may already have happened. Carry the bounded server diagnostic through the existing timeout error.

Fixes #3714
GitCafe: https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/issues/3714
Triaged bug via the automated issue flow.
Verification
ServerBrowserPage.test.tsandPreviewAutomationBroker.test.ts(red/green output). The runtime checks cover missing CSS and role locators, hidden/disabled targets, successful recovery, refs, coordinates, auto-wait, and stalled-navigation fallback. This is direct real-service integration; the MCP HTTP transport was not exercised. The visual matrix is empty because this change has no rendered UI.

vp run check:changedpassed formatting, lint, knip, generated GraphQL, typechecks for 29 affected packages, and all 42 neighboring tests (post-merge results).Final proof audit: SUFFICIENT.
