This is a great improvement, @dnskr. Thanks for doing this.
Instead of repeating the configuration per Sphinx command, would it be possible for us to set it in the pyproject.toml file, with something like the following?
[tool.sphinx-build]
fail-on-warning = true
Regarding the files you mentioned:
netlify.toml: This file configures Netlify, our documentation preview tool. Note that we're on a limited tier and frequently run out of build credits, so the preview may not render as expected.

It isn't working for some reason. I've tried several different variations, but none of them have succeeded. The previous implementation didn't work in One thing I don't like about this implementation, however, is the repetition of dependencies in three places: |

@dnskr thanks a lot for the improvement! I agree we should remove redundancy between the files you mentioned, and I see more value in this addition than in not making it.
I'd be happy for us to remove the Makefile and docs/requirements.txt in a follow-up PR. I'm not aware of a way for us not to have the dependencies duplicated int he pre-co mmit - but if you find a way, I'd also be happy to avoid it.

Description
The PR adds a pre-commit hook that builds the documentation to ensure there are no issues. Additionally, it configures Sphinx to turn warnings into errors by using the --fail-on-warning flag to catch formatting issues.
