Summary

SGLang rejects a positive min_new_tokens when the engine starts with skip_tokenizer_init. The standard Python token decode path forwarded that field, so those requests failed before generation.

For that exact path, a positive min_tokens now:

  • omits min_new_tokens from the SGLang request;
  • removes engine-side stop token IDs and sets ignore_eos, preventing SGLang from ending before the floor;
  • leaves minimum-token enforcement to the Dynamo decoder, which checks the minimum before counting the current token and preserves raw generated-token accounting.

Absent or zero min_tokens, and engines that retain a tokenizer, are unchanged.

Holding the engine open can produce tokens after a local stop. The backend therefore truncates token-aligned fields at a stop inside a chunk and discards later chunks for a choice that already finished while other n choices continue. The Python token and text streams track each unfinished SGLang choice ID so cancellation and stream closure abort all observed unfinished choices.

The minimum-token fallback is intentionally limited to the non-native DecodeWorkerHandler token path. Cancellation cleanup tracks all choices in both token and text streams. This PR does not alter native passthrough, sidecar, or dedicated multimodal lowering.

Validation

Current head: c114bb47ef4c5745f425dfdb573cf7939e5efaff. It contains the current base, and all review threads are resolved. Maintainer jain-ria resolved the hidden-EOS thread while preserving raw generated-token accounting.

Pre Merge and all observed runtime/backend test suites passed on this head. SGLang's NATS and TCP cancellation cases both passed. Maintainer jain-ria started full-CI attempt 2, on which all five image builds that timed out in attempt 1 succeeded.

The sole remaining incomplete check is Planner AMD64 compliance (job 105011901778), cancelled after its 15-minute limit. Full CI run 35155007509, attempt 2, is terminal with conclusion cancelled; the check rollup remains FAILURE despite passing backend and Dynamo status gates. The targeted job-rerun request returned HTTP 403, “Must have admin rights to Repository.” An authorized maintainer must rerun or address that compliance job and complete its dependent checks. Skipped checks remain distinct from passes.

The existing min_tokens_delays_stop test checks the min_tokens=2, [HI, EOS] boundary and stopping on a subsequent EOS. This maintenance run made no source changes and ran no local tests, builds, benchmarks, or lint commands. No source-code failure was demonstrated, and earlier-head results are not used as validation.

    • Cancelled streaming requests now abort all unfinished parallel choices, including late-arriving responses.
    • Prevented completed choices from receiving later stream chunks.
    • Corrected token, log-probability, and stopping behavior when minimum-token limits apply.

    • Updated test workflow configuration and added a required test dependency.

SGLang refuses `min_new_tokens` when the engine was started without a
tokenizer, because it needs the tokenizer's EOS id to apply the floor.
Dynamo forwarded the parameter anyway from three lowering sites, so any
`min_tokens` request against a tokenizer-free SGLang worker was rejected.

Dynamo does not need the engine for this. The `Decoder` in
`lib/llm/src/backend.rs` already holds the same `min_tokens` and the same
stop-token set the preprocessor resolved, and suppresses every stop
trigger until the floor is reached. What it cannot do is manufacture
tokens the engine never produced, so when a floor is requested the engine
is now held open for the request -- it receives no stop ids and is told to
ignore EOS -- and termination becomes entirely Dynamo's. The engine may
generate tokens Dynamo discards; that is bounded by `max_tokens`.

The branch where the engine owns its tokenizer is unchanged: it still
receives `min_new_tokens` and enforces the floor natively.

Automated evidence record — validation incomplete

Validation status: incomplete

Evidence summary: 3/5 validated · 2 denied by the execution environment

Validation result: validation incomplete. Two of the five checks never ran: reading the installed sglang package is denied to this execution environment, so the Python handler module cannot be imported and the SGLang worker cannot start. The Python unit tests and the end-to-end smoke check are therefore unproven here. The end-to-end check is the only one that would have demonstrated the user-visible outcome, and it needs an environment that can run the pinned engine. The three checks that did run — build and import, lint and formatting, and the Rust sidecar unit tests — all passed.

Evidence audit: complete — 3/5 validated · 2 denied by the execution environment. The command report below comes from recorded runs.

AI review assessment: needs_changes — advisory only. This is an AI agent's judgment of whether the change is logically sound, based on the code and the reported validation results. It is not an approval. Repository CI and human reviewers decide whether to merge. The full review is attached as a separate review.md comment.

Details:

Reading the installed sglang package is denied to this environment, so the handler module the tests import cannot load and pytest fails during collection.

Check 5

Starts Dynamo with SGLang on one GPU and sends a real request.

Result: Failed (exit 1)

Command:

bash -lc 'python3 -m dynamo.sglang --model Qwen/Qwen3-0.6B --tp-size 1 --context-length 4096 --load-format dummy --discovery-backend file --mem-fraction-static 0.05'

Details:

The SGLang worker cannot start here because reading the installed sglang package is denied to this environment, so no live request could be sent; the GPU itself was free and idle.

🤖 Automated AI review — advisory. An AI agent's judgment of
whether this change is logically sound based on the code and reported
validation results. This is not an approval. Repository CI and human
reviewers decide whether to merge.

Assessment: needs_changes

The change is well-reasoned and its Rust half is proven by execution, but its central
premise — "Dynamo already enforces the floor, so the engine does not need to" — holds
only on the pipeline that contains the Rust Backend operator. The frontend built by
--dyn-chat-processor sglang does not contain it, and on that pipeline the change
replaces a loud rejection with silent runaway generation past EOS. The gate is also keyed
on the wrong observable, which widens the blast radius from tokenizer-free workers to
every default worker. Separately, the reported validation is blocked, not a pass.

What I verified independently

The plan's central claim is true, and I confirmed it in the source rather than taking
it from the narrative. Decoder::new stores the floor at lib/llm/src/backend.rs:593
(min_tokens: stop_condition.min_tokens.unwrap_or(0)) and unions stop_token_ids with
stop_token_ids_hidden into its hidden stop set; Decoder::step then returns early with
no stop trigger at lib/llm/src/backend.rs:623 while generated_tokens < min_tokens. So
where the Decoder runs, the floor is enforced frontend-side from the resolved EOS ids
with no tokenizer needed, and removing engine-side min_new_tokens loses nothing.

StopConditions is untouched by the diff, so on that pipeline the Decoder does still
hold the stop ids it needs — StopConditions::apply_ignore_eos() is never reached, which
is the right call. The hold_engine_open guard is correctly conditioned on a non-zero
floor in all three sites, and the Rust site additionally excludes prefill
(!mode.is_prefill()), so a request that asks for no floor keeps its engine-side stop ids
and its own ignore_eos value. Every call site of the new keyword-only parameter is
updated: a repository-wide search for build_sampling_params finds exactly two production
callers, components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/multimodal/worker_handler.py:556
and :607, both passing use_sglang_tokenizer=self.use_sglang_tokenizer, and
self.use_sglang_tokenizer is set for that handler by
components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/handler_base.py:588.

What does not hold up is the assumption that the Decoder is always there.

Findings

# Location Severity Claim
1 components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/llm/decode_handler.py:445 blocking On the --dyn-chat-processor sglang frontend there is no Rust Decoder, so nothing enforces the floor or stops at EOS; a min_tokens request now runs to max_new_tokens and returns post-EOS text
2 components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/llm/decode_handler.py:428 blocking use_sglang_tokenizer is not "the exact in-process observable for this engine has no tokenizer"; the workaround is applied to every default worker, including the ones whose engines accept min_new_tokens today
3 components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/llm/decode_handler.py:444 nit The comment's invariant "bounded by max_tokens" is false when max_tokens is omitted — the same file deliberately forwards max_new_tokens: None, which SGLang reads as "until EOS/context-length", and ignore_eos has just removed EOS
4 components/src/dynamo/sglang/tests/test_sglang_decode_handler.py:802 nit The new assertions use min_tokens == max_tokens == 64, the single case in which holding the engine open costs nothing, so the accepted trade-off is untested

1 — the frontend floor does not exist on the --dyn-chat-processor sglang pipeline

components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/llm/decode_handler.py:445-453 withholds the
engine's stop ids and sets ignore_eos: True whenever a non-zero floor is requested, on
the strength of the comment at :434-443: "Dynamo already enforces the floor: the Rust
decoder holds the same min_tokens and the same stop-token set".

That is true of the pipeline PreprocessedRouting::build_pipeline builds
(lib/llm/src/entrypoint/input/common.rs:491), which links a Backend operator at
lib/llm/src/entrypoint/input/common.rs:512 and :522. It is not true of
PreprocessedRouting::build_preprocessed_pipeline
(lib/llm/src/entrypoint/input/common.rs:538), whose doc comment reads "Bring your own
pre/post processor. Used when frontend has --dyn-chat-processor vllm|sglang". That
pipeline links migration, the encoder router, the prefill router and the service
backend, and no Backend operator at all — which its own signature announces, since it
yields Annotated<LLMEngineOutput> rather than Annotated<BackendOutput>.

Nothing on the Python side takes over. SglangProcessor forwards the floor into the
request it sends the worker
(components/src/dynamo/frontend/sglang_processor.py:422, "min_tokens": request.get("min_tokens", 0)) and then never consults it again — a search for
min_tokens across components/src/dynamo/frontend/ returns that line and the equivalent
one in the vLLM processor, and nothing else. The post-processor has no EOS stop either:
SglangStreamingPostProcessor.process_output calls
_strip_trailing_eos_token_ids only inside if finish_reason is not None
(components/src/dynamo/frontend/sglang_prepost.py:1369, helper at :1039), so it trims
trailing EOS ids after the engine has already decided to stop and has no way to stop the
engine itself. Its only local termination is stop-string matching.

So on that pipeline, with this change applied, a request carrying min_tokens reaches a
worker that has been told to ignore EOS and given no stop ids, while no component
downstream or upstream will terminate it. It generates to max_new_tokens on every
request, and the EOS token plus whatever the model continues with afterwards is decoded and
returned to the caller — the post-processor strips only a trailing EOS id, not one in the
middle of the emitted text.

This is not merely a tokenizer-free concern, because of finding 2: a worker started
without --skip-tokenizer-init has an engine that accepts min_new_tokens and enforces
the floor correctly today, and this change takes that away from it too. Fronted by
--dyn-chat-processor sglang, that configuration goes from correct to runaway.

plan.md states that silently under-delivering min_tokens is not an acceptable outcome.
The mirror-image outcome — silently over-delivering to the token budget, with post-EOS
content in the response — is the one this path now produces, and it was reasoned about only
for the pipeline that has a Decoder.

2 — the gate is keyed on the wrong observable

components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/llm/decode_handler.py:428 selects the new
behaviour with if not self.use_sglang_tokenizer:, described in the change narrative as
"the exact in-process observable for 'this engine has no tokenizer'". It is not that.

--use-sglang-tokenizer defaults to False
(components/src/dynamo/sglang/backend_args.py:61-64) and is deprecated in favour of
--dyn-chat-processor sglang on the frontend
(components/src/dynamo/sglang/args.py:638-645). It selects which side does pre- and
post-processing; it says nothing about whether the engine loaded a tokenizer. The engine's
own observable is server_args.skip_tokenizer_init, which this repository already reads at
components/src/dynamo/sglang/snapshot.py:58, and which Dynamo never sets itself — it
arrives only when the operator passes --skip-tokenizer-init. use_sglang_tokenizer == False is necessary for a tokenizer-free engine but nowhere near sufficient: it is the
default for every SGLang worker.

The consequence is that the workaround for SGLang's guard is applied to the large majority
of workers that never trip that guard. For them the change is a pure downgrade: engine-side
enforcement that works is swapped for frontend-side enforcement that exists on one pipeline
and not the other. Gating on skip_tokenizer_init instead would confine the change to the
configuration that actually fails, and would also put finding 1 out of reach for the common
deployment.

The same reasoning applies to
components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/multimodal/worker_handler.py:110-117, which
threads the same flag.

The Rust sidecar site is not affected by this finding. lib/sidecar/sglang/src/engine.rs:118
registers ModelInput::Tokens, so that path is served by the pipeline that does contain the
Backend operator, and the narrative's claim that the gRPC path always submits input_ids
is consistent with the code.

3 — "bounded by max_tokens" is not an invariant

The comment at
components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/llm/decode_handler.py:444, the matching
comments in the two new Rust tests, and the commit message all assert that the
over-generation this change accepts is bounded by max_tokens. Twenty-nine lines further
down, the same function documents the opposite case:

# Keep max_new_tokens even when None — SGLang treats None as "generate
# until EOS/context-length" whereas omitting it triggers a default of 128.
keep_if_none = {"max_new_tokens"}

max_tokens is genuinely optional on both frontends.
components/src/dynamo/frontend/sglang_processor.py:379 computes it as
request.get("max_completion_tokens") or request.get("max_tokens"), which is None when
the caller sends neither, and on the Rust frontend omitted_max_tokens_default
(lib/llm/src/preprocessor.rs:1608) returns None under preserve_omitted_max_tokens.
When it is None, max_new_tokens: None reaches the engine meaning "until
EOS/context-length" — and ignore_eos: True has just deleted the EOS half of that. The
remaining bound is the context length.

On the pipeline that has a Decoder this is theoretical: the Decoder fires its stop and
Dynamo cancels the upstream generator, so the cost is a short tail. Combined with finding 1
it is not theoretical at all. Either way the invariant as written is wrong and should not be
left in the code for the next reader to rely on.

4 — the new tests avoid the case the change is about

components/src/dynamo/sglang/tests/test_sglang_decode_handler.py:802 and the shared
multimodal fixture at :867 both use min_tokens equal to max_tokens (64 and 64).
That is the one configuration in which holding the engine open costs nothing, because the
floor and the ceiling coincide. A case such as min_tokens: 16 with max_tokens: 64 is
the one that exhibits the trade-off the change deliberately accepts, and a case with
max_tokens omitted is the one finding 3 describes. Neither is covered.

More broadly, no test in the diff exercises the --dyn-chat-processor sglang pipeline,
which is where finding 1 lives.

Requested changes

  1. Decide what min_tokens means on the --dyn-chat-processor sglang frontend before
holding the engine open for it. Either enforce the floor in
    components/src/dynamo/frontend/sglang_prepost.py alongside the existing stop-string
handling and stop the stream there, or keep engine-side enforcement for that
configuration. Do not leave a path where ignore_eos: True is set and no component
    terminates the request.
  2. Gate the new behaviour on server_args.skip_tokenizer_init rather than
    use_sglang_tokenizer, in both
    components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/llm/decode_handler.py:428 and
    components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/multimodal/worker_handler.py:110, so the
workaround applies only where SGLang's guard actually fires.
  3. Correct the "bounded by max_tokens" claim at
    components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/llm/decode_handler.py:444, in the two new
Rust test comments, and in the commit message, to state the real bound including the
    omitted-max_tokens case.
  4. Add a case with min_tokens strictly below max_tokens, and one with max_tokens
    omitted, to components/src/dynamo/sglang/tests/test_sglang_decode_handler.py.

Validation audit

The reported verdict is blocked, and on substance it is blocked rather than hedged: three
checks ran and passed, two could not run at all. Under the checklist item
validator-blocked-or-failed-implies-request-changes that alone forecloses a sound
assessment. The two that could not run are not an image build a named CI job performs
anyway, so the ci-owned exception does not apply — they are the Python unit tests and the
end-to-end request, which are precisely the evidence for the two Python edits that carry the
user-visible behaviour.

Every check the plan named was attempted; none is not run. I walked each passing row
against its captured output and each shows the command executing and exercising the change:

  • cargo check --workspace --all-targets, cargo check --manifest-path lib/bindings/python/Cargo.toml --all-targets, cargo fmt --all --check, git diff --check and cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --no-deps -- -D warnings all exited
    0.

  • cargo test -p dynamo-llm --test test_stop_behavior exited 0 with test result: ok. 8 passed; 0 failed, and the captured output names min_tokens_delays_stop among them —
the pre-existing proof of the Decoder premise.

  • cargo test -p dynamo-sglang-sidecar --lib was run twice: once with the three production
hunks reverse-applied and the new tests kept, exiting 101 with

    thread 'protocol::tests::decode_min_tokens_is_left_to_the_frontend_and_engine_is_held_open' panicked at lib/sidecar/sglang/src/protocol.rs:671:9:
    assertion `left == right` failed
      left: Some(4)
     right: None

test result: FAILED. 31 passed; 1 failed; 0 ignored

and once on the restored tree, exiting 0 with test result: ok. 32 passed; 0 failed.
That is a genuine before/after, and it was re-run rather than taken from the narrative.

  • python -m pytest components/src/dynamo/sglang/tests/test_sglang_decode_handler.py -m "unit and not gpu" exited 4 — collection never started, because importing the
installed sglang package raises PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied.

  • python3 -m dynamo.sglang --model Qwen/Qwen3-0.6B --tp-size 1 --context-length 4096 --load-format dummy --discovery-backend file --mem-fraction-static 0.05 exited 1 on the
same import failure, so no request was ever sent.

No validated row is contradicted by its own output. The validator was also right to flag
that decode_without_min_tokens_keeps_engine_side_stopping passed in the before run as well
as the after run and therefore carries no before/after weight on its own.

Two smaller notes on the reported evidence. The compute facts record a single local GPU and
no remote compute; nothing in the run reached for SSH, Slurm or a remote host, and the
GPU-requiring check was attempted on the GPU pathway and failed for a reason unrelated to
hardware. And the interpreter available for the run reports SGLang one minor release behind
the version the report names, so even a readable package would not have reproduced the
guard — which is a fact about the environment, not about the change, and is why the
end-to-end outcome remains unproven anywhere.

New infrastructure added by the diff is one test helper,
components/src/dynamo/sglang/tests/test_sglang_decode_handler.py:867. It was not
exercised, for the same collection failure.

Test walk

Per the checklist, the revert question applied to every test the diff adds or rewrites. The
Rust answers are observed; the Python answers are read from the source, because the module
could not be collected in the reported run.

Test Would it pass with the production change reverted?
lib/sidecar/sglang/src/protocol.rs:659 decode_min_tokens_is_left_to_the_frontend_and_engine_is_held_open No — observed failing on left: Some(4) / right: None. Genuine.
lib/sidecar/sglang/src/protocol.rs:688 decode_without_min_tokens_keeps_engine_side_stopping Yes — observed green in the before run. See note below.
components/src/dynamo/sglang/tests/test_sglang_decode_handler.py:802 ..._enforces_min_tokens_in_dynamo_for_token_requests No — the previous code emitted min_new_tokens: 64 and merged stop_token_ids, so "min_new_tokens" not in sampling_params fails. Genuine.
components/src/dynamo/sglang/tests/test_sglang_decode_handler.py:847 ..._leaves_engine_stopping_alone_for_zero_min_tokens No — the previous code emitted min_new_tokens: 0, which survives the is not None filter, so the absence assertion fails. Genuine.
components/src/dynamo/sglang/tests/test_sglang_decode_handler.py:877 test_multimodal_build_sampling_params_holds_engine_open_for_min_tokens No — and its ignore_eos is True assertion encodes new behaviour independently of the signature. Genuine.
components/src/dynamo/sglang/tests/test_sglang_decode_handler.py:889 ..._maps_min_tokens_with_engine_tokenizer No, but only on the signature: the previous build_sampling_params takes no use_sglang_tokenizer keyword. Its three assertions all hold against the old implementation, so it is a control for the preserved branch, not a proof of the change.

A strict reading of the revert rule would ask for the deletion of any test that still passes
against unmodified code, which here means decode_without_min_tokens_keeps_engine_side_stopping.
I am not asking for it, and I am naming the deviation so a human can overrule it. That test is
not a tautology or a config mirror: it pins the false branch of a conditional the diff
introduces, so it asserts observable behaviour of new code and would catch a later widening of
hold_engine_open. decode_without_min_tokens_keeps_engine_side_stopping
guards the no-floor path against over-application of the new behaviour, which is a real risk
this change carries and not a quota-filler; ..._maps_min_tokens_with_engine_tokenizer does
the same for the tokenizer-owning branch and could not have existed before the signature
change. Both should be understood as controls, and neither should be read as evidence for
the change.

Scope audit

The diff touches four files — the three lowering sites the plan named plus their test file —
and no non-goal. lib/sidecar/sglang/src/native_http.rs, the vLLM and TensorRT-LLM sidecar
converters, components/src/dynamo/tokenspeed/llm_engine.py, the shipped manifests, and
StopConditions / PreprocessedRequest and the wire fields are all untouched, which
git diff --stat against the branch point confirms. No mixed-version compatibility surface
is added. The commit is on a non-default branch, its SHA matches the one the change narrative
records, the working tree is clean, the title follows Conventional Commits
(fix(sglang): ...), and a Signed-off-by trailer is present.

Notes the plan requires

The same defect is present on release/1.5.0 and warrants a separate cherry-pick. I
verified this rather than repeating it: all three production files —
lib/sidecar/sglang/src/protocol.rs,
components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/llm/decode_handler.py and
components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/multimodal/worker_handler.py — hash
identically on origin/release/1.5.0 and at this branch's base commit, and that branch
still forwards the parameter at decode_handler.py:440, worker_handler.py:97 and
protocol.rs:43. Whatever shape this change finally takes, it applies there unchanged and
should be tracked as separate work rather than folded in here.

A stale open draft re-proposes the min_new_tokens mapping this change removes and should
be closed.
This one I am carrying from the change narrative; I have no way to query open
requests from this review, so a maintainer should confirm it before acting. If it is still
open, landing it would reintroduce the rejection this change is fixing.

Walkthrough

The SGLang path now handles tokenizer-free minimum-token requests and cancels all active choices. Backend streaming filters completed choices, preserves aligned output fields after local stopping, and applies minimum-token thresholds before counting tokens.

Tokenizer-free requests omit engine minimum and stop-token controls when required. The handler tracks active request IDs and aborts unfinished choices during cancellation. Tests cover tokenizer-free and tokenizer-backed sampling.
Decoder stop handling
lib/llm/src/backend.rs, lib/llm/tests/test_stop_behavior.rs
Backend generation drops post-completion chunks, truncates aligned token and log-probability fields after local stopping, and checks the minimum-token threshold before incrementing the count. Tests cover multi-choice output and hidden EOS tokens.

CI passed on head 32694da21df5de93699163896f16dd469bfbacbf: all 28 check runs reached a terminal state — 22 success, 6 skipped, no failures — and the combined commit status is success. That includes rust-clippy (.) and rust-tests (.), which failed on the previous head, and pre-merge-status-check. Every review thread on this pull request is resolved. The gated full CI suite has not run on this head; it starts only after a maintainer comments /ok to test 32694da, which creates the pull-request/14276 branch that triggers it.

When a tokenizer-free decode request carries a min_tokens floor, the sidecar
holds the engine open so Dynamo's Decoder can enforce the floor. Stop token ids
were cleared for that, but stop strings were still forwarded, so a matching stop
string could end generation below the floor. Clear both in the same branch.

Also make the multimodal handler use the same positive min_tokens predicate as
the decode handler and the sidecar.

Pushed 9b469d7fa4e6fb07d20cc75ad09adaee7489a7eb addressing the three open review findings.

  • lib/sidecar/sglang/src/protocol.rs — stop is now cleared in the same hold_engine_open branch that clears stop_token_ids. The Decoder in lib/llm/src/backend.rs returns early on generated_tokens < min_tokens before it checks token stops and before it checks stop sequences, so it owns string-stop termination on this path; leaving stop with the engine let a stop string end generation below the floor. Both existing lowering tests now carry stop = Some(vec!["STOP"]): the held-open case asserts sampling.stop.is_empty(), the no-floor case asserts the strings survive.
  • components/src/dynamo/sglang/request_handlers/multimodal/worker_handler.py — the floor test is now (stop_conditions.min_tokens or 0) > 0, matching decode_handler.py and the sidecar's .unwrap_or(0) > 0.
  • components/src/dynamo/sglang/tests/test_sglang_decode_handler.py — removed the comment above the zero-floor assertions.

Checks run on the pushed tree:

cargo test -p dynamo-sglang-sidecar --lib 32 passed, 0 failed
cargo fmt --all -- --check clean
cargo clippy -p dynamo-sglang-sidecar --all-targets clean
pre-commit run --files <the three changed files> all hooks passed

python3 -m pytest components/src/dynamo/sglang/tests/test_sglang_decode_handler.py could not run in this environment: collection fails at PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/sgl-workspace/sglang/python/sglang/__init__.py'. Those tests run in the checks on this request.

Comment thread components/src/dynamo/sglang/tests/test_sglang_decode_handler.py
The tokenizer-free lowering tests all used min_tokens equal to max_tokens,
which cannot tell a Dynamo-enforced floor apart from the engine stopping at
its own maximum. Add a case with the floor below the ceiling and a case with
no ceiling at all, where max_new_tokens stays None on purpose.

Pair min_tokens_delays_stop with the other half of the contract: once the
floor is reached, the decoder does stop at EOS.

nursery: Pushed c66ce8a to restore the Dynamo-context abort completion log after all unfinished SGLang choice IDs are aborted. The previous head's two-GPU NATS and TCP cancellation cases failed because that message had been removed. The log now covers monitor cancellation, stream closure, and late-choice cancellation without reporting success for an empty abort set or a missing tokenizer manager.

Repository-pinned Ruff 0.5.2 and whitespace checks passed. No local tests, builds, benchmarks, or new tests were run or added. Current-head lightweight CI is still running without observed failures; full CI authorization has been requested once and is pending. Previous-head passes do not validate this repair.

@jain-ria @jthomson04 please re-review the repair. The requested_reviewers API returned HTTP 404, so this is the fallback request. CodeRabbit and Devin re-review requests are also posted; no new findings have arrived yet.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Track all text-stream request IDs.

DecodeWorkerHandler._process_text_stream receives n through sampling_params, but records only the first SGLang meta_info["id"] in request_id_future. _handle_cancellation then aborts only that ID when no live-ID set is provided. With SGLang parallel sampling, the other choice IDs can continue running and consume GPU capacity.

Use the same live-ID tracking, finished-choice removal, and post-cancellation abort handling as _process_token_stream. Add a text-mode n=2 cancellation test.

nursery: Addressed CodeRabbit’s text-stream cancellation finding in 21638df. Text streams now track each unfinished SGLang choice ID, remove completed choices, and abort choices observed after cancellation. The same live set is passed to the cancellation monitor, covering stream closure as well. The minimum-token fallback remains limited to tokenizer-free token requests. Repository-pinned Ruff 0.5.2 passed; no local tests or new tests were run or added under this task’s constraints. Current-head remote validation is pending.

nursery: This pass left head 21638df03d461b6f744f45b28ca95195120f8de7 unchanged; GitHub reports no merge conflicts. No code changes, commits, pushes, local tests, builds, benchmarks, or new tests were made.

Current-head CI is blocked:

  • operator failed while verifying Go dependencies because sum.golang.org returned HTTP/2 INTERNAL_ERROR. The job-rerun request returned HTTP 403: “Must have admin rights to Repository.” A maintainer needs to rerun this infrastructure failure. The three recent main runs skipped this job, so they provide no pass/fail comparison.
  • rust-tests (.) remains in progress. Other observed check runs: 21 successful, five skipped.
  • Full CI has not run for this head. The existing authorization request remains unanswered; I did not duplicate it. The copy branch still points to 7ca35cee32f252bf6c1f42886ee990d3db2ae683.

The hidden-EOS counting thread remains open for the previously requested human decision. Its requested behavior reverses maintainer commit 2492a7693; this pass preserved that decision. The optional import-placement nit was skipped. Formal re-review requests for jain-ria and jthomson04 returned HTTP 404; existing comment requests remain pending. No repeat bot review was requested without a new repair.

Next: an authorized maintainer should rerun the operator job, authorize current-head full CI, and settle the open review thread. This PR is not yet verified ready to merge.

nursery: Head c114bb47ef4c5745f425dfdb573cf7939e5efaff is unchanged and contains the current base 99224822bdbbd45a520d2ec1a4c9e38ca967e8e7. All 18 review threads are resolved. No source changes, commits, pushes, local tests/builds/benchmarks, or new tests were made in this maintenance run.

Maintainer jain-ria started full-CI attempt 2. All five image builds that timed out in attempt 1 passed on the rerun. Pre Merge, the backend and Dynamo status gates, and the SGLang, vLLM, TensorRT-LLM, Triton, Planner CPU, frontend, and Dynamo runtime test jobs passed on this head. The SGLang two-GPU log explicitly confirms both NATS and TCP cancellation cases passed.

The sole remaining incomplete check is Planner AMD64 compliance, cancelled after its 15-minute job limit. Its log and annotations confirm the timeout. Full CI attempt 2 is terminal with conclusion cancelled, and the check rollup remains FAILURE; no jobs are still running. Skipped checks are not counted as passes.

A targeted rerun of that compliance job returned HTTP 403, “Must have admin rights to Repository.” An authorized maintainer must rerun or address this job and complete its dependent checks. Full-CI authorization is already granted; no duplicate authorization request is needed. No source-code failure was demonstrated, and no CI requirement was weakened.

@jain-ria @jthomson04 please re-review once the remaining compliance check passes. The formal requested_reviewers API returned HTTP 404, so this mention remains the fallback request. No repeat bot review was requested without a substantive repair. Merge readiness is not claimed.

* feat(mm-routing): add Nemotron 3 Nano Omni video routing (ai-dynamo#14653)

* fix(sglang): validate diffusion input_reference and bound media fetches (ai-dynamo#14435)

The sglang image-diffusion and video-generation handlers passed the
client-supplied input_reference through to the generator's image_path after only
a non-empty check. Validate it first, and for remote references materialize it
locally before the generator sees it, so the generator is always handed a
trusted local path. This brings the sglang diffusion path in line with the
vLLM/omni and trtllm backends, which already validate the same field.

Behavior change: local I2I/I2V references now require DYN_MM_LOCAL_PATH to be
set to the allowed directory; previously any path was accepted.

common/http:

- validate_media_reference() returns a plain filesystem path for local
references; local_media_reference() is an async context manager that fetches a
remote one through fetch_bytes(policy=...), which revalidates every redirect
hop, into a temp file removed on exit. data: is rejected -- a URI is not a path.
- fetch_bytes() gained max_bytes, streaming through collect_capped at an explicit
read granularity so the cap is an allocation bound and not only a rejection: a
128 MiB-decoded gzip body against the 64 MiB cap peaks at 68,032,217 bytes
rather than the whole decompressed body. Content-Length is caller-controlled
and absent when chunked, and aiohttp's read(n) returns at most n bytes, so
neither a header check nor a single capped read suffices. Defaults to None,
  leaving existing callers unchanged.
- DYN_MM_MAX_FILE_SIZE_MB makes that cap operator-tunable, in megabytes, as the
SGLang arg it replaces was. Read per call; empty, unparseable or non-positive
falls back to 64 with a warning, so a malformed value neither takes the worker
  down nor reads as unlimited.
- Messages built from caller input are bounded via describe_media_source, moved
from multimodal/media_source.py (it pulls in torch) into url_validator.py and
re-exported from its old home; a no-op below 120 characters.
- HttpStatusError bounds its .message attribute, not only the rendered string:
errors.rs::extract_http_like_error reads .status and .message off this class by
name and forwards .message on a 4xx without calling str(). Backend exception
text is bounded head-and-tail, since aiohttp renders the host before the errno.
- validate_local_path uses exc.strerror rather than the raw OSError, whose text
repeats the filename, and now catches the ValueError that Path.resolve() raises
on an embedded NUL so callers keep their 4xx-vs-5xx decision.

Rebased onto ai-dynamo#14563 (single aiohttp backend); the httpx-side half of the
max_bytes plumbing went with that backend.

* ci(xpu): validation PR for the re-applied XPU workflows and Dockerfile

Throwaway PR to prove the CI merged in #22 actually runs end to end on XPU
hardware. Adds only a comment to container/templates/vllm_runtime.Dockerfile,
which matches the `vllm` path filter (container/templates/vllm_*) and so makes
changed-files set vllm=true, which is what gates build-xpu and the
heterog-test-px-dn / heterog-test-pn-dx jobs.

What this exercises:
  - .github/workflows/pr-xpu.yaml (push to pull-request/[0-9]+, needs the xpu label)
  - .github/workflows/pr-xpu-heterogeneous.yaml (push; its guard deliberately skips the label gate)
  - .github/workflows/epd-test-template.yml (workflow_call, from the heterog jobs)
  - .github/scripts/test-filters.js (the brace fix from #22)
  - container/templates/vllm_runtime.Dockerfile rendered and built for device=xpu

Not exercised: .github/workflows/xpu-heterogeneous-dispatch.yaml is
workflow_dispatch only and has to be run by hand from the Actions tab.

The marker comment must be removed before this branch is ever merged.

* fix(llm): report KServe datatypes by their wire names, not protobuf variants (ai-dynamo#14957)

`ModelMetadata` reported each Triton-registered tensor's `datatype` using
`inference::DataType::as_str_name()`, which returns the `model_config.proto`
variant name (`TYPE_FP32`, `TYPE_STRING`, ...) instead of the KServe v2 wire
names (`FP32`, `BYTES`, ...). Every datatype was wrong, so spec-conforming
clients cannot parse any tensor the RPC describes. Adds `oip_name()` next to
`tensor::DataType::to_kserve` covering all fifteen proto variants (incl. FP16
and BF16) and mapping `TYPE_STRING → BYTES`.

* feat: KVCR Resiliency Deployment Example (ai-dynamo#14695)

Add two-node DynamoGraphDeployment examples for process-local KVCR and
the KVCR memory service. Run one vLLM worker per GPU node, use stable
Grove ordinals for cache-owner slots, and request GPU-local RDMA
resources for engines and Guard services. Provide a deployment helper
for rendering and selecting either variant.

Run the KV state agent alongside vLLM for process-local host memory. In
memory-service mode, keep KVCR and the state agent in a separate
container so its Guard and shared-memory pool survive engine restarts.
Document that restarting the services sidecar invalidates the MVP
recovery contract and requires deployment-level replacement.

Add manifest coverage and an opt-in two-host lifecycle test. Kill the
source EngineCore, hold it offline, and verify that the promoted Guard
serves its preserved cache to the surviving target. Correlate response
equality and KVCR transfer metrics with transmit and receive counters
from the selected active HCA to prove RDMA transport.

Pin compatible KVCR and vLLM revisions and document the runtime,
discovery, compatibility-digest, and recovery prerequisites.

* .github/workflows/pr-xpu-heterogeneous.yaml; pin GPU_TAG to latest

* .github/workflows/; add post-merge and nightly XPU heterogeneous CI

Extract the XPU heterogeneous P/D pipeline out of pr-xpu-heterogeneous.yaml
into xpu-heterogeneous-run.yml, a workflow_call reusable workflow, and call it
from three thin trigger workflows so all three merge phases run the identical
pipeline instead of drifting copies.

  xpu-heterogeneous-run.yml new, reusable. guard, changed-files,
                                      build-xpu, build-nvidia, resolve-images
and both heterog tests, unchanged, plus
                                      7 inputs.
pr-xpu-heterogeneous.yaml reduced to the pre-merge trigger, the
                                      slash-command gate and the reaction.
  post-merge-xpu-heterogeneous.yaml new. push to main.
nightly-xpu-heterogeneous.yaml new file, but the cron is MOVED, not
                                      added: it is the 0 23 * * * schedule
                                      that was already in
                                      pr-xpu-heterogeneous.yaml.

No behaviour change per phase. force_all_tests replaces the old
  github.event_name == 'schedule' || github.event_name == 'issue_comment'
expression with the same truth table: pre-merge passes
github.event_name == 'issue_comment', nightly passes true. Post-merge also
passes true, because a push to main has no PR base for
.github/actions/changed-files to diff against, and post-merge exists to catch
what per-PR gating missed.

xpu-status-check stays a TOP-LEVEL job in each caller rather than moving into
the reusable workflow. A job contributed by a reusable workflow reports to the
Checks API as "run / xpu-status-check", so hosting it there would rename the
context and leave any branch protection rule requiring xpu-status-check waiting
forever on a check that no longer reports.

The concurrency mapping stays byte-identical across all four workflows that
touch this hardware, now including xpu-heterogeneous-dispatch.yaml. Three files
do NOT get three slots: the cluster, the dynamo-system namespace and the
onexpu-/onenvidia-rdma-kueue ResourceClaimTemplates are one global resource.
The reusable workflow deliberately carries no concurrency block of its own,
which would deadlock against the slot the caller's run already holds.

Parameterised gpu_tag, model, tensor_parallel and runner as inputs so the
callers can diverge; all default to the previously hardcoded values. Added
workflow_dispatch to the nightly, without which a schedule-only workflow cannot
be exercised before it reaches the default branch.

Verified: all files parse; the four concurrency mappings are byte-identical; the
reusable workflow declares no concurrency; every input each caller passes exists
and every required input is supplied; nesting is depth 3 of the 4 GitHub allows.
actionlint was not available to run, and will report queue:max as an unknown key
in all four files, a known false positive.
