OpenCode's binary path is passed literally to subprocesses, so the ~/.local/bin/opencode wrapper shown in #29302 fails with spawn ~/opencode ENOENT. Expand the path against the server's home directory once, as Codex and Claude already do, and pass that configuration to both OpenCode runtimes, including the 1.x session adapter.

Refs #29302. This qualifies as a small, focused fix for an obvious bug under CONTRIBUTING.md: it corrects the existing executable-path setting without adding Flatpak detection or changing installation behavior.

Verification:

  • Added a regression that launches a real executable wrapper and HTTP helper from a home directory containing spaces, then checks provider readiness, version, and discovered models. It failed before the fix with spawn ~/opencode ENOENT and passes afterward. All 14 driver tests pass.
  • vp run check:changed upstream/main passes formatting, lint, both knip checks, typechecks for 10 affected packages, and 15 tests across two files.
  • Ran the actual OpenCode 2.2.5 CLI through a ~/opencode wrapper using flatpak run --command=<CLI> org.freedesktop.Platform, with isolated configuration/data and an accessible project directory. The provider returned status: ready, version: 2.2.5, and 8 models. This checks the Flatpak runtime/CLI wrapper path; the packaged T3 AppImage and Flathub desktop package were not tested.

The fix is server-side and applies to web, desktop, and mobile connections to that server. No UI or wire-contract changes.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at 2d4dd20

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — OpenCode now expands home-relative executable paths consistently for probing and execution. Ordinary paths and product defaults remain unchanged, with no obvious material risk requiring human review.

Walkthrough

The OpenCode driver expands ~ in the configured binary path using the host home directory. An integration test checks that a home-relative wrapper starts and reports its version and model.

The driver expands binaryPath and passes the effective configuration to the v1 adapter. The integration test checks ready status, version 1.18.32, and discovery of opencode/big-pickle through a home-relative wrapper.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "fix(opencode): expand home-relative executable paths" matches the main change. The driver now expands config.binaryPath against the home directory before passing it to the v1 adapter, and the new test covers that path. It is a conventional commit title in plain language and stays short.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description follows the template. It gives the problem (the binary path is passed literally, which causes spawn ~/opencode ENOENT) and the change (expansion against the server home directory, applied to both runtimes, including the 1.x adapter). It also covers scope: the author cites CONTRIBUTING.md's small-focused-fix exemption and links #29302. Verification is detailed: a regression test that failed before and passes after, the check:changed run, and a Flatpak CLI run. It states what was not tested, namely the AppImage and Flathub packages. The description does not link a maintainer approval comment, and the author's justification relies on the small-fix exemption. That gap is minor, so the check passes. The template's agent-attribution line is present.

Add a caller-to-adapter regression case for v1 sessions.

This test calls only instance.snapshot.refresh. That path uses the expanded configuration. A v1 openSession uses the adapter settings instead.

If the adapter receives the original ~/opencode value, connectToOpenCodeServer takes the local-server branch and starts a new process with that value. OpenCodeServerLedger records and cleans up processes; it does not reuse an existing server. The session can therefore attempt to spawn the literal home-relative path, while this test still passes.

Add a driver-level v1 session case with a home-relative path. Exercise the real startup path and assert that the session starts through the expanded executable path.

Note

Written by gpt-6.1-sol on behalf of Maria

Verified in a real dev environment

Verified exact head 2d4dd202e8edab0d09e863adc30287de3d3ef5cd on a Linux Boat VM with Playwright, /usr/bin/google-chrome, the running dev web client, and real provider CLIs. No source changes were needed.

  • Reproduced on github/main (71646e031a) in a separate worktree: configuring ~/pr29326 wrapper/opencode reports OpenCode as not found and discovers no models, although the executable exists.
  • Stopped main before starting the PR. On the PR head, the same home-relative path with spaces reports OpenCode 1.19.5 and discovers 37 models. The setting remains home-relative after reload.
  • Added the real checkout as a project through the app. A real Codex gpt-6.1-sol turn returned CODEX_PATH_OK.
  • OpenCode's free model rejected an initial request with a usage-limit error. Configured the real wrapper to use the VM's local proxy and gpt-6.1-sol; a new OpenCode 1.x session returned OPENCODE_HOME_OK, and a follow-up in that session returned OPENCODE_FOLLOWUP_OK.
  • The equivalent absolute wrapper path also discovered models and completed a new turn returning OPENCODE_ABSOLUTE_OK.
  • Blacksmith: all 14 driver tests passed. vp run check:changed 47f2c8d29e981c7723467efe137ee19e91df924e passed format, lint, both knip checks, typechecks for 10 packages, and 15 tests across two files. The initial shallow worker needed the PR parent fetched before this check could run.

Before, main:

main rejects the home-relative OpenCode executable

After, PR:

PR discovers OpenCode through the same home-relative executable

real OpenCode session and follow-up responses

real OpenCode follow-up interaction

Not verified

OpenCode 2.x was not installed; the real session checks used 1.19.5. Native iOS/Android, packaged Electron, macOS/Windows, Flatpak/AppImage packaging, external OpenCode servers, and remote/tunnel connections were not exercised on this Linux VM. The initial free-model request hit an external usage limit; successful inference used the local proxy.
