To reviewers: this is obviously lacking tests. Due to time constraints on my end, I've just pushed this to see if it passes the existing CI. This PR is a much simpler alternative to #17756 if it works. If CI passes, I will test this in Square's environment to see if it solves the problem it intends to, and then will add a regression test. |
