V2 errors lose terminal sanitization
Medium Severity
Plain-text ERROR: replies and invalid v2 bodies are now thrown as raw socket text. The previous path ran them through CLITerminalText.printable, so control characters no longer get stripped before they reach the terminal.

Disable cache writes in the release build.
The release build job builds, signs, and publishes binaries. The job restores and saves a Swatinem/rust-cache cache. Other workflows that share the cache scope can write that cache, so a poisoned cache can reach the released artifacts. In the release job, set save-if: false or drop the cache.

Do not discard a valid reply when the peer closes.
When the server sends its response and closes before this iteration, macOS rejects setsockopt(SO_RCVTIMEO) with EINVAL. Unix-socket disconnection sets the shutdown flags that cause this rejection. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
configureResponseReceiveTimeout then closes socketFD and throws. The strict reader loses buffered response bytes or cannot observe the required EOF. Valid handoffs therefore fail depending on response/close scheduling. The existing readStreamLine accounts for this condition at Line 4519.
Let sendSingleFrame own the deadline and framing transition. Its invariant must remain: accept one complete frame followed by EOF, and reject extra bytes. First migrate this loop to deadline-bounded readiness waits and nonblocking reads. Add a deterministic test that queues the response and closes the peer before reading starts.
As per coding guidelines, the fix must name “the invariant, source of truth, or state transition”.

Change the ["add", "codex"] assertion so that it expects no handoff.
CodeRouterLaunchPolicy.commandRequiresHandoff checks only commandArgs.first against ["codex", "opencode", "pi"] (see Packages/macOS/CmuxControlSocket/Sources/CmuxControlSocket/Transport/CodeRouterLaunchPolicy.swift lines 10-13). For ["add", "codex"] the first element is "add", so the function returns false. This #expect therefore fails, and the test fails on every run.
The policy is correct and the assertion is wrong:
- On the Rust side,
parse_hidden_argsincoderouter/src/handoff.rsaccepts onlycodex,opencode, orpiasargs[4]. cli::runrejects all other commands when a handoff is requested.
If cmux armed a handoff for add codex, the Rust CLI would reject the launch. The test name also says "only exact top-level agent names use socket handoff". add codex is a management command and must not arm.

The PTY fallback does not forward stdin, so codex login cannot receive input.
The relay copies PTY output to stdout. No code writes the user's stdin to pair.master. If codex login waits for a keypress or a pasted value, it blocks forever. child.wait() has no timeout, so the CLI hangs. Use take_writer() and forward stdin to the PTY. If no input is needed, run codex login without a PTY and inherit stdio.

A non-interactive login should not choose browser login silently.
choose_add_action and choose_remove_account return a usage error when no TTY is present. choose_login_action instead returns Browser. A script that pipes stdin then starts a browser OAuth flow and waits for it. This behavior differs from the other menus. Return a usage error that names --no-browser and --code, as the other menus do.

Use the framer's bare-newline line end for the CodeRouter cap, and track it incrementally. Both readers find the line end with firstIndex(of: 0x0A), but framing does not treat a \r\n pair as a terminator. This causes two problems:
- Cap bypass. A valid JSON frame with an internal
\r\nis classified from a short ordinary prefix. The 4 KiB pre-JSON cap and the late-route scan never apply. The line buffers up to the general limit, and the<= 4_096check inauthorizedSocketCommandrejects it only after the full allocation and decode. - Quadratic cost. Each loop iteration rescans the whole pending line and reclassifies the method. As per path instructions,
.github/review-bot-rules/algorithmic-complexity.mdfails a rescan of the full buffer for each chunk.
Fix at each site:

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Code-signature validation runs on the main thread while the authorization lock is held.
The body passed to withTrustedPeerConnectionAuthorization executes inside v2MainSync. It also runs under the OSAllocatedUnfairLock in SocketConnectionAuthorizationState. In that body, codeRouterPeerVerifier.isTrusted calls several Security framework functions:
SecCodeCopyGuestWithAttributesSecCodeCheckValiditywithkSecCSStrictValidateSecCodeCopySigningInformationcsops_audittoken
These calls can do IPC and on-disk signature validation. While they run, the main actor stalls. Every socket reader that calls isConnectionAuthorizationCurrent also waits on the same lock. This breaks the lock's documented contract ("every critical section is bounded and performs no file or Keychain I/O"). As per coding guidelines, a heavy synchronous operation on the main actor or an interactive path must move off the main actor.
The exact audit-token equality check already detects an exec or PID reuse. A trust decision made earlier for the same token therefore stays valid.
Fix:
- Call
isTrusted(trustedPeerAuditToken)once on the socket worker, before thev2MainSynchop. - Inside the lock, keep only the token check, the start-time check, and the write.

Classify the CodeRouter method once per command, not six times.
authorizedSocketCommand runs for every socket command. This includes high-frequency traffic such as terminal input and report_* telemetry. Lines 102-105 call isCodeRouterHandoffCommand, isCodeRouterHandoffBeginCommand, and isCodeRouterHandoffArmCommand. Each call does a full ControlRequestParser().lenientRequest(fromLine:) parse. Lines 112, 154, and 194 call the same three predicates again. A command that is not a CodeRouter command therefore pays six full JSON parses before normal authorization. A preauthorization line can be up to 4 MiB. processSocketLine then parses again for isCodeRouterHandoffCommand.
Parse the method once, store it in a local value, and branch on that value. The per-site whitespace guard can use the same value.

#18953 left main unable to compile the app-host tests and failing three guards: - cmuxTests used String.replacingOccurrences(of:with:maxReplacements:), which CI's toolchain lacks; replace the first occurrence with range(of:). - cmuxTests read CMUXCLI's socket timeout, but the CLI is a tool target the test bundle cannot import; keep the two app-side assertions. - The handoff methods were added to a stale, uncalled copy of v2Capabilities() in TerminalController.swift; add them to the live list and drop the copy. - The two CodeRouter publish workflows need GitHub-hosted runners for npm provenance and PyPI trusted publishing; list them as guard exceptions. The stream and registration do not depend on the new terminal, so they now run beside the create on the machine's existing link, and the session adopts the registered stream and sends only attach-surface. The attach still waits for the registration acknowledgement; a different socket or a failed handshake falls back to the session's own registration. #18953's classification test expected `add codex` to arm the handoff, contradicting its own name ("only exact top-level agent names use socket handoff") and the launch policy. CodeRouter's handoff parser accepts only a provider name after `--`, and `add` does its own login without a handoff lease, so the policy is right and the expectation was wrong. Set an empty mask and default dispositions on both, as the other CLI spawn sites do. * Stop the CodeRouter line reader tests deadlocking the package run The CodeRouter reader tests added in #18953 handed each payload to a DispatchQueue.global writer and then blocked in an untimed poll(2). Swift Testing runs them in parallel on the fixed-width cooperative pool, so every pool thread could sit in poll while no thread ran a writer, and the whole CmuxControlSocket test run stalled until the 180s watchdog killed it. Queue each payload and EOF synchronously instead, with socket buffers large enough to hold the biggest fixture frame. The caps under test are unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Answer v2 test requests with the request's id #18953 made the CLI reject a v2 response whose id differs from its request. The shared UnixSocketResponder and RelaySocketResponder fakes, and the capabilities handler in the socket deadline test, replied with canned JSON that carried no id, so about 50 CLI tests failed with "Mismatched v2 response id". Splice the request's id into canned v2 responses the way the app's ControlResponseEncoder does; v1 lines and responses that already set an id are left byte-for-byte. * test(cloud): a full shared pool is not reported as a missing plan Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(cloud): explain a full shared pool instead of a missing plan A 402 vm_resource_pool_exceeded on a Pro team read as "Your plan does not allow this Cloud operation." because the client classified every 402 by status alone. Read the server's error code: a full pool names the vCPUs or memory in use and the request (reusing the sheet's pool shortfall copy), active-limit, create-credit and size-gated refusals get their own sentence, an unrecognised code keeps the server's message, and only a code-less 402 keeps the generic plan sentence. The pending create row offers Retry first and an upgrade second for a full pool. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(cloud): report a full pool as resource_limit and redact server copy Address review: the server's telemetry contract rejects an unknown failure class and drops the whole batch, so a full pool or active-limit refusal is classified as the existing resource_limit instead of a new capacity class. The open-workspace path now applies the same redaction fallback as create, and a full pool offers an upgrade only once the plan is known to have a higher tier. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(cloud): key create failure actions on the parsed refusal code Address review: the pending create row matched refusal codes as substrings of the display text, so a longer code such as vm_resource_pool_exceeded_v2 counted as a full pool. Read the code once from the exact (HTTP 402: <code>) reference the CLI and the in-process create both print, and compare it whole. Also translate the four new failure strings into every locale the catalog carries. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(cloud): carry the refusal code apart from the failure text Address review: reading the code back out of the failure text let a server message that named another code stand in for the real one. The in-process launcher now reads the code from the thrown error and the CLI path reads only the reference ending the CLI's own Error: header; both pass it through the create completion onto the operation, and the failed row's actions key on that carried code alone. A retry clears it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(cloud): cover the refusal code handoff to the failed row Address review: assert the app coordinator carries a launcher's refusal code onto the pending row and clears it on retry, that finish overwrites a code, and that an open failure on an existing machine keeps none. The Changes panel's diff open (SupermuxFileDiffOpener -> bundled `cmux diff -`) failed about every other time since the cmux upstream sync (#106), the CLI exiting 1 with "Error: Socket closed before reply". Root cause: upstream's CodeRouter handoff guard (559a4f6, landed via manaflow-ai/cmux#18953) makes ControlClientLineReader classify every line by a top-level `method` key in its first 4 KiB (`codeRouterHandshakeMaximumBytes: 4_096`, Sources/TerminalController.swift) and close the connection unanswered when a longer line has none there. SocketClient.sendV2Envelope wrote the request with one JSONSerialization pass, in the dictionary's per-process hash order, so the ~82 KB `browser.open_split` request (its `diff_viewer_files` allowlist names every viewer asset) put `params` before `method` in about half of the CLI processes. The opener's arguments are fine; any CLI request over 4 KiB had the same odds (upstream issue manaflow-ai/cmux#21222). Fix (touchpoint #1257, `cli-v2-request-method-first`): sendV2Envelope writes `{"method":…}` joined with the remaining keys sorted. This ports the sendV2 part of Neha Chaudhari's open upstream PR manaflow-ai/cmux#21345 (`ControlRequestLine.encode`); its streamV2, hook feed.push and Pi compacted feed parts are not ported here. The server guard is unchanged. Management/help paths stay direct exec without handoff.CmuxControlSocket captures peer audit token + process start time at accept, adds HMAC proof codecs and launch policy types, tightens line readers for handoff framing (one completion frame, fail-closed on late/oversized handoff routes), and exposes authorization helpers so credential-bearing handoff responses cannot race listener revocation.
