Summary

cmux omo points OpenCode at a shadow config dir (~/.cmuxterm/omo-config) that holds a copy of the user's opencode.json. Relative references in that copy, such as "prompt": "{file:./prompts/chief.md}", resolve against the shadow dir. Only node_modules and the oh-my-* files were linked there, so those references pointed at files that didn't exist and the config failed to load (#14844, second gap).

omoEnsurePlugin now links the other top-level entries of ~/.config/opencode into the shadow dir, so referenced files resolve. It also removes shadow links whose target in the user dir has since been deleted.

It deliberately does not link:

  • Files cmux writes itself: opencode.json(c), config.json, package.json, node_modules (linked separately, as before), plugins/ (holds cmux-session.js).
  • Dirs OpenCode already scans in the real ~/.config/opencode: agent(s), command(s), mode(s), plugin(s), tool(s), skill(s). In OpenCode 1.18.32, ConfigPaths.directories always includes Global.Path.config and adds OPENCODE_CONFIG_DIR on top of it. Linking these too would load each entry twice; every plugin would register its hooks twice.
  • Files OpenCode writes into each config dir: package-lock.json, npm-shrinkwrap.json, bun.lock(b), .gitignore. OpenCode runs an npm install in every config dir, and a linked lockfile would be rewritten through the link into the user's real file.

This contradicts one assumption in the issue: user agents and commands do load under cmux omo, from the real config dir. The breakage came from the relative {file:…} references.

The first half of #14844, JSONSerialization escaping / as \/, is covered by #14805, which fixes the same omoEnsurePlugin write. This PR doesn't touch it, so the two don't conflict.

The branch history keeps a first approach that also linked agents, commands and plugins, plus the commits that remove it once the double loading was found. Anyone who ran those intermediate commits can clear it with rm -rf ~/.cmuxterm/omo-config; main never linked them.

Part of #14844 (with #14805).

Testing

  • tests/test_cli_omo_shadow_config_mirror.py (new, macos-cli-no-socket lane) runs the real cmux omo models against a fake $HOME, opencode and bun. It checks:
    • prompts/chief.md is visible from the shadow dir.
    • Agents, commands, modes, tools, skills, plugin/, user plugins and package-lock.json are not in the shadow dir.
    • cmux-session.js is present and never written into the user's plugins/.
    • A removed user folder leaves no dangling link, while live links and the shared node_modules link survive.
  • Red/green, all against a locally built cmux-cli:
    • The mirroring check fails on d3700a1 and passes on 094c535.
    • The pruning check fails on ca58f4d and passes on 0e27510.
    • The exclusion check fails on 5a50424 (all eight entries were linked) and passes on 1c50cd6.
  • test_cli_omo_openagent_plugin_migration.py and test_cli_omo_fallback_path.py pass. test_cli_omo_tmux_respawn_pane.py (lane legacy) fails with expected leader and subagent panes, got [] both on this branch and on main's CLI, so that failure is unrelated.
  • OpenCode behavior was read from the anomalyco/opencode v1.18.32 source (config/paths.ts, config/config.ts, the discovery globs in config/agent.ts, config/command.ts, config/plugin.ts, tool/registry.ts, skill/index.ts), not run against a live OpenCode.
  • python3 scripts/verify-local.py --swift-changed origin/main: 13/13 checks pass. Localization: docs.ohMyOpenCode.shadowStep2 updated in en, ja and uk, the only locales that have that docs section.

Summary by cubic

Fixes cmux omo failing to load configs whose copied opencode.json uses relative references like {file:./prompts/chief.md}, which resolved against the shadow dir where those files didn't exist (part of #14844).

Notes

  • Links the rest of the user's ~/.config/opencode into the shadow dir so referenced files resolve, and prunes shadow links whose user target has been deleted.
  • Skips entries OpenCode already discovers in the real config dir (so plugins don't register hooks twice) and lockfiles OpenCode rewrites, so nothing loads or gets written through the link twice.
  • Adds a regression test that runs cmux omo models against a fake $HOME and verifies exactly which entries are mirrored.

Written for commit d7d57d5. Summary will update on new commits.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The OpenCode shadow setup now links eligible user configuration entries and removes dangling links. A CLI regression test checks mirroring and exclusions. English, Japanese, and Ukrainian documentation describes the updated behavior.

Changes

OpenCode shadow config mirroring

Layer / File(s) Summary
Shadow linking and setup
CLI/cmux.swift
The shadow setup excludes specified config entries and links eligible user entries. It removes dangling links, keeps links to the same target, replaces links to different targets, and leaves existing non-symlink entries unchanged.
Regression checks and documentation
tests/test_cli_omo_shadow_config_mirror.py, tests/test-execution.toml, web/messages/en.json, web/messages/ja.json, web/messages/uk.json
The registered CLI test checks copied config references, excluded entries, session-plugin placement, and pruning. The three translations describe linking files referenced by opencode.json and reusing the original node_modules.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to d7d57

Existing shadow links to excluded plugins can survive setup and cause duplicate loading. Remove those links before merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to d7d57

The change makes more user configuration files available to OpenCode, while excluding files that should remain independently managed. No new privilege escalation is established, but actual loading behavior and interrupted synchronization remain unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — Eligible user-controlled entries, including entries that are themselves symlinks, become visible under the shadow path to the launched OpenCode process. The inspected code does not establish access across a different user or privilege boundary.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The exclusion set keeps the specified OpenCode-discovered directories and writable package files out of newly created general-purpose links; generated configuration and the session plugin are handled separately.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Best-effort link failures can change which configured files are available at launch without stopping execution. The resulting OpenCode behavior, including any effect on security-relevant configuration, has not been verified.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Define whether unreferenced entries and source symlinks resolving outside the user config directory should be mirrored, then validate that policy against the real OpenCode loader.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 7 functions across 1 files. (5 skipped: 4 unsupported, 1 too large.)

Full details: Cmux Swift Package Boundaries

Explanation

The PR adds independently testable OpenCode shadow-config domain logic to the CLI target. CLI/cmux.swift introduces omoShadowUnlinkedConfigEntries and omoLinkEntries, which define exclusion policy and reconcile filesystem links using only Foundation URL and FileManager; omoEnsurePlugin calls this logic. The project file places cmux.swift in the cmux_cli target, and the diff adds no SwiftPM package. This is not UI, AppKit, Ghostty, or lifecycle composition glue.

Resolution

Extract the shadow-config linking policy and reconciliation logic into a small SwiftPM target named CmuxOpenCodeConfig. The first public API should be OpenCodeShadowConfigLinker, with an injectable filesystem abstraction or equivalent test seam and a method that links eligible entries and prunes stale links. Keep omoEnsurePlugin in CLI/cmux.swift as composition that resolves user/shadow paths, writes cmux-owned files, and invokes the package API. Add focused package tests for exclusions, replacement, preservation, and stale-link pruning.

Full details: Cmux Full Internationalization

Explanation

The PR materially changes the user-facing web documentation key docs.ohMyOpenCode.shadowStep2, which is rendered through useTranslations("docs.ohMyOpenCode") in the OpenCode docs page. The diff updates only web/messages/en.json, web/messages/ja.json, and web/messages/uk.json. web/i18n/routing.ts lists 20 locales, but the other 17 message files do not contain shadowStep2: ar, bs, da, de, es, fr, it, km, ko, no, pl, pt-BR, ru, th, tr, zh-CN, and zh-TW. This violates the requirement to represent changed web message content across every routed locale.

Resolution

Add a translated docs.ohMyOpenCode.shadowStep2 entry to web/messages/ar.json, bs.json, da.json, de.json, es.json, fr.json, it.json, km.json, ko.json, no.json, pl.json, pt-BR.json, ru.json, th.json, tr.json, zh-CN.json, and zh-TW.json. Keep the updated English, Japanese, and Ukrainian entries.

Remove existing links to excluded entries.

If the shadow directory already contains a live plugin link to the user config directory, this loop keeps it because the destination exists. The later linking loop skips plugin, so repeated setup cannot remove the link. OpenCode can still load that directory from both config paths and register its plugins twice.

Reconcile existing shadow links against excluded as well as missing destinations. Remove a link to an excluded user entry before creating eligible links. The shadow config setup should own that single exclusion invariant. As per coding guidelines, “Flag fixes that patch symptoms while leaving the bad state representable.”

Assert the shadow links before testing pruning.

omoLinkEntries creates directory symlinks for non-excluded entries such as prompts and snippets. The prompt checks only visibility and content, so a copied directory passes.
