When no GitHub tag is available, candidates include registry and override prefixes. Lock resolution selects matching package metadata or reports ambiguity for competing prefixes. - Line 777: Update the tagless resolution flow around
resolved_package_version_candidates so matching version-override prefixes are
not selected by registry order when the release tag is unknown. Confirm the
release tag before choosing a prefix, or reject ambiguous matches instead of
selecting one arbitrarily.

…ixes (#14232) <!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.io/gh/jdx/mise/trails/615 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> Follow-up to #14218, stacked on it (base is a copy of that PR's head, since its branch does not allow maintainer edits). Retarget to `main` once #14218 merges. `mise lock` no longer clones the aqua package once per version candidate for packages whose version overrides have no `version_prefix`, which is nearly every package. In that case every candidate resolves to the root prefix, so there is nothing to disambiguate and the ambiguity pass is skipped. Also: - the ambiguous-prefix error now ends "no exact release tag matched", which is accurate for HTTP packages that never have a tag - the ambiguity unit test is split from the known-tag test so each name describes what it asserts - the e2e ambiguity case runs `mise lock` directly through `assert_contains` instead of `echo '$output'` with `|| true` Behavior is otherwise unchanged. Validated with the 123 aqua backend unit tests and `test_lockfile_aqua_version_prefix_override`. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) *AI-assisted — Tool: Claude Code; model: anthropic/claude-sonnet-5-5; version: unavailable.* <!-- CURSOR_SUMMARY --> --- > [!NOTE] > **Low Risk** > Lock-path optimization and wording/test updates; ambiguous-prefix rejection is unchanged for packages that actually have override prefixes. > > **Overview** > **`mise lock`** for aqua packages now **skips the version-prefix ambiguity check** when none of the package’s `version_overrides` define a `version_prefix`. In that common case every candidate shares the root prefix, so the code no longer clones the package per candidate to compare prefixes. > > When ambiguity still applies (multiple override prefixes, no matching release tag), the error text now says **“no exact release tag matched”** instead of “was found,” which better fits HTTP packages without tags. > > Tests: the ambiguous-prefix unit assertion is split into its own test, and the e2e case asserts on **`mise lock`** stderr directly instead of capturing output with `|| true`. > > Reviewed by [Cursor Bugbot](https://cursor.com/bugbot) for commit 1e8000f. mise lock codex --platform windows-x64can now lock Codex 0.154.0 when the release-tag listing does not contain that pinned version. Previously, override selection received only0.154.0andv0.154.0, so the aqua registry'srust-prefix rejected every override. The empty asset name became.exe, and the Windows platform entry was skipped. It now resolvescodex-package-x86_64-pc-windows-msvc.tar.gzand records its checksum.Reuse the prefix-aware candidate selection already used during installation before applying lock-time version overrides. Exact release tags remain authoritative, and overrides still use the requested target platform. When tag lookup misses and multiple prefix families match, warn and skip that platform entry instead of choosing a release by registry order. Disjoint version constraints that select one prefix remain supported. This extends the installation metadata fix in #11499 to lock generation.
Validation: all 122 aqua backend unit tests and three focused lockfile end-to-end tests passed. The regression covers both the Codex-shaped Windows package and ambiguous prefixes with reachable archives; the ambiguity case fails against the previous PR binary. The real Codex 0.154.0 Windows lock reproduction succeeds with the expected archive and checksum. Strict workspace Clippy (
cargo clippy --workspace --all-features --all-targets -- -D warnings) passed. Scoped hk checks passed; the fullmise run lint-fixtask could not finish because the local environment lacksnpm:markdownlint-cli@0.49.1.AI-assisted — Tool: Codex; model: openai/unavailable; version: unavailable.
