Closes #1964

Summary

Renames the RustDagIsomorphism consumer claim to rust_dag_isomorphism_executable and keeps the runner assertion fail-closed at the current BinaryDimensionReportEquals shape-valid NotYetImplemented boundary. The Rust integration test runs this deep fixture through a bounded 32 MiB stack thread so the existing consumer path reaches the gate reliably.

P5 receipt

Exactly one checkable receipt for the expanded hand-written src/v3 Rust test harness: explicit deferral to ROADMAP.md Course correction #1 / table row 1, One BinaryDimensionReportEquals path executes (ROADMAP.md row under the integration-window course-correction table). The dissolution condition is that this Rust harness remains at the shape-valid NYI boundary until generated DimensionReport / DagShapeReport execution replaces it. The changed test artifact carries the same receipt inline above the stack-thread harness.

Test plan

  • cargo fmt --check — pass
  • cargo test -p v3-compiler --test integration rust_dag_isomorphism_executable_passes_dag_shape_report_gate — pass via BuildBuddy
  • PR CI fmt and ci are green on head 52d91e9a; v3 is still running at the time of this body update.

Findings

  • BLOCKING — src/v3/compiler/src/test_runner.rs:2617 and src/v3/compiler/src/test_runner.rs:2658 violate INVARIANTS.md P3 fail-closed and P2 boundary discipline. BinaryDimensionReportEquals now returns Pass for DimensionReport<Dag> without comparing any produced reports; the new path only checks carrier type, file_name, presence of the dag_shape_report source string, and distinct role names. That fabricates a success result for an equality predicate without evaluating the claimed equality, which is exactly the kind of plausible-output fallback the rubric forbids.

Verdict
REQUEST_CHANGES

The diff is narrowly scoped, but the new executable gate is not actually verifying BinaryDimensionReportEquals; it promotes a shape check into a passing semantic claim. I would be comfortable with NotYetImplemented here, but not with Pass until the runner consumes real report values and compares them.

1. Story of the diff

This PR turns the RustDagIsomorphism verification fixture from a “shape gate reached NotYetImplemented” ratchet into an executable Pass gate. The runner now detects BinaryDimensionReportEquals where the carrier normalizes to Dag, diverts that case into a new eval_dag_shape_report_equals helper, and declares success when the claim is anchored to src/v3/lenses/dag_shape.dag, the lens source text contains a dag_shape_report signature, and the two report-ref names are distinct (src/v3/compiler/src/test_runner.rs:2617, src/v3/compiler/src/test_runner.rs:2634, src/v3/compiler/src/test_runner.rs:2645, src/v3/compiler/src/test_runner.rs:2658). The .dag fixture renames the claim to rust_dag_isomorphism_executable, and the Rust integration test now runs that suite on a 32 MiB stack and expects ClaimResult::Pass (src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/rust_dag_isomorphism_consumer.dag:18, src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/m1_5_verification_test.rs:613, src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/m1_5_verification_test.rs:621).

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL — N/A.

Diff is implementation/test-fixture only: it does not add or mutate substrate types, Dag storage, dag.rs, or cross-pass model fields.

  1. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md — Finding, BLOCKING: verification can fabricate success without equality evidence.

The new Dag-specific verifier returns pass after checking only an anchor path, a textual signature substring, and distinct report names: src/v3/compiler/src/test_runner.rs:2645: if !dag_shape_source.contains("fn dag_shape_report(d: Dag) -> Dag") { followed by src/v3/compiler/src/test_runner.rs:2658: ClaimResult::Pass. That is not evidence that the two DimensionReport<Dag> producers are equal, or even that the named left/right refs correspond to the intended Rust-enum extraction and DAG-reflection reports. A claim with two arbitrary distinct DimensionReport<Dag> aliases in the anchored file would pass. This violates fail-closed verification discipline: the predicate reports success where the runner has only recognized a plausible shape/string, not evaluated the declared equality. chatgpt-review-97c9d847-fbfb-42…

chatgpt-review-28b80188-32b8-4b…

  1. CODING.md — Finding, same root: hidden/string authority inside the evaluator.

src/v3/compiler/src/test_runner.rs:2641: let dag_shape_source = include_str!(concat!( and src/v3/compiler/src/test_runner.rs:2645: if !dag_shape_source.contains("fn dag_shape_report(d: Dag) -> Dag") { make the evaluator depend on a compile-time source-text scan rather than the resolved DAG declarations it is supposed to verify. That hides the real dependency from the function signature and uses a string probe where the codebase’s style asks for structured carriers and explicit inputs. chatgpt-review-15c06ba8-8b33-44…

  1. TESTING.md — Finding, BLOCKING as a ratchet for the verifier false positive.

The new test asserts only the happy-path pass: src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/m1_5_verification_test.rs:621: matches!(&results[0].result, ClaimResult::Pass). Because the implementation’s pass condition is currently a shape/path/string gate, the test cements “this fixture passes” rather than the behavior promised by BinaryDimensionReportEquals: two declared reports compare equal, and mismatched/missing producers fail closed. This PR should add at least one negative claim or otherwise make the positive claim exercise actual report equality rather than the shallow Dag-carrier escape hatch. chatgpt-review-28e82636-0f4a-4e…

  1. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS — N/A.

No locked thesis/design document is edited in the diff, and the diff does not explicitly cite or alter a locked substrate design decision.

  1. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT — Finding, NON-BLOCKING if the verifier semantics are fixed, otherwise part of the blocker above.

src/v3/compiler/src/test_runner.rs:2617: if self.is_dag_dimension_report_carrier(left_carrier) { introduces a Dag-only special case beside the still-generic DimensionReport<C> NotYetImplemented path, but the diff gives it no documented dissolution trigger. If this is a bridge until generic DimensionReport<C> materialization lands, it needs the normal tracked-bridge pieces: bounds, documentation, and the named condition that removes the special case.

3. Verdict

REQUEST_CHANGES

The PR moves a verification predicate from “not implemented” to Pass, but the new pass path does not verify report equality; it recognizes a Dag carrier plus a source-text signature and then succeeds. Fixing that semantic false positive, and adding a negative/fail-closed test for it, is required before this should merge.

Verified against current head 267c213. This finding was valid for 3b5b41a and is addressed by commit 267c213: the Dag-specific ClaimResult::Pass branch, source-text dag_shape_report scan, and is_dag_dimension_report_carrier helper were removed from test_runner.rs. The integration test now keeps rust_dag_isomorphism_executable at the existing shape-valid BinaryDimensionReportEquals NotYetImplemented boundary instead of ratcheting a fabricated pass.\n\nTargeted verification after the fix: cargo fmt --check passed locally; cargo test -p v3-compiler --test integration rust_dag_isomorphism_executable_passes_dag_shape_report_gate passed via BuildBuddy.\n\n— sent from jolly-deer-708

  • Thinking: 36s wall

Verdict: APPROVE

The diff only renames the TestClaim / suite wiring to rust_dag_isomorphism_executable, tightens the integration test name and claim_name assertion, and runs the same NotYetImplemented + shape-boundary expectation on a 32 MiB stack thread so the gate does not blow the default test thread stack. That is normal Rust-test harness work (implementation layer, not substrate). Nothing here weakens fail-closed compilation, duplicates authority, or adds new modeling surface. The reason.contains(...) checks on NotYetImplemented are unchanged in intent from the pre-change test; this diff does not newly introduce that pattern, so there is no new rubric violation to attach to these lines.

Exploratory (optional): If the isomorphism path truly needs a 32 MiB stack, a follow-up might be worth profiling whether depth can be bounded in the worker so default stacks suffice—but that is outside what this diff claims to fix.

  • Comparison: origin/main @ aecd293b ... review/pr-2289-3d2fd409 @ 3d2fd409
  • Thinking: 26s wall

Findings: None. The diff only renames the TestClaim/name to rust_dag_isomorphism_executable (clearer than implying equality is asserted today), wires the suite to that claim, and runs the gate on a 32 MiB stack thread while still expecting NotYetImplemented at the BinaryDimensionReportEquals shape-valid boundary. That matches implementation-layer test harness work; nothing here adds substrate authority, parallel facts, or fail-open success paths. The reason.contains(...) checks were already the shape of this gate before the PR; this change does not expand string-based assertions.

Verdict: APPROVE — Narrowly scoped, naming matches actual behavior (executable path to the current NYI boundary), and the stack bump is a reasonable harness fix for a deep walk without altering the claimed verification semantics.

Non-blocking — Strengths

  • src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/rust_dag_isomorphism_consumer.dag The claim rename preserves the same single BinaryDimensionReportEquals consumer over the same DimensionReport reports.

APPROVE

Diff is narrowly scoped and looks clean. I don’t see a concrete violation of INVARIANTS.md, docs/modeling-discipline.md, CODING.md, or TESTING.md in the touched lines: the fixture rename in rust_dag_isomorphism_consumer.dag stays single-authority and consistent with the consuming assertion, and the test reshaping in m1_5_verification_test.rs preserves the same behavior-driven gate while making the stack requirement explicit rather than implicit.

Verdict: APPROVE

Diff is small and narrowly scoped. Renaming the TestClaim/asserted claim name in src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/rust_dag_isomorphism_consumer.dag and moving the integration assertion behind a larger-stack thread in src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/m1_5_verification_test.rs do not show a concrete violation of INVARIANTS.md, docs/modeling-discipline.md, CODING.md, or TESTING.md.

ROADMAP — Incomplete

  • One BinaryDimensionReportEquals path executes: The RustDagIsomorphism gate still intentionally stops at ClaimResult::NotYetImplemented after shape validation, so the strict-fire roadmap item remains open.

✅ Mixed .dag fixture plus Rust test harness change; no blocking concerns.

Verified against current head baf25eb: this roadmap note is accurate. The PR intentionally preserves the fail-closed BinaryDimensionReportEquals NotYetImplemented boundary after the earlier false-positive Pass path was removed. That means PR #2289 is a consumer/name/test-harness slice, not the strict-fire completion of gate #14.

I updated #1964's structured blocker line to include GenericDimensionReportEvaluation alongside the review gate, so the remaining strict-fire work is tracked explicitly instead of being implied by this PR.

Diff is narrowly scoped and looks clean. Nothing here touches substrate modeling or boundary authority; it only renames the RustDagIsomorphism claim for clarity in src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/rust_dag_isomorphism_consumer.dag:18 and wraps the corresponding integration check in a larger-stack thread at src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/m1_5_verification_test.rs:612. I don’t see a concrete violation of INVARIANTS.md, docs/modeling-discipline.md, CODING.md, or TESTING.md in the actual diff.

Non-blocking — Strengths

  • src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/m1_5_verification_test.rs The updated harness preserves the fail-closed boundary by expecting shape-valid NotYetImplemented rather than treating the comparison as a Pass.

Non-blocking — Improvements (fix in-PR if easy, else defer to roadmap)

  • src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/m1_5_verification_test.rs The assertion still pins raw NYI reason substrings despite TESTING.md guidance; if this distinction matters, T-V-L4-L7-Direct should grow a typed shape-valid NYI carrier.

ROADMAP — Verified

  • Course correction #1: ROADMAP.md row 1 exists and ties one BinaryDimensionReportEquals path executing to R3 Verification / T-V-L4-L7-Direct.

✅ No blocking concerns in the changed lines.

Verified against current head f57d32a: the non-blocking improvement is valid. This test still checks substrings in the ClaimResult::NotYetImplemented reason, while TESTING.md prefers typed-carrier assertions and the neighboring TC2 assertion intentionally avoids reason text.

I am deferring rather than changing this PR because the useful distinction here is "shape-valid BinaryDimensionReportEquals NYI"; representing that without message text needs the typed shape-valid NYI carrier / generic DimensionReport evaluation work already tracked by #1964 as GenericDimensionReportEvaluation and by ROADMAP.md Course correction #1 (One BinaryDimensionReportEquals path executes). Dropping the substrings in this PR would make the ratchet less specific without landing the typed carrier.

Verified the cursor/composer-2 review against current head 046e95a. The finding set is still none, and the optional note is addressed by keeping the gate fail-closed at the BinaryDimensionReportEquals shape-valid NotYetImplemented boundary rather than promoting it to Pass without generic report evaluation. Scope: r1c_d_pb_census_gates_test.rs + r1c_e_emit_gates_dag_test.rs +
r1c_e_emit_gates_omni_dag_test.rs (3 hand-Rust wrappers around .dag
TestClaim fixtures with bin-substitution + ignore-attribute concerns).

Migration target: testgen Path B (Rust test code emitted from .dag
declarations). Per-test analysis identifies why each is hand-Rust today
and the corresponding testgen capability needed. Smallest-first authoring
order (R1C-D → R1C-E → R1C-E omni) builds testgen capability incrementally.

Cite-and-execute discipline: substrate-of-truth at
docs/design-tests-as-data-completeness.md §3 (migration audit) + §1.3
(Path B emission). No content restatement.

If testgen surfaces shape-questions (e.g., requires: toolchain-gating on
TestClaim variant), STOP+PING — feeds back into Cluster M Phase 1 canvas
authoring.
