test(cake): shared check of the mode word in Cake training names (#8928) - #8947
#8928 renames every Cake training module to flashinfer.cake_<op>_<det|nondet>_train[_kcp]. Backends move under flashinfer/experimental/cake/<module>/, no entry point takes a deterministic= keyword, and the old names are removed without aliases. This PR adds a shared test helper, tests/test_helpers/cake_mode_names.py, so every family PR checks these rules the same way. Each family calls it from its own names test and passes its own module, namespaces and old names.
This PR does not rename any family and changes no library code.
What the helper checks
A module's public names are its __all__. If it has no __all__, they are the public attributes defined in the module (public_names(module)).
assert_mode_names(module, mode=None, *, names=None, stem=True, stem_exceptions=()): every public name carries the module's mode word and never the other mode's. In a snake_case name the word is the token det / nondet. In a CamelCase name it is the part Det / Nondet. Names are split on _ and on CamelCase boundaries, so nondet is its own token and never counts as det. ALL_CAPS constants are exempt. If mode is not given, it is read from the module name. With stem=True there is also an order check: snake_case names must start with cake_<op>_<mode>, or with is_<module> for the support query, and CamelCase names must start with Cake<Op><Mode>. Names in stem_exceptions skip the order check but not the mode-word check.
assert_no_deterministic_keyword(objs): inspect.signature(...).bind_partial(deterministic=False) must raise TypeError, so a **kwargs parameter fails too. This applies to a function, a class constructor, and forward / backward of a torch.autograd.Function subclass. Such subclasses are detected by the module and name of their base, without importing torch. No public method may have a parameter named deterministic, and the function it wraps (__wrapped__) may not have one either.
assert_same_object_same_name(module, namespaces=(), *, forwards=()): the facade and the namespaces a family passes may bind the facade module, a facade object or a backend object only under its facade name. Those namespaces are the flashinfer top level and the backend package or modules. Lazy names in flashinfer._LAZY_EXPORTS are checked statically, without importing anything. Backends are never looked up by path. A facade function that calls its backend is linked to the backend object only through the (name, object) pairs passed in forwards.
assert_old_names_fail(old_modules=(), old_names=(), *, cwd=None, timeout=_TIMEOUT): runs in a fresh sys.executable interpreter. Each old module path must raise ModuleNotFoundError, and each (module, name) pair must raise ImportError on from module import name. A leftover directory with no .py file counts as gone. The top-level package must still import, so a wrong sys.path cannot make the check pass. A timeout (default 600 s) counts as one failure.
assert_cake_mode_module(module, mode=None, *, namespaces=(), forwards=(), old_modules=(), old_names=(), stem=True, stem_exceptions=(), cwd=None, timeout=_TIMEOUT): runs all of the above for one facade and reports every failure in one AssertionError.
The helper imports neither flashinfer nor torch. Its self-test, tests/cpu/test_cake_mode_names.py, uses synthetic modules and standard-library names. It does not import flashinfer and needs no GPU.
Usage
This is an example only. The backend paths follow #8928, and the old names are placeholders that each family replaces with its own.

Summary by CodeRabbit
Tests
Added CPU-only coverage for Cake mode-name conventions, including capitalization, missing or misplaced mode tokens, and optional name stems.
Added checks for deterministic-parameter support across callable signatures and wrappers, and consistent aliases across module namespaces.
Added validation of retired import paths and names, with coverage for combined failures, package-directory cases, and interpreter timeouts.
…shinfer-ai#8928)
Add tests/test_helpers/cake_mode_names.py, the shared names test of
flashinfer-ai#8928, and its self-test tests/cpu/test_cake_mode_names.py (synthetic
modules and standard-library names; no flashinfer import, no GPU).
- assert_mode_names: every public name of a facade
flashinfer.cake_<op>_<mode>_train[_kcp] carries its mode word (token
det / nondet, CamelCase part Det / Nondet), never the other mode's;
ALL_CAPS constants are exempt; optional order check.
- assert_no_deterministic_keyword: no public callable accepts
deterministic: inspect.signature(...).bind_partial(deterministic=False)
raises TypeError (so **kwargs fails too) for a function, a class
constructor and the forward / backward of a torch.autograd.Function
subclass; no public method has a deterministic parameter.
- assert_same_object_same_name: the facade and the namespaces a family
passes (the flashinfer top level, its backend package or modules) bind
the facade module, a facade object or a backend object the facade
calls (forwards) only under its facade name. Lazy public names of the
facade count; _LAZY_EXPORTS rows are checked statically.
- assert_old_names_fail: old modules and names fail at import, in a
fresh interpreter.
- assert_cake_mode_module: all of them, every failure in one report.
This change adds a CPU-only test helper for validating Cake training module names, callable signatures, duplicate object bindings, and removed imports. Synthetic-module tests exercise the helper, including aggregated failures and fresh-interpreter checks.
The helper discovers public names and checks mode tokens, CamelCase parts, and optional mode-bearing stems. Tests cover conforming names, exceptions, and public-name discovery without __all__.
The helper checks callable signatures, wrapped functions, **kwargs forwarding, class methods, and autograd methods for deterministic. Tests cover accepted and rejected signatures.
The helper checks facade, backend, top-level, and lazy-export bindings for unexpected aliases. Tests cover re-exports and backend functions called by facade functions.
Combined validation and removed imports tests/test_helpers/cake_mode_names.py, tests/cpu/test_cake_mode_names.py
The combined check aggregates failures. Fresh-interpreter checks test removed modules and names, including import errors, stale package directories, and timeouts.
[cake] pplx kernel name refactor #8928: The issue describes Cake naming, keyword-removal, and old-import rules that this helper checks. The PR adds checks, but does not perform the family renames.
Possibly related PRs
flashinfer-ai/flashinfer#8092: Adds Cake mHC entry points with a deterministic keyword, which this helper can check.
flashinfer-ai/flashinfer#8054: Renames KDA training APIs and retains aliases, which this helper checks for naming and duplicate bindings.
flashinfer-ai/flashinfer#8028: Adds mHC det names and retains aliases across namespaces, which this helper checks for naming and duplicate bindings.
Merge Risk: Low · up to 0697d
The helper can incorrectly accept some naming and compatibility violations. Impact is limited to validation confidence, so merging carries bounded risk; correcting these gaps would make it more reliable before wider adoption.

Related issue: #8928
`assert_no_deterministic_keyword` in
`tests/test_helpers/cake_mode_names.py` was added by #8947, and
`assert_cake_mode_module` also runs it. For every public callable, it
requires `inspect.signature(entry).bind_partial(deterministic=False)` to
raise `TypeError`. Subscripted typing generics are callable and report
`(*args, **kwargs)`. As a result, the public type alias
`CakeGQANondetDkvAccSource` exported by
`flashinfer.cake_gqa_nondet_train` fails with:
`flashinfer.cake_gqa_nondet_train.CakeGQANondetDkvAccSource: takes a
'deterministic' parameter through **kwargs`
The alias is a type, not an entry point. Any facade that exports a
`typing` or `collections.abc` alias hits the same error.
The check now skips objects where `typing.get_origin(obj) is not None`,
using a new private `_is_type_alias`. It skips them at the module's top
level and among the public members of a class. If a class is public, it
is still checked even when an alias subscripts it. The module and
function docstrings document this. No library code changes. Families can
now run `assert_cake_mode_module` on a facade that exports a type alias
instead of calling each check separately.
### Tests
New self-tests in `tests/cpu/test_cake_mode_names.py`:
- Aliases at module and class level pass.
- An entry that takes `**options` and sits next to those aliases is the
only failure reported.
- An entry that takes `**options` and has a keyword-only `__signature__`
passes, also through `functools.wraps`. Without that signature it fails.
This is existing behavior that the KCP packages can rely on.
- `tests/cpu/test_cake_mode_names.py`: 50 passed (47 on main) on a
CPU-only cluster node in the CUDA 13.4 development container; pre-commit
passes.
- On main aa03372 with this helper, `assert_no_deterministic_keyword`
passes on `flashinfer.cake_gqa_nondet_train` and on its backend package
`flashinfer.experimental.cake.cake_gqa_nondet_train`. With the alias
skip disabled, it reports exactly the error above (a separate probe, not
part of this PR).

…ake_mode_names (#8962)
## Description
PR #8939 renamed the GQA HD256 training package to
`flashinfer.cake_gqa_nondet_train`. Its names test used a local token
splitter, `_tokens`, to check the mode word. PR #8947 later added the
shared helper `tests/test_helpers/cake_mode_names.py`. Every #8928
family uses it for the shared naming rules. #8947 asked each family to
adopt the helper in a follow-up rather than copy it. This PR makes that
change for the GQA family.
It changes one file,
`tests/experimental/test_cake_gqa_nondet_train_names.py`. It does not
touch library code, kernels, docs or benchmarks. The branch has two
commits on main `02b041cd`. The head is `6f1fc68d`.
Changes:
- **Removed:** the local `_tokens` splitter and
`test_mode_word_is_a_token`. The helper's own self-test in
`tests/cpu/test_cake_mode_names.py` covers token splitting.
- **Added:** `test_the_shared_mode_rules_hold`. It runs the helper's
four shared checks one at a time:
| Helper call | Input | Assertion |
|---|---|---|
| `assert_mode_names(public)` | Public names | Public names carry
`nondet` after the op |
| `assert_no_deterministic_keyword(...)` | Every facade `__all__` name
except the aliases in a new `TYPE_ALIASES` tuple | No entry point takes
a `deterministic` keyword |
| `assert_same_object_same_name(public, (flashinfer, package, backend),
forwards=...)` | Namespaces: `flashinfer`, the backend package
`flashinfer.experimental.cake.cake_gqa_nondet_train`, and its
`cake_backend` module | Each object is bound under only one name across
those namespaces |
| `assert_old_names_fail(old modules, old names, cwd=repo root)` | Old
module paths (including `flashinfer.gqa_train` and
`flashinfer.experimental.cake_gqa_train`), removed facade entries and
removed backend names | Old module paths and names fail at import in a
fresh interpreter |
- **Updated:** `test_public_names_carry_the_mode` now calls
`assert_mode_names(package, names=FORWARDED)` instead of the local
splitter. It covers the backend objects that the facade forwards to or
re-exports. Its other checks stay the same: each forwarded name is in
both the backend and package `__all__`, and both names refer to the same
object.
- **Unchanged:** the family's own checks.
- `deterministic=` raises `TypeError` for every entry.
- Only the backward's alert reads torch's deterministic mode.
- The `build.json` package and build identity checks still run.
- `test_no_entry_takes_a_mode_keyword` still checks each entry point's
signature. It covers the 5 facade entries, the 4 forwarded backend
functions, `CakeGQANondetWorkspace` and `CakeGQANondetFunction.forward`.
### Why the test does not call `assert_cake_mode_module`
`assert_cake_mode_module(flashinfer.cake_gqa_nondet_train, ...)` fails
with exactly one error:
```
flashinfer.cake_gqa_nondet_train.CakeGQANondetDkvAccSource: takes a 'deterministic' parameter through **kwargs
```
This is a false positive:
- `CakeGQANondetDkvAccSource` is a `typing.Callable` alias. It is the
type of the `dkv_acc` callable, and the facade re-exports it in
`__all__`.
- `inspect.signature` returns typing's `(*args, **kwargs)` for the
alias. As a result, the helper's keyword check treats it as an entry
point.
- The alias is a type, not an entry point. Calling it raises
`TypeError`.
The second commit calls the four checks separately and leaves the alias
out of the keyword check through `TYPE_ALIASES`. The family's own
`test_no_entry_takes_a_mode_keyword` still checks every real entry
point.
## Related Issues
- Part of #8928.
- Follows #8939 (GQA HD256 rename) and #8947 (shared helper).
- #8951 (standalone import check) has no GQA entry and needs no change.
## Tests

pass, no file rewritten |
| same node | `python scripts/check_pr_document.py --base 02b041c
--head 6f1fc68` | 0 new findings |
These are CPU-only tests (`pytest.mark.cpu_only`). No GPU run is needed
because no kernel or library code changes.
## Reviewer Notes
- The test now depends on `tests/test_helpers/cake_mode_names.py` from
#8947.
- Library behavior is unchanged.
- The helper's owner knows about the false positive for typing aliases.
If the helper later skips typing aliases, this test can go back to
calling `assert_cake_mode_module`.

…tion autograd package by its mode (#8928) (#8942)
## Description
Part of #8928. The issue renames every Cake training kernel so that each
public name states its mode (`det` or `nondet`). It removes the
`deterministic=` keyword and adds no aliases, so old names fail at
import. Each kernel family gets one PR with a migration table.
This PR covers the DSA sparse-attention training family. DSA is DeepSeek
Sparse Attention: top-k sparse MLA with absorbed queries and 64 query
heads. It runs on SM100a, SM103a and SM107a. The kernels are single
rank, with no KCP.
### Why `nondet`
This family has only a non-deterministic implementation:
- The forward is fixed-order.
- dq is fixed-order. Each row is written once, so dq is bitwise
reproducible run to run for one pass plan.
- The backward uses unordered atomics to add the dK / dV contributions
of every query row into FP32 accumulators. As a result, the key
gradients are not bitwise reproducible run to run. They differ within
the FP32 reduction spread. This covers `kv_latent` / `k_rope`, `kv` for
NoPE, and the rows added into a caller `dkv_acc`.
The name `flashinfer.cake_dsa_sparse_attention_det_train` is reserved
for a planned deterministic package. This PR does not add it.
### New facade module
`flashinfer.cake_dsa_sparse_attention_nondet_train` replaces
`flashinfer.dsa_sparse_attention`. It is a stable API:
- Its four entries use `@flashinfer_api` instead of
`@flashinfer_experimental_api`. They emit no `ExperimentalWarning`.
- It imports its backend lazily, on the first call or first access.
Importing the module imports no backend.
- It re-exports three backend autograd classes. A module `__getattr__`
resolves them on first access.
| Re-export | Role |
| --- | --- |
| `CakeDSASparseAttentionNondetFunction` | autograd Function of both
rope entries |
| `CakeDSASparseAttentionNondetNopeFunction` | flat NoPE |
| `CakeDSASparseAttentionNondetNopeVarlenFunction` | varlen NoPE |
`__all__` contains:
- The environment-variable name constants `DKV_DIRECT_ENV`,
`CHECK_DST_MAP_ENV` and `BINDING_CACHE_CAPACITY_ENV`. ALL_CAPS constants
keep their names.
- The three classes above.
- The four entries:
| Entry | Input | Scores |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `cake_dsa_sparse_attention_nondet` | flat | rope + latent |
| `cake_dsa_sparse_attention_nondet_varlen` | packed documents | rope +
latent |
| `cake_dsa_sparse_attention_nondet_nope` | flat | latent only (NoPE) |
| `cake_dsa_sparse_attention_nondet_nope_varlen` | packed documents |
latent only (NoPE) |
### Deterministic mode (rule 8)
No entry takes a `deterministic` keyword. If you pass one, Python raises
its own `TypeError`.
| `torch.use_deterministic_algorithms(...)` | Forward | Backward |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `True` | Runs. The output matches the output outside the mode. |
Raises a PyTorch-style alert `RuntimeError` ("... does not have a
deterministic implementation, but you set
'torch.use_deterministic_algorithms(True)' ...") |
| `True, warn_only=True` | Runs | Emits one `UserWarning` per backward
call, then runs this package's backward |
- The backward raises the alert before it allocates its backward buffers
and before its first backward kernel launch. Some deterministic
preparation can run before the alert:
- copying a `dout` that the TMA descriptor cannot address;
- planning a new binding, which can JIT-load the backward stages and,
without a caller `topk_length`, allocates the binding's `[T]` int32
row-length vector and fills it with `topk` (one fill kernel);
- validating `dkv_acc` / `dkv_dst_map`.
- A backward with no query rows launches nothing and does not alert.
- Nothing falls back to a deterministic implementation.
- PyTorch has no public Python entry for its alert, so the backend
raises the alert itself. When the backward runs, it reads
`torch.are_deterministic_algorithms_enabled()` and
`torch.is_deterministic_algorithms_warn_only_enabled()`.
- The alert sits at the four backward launch points:
- the bound rope backward;
- the bound NoPE backward;
- `DSATrainRunner.backward`;
- `DSANopeTrainRunner.backward`.
The autograd path, the eager backend `backward` / `backward_nope` and
the prepared runners therefore all alert.

### Unchanged
- Kernels, programs, launch plans and numerics.
- The 33 `csrc` files. They move by pure renames, so they are
byte-identical and the csrc tree hash does not change.
- `cake_build.py`, `cake_jit.py`, `cake_launch.py` and `.gitignore`.
They are byte-identical.
- `build.json`, except for `"package"`.
- Generated names: the library / program stems
`cake_dsa_h64_train_<hex>` / `cake_dsa_h64_nope_train_<hex>`, and
`cake_jit.load_cake_dsa_train_module`.
- The environment variables `FLASHINFER_CAKE_DSA_DKV_DIRECT`,
`FLASHINFER_CAKE_DSA_CHECK_DST_MAP` and
`FLASHINFER_CAKE_DSA_TRAIN_BINDING_CACHE_CAPACITY`. These are tuning
switches and never select the mode.
- The names of internal backend helpers: `forward`, `backward`,
`forward_nope`, `backward_nope`, `prepare_dsa_train`,
`prepare_dsa_nope_train`, `DSATrainRunner`, `DSANopeTrainRunner`,
`BINDING_CACHE`.
- The names of ALL_CAPS constants.

New rule-8 tests in the API test file (GPU):
- **Strict mode, each of the four entries:** the forward output equals
the output outside the mode. `out.backward(dout)` raises, and no
gradient reaches the leaves.
- **`warn_only`, each entry:** the backward issues exactly one alert of
this package, under the expected entry name, and runs. Query gradients
are bitwise equal to those outside the mode. Key gradients are within
rel. L2 < 1e-2 (the FP32 atomic spread).
- **Eager `backward` / `backward_nope` and prepared runners:**
- In strict mode, they alert. A prepared runner's strict-mode backward
leaves every output and FP32 accumulator buffer unwritten (sentinel
check).
- With `warn_only`, each issues exactly one alert under its own entry
name and runs. dq is bitwise equal, and dK/dV (including the NoPE
runner's `dkv`) are within the FP32 spread.
- **CPU:**
- The alert helper follows the torch mode: nothing outside the mode,
`RuntimeError` in strict mode and `UserWarning` with `warn_only`.
- The alert message names no other package.
- A backward with zero query rows launches nothing and does not alert.
- **Docstrings:** every entry docstring states the behaviour under
`torch.use_deterministic_algorithms`. The entries are not marked
experimental.
Checks in the names test (CPU only):
- Every `__all__` name except the ALL_CAPS constants contains the mode
word `nondet` as a whole token, after splitting at `_` and CamelCase.
- `inspect.signature(...).bind_partial(deterministic=False)` raises
`TypeError` for:
- the four facade entries;
- the backend objects of the same names;
- `forward` / `backward` of the three autograd Functions.
- The facade re-exports are the backend classes. Old names are absent
from both the facade and the backend.
- The former modules `flashinfer.dsa_sparse_attention`,
`flashinfer.experimental.cake_dsa_train` and
`flashinfer.experimental.cake_dsa_train.cake_backend` do not import.
- In a fresh interpreter, `import flashinfer` and importing the facade
load no backend module. The first access of a re-exported class loads
it.
- It also runs the shared #8928 check `assert_cake_mode_module`
(`tests/test_helpers/cake_mode_names.py`, #8947) on the facade, with
`flashinfer`, the backend package and `cake_backend` as namespaces.
### Standalone build (#6553)
Asks 3-9 and constraints 1 and 3 of the issue hold for this package:
- The backend moved as a whole directory, together with `build.json`,
`cake_build.py` and `csrc/cake_ffi_checks.h`. Manifest paths are
package-relative.
- The backend is self-contained. It uses only package-relative imports
plus torch and tvm_ffi. The only `flashinfer` import is the shared
loader's guarded JIT fallback in `cake_build.py`. It sits inside a
function and is the same in every package.
- Only the package name chooses the mode. There is no `deterministic=`
keyword and no mode environment variable.
- The `PACKAGES` row is updated.
- Constraint 2, the shared CI check that imports every `PACKAGES` entry
with `flashinfer` blocked, is a separate shared test with its own owner
and is not in this PR. This PR ran the same kind of check for this
package; see the standalone vendoring check under Validation.
Vendoring path map row:
| Old path | New path | Mode |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `flashinfer/experimental/cake_dsa_train/` |
`flashinfer/experimental/cake/cake_dsa_sparse_attention_nondet_train/` |
non-deterministic before and after |
v0.7.3rc1, v0.7.3 and v0.7.4rc1 all use the same old path.
### Overlapping open PRs
These open PRs touch the old paths. Whichever PR lands second updates
its paths.
- #6205 packages the old `cake_dsa_train` JIT sources (`pyproject.toml`
and a packaging test).
- #8440 edits `flashinfer/experimental/cake_dsa_train/cake_build.py`,
among other packages.
- #8659 is a kernel fix in two `cake_dsa_train/csrc` kernel files and
`build.json`. If it lands first, merging main into this branch carries
the change to the new path through git rename detection.
`scripts/check_cake_build_manifests.py` then re-checks the digests.
### Remaining old-name hits
All remaining hits are intended:
- The migration table in the backend README.
- The old-name literals in the names test.
- `name_prefix="dsa_sparse_attention"` in
`flashinfer/trace/templates/attention.py`. This is an inference trace
template, not part of this package.
Also kept on purpose: `load_cake_dsa_train_module` (a generated name)
and the `FLASHINFER_CAKE_DSA_*` environment variables.
### Validation
Cluster runs on B200 (sm_100a) and GB300 (sm_103a). Each main column ran
unmodified main on the same node, with the old file names.
- **GB300 (sm_103a)**: branch at `3887b679`, main `555dd84e`. CUDA 13.4
(nvcc `cuda_13.4.r13.4/compiler.38855100_0`), torch 2.14.1+cu130,
tvm-ffi 0.1.15.post0, driver 580.159.03. The current head `4a327d12`
merges main `98fd797c` (#8936) into `3887b679`; that merge changes only
the shared pre-commit exclude and `PACKAGES` rows, no file of this
family.
- **B200 (sm_100a)**: branch at `4a327d12`, main `98fd797c`. Same
toolchain, driver 580.82.07. The current head `30e39058` merges main
`02b041cd` (#8939, #8922) into `4a327d12`; that merge changes only the
`pyproject.toml` package-data row. At `30e39058` the CPU checks ran
again on a CPU node: names test + `test_containment.py` 14 passed,
manifest check 0 findings, pre-commit passed.

- The API file has 13 more tests on the branch: the rule-8 tests above.
The names test includes the shared check of #8947
(`test_shared_mode_name_checks`).
- The 7 skips are the same on both sides. Six are opt-in: two large NoPE
cases (`FLASHINFER_CAKE_DSA_NOPE_LARGE_TESTS=1`) and four eager
peak-memory comparisons, one per checkpoint entry, which need a recorded
reference in `FLASHINFER_CAKE_DSA_CKPT_DIGESTS` (unset, so each reports
its peak and skips). The seventh is a test of a NoPE record without
kernels; it skips because the NoPE program and its libraries are
registered, and the other GPU tests cover that path.
- Standalone vendoring check: copy the backend directory outside the
source tree as a top-level package. Block every `flashinfer` import.
Import every module of the package, and load `build.json` through the
vendored `cake_build` (digest check of every source). Build all 42
libraries (sm_100a, sm_103a, sm_107a) with nvcc from `build.json` alone,
write `aot/build_info.json`, and load each library through the vendored
loader. No `flashinfer` module is imported at any point.
Kernel math is unchanged; the device tests run the same cases as before
the rename.

## Summary by CodeRabbit
* **New Features**
* Added stable training APIs for rotary and NoPE sparse attention, with
fixed-length and variable-length options.
* Backward operations now raise an error or warn and continue when
PyTorch deterministic algorithms are enabled, depending on the
`warn_only` setting. Forward operations remain unaffected.
* **Updates**
* Renamed the training APIs; previous names are no longer available.
* **Documentation**
* Added API guidance on nondeterministic backward behavior and
deterministic-algorithm settings.

Related issue: #8928
#8928 renames every Cake training module to
flashinfer.cake_<op>_<det|nondet>_train[_kcp]. Backends move underflashinfer/experimental/cake/<module>/, no entry point takes adeterministic=keyword, and the old names are removed without aliases. This PR adds a shared test helper,tests/test_helpers/cake_mode_names.py, so every family PR checks these rules the same way. Each family calls it from its own names test and passes its own module, namespaces and old names. This PR does not rename any family and changes no library code.
What the helper checks
A module's public names are its
__all__. If it has no__all__, they are the public attributes defined in the module (public_names(module)).assert_mode_names(module, mode=None, *, names=None, stem=True, stem_exceptions=()): every public name carries the module's mode word and never the other mode's. In a snake_case name the word is the tokendet/nondet. In a CamelCase name it is the partDet/Nondet. Names are split on_and on CamelCase boundaries, sonondetis its own token and never counts asdet. ALL_CAPS constants are exempt. Ifmodeis not given, it is read from the module name. Withstem=Truethere is also an order check: snake_case names must start withcake_<op>_<mode>, or withis_<module>for the support query, and CamelCase names must start withCake<Op><Mode>. Names instem_exceptionsskip the order check but not the mode-word check.assert_no_deterministic_keyword(objs):inspect.signature(...).bind_partial(deterministic=False)must raiseTypeError, so a**kwargsparameter fails too. This applies to a function, a class constructor, andforward/backwardof atorch.autograd.Functionsubclass. Such subclasses are detected by the module and name of their base, without importing torch. No public method may have a parameter nameddeterministic, and the function it wraps (__wrapped__) may not have one either.assert_same_object_same_name(module, namespaces=(), *, forwards=()): the facade and the namespaces a family passes may bind the facade module, a facade object or a backend object only under its facade name. Those namespaces are theflashinfertop level and the backend package or modules. Lazy names inflashinfer._LAZY_EXPORTSare checked statically, without importing anything. Backends are never looked up by path. A facade function that calls its backend is linked to the backend object only through the(name, object)pairs passed inforwards.assert_old_names_fail(old_modules=(), old_names=(), *, cwd=None, timeout=_TIMEOUT): runs in a freshsys.executableinterpreter. Each old module path must raiseModuleNotFoundError, and each(module, name)pair must raiseImportErroronfrom module import name. A leftover directory with no.pyfile counts as gone. The top-level package must still import, so a wrongsys.pathcannot make the check pass. A timeout (default 600 s) counts as one failure.assert_cake_mode_module(module, mode=None, *, namespaces=(), forwards=(), old_modules=(), old_names=(), stem=True, stem_exceptions=(), cwd=None, timeout=_TIMEOUT): runs all of the above for one facade and reports every failure in oneAssertionError. The helper imports neither flashinfer nor torch. Its self-test,
tests/cpu/test_cake_mode_names.py, uses synthetic modules and standard-library names. It does not import flashinfer and needs no GPU.Usage
This is an example only. The backend paths follow #8928, and the old names are placeholders that each family replaces with its own.
Tests
tests/cpu/test_cake_mode_names.py: 47 passed on a CPU-only cluster node (32 CPUs) in the CUDA 13.4 development container.scripts/check_cake_build_manifests.py: 0 findings for 44 packages (unchanged by this PR).Summary by CodeRabbit
