This change implements the first groundwork item of #8928 ("Docs: the naming rules and the target table"). It adds the ten naming rules from the issue to docs/training_backend_names.md. Modules are named flashinfer.cake_<op>_<mode>_train[_kcp], where the mode is det or nondet. Each module has a matching autograd functional, Function class, verb-suffixed helpers that use forward/backward (never fwd/bwd), an is_<module>_supported query and a type pattern. No entry point takes deterministic=. Under torch.use_deterministic_algorithms(True), nondet raises PyTorch's alert at its non-deterministic step. With warn_only=True, it warns and runs nondet. It never falls back to det, and det never alerts. There are no aliases, so old names fail at import. Name parts always follow the order op -> mode -> train -> kcp -> verb.
The doc also includes the target table for every family: RMSNorm, SiLU-gated RMSNorm, causal conv1d, mHC, mHC head, GDN, KDA, LM head, MoE grouped GEMM, dense GEMM, DSA indexer, DSA sparse attention and GQA HD256. It adds the KCP entry example using KDA det and the decisions from the issue: GDN nondet stays, mHC head becomes its own family, and missing versions keep their reserved names. The existing per-family sections, which today cover only the LM head, move under a "Current names" heading. They stay in effect until each family's rename PR lands. Families will be renamed one per PR, and each PR will carry its own migration table and update that family's rows in this file.
This is a docs-only change with no code changes. Part of #8928.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Documentation
Added naming guidance and examples for CAKE training families, including determinism modes, KCP routing, and reserved or separately named families.
Documented LM-head and GQA HD256 non-deterministic name migrations, alias availability, deterministic-algorithm behavior, and unchanged build identities.
… target table
Add the naming scheme of issue flashinfer-ai#8928 for every CAKE training family: the ten
rules, the target table of module, autograd entry and class names per family,
mode and route, the KCP entry example and the decisions. The existing per-family
sections move under "Current names"; they stay in effect until each family's
rename lands.
The documentation defines naming rules and target names for CAKE training families. It also records migration mappings and behavior notes for the GQA HD256 non-deterministic family.

LGTM, one nit: the GQA migration table says gqa_train_workspace becomes cake_gqa_nondet_train_workspace, but rule 4 says helper names take a verb suffix (_forward, _backward, _workspace_bytes). _workspace isn't one of those verbs.

…by its mode (#8928) (#8939)
## Description
This PR renames the GQA HD256 training package to
`flashinfer.cake_gqa_nondet_train`. The new name states the mode of the
package: `nondet`.
Issue #8928 renames every Cake training kernel delivered for Perplexity.
After the rename, each name states its mode (`det` or `nondet`). The
issue also removes the `deterministic=` keyword. The rename adds no
aliases, so old names fail at import. Each kernel family gets one PR
with a migration table. This PR covers the GQA HD256 family.
**Why `nondet`.** The GQA HD256 family has only a non-deterministic
implementation today:
- The forward is fixed-order.
- The backward uses atomic FP32 reductions to add the dQ partials of the
key blocks.
- With a row map, the backward also uses atomic FP32 reductions to add
the dK / dV window rows into caller-owned destinations.
Because of these atomic reductions, the gradients are not bitwise
reproducible from run to run. The name `flashinfer.cake_gqa_det_train`
is reserved for a planned deterministic implementation. This PR does not
add it.
**New facade module.** `flashinfer.cake_gqa_nondet_train` is a new
stable facade module.
- Its entries use `@flashinfer_api` instead of the experimental
decorator. They emit no `ExperimentalWarning`.
- The module imports its backend lazily, on first use. Importing the
module imports no backend.
- The module re-exports three backend objects. Each object resolves on
first access.
| Re-export | What it is |
|---|---|
| `CakeGQANondetFunction` | Autograd class |
| `CakeGQANondetWorkspace` | Workspace type |
| `CakeGQANondetDkvAccSource` | Type of the `dkv_acc` callable |
`__all__` contains these names:
- `cake_gqa_nondet`
- `cake_gqa_nondet_train_forward`
- `cake_gqa_nondet_train_backward`
- `cake_gqa_nondet_train_workspace`
- `cake_gqa_nondet_train_workspace_bytes`
- `CakeGQANondetFunction`, `CakeGQANondetWorkspace`,
`CakeGQANondetDkvAccSource`
**Deterministic mode (rule 8).** No entry takes a `deterministic`
keyword. If you pass one, the call raises `TypeError`.
| `torch.use_deterministic_algorithms` | Forward | Backward |
|---|---|---|
| `True` | Runs | Raises PyTorch's alert (`RuntimeError`) |
| `True, warn_only=True` | Runs | Emits one `UserWarning` per call, then
runs the non-deterministic backward |
- The backward here is `cake_gqa_nondet_train_backward`. It is also the
backward of `cake_gqa_nondet`.
- The alert comes after the argument checks, including the checks of
caller-provided `dq` / `dk` / `dv`. It comes before the backward
allocates its outputs or scratch, and before any launch.
- A backward with no (query, key) pair launches nothing. It does not
alert.
- Nothing falls back to a deterministic implementation.
- The backend raises the alert itself, because PyTorch has no public
Python entry for its alert.
- The check reads `torch.are_deterministic_algorithms_enabled()` and
`torch.is_deterministic_algorithms_warn_only_enabled()` when the
backward runs.

### Unchanged
This PR keeps the build identities and the internals:
- Kernels, programs, launch plans and numerics.
- Program and library stems: `cake_gqa_train_<20 hex>[_<arch>]`.
- Kernel symbols: `kernel_cake_gqa_train_<20 hex>`.
- `csrc` file names. The files move by pure renames. Their bytes are
identical.
- `cake_jit.LIBRARY_PREFIX = "cake_gqa_train"`.
- `build.json`: only `"package"` changes (and with it
`cake_jit.PACKAGE`).
- Internal backend helpers keep their names: `default_workspace`,
`load`, `record`, `stage_record`, `library_name`, `run_record`,
`parameters`, `specs_for_arch`, `is_prebuilt`, `device_arch`,
`sm_count`, `arch_for_capability`.
- ALL_CAPS constants keep their names: `ARCHES`, `HEAD_DIM`,
`ARCH_BY_CAPABILITY`.

New device tests for rule 8 in `test_cake_gqa_nondet_train.py`:
- In deterministic mode, the forward runs silently.
- In deterministic mode, the backward raises before any allocation or
launch: caller-provided `dq` / `dk` / `dv` keep their contents. The
tests cover the low-level entry and autograd.
- An empty backward runs without an alert.
- With `warn_only`, each backward gives exactly one `UserWarning`. Its
results are the same as outside deterministic mode for each dK/dV form.
Checks in `test_cake_gqa_nondet_train_api.py`:
- The entries are stable APIs. They emit no `ExperimentalWarning`.
- The re-exports are the backend objects.
- Importing the module imports no backend.
Checks in `test_cake_gqa_nondet_train_names.py` (CPU only):
- Every public name contains the mode word `nondet` as a token.
- `inspect.signature(...).bind_partial(deterministic=False)` raises
`TypeError` for these objects: the 5 facade entries, the 4 forwarded
backend functions, `CakeGQANondetWorkspace` and
`CakeGQANondetFunction.forward`.
- Each facade entry raises `TypeError` when called with
`deterministic=True` or `deterministic=False`.
- The former module paths raise `ModuleNotFoundError`.
- The former names are absent from the facade, the backend and
`flashinfer`.
- Only the alert reads torch's deterministic mode.
- The `build.json` package and the build identity.

**GB300 (sm_103a)**: queued; the same runs, plus the backend suite on
the vendored copy with `flashinfer` blocked, follow in a comment when
the node runs. The kernels and `csrc` are byte-identical renames, and
the one runtime change (the backward's alert before its outputs are
allocated) is host code.
## Reviewer Notes
**1. Old-name grep allowlist.** A whole-word, fully-qualified grep for
every old name and path finds them only in these places:
| Location | Reason |
|---|---|
| Moved `csrc/**` file names and kernel symbols | Build identity |
| `build.json` program, library and source entries | Build identity.
Only `"package"` changes. |
| `cake_jit.py` `MODULES` record literals and `LIBRARY_PREFIX` | Build
identity |
| Removed-name lists in `test_cake_gqa_nondet_train_names.py`, and one
`AttributeError` check in `test_cake_gqa_nondet_train_api.py` | Tests
that check that the old names are gone |
An unqualified grep also finds `DkvAccSource` in
`flashinfer/experimental/cake_dsa_train/`. That is the DSA family's own
type, not a GQA name.
**2. Release wheel.** The PyPI wheel excluded the old backend's `csrc`
through the one-level rule `flashinfer/experimental/<pkg>/csrc`. The
rule does not match the new location under
`flashinfer/experimental/cake/`. As decided in
#8928 (comment),
the release wheel now ships this package's `csrc/**`.
**3. Standalone build (#6553).** The backend directory moved whole, with
`build.json`, `cake_build.py` and `csrc/cake_ffi_checks.h`. Its manifest
paths stay relative to the package. The backend imports only its own
modules; `cake_build.py` imports `flashinfer.jit` only on its JIT
fallback, as before. It has no KCP package and no `requires`. The
`PACKAGES` key in `tests/test_helpers/cake_package.py` is now
`cake.cake_gqa_nondet_train`. The vendored gate result
(`scripts/check_cake_build_manifests.py --vendored-gate --package
cake_gqa_nondet_train`) is in the Tests table.
**4. API checker warning.** `scripts/check_pr_api_diff.py` reports the
removed public module `flashinfer.gqa_train`. That is intended: #8928
removes the old names with no alias, so the old import fails. The
Migration table above documents the move.
**5. Merge order.** This PR does not depend on the other family PRs.
#8930 contains the rules text.

…aining entries and drop the deterministic routing (#8925)
## Description
On main, `flashinfer.chunked_lm_head_*` runs the deterministic LM head
package by default. It also falls back to that package when torch's
deterministic mode is on. With this PR, that routing no longer exists.
The deterministic LM head entries now live in a new stable top-level
module, `flashinfer.cake_lm_head_det_train`, and their names state the
mode.
This PR covers the deterministic LM head family under #8928. Under that
issue, Cake training kernel names state their mode, and there is no
`deterministic=` keyword and no alias. The non-deterministic side
(`flashinfer.cake_lm_head_nondet_train`) comes in a separate PR from its
owner. That PR merges right after this one.
`flashinfer.cake_lm_head_det_train` exports
`cake_lm_head_det_train_{loss,logprob,preload,support_logprob,support_kl}`
in `__all__`. These entries use `@flashinfer_api` instead of the
experimental decorator, so they emit no `ExperimentalWarning`. The
module imports the backend lazily.
No entry, forwarded backend entry or autograd `Function.forward` accepts
`deterministic`. Passing it raises `TypeError`. Old names fail at import
because there are no aliases.
The five non-deterministic `chunked_lm_head_*` dispatchers stay in
`flashinfer.chunked_lm_head` until the non-deterministic rename PR
replaces that module. If they are called without `deterministic=False`,
they raise `ValueError` and the message names the deterministic entry to
use. They never route to the deterministic package.
Kernels, programs and numerics are unchanged.

base `5199813` (the main merge).
At head, 1730 tests ran: 865 passed, 0 failed and 865 were skipped. At
base, 852 passed and 2 failed. The two base failures are
non-deterministic tests, and this PR fixes them.

Final-head GPU evidence at `d4f2513765ad017a1bd7b7574a69b183959dbded`:
| GPU | Scope | Result |
| --- | --- | --- |
| B200 (`sm_100a`, Slurm `2518655.1`) | 11 det and existing non-det test
files, manifest, prebuild | 1727 passed, 3 skipped, 0 failed; manifest,
prebuild and pytest each returned 0. The Slurm step exited 1 **after the
tests** because result-copy retries failed; JUnit and logs are present
in the shared result directory. |
| GB300 (`sm_103a`, Slurm `1600041.1`) | Same 11 files across two test
runs | 1729 passed, 1 skipped, 0 failed; both test processes and
manifest check returned 0. |
B200 old/new comparison (`2519218.1`) covered 8 loss/logprob forward and
backward cases with BF16, H=4096, T=4096/16384 and V=32000/152064. Every
case was bitwise equal for the compared loss, log-probability and
gradients (0 mismatches). New/old median time ratios ranged from 0.983
to 1.026, with overlapping min/max ranges in all 8 cases. The comparison
step returned 0. The old and new entries reject V=151936 identically
because it is not divisible by 256.

## Reviewer Notes
The original Draft prerequisites have been verified; human review is
required before merge:
- The non-deterministic owner acknowledges the edits in their files.
- The B200 and GB300 GPU runs are in.
- The `flashinfer._LAZY_EXPORTS` row for `cake_lm_head_det_train` is
added once #8932 is on main. Per the #8928 backend-location decision,
the release wheel keeps the moved package's `csrc/**`.
Merge order: #8930 (docs), then this PR, then the non-deterministic
rename PR.
A whole-word and fully qualified grep of every old name and path finds

This change implements the first groundwork item of #8928 ("Docs: the naming rules and the target table"). It adds the ten naming rules from the issue to
docs/training_backend_names.md. Modules are namedflashinfer.cake_<op>_<mode>_train[_kcp], where the mode isdetornondet. Each module has a matching autograd functional,Functionclass, verb-suffixed helpers that useforward/backward(neverfwd/bwd), anis_<module>_supportedquery and a type pattern. No entry point takesdeterministic=. Undertorch.use_deterministic_algorithms(True),nondetraises PyTorch's alert at its non-deterministic step. Withwarn_only=True, it warns and runsnondet. It never falls back todet, anddetnever alerts. There are no aliases, so old names fail at import. Name parts always follow the order op -> mode -> train -> kcp -> verb. The doc also includes the target table for every family: RMSNorm, SiLU-gated RMSNorm, causal conv1d, mHC, mHC head, GDN, KDA, LM head, MoE grouped GEMM, dense GEMM, DSA indexer, DSA sparse attention and GQA HD256. It adds the KCP entry example using KDA
detand the decisions from the issue: GDNnondetstays, mHC head becomes its own family, and missing versions keep their reserved names.
