sgl-project/sglang#43043 derives multimodal pad values from SGLang's own item identity (four 62-bit values per item), and Kimi rejects caller mm_hashes. That breaks Dynamo's SGLang multimodal routing in three ways: - Kimi requests fail. - KV event batches with wide token ids fail to decode, so whole batches are dropped, including text stores and removals. - Request and event routing keys no longer match. Contain all three without an SGLang change: - Stop forwarding mm_hashes to wide-pad SGLang builds. - Decode event token ids as u64 and classify tokens >= 1,000,000 as multimodal on wide-pad sources. - Exclude multimodal blocks and their descendants. Text-prefix stores, removals and clears still apply, so multimodal requests route on their text prefix. Also make an empty removal a no-op in the concurrent radix tree, even for a worker it has not seen: a store that is dropped entirely is published as one so event ids stay contiguous. - Classify Eagle blocks over the window conversion hashes: the block plus the next block's first token. Keep the overlap token the last surviving block needs. Both flag states use the same windows. - Track exclusions for every source. Values that did not fit in u32 are excluded with their descendants and removals even without the flag; the flag additionally excludes every value at or above 1,000,000. - Carry the engine-owned capability per source instead of through a process environment variable: KvEventPublisher(engine_owned_mm_identity) for the worker relay, and the standalone indexer's register API, --workers flag and selection-service worker records. - Treat empty removals as no-ops in the positional indexer too. - Catch only ImportError when probing SGLang, and read the struct field directly. - Test Eagle boundaries in both flag states, exclusion scoping by worker, DP rank and tier, legacy pads, and the per-source flag in the publisher, registry and selection service. @harryskim, I’ve addressed the docs points in your review. The sidecar and discovery limits, build check, and capacity warning are documented. I also renamed the section to cover images and video, updated its links, restored the overview’s reassurance that requests still run, and kept the caller-hash explanation in the canonical guide. I replaced the PR-as-version note with the required Dynamo capabilities; the PR tracks adding the minimum release when it’s known. I kept the cutoff tied to each block’s hashed tokens so the description also covers Eagle’s lookahead. Docs lint, Fern configuration/link checks, and all 39 docs regression tests pass. |

Remove the scalar pad rewrite without depending on PR #17126. Keep the existing Kimi guard and padding repair, test native identity preservation, and document the temporary multimodal KV-routing limitation. Validation: 213 unit/protocol tests passed against stock SGLang v0.5.23 at 297e54fd105e974cdf401e5b4d20253a22c16f90. Identity-preservation regression failed before rewrite removal and passed afterward. Docs lint and generated-table checks passed. Full pre-commit was run; pytest-marker-report failed under Python 3.10 because tomllib is unavailable. GPU inference and launch scripts were not rerun on this revision. Thanks, all my comments are addressed.
Reconcile the 0.5.23 bump with merged PR #17126. Keep its wide-token decoding and exclusion behavior, leave native SGLang padding unchanged, and document text-prefix routing. Replace the scalar-pad protocol test with the wide-pad exclusion-threshold contract. Rebase validation: 224 Python unit/protocol tests passed against stock SGLang v0.5.23 at 297e54fd105e974cdf401e5b4d20253a22c16f90. Docs lint and generated-table checks passed. Overview
SGLang builds containing sgl-project/sglang#43043 use four wide multimodal pad values that no longer match Dynamo's request-side routing tokens. Kimi K2.5/K3 also reject caller-provided image identities. This implements Stage 1 of DEP #17044: ordinary Kimi requests omit rejected hash overrides, wide-token event batches decode, and routing retains the text prefix before unsupported image/video blocks.
Image- and video-aware routing on the new format remains a separate change in #17082 with sgl-project/sglang#45737. The fallback applies to both URL passthrough and frontend decoding. SGLang continues to decide its own cache reuse.
Key Changes
Approximately 350 added production-code lines, excluding tests, documentation, and comments. No new dependencies or frontend preprocessing logic are introduced.
uses_wide_image_identitydisables overrides; other processors retain supportedmm_hashesforwarding but still require wide-token exclusion.Review
mm_exclusion.rsand its tests first, followed by_compat.py. Exclusion uses the same hash windows as conversion, including Eagle's overlap token. Omitted and explicit-false source flags retain the same listener; changing the effective flag resets its indexed state.Validation
The merge with main also preserves its partial-block filtering alongside multimodal exclusion. The latest local checks passed 73 wire-event tests, five focused Python compatibility tests, and 39 documentation regressions. Reinstating the old silent duplicate rejection fails the malformed-store regression. The exclusion tests were consolidated from 13 tests / 760 lines to seven tests / 523 lines, retaining decoder, real-index, relay, and eviction coverage.
The previous merge preserved main's KVCR linker support and this PR's wide-token capability across aggregated, prefill, and decode workers. The focused SGLang checks passed 98 tests: 97 in the suite and the metrics-fanout case separately with a shorter temporary path after the original path exceeded Unix's socket-name limit. An in-memory inversion of the capability flag failed all six linker descriptor cases.
The earlier code update passed 70 focused Python tests, 76 Rust wire/selection tests, and 126 Rust publisher tests. The publisher suite passed serially; an existing recovery test hit its one-second deadline in a parallel run and passed alone. Full hosted CI passed on code commit
c03cd62328(run 41122766185, attempt 2); that earlier run does not establish CI completion for the latest merge.GPU inference was not rerun. The HiCache combination is covered through source wiring and CPU normalization tests, not an end-to-end inventory deployment. Kimi preprocessed/EPD serving paths are not newly qualified. No throughput or latency benchmark is claimed.
Limits
AllBlocksCleared; evictions still apply. This may miss additional text-prefix hits. A warning identifies each worker/rank entering this fallback; no exclusion counters are exported.u32, but does not provide full wide-format media exclusion or media-aware routing.Issues and Ongoing Work
