fix: Intel Mac installs and broken Codex versions fail with clear next steps - #27281
curl -fsSL t3.codes/install.sh | sh on an Intel Mac downloaded the checksums, then died on curl: (56) ... 404, because releases ship no darwin-x64 CLI archive. The installer now stops before downloading and points to the desktop app and the Intel Mac section of the install docs. It also checks that the archive is listed in SHA256SUMS before downloading it, so any other missing platform gets a clear message instead of a 404.
With a user-installed Codex older than the compatibility policy allows (0.144.3 here), turns failed with a protocol decode error. The Codex adapter now reads the version from the app-server initialize response when it opens a session and refuses versions the manifest marks broken, with the update target in the message. The failed session is discarded, so after updating Codex the next message in the same thread spawns the new binary without restarting T3. ProviderSetupError joins the curated failure messages so its text reaches the chat instead of "Failed to open codex provider session".
Verified: the installer with a faked Darwin x86_64 reproduced the 404 before and prints the new message after, and a real Linux x64 install still completes. In a dev server with Codex 0.144.3 configured, the screenshots above show main vs this branch. Swapping that path to Codex 0.166 and retrying in the same thread reached a real turn. New cases in CodexAdapterV2.test.ts and failure.test.ts fail on main.

Walkthrough
The Codex adapter now checks runtime versions against installation compatibility advisories and reports broken versions as setup errors. Curated failure handling preserves setup error messages. The installer rejects Intel Macs and checks for an archive checksum entry before downloading.
Changes: Codex compatibility checks
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Expose and wire Codex compatibility apps/server/src/provider/CodexInstallation.ts, apps/server/src/provider/Drivers/CodexDriver.ts
The installation service exposes its compatibility lookup. The Codex driver passes it to the adapter.
Check compatibility during initialization apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/CodexAdapterV2.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/CodexAdapterV2.test.ts
When compatibility checking is configured, the adapter checks the detected version during initialization. A broken advisory fails with ProviderSetupError. A replay test checks the Codex 0.144.3 failure and its message.
Preserve setup errors in failure messages packages/provider-core/src/server/failure.ts, packages/provider-core/src/server/failure.test.ts
Curated failure handling uses the string message from ProviderSetupError. The test covers this error alongside context-handoff errors.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — The change gives clear upgrade or installation alternatives for broken Codex versions and unsupported Intel Mac CLI installs. It reuses existing compatibility policy and preserves download verification, with no product-default changes.

Add a higher-level regression test for failed-open disposal.
This test only verifies the adapter rejection. CodexAdapterV2.openSession raises ProviderSetupError during initialization, before it creates a provider session. openReplaySession returns only after openSession succeeds. Therefore, this test cannot detect a failure to discard the session or a failed same-thread retry with an updated runtime.
Add the test at the layer that owns session reuse and disposal. The existing initialize-retry case retries initialization on an already-open session, and failure.test.ts only verifies failure-message extraction.

curl -fsSL t3.codes/install.sh | shon an Intel Mac downloaded the checksums, then died oncurl: (56) ... 404, because releases ship nodarwin-x64CLI archive. The installer now stops before downloading and points to the desktop app and the Intel Mac section of the install docs. It also checks that the archive is listed inSHA256SUMSbefore downloading it, so any other missing platform gets a clear message instead of a 404.With a user-installed Codex older than the compatibility policy allows (0.144.3 here), turns failed with a protocol decode error. The Codex adapter now reads the version from the app-server
initializeresponse when it opens a session and refuses versions the manifest marks broken, with the update target in the message. The failed session is discarded, so after updating Codex the next message in the same thread spawns the new binary without restarting T3.ProviderSetupErrorjoins the curated failure messages so its text reaches the chat instead of "Failed to open codex provider session".Verified: the installer with a faked
Darwin x86_64reproduced the 404 before and prints the new message after, and a real Linux x64 install still completes. In a dev server with Codex 0.144.3 configured, the screenshots above show main vs this branch. Swapping that path to Codex 0.166 and retrying in the same thread reached a real turn. New cases inCodexAdapterV2.test.tsandfailure.test.tsfail on main.Written by claude-opus-5-5 in Claude Code, running in T3 Code.
