Nothing blocking. The comments below are optional suggestions. There is no need to push a fix for them before merging.
Beyond the inline findings, I also checked the borrowed &'static [u8] keys in path_to_index (src/runtime/cli/test/ChangedFilesFilter.rs:212-230): the map's last read is the changed-file seeding at :265 and drop(path_to_index) at :274 runs before bundle.deinit_without_freeing_arena() at :312, so no key outlives the path bytes it borrows.
Extended reasoning...
The change rewires the per-source loop of the bun test --changed filter to join sources sharing a path via the reverse-import graph and adds a test matrix; it touches no auth, crypto, or untrusted-input parsing surface. The inline findings cover the selection-rule decision and the test gaps; the borrowed-key lifetime was verified safe from the drop ordering in the function.

The new push addresses both points from the earlier round: the walk now seeds every copy of a changed path and back-propagates only for test-file selection instead of joining all copies, and the text-first page case asserts the observed empty selection instead of test.failing. Beyond the inline findings, I also checked the drop(path_to_index) placement in src/runtime/cli/test/ChangedFilesFilter.rs (every lookup, including the test-file slot mapping, happens before it) and the LinkerContext refactor (same browser path-map lookup and the same panic on a missing page).
Extended reasoning...
The change touches the --changed reverse-import walk in src/runtime/cli/test/ChangedFilesFilter.rs, adds two Graph helpers in src/bundler/Graph.rs, and routes the existing LinkerContext HTML-import lookup through one of them; no security-sensitive surface is involved. Three inline findings remain open (the Text/File loader exclusion misses base64/dataurl, the exclusion lacks a deterministic test, and a pre-existing CommonJS shim gap), and the hunt stopped on its bug cap, so a human should weigh the selection-rule design rather than this run approving.

Problem
bun test --changedprints--changed: 1 changed file, but no test files are affectedand exits 0. A test reaches the changed file. The graph has an HTML import.filterkeeps one source per path (src/runtime/cli/test/ChangedFilesFilter.rs:225). The scan holds a file once per target.import page from "./page.html"points at a stand-in with no import records (src/bundler/bundle_v2.rs:7595).Fix
Graph::html_import_pagesgives the pair. The linker uses the same lookup.test/cli/test/test-changed.test.ts(18 new cases, 14 fail on main). 510 of 510 selection runs are exact (main: 60).Background
--changedscan bundles every test file without the link step.filterwalks import records backward from each changed file.Downsides
filtergrows by 2,000 bytes, the stripped binary by 4,096.Notes
How it was found
No GitHub issue reports this. It was found during a check of #45938. The same result is on 1.3.14, 1.4.0, 1.4.2, 1.4.3 and main.
Reproduction on main
--changed: 1 changed file, but no test files are affectedand exits 0. Some runs select onlya-direct.test.ts.Why a page edit must select the test that imports the page
server.ts, which hasimport page from "./page.html". The test serves the page withBun.serve({ routes: { "/": page } }). It fetches the script and asserts on its text.bun testfails (Expected to contain: "MARKER_ONE"). On mainbun test --changedselects nothing and exits 0.--changed --watchalready watches the page and its scripts, because the scan lists them. On main the edit restarts the run and the run selects nothing. What the scan holds for
import page from "./page.html"generate_server_html_module). The bundler lists each stand-in ingraph.html_imports.buntarget.process_html_import_files(src/bundler/LinkerContext.rs:730): it looks up the stand-in's path in the browser path map. The scan stops before the link step.with { type: "text" }import of that file to the stand-in. That needs the stand-in to be there first. The change
filteralready hashes every path forpath_to_index. It now looks the path up first. A hit means the file is already in the graph. The loop records the pair (first source, this source) and continues. A miss inserts the index.Graph::html_import_pageis the lookup from a stand-in to its page.process_html_import_filesnow calls it through the safeparse_graph()accessor, andGraph::html_import_pagesiterates the pairs forfilter. The join exists once.filterlooks at the importers of the stand-in. An importer with a page import among its records to the stand-in gets a reverse edge from the page. A page import is a record with the HTML loader or with a script loader. A CommonJS file that re-exports the page gives its importers a script loader. A record with another loader, such aswith { type: "text" },"file"or"dataurl", reads only the file.module_graph_files, the list that seeds the watcher, now holds each path once.&'static [u8]ofSource.path, stored withput_static_key_hashed.DirEntry::add_entryinsrc/resolver/fs.rsuses the same three calls. The map is dropped before the bundle is torn down.Designs that this PR had before
src/dep.tsandsrc/leaf.tsof the new table pin the difference.bun test --changed#29262 has the one statement of a maintainer on selection. A test reruns only when a file in its graph changed.Selection per edit
5 fixtures, 17 single-file edits, 30 runs each, release builds of main 5c6d4e2 and of this branch.
The two edits that main gets right are edits of the module that imports the page.
Four more checks compare the selection with what a test can load, over random projects. The projects have modules, stylesheets, assets, pages with a script, page scripts that import pages, server modules and tests. They also have text imports of modules and pages.
Each clause is pinned
Four builds with one clause changed, run against the new cases:
The reader case depends on which import the bundler resolves first. It runs the command again until the usual order happens, so it always meets the clause. The CommonJS case asserts a set that holds in both orders.
Cost without an HTML import
Fixture: one test file that imports 1,000 local modules, 1 changed module, 1,002 sources. The counts are for the part of
filterthat runs after the scan returns. A ptrace single-step counter on the main thread took them, 3 runs for each binary.filter: 8,239 to 10,239 bytes (nm -S). Release text: 107,661,972 to 107,664,276 bytes (size). Stripped binary: 107,808,480 to 107,812,576 bytes.bun builddoes the same lookup as before for each HTML import, now through the helper. Two bundler suites pass (below).Cost with an HTML import
Fullstack fixture: 1 page, 3 files that a test and the page script both import. Debug build, gdb breakpoint counts: 13 file sources, 4 repeated paths, 1 page edge.
module_graph_filesgoes from 13 to 9 entries.One shape that over-selects
with { type: "text" }or"file". The browser graph also holds that file as a page or as a module. The bundler binds the text import to that source. The walk then follows the text import like a module import.r.htmlhas a script that readsb.htmlas text. A second test importsb.htmlas a page. An edit of the script ofb.htmlruns the test ofr.htmltoo (20 of 20 runs).Still missed after this change, same as main

When two jobs select different sets, a test can be in no slice. On main a file that a test and a page both import can do that. After this change only the first two rows can.--changedyet. docs: document bun test --changed on the test runner page #43836 adds one, and these limits belong there.bun test --changedscan #45938: a barrel re-export that nothing uses. bun build --metafilealso keys by path. For a server build with an HTML import it writes a path twice underinputs. The fullstack fixture gets 8 entries for 6 files, on main and on this branch. That is another command with another output, so it is not changed here.Other open work on the same lines
bun test --changedscan #45938 (last commit), bundler: key modules by (path, loader) so one file under two import attributes is two modules #41834 and bundler: resolve imports that end in a ?query #42491 each start the walk from every source of a changed path. They do it with a second pass over all sources, in the loop that this PR changes. Each conflicts with this PR inChangedFilesFilter.rs.
