WalkthroughREPL parsing now avoids tree-shaking part splitting. REPL transforms persist input-declared bindings and keep generated bindings inside the wrapper. Import conversion and regression tests cover binding persistence, helper visibility, module reuse, and resource disposal. ChangesREPL Binding Persistence

The REPL transform hoists top-level declarations out of the wrapper function, so that they are properties of the global object and persist between inputs. It hoisted every declaration. That includes the ones the parser adds for its own use: the temporaries of a lowered class, the stack of a lowered `using`, and the bindings of the helper and JSX runtime imports. The parser prints the same names for every input, so a later input replaced the value that an earlier class still reads. A name now persists only if it is the module scope's member for that name. Every other declaration stays in the wrapper of its input. The module of a named import is kept in a temporary, because the name of its namespace symbol, `import_<module>`, is one an input can declare. A REPL input is one part, like an input with a top-level `using`. With tree shaking the parser moved a class above the statements before it and above its helper import, which runs as a statement in the wrapper.
The namespace arm of the import conversion did not look at the default name, so `d` was never declared. The arm now declares the default for every form and reads it from where the statement keeps the module. The test of an input that throws no longer depends on whether the vm shows a `var` that is declared and never assigned.

I re-reviewed the latest push (fab857f, c7d0fa6) and found no bugs; both points from my earlier inline comments are now addressed, and a human look is still worthwhile since this rewrites the replMode hoisting rule and the import conversion in the parser, and bun.d.ts has a code owner.
What was reviewed:
repl_persists/repl_binding_persistsagainst the module-scopemembersmap, link following for mergedvars, and the four newdebug_assert!sites: the only parser-synthesized star import (parse_entry.rs:1503) is gated on the bundler'sunwrap_commonjs_to_esm, so it cannot reach them.- The restructured import branch: default-only, default+named, default+star, star-only, named-only, and side-effect-only forms each still emit one
import()and bind every name; the named-import temp fromgenerate_temp_refreplaces the printableimport_<mod>symbol. - The
SLocalsplit: non-persisting decls keep their original kind inside the IIFE and statement order is preserved; the single-part gating in parse_entry.rs only applies whenrepl_modeis set. - Tests cover both
transformSyncandtransform,-eand interactivebun repl; the SIGINT terminal test at repl.test.ts:1132 sends the signal after the line's synchronousconsole.log, which is a few instructions before the handler is installed at repl.rs:1660 — a narrow window, not a correctness issue with the change.
Extended reasoning...
The change rewrites src/js_parser/repl_transforms.rs so only names the input declared at module scope are hoisted as var for REPL persistence, restructures the import-to-import() conversion to use a fresh temp ref and to bind a default alongside a namespace import, and disables tree-shaking parts under repl_mode in parse_entry.rs; it also updates the replMode JSDoc in bun.d.ts and adds tests in both the transpiler and REPL suites. No security-sensitive surface is touched. Approval was withheld because the diff is a non-trivial parser transform (about 377 changed lines in the transform alone) and packages/bun-types/bun.d.ts is covered by a CODEOWNERS entry, so a human reviewer is expected to look regardless; the bug hunt ended on a dry streak with no findings, and the two prior inline findings were fixed in c7d0fa6.
The added comments are one line each. The comment in repl.rs is as on main. The replMode JSDoc names `autoImportJSX` as the condition for the JSX import. The Ctrl+C test prints its marker from an immediate, which runs after the REPL installed its SIGINT handler.
