I reviewed this PR and didn't find any bugs. Because it changes how generated symbols are registered with both the runtime printer and the bundler's renamer — subtle enough that the PR itself has to explain the scope.generated vs Part.declared_symbols split — a maintainer familiar with the renamer should also take a look.
What was reviewed:
new_temp/capture_tempvs the replacednew_sym/generate_temp_ref: counter shared withgenerate_temp_refso suffixes don't collide;TempRefconstruction anddrain_capture_temp_declsinteraction unchanged.declare_generated_binding: mirrors the exact walk-to-hoisting-scope +generated/declared_symbolssequence removed fromLowerUsingDeclarationsContext::finalize; theusingrefactor is behavior-preserving (per-append growth replaces the batchedensure_unused_capacity).accessor_storage_namenow gates onis_identifieras well asis_utf8, soaccessor "x y"no longer emitsvar _x y.- Tests follow harness conventions (stderr/stdout before exitCode, existing files, real issue numbers) and cover both the no-renamer and bundled/minified paths.
Extended reasoning...
Overview
This PR fixes a miscompile in the standard (ES) decorator lowering where every decorated class in a scope shared the same var _init/_dec/WeakMap-storage temporaries, causing later classes to overwrite earlier classes' initializer state. The fix replaces the fixed-name new_sym helper with new_temp (appends a per-file $N counter on the no-renamer path, and registers the symbol via a new shared declare_generated_binding helper so the bundler's chunk renamer sees it) and capture_temp (for receiver captures declared later). It also fixes accessor "x y" producing an invalid var _x y, refactors the using lowering to use the same registration helper, and bumps the transpiler cache version. 11 new tests across es-decorators.test.ts and bundler_edgecase.test.ts cover the reported issues and adjacent shapes.
Security risks
None. This is a compiler-output correctness fix with no security-sensitive surface — no auth, crypto, filesystem, network, or untrusted-length arithmetic. The only user-controlled input reaching new code is an accessor's string key, which is now more strictly validated (is_identifier gate) before being used as a variable name in generated output.
Level of scrutiny
Medium-high. Transpiler lowering correctness is critical — a wrong symbol registration silently miscompiles user code — and the renamer interaction is genuinely subtle: the runtime path prints original_name verbatim, the bundler's NumberRenamer reads nested scopes from scope.generated, and the chunk renamer reads top-level names from Part.declared_symbols. capture_temp now registers _obj in the enclosing hoisting scope's generated/declared_symbols even though the var _obj is emitted inside a nested method body; this is over-conservative rather than wrong (the bundler test proves it dedupes against a user _obj), but it's the kind of layering choice a maintainer who owns the renamer should confirm. The using refactor is a drive-by touching a separate lowering.
Other factors
The bug hunt ran to dry_streak with no findings and no ruled-out candidates. Test coverage is thorough and follows repo conventions: added to existing module test files, real issue numbers (#40761, #29837), stderr/stdout asserted before exitCode, both runDecorator (no-renamer) and itBundled (renamer, minified, cross-file) paths exercised. No CODEOWNERS entry covers the changed paths. The .expect("oom") on declared_symbols.append matches the pre-existing convention at the same site. The PR description is unusually detailed about mechanism and out-of-scope items (#38933/#38904 loop-body re-evaluation, the react-refresh and HMR sites intentionally left alone), which raises confidence but doesn't substitute for a maintainer sign-off on a parser change of this size.

Could we get some priority on this one please? 😄 |
Lowering a class with standard decorators (or a bare `accessor`) declares `var _init`, `var _dec` and a WeakMap or WeakSet per accessor and `#private` next to the class. Every class used the same names. `bun run` has no symbol renamer and prints those names as they are, so two classes in one scope shared the variables: a constructor that ran after a later class was evaluated read that class's initializers, a second `accessor x` replaced the first one's storage, and a user `const _init` was a SyntaxError. `bun build` has a renamer, but it names a file's top level from `Part::declared_symbols`, where the temporaries never were, and block-scoped class expressions registered their hoisted `var`s in the block. `P::generate_temp_var` now creates these symbols. Without a renamer the name carries a per-file counter (`_init$1`). With one the symbol is registered in the function or module scope that receives the `var`, and in `declared_symbols`. The `using` lowering registers its temporaries through the same helper instead of its own copy. `accessor "x y"` no longer declares `var _x y`. The runtime transpiler cache version is bumped because cached output has the shared names. Fixes #40761 Fixes #28010 Fixes #28316 Fixes #29837

What was wrong
Lowering a class with standard decorators (or a bare
accessor) declaresvar _init,var _dec, and one WeakMap/WeakSet per accessor and#privatemember next to the class. Every class used the same names.bun rundoes not run the symbol renamer (on purpose, for speed) and prints those names as they are. Two classes in one scope shared onevar _init, so a constructor that ran after a later class was evaluated read that class's initializers:The same sharing made
class B extends A { accessor name }throwCannot add the same private member more than once, made two classes withaccessor xthrowCannot read from private field, letaccessor xand#xcollide inside a single class, and turned a user'sconst _initnext to a decorated class into a SyntaxError.bun buildhas a renamer, but it names a file's top level fromPart::declared_symbols, and the temporaries were only inScope::generated. Module-level classes collided inside one file and across files once the linker put them in one scope. Class expressions inside blocks registered their (function-hoisted)vars in the block scope, so sibling blocks got the same name, minified or not.The fix
P::generate_temp_var(name)insrc/js_parser/p.rscreates every temporary the lowering declares:temp_ref_countto the name (_init$1,_dec$2), the same countergenerate_temp_refuses for__bun_temp_ref_N$. This is the line that fixesbun run.generatedof the function/module scope that receives thevar, and indeclared_symbols(declare_temp_var). This is what fixesbun build, which then prints_init,_init2like esbuild. A class in a parameter default has itsvars emitted outside the function, so registration skips theFunctionArgsscope. In
lower_decorators.rseverynew_sym(Kind::Other, …)for a temporary becomesgenerate_temp_var(…). Because names are unique by construction, the per-class_dec2/_computedKey2/_accessor_storage0counters andbump_nameare deleted.new_symremains for the three symbols whose printed name is observable or fixed: the class name inferred from context, the setter parameterv, andarguments. Also in this PR, all in the touched code:

It now callsdeclare_temp_var.generate_temp_refpushed every ref ontotemp_refs_to_declare. The only reader was the_objreceiver temporary of this lowering, which now pushes its own ref, so that push is deleted.accessor "x y"declaredvar _x y. The key is used for the storage name only when it is an identifier._dec/_computedKeytwice in itsvarstatement.RuntimeTranspilerCacheversion 30 → 31: cached output has the shared names.Tests
