fix(test): drain ACL work and close history before Windows fixture removal - #6797
Conversation
📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe pull request adds tracking for Windows ACL hardening work and coordinates asynchronous fixture cleanup. It adds a shared-memory barrier for a storage-policy race test, updates related tests and documentation, and records plans for the L7 CI/infra lane and follow-on work. Docs-only roadmap for the L7 lane: Windows test-teardown ownership, test sandbox caching, catalog/runtime and CI work-phases, and maintainer reports.
…moval Retain removal ownership across normal asynchronous ACL work, command gaps, and deadline survivors. Synchronize policy fixtures at the initial policy load. Drain fixture producers and both homes' config flights, close request history, then drain ACL work before removal. Preserve failed roots and restore environment in finally. Extract management-auth fixtures, await WebSocket closure, and carry retry-aware cleanup for the remaining audited fixtures. Capture lexical and canonical removal identities before work starts and retain them through settlement, including deadline survivors and changed aliases. The membership oracle in tests/test-layout-tooling.test.ts rejects an explicit layout entry that disagrees with its regex seed. The seed resolves fixture-teardown-helper.test.ts to ci-workflows, beside test-sandbox-cleanup.test.ts; move it there and update both layout tables and the docs that cite its path.
…cker startup Make Anthropic instance fixture disposal asynchronous and await producer, config hardening, history, and ACL teardown before removing its isolated home. Preserve state clears, protected-tree validation, environment restoration, and idempotent disposal. Await every fixture disposer call in the affected tests. Give the two real picker startup/disable tests watchdogMs(10_000) budgets. Their measured Windows lifecycle-lock ACL and CA inspection costs reach 4.9 s and 8.0-8.4 s, exceeding or approaching the implicit five-second budget. Document the Anthropic fixture's use of the shared teardown helper. Validation: 275 focused tests passed across 12 files; typecheck, privacy scan, structure check, changed-file size audit, and diff whitespace check passed. The full suite was not run, as scoped. Native Windows validation remains for CI.

Correct the closeRequestHistoryIndex() call-site statement.
The parenthetical is incorrect. Multiple fixture helpers call closeRequestHistoryIndex(), so tests/routing/policy-execution.test.ts:23 is not the only call site.

Correct the Rust workflow statement.
ordinary CI can invoke the Rust crate through the remote-helper job in .github/workflows/ci.yml. The job runs when native/remote-workspace-helper/** changes and executes cargo clippy and cargo test against the crate. Update D2 so it does not state that only #6723’s workflow invokes the crate.

Summary
Windows CI shards keep failing in test teardown with
EPERM/EBUSYwhile removing a fixture's temp root, after the test itself has passed. Three recent cases:server-management-auth(#6772's windows 8/9, run 37833647677),claude-picker-startup(dev windows 3/9, run 37735258668), andoauth-login-cli-live-update(dev windows 9/9, run 37636581013). The logs prove the removal failed; they do not name the native handle owner. Reading currentdevfinds three concrete ownership gaps, and this PR closes all three:src/lib/windows-secret-acl.ts).flushWindowsSecretAclReapsBeforeRemovalonly saw icacls runners that had outlived their outer deadline. A normal in-flight runner, and the gaps between the successive commands of one harden, were invisible, so a fixture could delete a directory icacls still had open. Async hardening now registers its whole flight (principal lookup, every ACL command, retries, diagnostics) before yielding, and the barrier waits for it. Matching covers the path as registered, its canonical identity captured at registration, and the alias's current destination, so deleting or retargeting a symlink/junction mid-flight cannot hide running work; unreadable identity is treated as inside. Caller deadlines, required-secret fail-closed behavior, timeout memos, error classification and icacls arguments are unchanged.src/routing/history/indexer.ts). The process-wide WAL index stays open after server stop, and the management-auth and OAuth fixtures never closed it.Two follow-ups in the same family, found while this PR was in CI:
tests/helpers/anthropic-instance-fixture.ts, added with feat(anthropic): add anthropic2, an independent Anthropic account pool with a green Pool 2 mark #6743). Its synchronousdispose()closed the history index, then made onermSyncattempt withmaxRetries: 0and no ACL drain. fix(runtime): keep catalog probes async and release aborted translator budgets #6796's windows 2/9 hitEBUSYthere.dispose()is now async and uses the shared teardown helper; all 12 call sites await it.disablehardens the lifecycle-lock runtime directory with threeicaclscalls (about 0.5-0.65 s each), and startup runs five PowerShell CA ACL inspections (about 140 ms each). The two tests took 4.9 s and 8.0-8.4 s, with no stall or leaked process. Both now use the repository'swatchdogMs(10_000)budget, with the measured cost in a comment. Unchangeddevtimed out one of them in every native round.fixture-teardown-helper.test.tslives intests/ci-workflows/, where its layout seed resolves it; the membership oracle rejects a mapping that disagrees with the seed.Fixtures now share
tests/helpers/fixture-teardown.ts. It settles producers, then each root's config-hardening flight, then closes the history index, then drains each root's ACL work. A root is removed only if its own steps succeeded. Environment and test seams are restored infinally, and the first failure is rethrown. The management-auth and OAuth fixtures use it, andIsolatedCodexHomegainsrestoreEnvironment()/removeAfterDrain()so a failed drain never deletes the Codex home.Also carried: #6723's storage policy-load test barrier and drain-then-retry teardown in five Claude test files; #6783's extraction of the management-auth fixture helpers (keeps
server-management-auth.test.tsat 1918 lines, under the 2000 threshold, with #6723's close-awaiting WebSocket helper) and retry-aware cleanup in eight more files. The picker-startupEBUSYitself was already fixed on dev by #6748.The first commit adds this lane's roadmap under
devlog/_plan/261009_L7-ci-infra/(no code).Refs #6723, #6783 (partial carries; their remaining parts are separate PRs).
Verification
tests/windows/windows-secret-acl-removal-flight.test.ts(normal flight, command gap, deadline survivor, containment, alias in both directions, alias deleted/retargeted before and after the child opens its target, deleted-target ancestry, unreadable identity, required-failure preservation, settlement). On the unchanged ACL source the normal-flight case fails (guard false before the belt), and each later alias case failed on the preceding revision before its fix.tests/lib/fixture-teardown-helper.test.ts(12 cases: held flight, order, history first, per-root failure gating, producer/history failure, removal failure, restore infinally, default deps). A naive remove-before-drain control fails 9 of them.bun run typecheck,privacy:scan,structure:check,git diff --check: pass.devran three rounds with noEPERM/EBUSY, but timed out oneclaude-picker-startupcase ("default, off, and disabled integration…", ~7.8 s vs 5 s) every round and a second ("gateway startup retains controller…") once. Follow-up 5 above addresses that timeout. On this PR's final tree, three rounds of the same files plus the two new regression files: 271 pass / 1 fail each, noEPERM/EBUSY; the one failure is that same picker-startup timeout, measured and addressed by follow-up 5 (added after these rounds). With follow-ups 4-5 included (final tree), two more native rounds over the same files plus three Anthropic fixture suites: 324 pass / 0 fail each. Because unchanged dev also showed no EPERM/EBUSY on this host, these runs confirm the change is safe natively but cannot prove the fix; the hosted Windows shards, where the race appeared, are the deciding evidence.structure/ops/service-and-sidecars.md).src/lib/windows-*, so hosted CI runs all nine Windows shards; those results are the deciding evidence.Checklist
