Summary

Four existing fixtures failed on a busy Windows host because they inherited host state or tested native enumeration with a short latency budget. This patch makes their inputs explicit while keeping the runtime behavior unchanged:

  • Harden the synthetic local-CA directory before reserving a predecessor temporary name, as the real protected directory requires.
  • Save, clear and restore both inherited debug environment variables, so the default-silent case actually starts with debugging off.
  • Check warnings for the fixture's own untrusted project path; warnings from ancestors are independent. Then trust the same project and require its expected warning as a positive control.
  • Run the native CIM ownership test through the trusted executable, generated owner/candidate checks and parser, limiting the real CIM query to the fixture PID. At most one successful-but-empty scan is retried under a shared 55-second monotonic budget; errors propagate. The product's 8-second limit and full inventory behavior are unchanged. Native full-host timing found owner queries alone could take 28 seconds, and a later attempt exceeded 45 seconds. The owned-PID query keeps host job count out of this correctness test. The synthetic child is killed in finally.

These failures were found during the Windows investigation in #6671. The patch changes existing test setup, expectations and execution bounds.

Verification

Baseline four-file verification at f2024912b8c3613f5a10f35e3810f9c389ebe383, based on dev 62873e3717df197d1161bb85db5ed02638228759, with Bun 1.4.0 as the pinned test runner:

  • CI=true bun scripts/test.ts --parallel=1 --timeout=60000 tests/claude-integration/claude-intercept-local-ca-files.test.ts tests/codex-integration/codex-affinity-debug.test.ts tests/codex-integration/codex-app-server-processes.test.ts tests/codex-integration/project-config-warnings.test.ts: 108 passed, 17 existing OS-dependent skips, 0 failed, 384 assertions.
  • bun run typecheck, bun run structure:check, bun run privacy:scan, bun scripts/file-size-ratchet.ts, git diff --check: passed.
  • Separate Gemini 3.1 Pro review of the four-file delta, including executable trust, ACL and environment restoration: Must defects 0 / Should defects 0. Whole-PR approval or hosted-CI success is not implied.
  • Full-suite scope exception: earlier single-process Windows validation exceeded its 900-second outer limit, and subsequent partitioned execution encountered disk exhaustion. The saved run plus targeted recovery accounted for all 2,156 test files on the older 39663ff31 baseline and resolved its 41 distinct failed case keys. This is not a clean unsharded run or a full-suite result on the new base. The new base has 50 upstream commits; this PR changes only these four test fixtures, all covered above. Current-head hosted CI remains required before merge.

Final head c9cb884bf720dc43807225f0f43715a40a913864 additionally addresses CodeRabbit's native-enumeration comment: the owned-PID scan passed 1 test / 6 assertions in 1.27 seconds; typecheck, privacy scan and diff checks passed. Separate delta/security review: Must 0 / Should 0. Earlier passing coverage of the other three unchanged fixtures is retained. Current-head hosted CI and maintainer review are pending.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed. (No runtime or user-facing behavior change.)
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults.

Review readiness checklist

This PR stays in draft until every box below is ticked. Tick all four boxes once the requirements are met:

  • Required local validation passed; commands, results, and any full-suite exception are documented.

  • I pushed my PR to a recent dev commit (at most 10 behind; a maintainer may still ask for the exact tip before merge).

  • I resolved all correct Codex and CodeRabbit findings.

  • My PR is ready for review.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Expanded coverage of local certificate directory permissions and ensured debug settings are isolated between tests, preventing one test’s environment from affecting another.
    • Improved the Windows process-check test’s reliability with more targeted process detection, clearer failure reporting, retry handling, and a longer timeout.
    • Added checks that project configuration warnings vary appropriately with the project’s trust level.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The pull request updates four integration tests. The changes cover local CA directory setup, debug environment isolation, Windows process enumeration, and project-config warning assertions.

Changes

Claude local CA test

Layer / File(s) Summary
Harden the CA directory
tests/claude-integration/claude-intercept-local-ca-files.test.ts
The predecessor-temp-name test calls hardenSecretDir with required: true before testing ensureLocalInterceptCa.

Codex debug environment test

Layer / File(s) Summary
Isolate debug environment
tests/codex-integration/codex-affinity-debug.test.ts
The test clears OCX_DEBUG and OCX_DEBUG_FRAMES before each test. It restores their original values afterward or deletes them if they were initially unset.

Codex app-server process test

Layer / File(s) Summary
Run the Windows process probe
tests/codex-integration/codex-app-server-processes.test.ts
The test resolves PowerShell through the trusted-executable resolver and filters process enumeration to the probe PID. It uses a shared 55-second deadline, caps each call at 45 seconds, and retries once if a successful scan misses the process. Lookup errors fail the test. The probe sleeps for 90 seconds, and the test timeout increases to 60 seconds.

Codex project-config warning test

Layer / File(s) Summary
Check warnings by trust level
tests/codex-integration/project-config-warnings.test.ts
The test asserts that the project config has no warnings while untrusted, then produces a model_providers_table warning after global trust changes to trusted.

The positive control added for the untrusted-project case wrote the trust key with a hard-coded Windows separator, so on Linux and macOS the trusted project never matched and the expected warning was absent (Cross-platform CI run 38007605487, test 1/4). A TOML literal string keeps the platform path verbatim, as the neighbouring uncached-collection test already does.
