The legacy sidebar always shows status labels beside its colored dots, which uses horizontal space even when the color alone is enough.
This adds a LastCode Appearance preference that defaults off and, when enabled, renders legacy thread statuses as accessible dot-only indicators while keeping the full status in the tooltip. It also documents the preference and covers its persisted contract and settings-search entry.
Visual QA was deferred by the configured machine interaction policy; focused tests, targeted typechecks/lint, and the required quick local CI passed.
Implemented with GPT-5.6-Sol through the Codex harness.
