Follow-up to #8875, which merged before fixes for two of its automated review comments landed. Both fixes touch the experimental deterministic context-parallel KDA training package. Kernel sources are unchanged, and outputs and gradients are bitwise identical to main.

  • sm_100a CUDA floor: Kernels using the 256-bit st.global.v8.b32 store need PTX ISA 8.8, but CUDA 12.8 emits 8.7, so ptxas rejects them. The six affected sm_100a entries (four in build.json, two test-only in build.test.json) now declare min_cuda "12.9". A new build test enforces this floor.
  • Walk-form rules: _walk_form_of now passes arch= only to per-architecture rules (mappings in WALK_FORM_RULES). A custom KernelBackend(programs=...) provider whose walk_form takes only knob no longer raises TypeError.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved compatibility for walk-form providers using string-based rules; architecture detection is now used only for architecture-specific rules.
  • Compatibility
    • Certain sm_100a builds now require CUDA 12.9 or later. Other architecture requirements are unchanged.

…r-architecture rule alone

_walk_form_of passed arch= to the provider's walk_form for every walk program
whenever its jit exposed device_arch, so a provider whose walk_form takes
(program, chains, num_heads, sm_count, *, knob) raised a TypeError on its
first uncached walk. It now passes arch= only when WALK_FORM_RULES[name] is a
mapping (the fused forward walk); the "fit" and "split" rules never take it,
so no shipped form changes. A host test covers an old-signature provider and
the per-architecture rule.
…s need CUDA 12.9

The 256-bit st.global.v8.b32 is PTX ISA 8.8 (CUDA 12.9); nvcc 12.8 emits
PTX ISA 8.7, whose ptxas refuses it. The sm_100a entries of the fused forward
walk (051de8b4, 5e6f3ba0), the chunk output (c811c1b5) and the output
backward (f227dd21) in build.json, and of the full-width tape walks (9cfe05bc,
3808ea4d) in build.test.json, now state min_cuda 12.9; the sm_103a and sm_107a
floors (12.9, 13.4) already cover them. No unit changes. A build test checks
that every entry whose units use a PTX ISA 8.8 instruction states 12.9 or
newer.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

The change raises CUDA minimum versions for selected sm_100a builds from 12.8 to 12.9. It also makes walk-form architecture lookup conditional on whether a rule uses per-architecture configuration.

Changes: sm_100a CUDA minimums

Layer / File(s) Summary
Manifest minimums and PTX validation
flashinfer/experimental/cake_kda_det_train_kcp/build.json, flashinfer/experimental/cake_kda_det_train_kcp/build.test.json, tests/experimental/test_cake_kda_det_train_kcp_build.py
Six sm_100a manifest entries now require CUDA 12.9. A test detects specified PTX instructions in manifest sources and checks that matching entries require CUDA 12.9 or later.

Walk-form architecture lookup

Layer / File(s) Summary
Conditional architecture lookup
flashinfer/experimental/cake_kda_det_train_kcp/cake_kcp.py, tests/experimental/test_cake_kda_det_train_kcp.py
_walk_form_of passes architecture lookup only for mapping-based rules. Tests check mapping and string rules, including a provider whose walk_form does not accept an arch parameter.

LGTM. One nit: the diff doesn't show Mapping being imported in cake_kcp.py, so make sure it's imported there. Otherwise _walk_form_of raises NameError.

…entries (#8911)

Follow-up to #8896,
which fixed the sm_100a CUDA floor in the deterministic context-parallel
KDA training package. This PR makes the same fix in the experimental
non-deterministic package, `flashinfer/experimental/cake_kda_train_kcp`.
Only `min_cuda` values change. Kernel sources and the sm_103a / sm_107a
floors (12.9 / 13.4) are unchanged, so outputs and gradients are bitwise
identical to main.

- **sm_100a CUDA floor:** Kernels using the 256-bit `st.global.v8.b32`
store need PTX ISA 8.8. CUDA 12.8 emits 8.7, so ptxas rejects them. Four
sm_100a entries change `min_cuda` from "12.8" to "12.9", which matches
their deterministic twins. Two are in `build.json` (forward output stage
and output backward). The other two are test-only full-width tape walks
in `build.test.json`. No other entry's units use a PTX ISA 8.8
instruction. The build test
`test_an_entry_whose_units_use_ptx_isa_8_8_needs_cuda_12_9` from #8896
now also covers this package. It fails on main's manifests and passes
with this change.
- **Walk-form rules:** This package doesn't need the provider fix from
#8896. All of its `WALK_FORM_RULES` are strings, so `_walk_form_of`
never passes `arch=` to the rule. A provider whose `walk_form` takes
only `knob` already works.

## Summary by CodeRabbit

* **Compatibility**
* Two library variants for `sm_100a` now require CUDA 12.9 or newer;
CUDA 12.8 no longer meets their declared minimum.
* The CUDA minimums for `sm_103a` and `sm_107a` remain unchanged. These
requirements apply to the affected library variants in both shipped and
test build manifests.
