build(vllm): bump core to v0.33.0 and Omni to v0.33.0rc1 - #17862
Move the CUDA runtime image and the ai-dynamo[vllm] extra to vLLM 0.33.0. The GitHub release is published under the tag v0.33.0rc3; the v0.33.0 tag points to the same commit, 4ba787ec. Without this PR's frontend fix, --chat-processor vllm exits at startup on 0.33. Without its KV-events default, workers that publish KV events would send 0.33's EAGLE/MTP lookahead block hashes, which Dynamo's KV indexers do not accept. It also folds in #17866: the vLLM sidecar now publishes structural tags by default on vLLM 0.33 and later.
vLLM-Omni 0.32 cannot run on core 0.33: it imports a vLLM module that 0.33 removed, and with that fixed its engine still fails on the first request. The CUDA image therefore moves to vLLM-Omni 0.33.0rc1, which Omni released from the merge of vllm-omni#9648, the PR that aligns Omni with core 0.33.

Key Changes
56 non-comment, nonblank production lines added: 21 for the core bump, 20 for speculators-checkpoint detection, 12 for the folded-in vLLM sidecar change, and 3 for the Omni pin.
frontend/main.py: import FrontendArgs from vllm.entrypoints.common.cli_args, where vllm#62390 moved it, and fall back to the old module for the 0.32 CPU and XPU images.
vllm/args.py: workers that publish KV events default disable_lookahead_block_hashes to true. vLLM 0.33 turns lookahead hashes on for EAGLE/MTP when prefix caching is on and no KV connector is set (vllm#61589). Those hashes also cover tokens after each block, so one block can be published under two hashes. This also covers a model given as a speculators-format checkpoint: vLLM derives its EAGLE/MTP config inside create_engine_config, so Dynamo asks vLLM's own maybe_override_with_speculators first. An explicit user setting still wins. The cost is that these workers keep 0.32's trailing-block drop instead of 0.33's lookahead prefix-cache reuse. speculative-decoding-with-vllm.md documents the default and that turning it off on these workers is not supported.
container/context.yaml: the CUDA image uses vllm/vllm-openai:v0.33.0. vLLM 0.33 publishes no separate -ubuntu2404 tag; its default image is Ubuntu 24.04. pyproject.toml and the release tables move to 0.33.0.
context.yaml: the CUDA image installs Omni v0.33.0rc1 from PyPI through the existing installer, and pins Transformers 5.19.0 and tokenizers 0.23.3, because Omni 0.33.0rc1 caps Transformers below 5.20. CPU and XPU keep Omni 0.32.0rc1.
0.33.0 is the first release whose gRPC server compiles these tags with xgrammar (vllm#61892). Older servers send them to guidance, which rejects them, so the default stays off there; --dyn-structural-tag still overrides it either way.
compiles_structural_tags parses ServerInfo.engine_version with pep440_rs, the Rust port of Python's packaging.version, and compares only its release segment, because PEP 440 orders nightlies such as 0.33.0rc1.dev649+gc3fd4ff44 before 0.33.0. It was already built into the sidecar through dynamo-llm; it is now a direct dependency, and the workspace and Python-bindings Cargo.lock files each gain one line.
Also in this PR:
0.33.0 joins the embedding worker's verified versions; the launch interface it unpacks is unchanged.
Contract tests cover BlockStored.lookahead_token_ids, EngineCoreOutput.error (vllm#51488), and the prompt-embeds width check, which now reads word_embed_proj_dim first. With Omni loaded, the struct contract test also expects the two fields Omni 0.33 appends to EngineCoreOutput, stage_payload and stage_work; no Dynamo code reads them.
The pydantic 2.13.5 pin is still required, because the 0.33 image bundles 2.14.2. The image already satisfies the other requirements.vllm.txt floors and ships NIXL 1.5.0, which the 0.33 NIXL connector requires.
0.33.0 fixes LoRA loading through the vLLM sidecar. On 0.32.0, vllm-rs still sends the LoRARequest field that vllm#60024 removed, so the engine rejects every adapter load; vllm#63295 drops the field in 0.33.0.
Validation
Local runs on one RTX 6000 Ada. The table used base e421c62657 and a CUDA amd64 image built from this branch with the Omni install step removed. The bullets below also cover a second image built from the full Dockerfile at bb4c734873 plus the Omni commit 448b2521, that is, this branch without the folded-in sidecar change.
Case
vLLM 0.33 without this PR
With this PR
--chat-processor vllm frontend
Exits at startup because the old cli_args module is gone
disaggregated_same_gpu_chat_processor, disaggregated_same_gpu_chat_processor_kv_router, and the 8 test_vllm_prepost_integration.py cases pass
KV-event worker with an EAGLE3 speculative config
Lookahead hashes on
test_kv_event_publisher_keeps_legacy_block_hashes passes; it fails with the fix removed
Contract and prompt-embeds tests
BlockStored, EngineCoreOutput, and 13 prompt-embeds cases fail
Pass, including offline without a GPU
Serve tests:aggregated, aggregated_logprobs, aggregated_lmcache, disaggregated_same_gpu (NIXL), guided_decoding, embedding_agg, and mm_agg_qwen3-vl-2b pass. On the second image, with Omni installed and Transformers 5.19.0, they pass again, together with aggregated_spec_decoding, both chat-processor cases, and the 8 pre/post cases.
Unit suites: on the second image, the vLLM and frontend unit suites, Omni's included, pass 3,296 tests. The one failure was the struct contract test's Omni fields; after this PR's update it passes both with Omni loaded first and alone. Omni again provides the scipy and imageio that 7 realtime and video cases need.
Omni 0.33.0rc1: Omni's requirement files are identical at fe886bbb and v0.33.0rc1. On vllm/vllm-openai:v0.33.0 with the Transformers pin, this branch's Omni installer installs 0.33.0rc1 from PyPI and its entrypoints import; uv pip check reports only the two conflicts that the upstream image already has. The Omni code differs from fe886bbb, so the next bullet's serve results are for that commit; CI reruns Dynamo's Omni jobs on 0.33.0rc1.
Omni at fe886bbb: with Omni 0.33.0.dev0+gfe886bbb… installed by the image build, Dynamo's Omni unit tests run without skipping and pass, and the omni_audio (text-to-speech) and omni_t2v (Wan2.1 1.3B text-to-video) serve tests pass. With Omni 0.32.0rc1 and a Transformers 5.19.0 pin instead, the Omni serve tests fail: first on the removed vllm.entrypoints.launchers.cli_args, then, with that import patched, because OmniAsyncOutput lacks vLLM 0.33's get_kv_connector_output.
CUDA base layers: the first five layers of vllm/vllm-openai:v0.33.0 match the recorded nvidia/cuda baseline (sha256:2ab6381d) on amd64 and arm64.
CPU and XPU: their rendered Dockerfiles are identical to main.
vLLM sidecar structural tags (from fix(sidecar): publish structural tags from the vLLM sidecar on vLLM 0.33+ #17866):structural_tags_default_on_from_vllm_0_33 passes and fails if the default gates on vllm-proto 0.6; it also checks that --dyn-structural-tag false turns the default off on 0.33, and that the nightly 0.33.0rc1.dev649+gc3fd4ff44 gets the default, a case that fails without the release-segment comparison; the sidecar unit and testkit suites pass (487 passed, 4 ignored). With Qwen/Qwen3-0.6B and a debug build of the same sidecar code, 0.33.0 publishes the tag, every tool-call request returns 200, and a truncated forced call ends as get_weather({}), as in-process. 0.32.0 publishes no tag and still returns 200. With the tag forced on, 0.32.0 returns 500 for every request that offers tools, which is why the default checks the version. fix(sidecar): publish structural tags from the vLLM sidecar on vLLM 0.33+ #17866 has the full table.
LoRA through the vLLM sidecar: not run locally. GLAMR's automated run on one A100 (comment) used this branch's sidecar and the unchanged lib/sidecar/vllm/launch/agg_lora.sh with codelion/Qwen3-0.6B-accuracy-recovery-lora. On 0.32.0 the adapter load returns 500 with Expected `bool`, got `null` - at `$[4]` ; on 0.33.0 load, list, chat, and unload succeed.
Not run: a local image build or serve tests with Omni 0.33.0rc1; Omni image generation, image-to-video and Cosmos serving; multi-GPU tests, including 2-GPU GLM-Image; CPU and XPU image builds; the arm64 build; and an image that contains the folded-in sidecar change.
Known Issues
LMCache native ops on CUDA. The upstream vllm/vllm-openai:v0.33.0 image ships LMCache 0.5.6 built for torch 2.13. Under its torch 2.14, lmcache.cuda_ops fails to import (undefined symbol c10_cuda_check_implementation). LMCache 0.5.7rc3 fails the same way. LMCache falls back to its torch implementation and aggregated_lmcache passes; the performance effect is not measured. This is an upstream packaging issue, and this PR does not change LMCache.
Transformers 5.19.0 on CUDA. Omni 0.33.0rc1 caps Transformers below 5.20, so the CUDA image replaces the upstream image's 5.20.2 with 5.19.0, which vLLM 0.33 accepts (>=5.16.1,<5.21). vLLM 0.33's Transformers-backend MTP draft model requires 5.20.0, so it is unavailable in this image.
cuDNN 9.24 and Omni image attention. vllm-omni#9648 reports that with cuDNN 9.24, which torch 2.14 declares and this image inherits (9.24.0.43), Qwen-Image 2.1 fails its pixel check under the CUDNN_ATTN backend. Omni's own images preload cuDNN 9.25.1 instead. This PR does not change cuDNN, and the effect on Dynamo's Omni image paths is not tested.
Issues and Ongoing Work
vLLM-Omni release.vllm-omni#9648 merged on November 4, 2026, at 12:41 AM PST, and Omni published v0.33.0rc1 on GitHub and PyPI by 12:54 AM PST. As of November 4, 2026, 9:25 AM PST, Omni has not published a final 0.33.0. The CPU and XPU images on main already pin Omni release candidate 0.32.0rc1.
Added support for vLLM 0.33.0, including structural-tag support enabled by default for vLLM sidecars running version 0.33.0 or later. Older versions remain disabled by default and can be explicitly opted in.
Bug Fixes
Improved compatibility between speculative decoding and KV-aware routing. Workers publishing KV events now use block hashes compatible with the router; lookahead hashes no longer provide additional prefix-cache reuse in this configuration.
Documentation
Updated compatibility, configuration, and speculative-decoding guidance for vLLM 0.33.0 and KV-aware routing.
Move the CUDA runtime image and the ai-dynamo[vllm] extra to vLLM 0.33.0;
CPU and XPU keep 0.32.0. vLLM-Omni stays at 0.32.0rc1 until a release
compatible with core 0.33 is published.
- Import FrontendArgs from its 0.33 module, keeping the 0.32 fallback.
- Keep legacy KV block hashes for workers that publish KV events; 0.33
enables EAGLE/MTP lookahead hashes by default.
- Update contract tests for the new BlockStored and EngineCoreOutput fields
and the prompt-embeds width check.

P1 (docs): the new KV-events default for EAGLE/MTP workers isn't documented. vllm/args.py now turns off vLLM 0.33's lookahead block hashes whenever a worker publishes KV events with speculative decoding. The PR description says the cost is that these workers keep 0.32's trailing-block drop and lose 0.33's lookahead prefix-cache reuse, and that an explicit user setting overrides the default. Neither point appears in the docs. docs/fern/pages/developer-guide/additional-resources/speculative-decoding/speculative-decoding-with-vllm.md is where a user combining Eagle3 with --router-mode kv would look. Please add a short note covering the default, the trade-off, and how to override it (disable_lookahead_block_hashes in the speculative config). (This file isn't in the diff, so I can't comment inline.)

The vLLM sidecar now defaults structural tags on when vLLM reports version
0.33 or later, as the in-process vLLM worker and the SGLang sidecar (#16494)
already do. vLLM 0.33.0 is the first release whose gRPC server compiles these
tags with xgrammar (vllm-project/vllm#61892); older servers send them to
guidance, which rejects them, so the default stays off there. The version comes
from ServerInfo.engine_version and is compared with pep440_rs.
Folded in from #17866.

No vLLM-Omni release supports core vLLM 0.33 yet, and Omni 0.32 cannot
start on it. Build the CUDA image's Omni from the head of
vllm-omni#9648 (fe886bbb) through GitHub's source archive, under version
0.33.0.dev0, until Omni publishes a 0.33 release.
Pin Transformers 5.19.0 and tokenizers 0.23.3 on CUDA, because Omni
still caps Transformers below 5.20. Omni 0.33 appends stage_payload and
stage_work to EngineCoreOutput; the renderer contract test expects them.
CPU and XPU keep Omni 0.32.0rc1.

Workers that publish KV events default disable_lookahead_block_hashes to
true. Document the default, its prefix-cache cost, and that turning it
off on those workers is not supported.

Thanks for the review. The KV-events default is now documented in speculative-decoding-with-vllm.md (5a3bfac): workers that publish KV events default disable_lookahead_block_hashes to true, which gives up lookahead prefix-cache reuse for EAGLE/MTP. Setting it to false on such a worker is documented as unsupported rather than as an override, because the KV router expects one hash per block.
Yes, folded in from #17866 as 72a823c. The vLLM sidecar now publishes structural tags by default when vLLM reports 0.33 or later, matching the in-process worker and the SGLang sidecar (#16494). 0.32 servers reject these tags, so the default stays off there; --dyn-structural-tag overrides it either way.
The PR updates Dynamo’s vLLM integration to 0.33.0, adjusts frontend CLI discovery and Omni installation, preserves legacy block hashes for speculative decoding with KV events, and makes Rust sidecar structural-tag defaults depend on the discovered vLLM version. Tests and documentation reflect these compatibility changes.

When KV events are enabled, the engine configuration sets disable_lookahead_block_hashes for configured speculative decoding when that field is available. Tests check the setting and BlockStored field order. The documentation describes the related hash behavior.
The Rust sidecar enables structural tags by default for parsed vLLM versions 0.33 or later. Tests cover version-based defaults and explicit configuration. Documentation describes the version policy and opt-out command.
Speculators-based workers that publish KV events may emit lookahead hashes that the router cannot match. CPU/XPU CI jobs on vLLM 0.32 are likely to fail on the new tests. The frontend also cannot start with the vLLM chat processor on vLLM 0.29–0.31. Resolve these before merging.

vLLM 0.33 derives an EAGLE/MTP speculative config from a
speculators-format checkpoint inside create_engine_config, even with no
--speculative-config or --spec-method. The lookahead-hash default
returned before that, so such a worker publishing KV events kept
lookahead hashes. Ask vLLM's own speculators detection first.
Also move the KV-events test's imports to module scope.

The CI build log shows that the image build replaces pydantic 2.14.2 with 2.13.5 and transformers 5.20.2 with 5.19.0. The build step that checks the Transformers and tokenizers versions ran and passed. The Omni step adds no new package and no new major version compared with the merge base. Both steps lower huggingface-hub to 1.33.0 and accelerate to 1.12.0.
In CI on this head, aggregated_lmcache passed (194 s), and both cases of test_kv_event_publisher_keeps_legacy_block_hashes passed.
Python and Rust changes: what this review ran.
Frontend import: with this PR's Python code, the frontend starts with --dyn-chat-processor vllm on both images and reaches "HTTP server listening". It loads vllm.entrypoints.common.cli_args on 0.33 and vllm.entrypoints.launchers.cli_args on 0.32. A real ModuleNotFoundError inside the new module still stops the frontend with its traceback (stub vllm packages).
KV-events default on 0.33, through update_engine_config_with_dynamo: an EAGLE3 config gets disable_lookahead_block_hashes: True. An explicit False stays False, and an explicit True stays True. --spec-method alone and a local speculators checkpoint also get the default. A plain model gets no change. On 0.32 the code makes no change and imports without error.
maybe_override_with_speculators during argument parsing: a local folder reads only its config.json. A cached Hub model resolves with no network, with and without HF_HUB_OFFLINE=1. A Hub ID that is not cached now fails during argument parsing with OSError. vLLM makes the same call later in create_engine_config, so such a worker cannot start without this PR either.
Sidecar version gate (pep440_rs 0.7.3): 0.33.0, 0.33.0+cu130, 0.33.1 and 0.34.0.dev1 turn the default on. 0.33.0rc3, 0.33.0.dev0+g…, 0.32.0, an empty string and garbage keep it off. That matches the docs. CI ran structural_tags_default_on_from_vllm_0_33 on this head, and it passed.
Docs: gen_llms_tables.py --check passes at this head. A deliberate change to the vLLM pin in releases.data.ts makes it fail.
A merge of this head with main at 2ec0b1112d has no conflict.

This review read head eb592aa34c45bfb7181e1ed378b1aaeea43f8769. No P0 or P1 found. One P2 is open.
[P2] The Omni pin fe886bbb is still on no branch, and Omni has no release for core 0.33 yet. The thread on container/context.yaml:102 is open again until the pin moves to that release.
Fixed in bd6d4a0beb: lib/bindings/python/Cargo.lock lists pep440_rs. The evidence is on that thread.
Fixed in eb592aa34c: the new case for --dyn-structural-tag false on 0.33 fails under a deliberate break of the opt-out. The evidence is on that thread. Both fix commits match, byte for byte, the changes that the earlier review proposed.
Open item: a merge with main at b0a6bd169b conflicts in three docs files. The tested steps are below.
Open item from another review: the docs review asked for a note that the CPU and XPU images stay on vLLM 0.32.0. The head has no such note, and the reply plans a separate docs PR.
Merge with `main`: tested steps.
#17653 changed the SGLang and NIXL pins in the main (ToT) row, next to the vLLM pin of this PR. This review tested the steps on a merge with main at 478b247b74. The six later commits up to b0a6bd169b change no Rust, lock or docs pin file. A merge with b0a6bd169b conflicts in the same three files. Do the steps in this order. Step 1 must come first.
Merge main into the branch.
In docs/fern/components/releases.data.ts, keep both changes in the one conflict hunk:
vllm: "0.33.0",nixlSglang: "1.5.2",
Do not edit the conflicts in compatibility.mdx and releases-machine-readable.mdx by hand. Take the side of this branch for both files, then run python3 docs/fern/scripts/gen_llms_tables.py.
Run python3 docs/fern/scripts/gen_llms_tables.py --check. It must exit 0.
After these steps, each page differs from main only in the vLLM value of the main (ToT) row, and --check exits 0. A pin change without a new run of the generator makes --check exit 1. On the merged tree, cargo metadata --locked exits 0 in all three workspaces, and cargo test --locked -p dynamo-vllm-sidecar passes (134 + 3 tests, 0 failed). The merged tree no longer holds the one link that lychee rejected. main removed it in 740a7078ad.
Facts for the two new questions: the `pep440_rs` dependency and vLLM nightly versions.
The pep440_rs dependency:
pep440_rs 0.7.3 was already in both lock files at the merge base. On Linux, dynamo-vllm-sidecar already built it through dynamo-llm, dynamo-mocker and aisimulate-core (cargo tree -i pep440_rs).
This PR adds a direct dependency on that same version. Neither lock gains a package: 1038 and 960 packages at the merge base and at this head.
vLLM nightly versions:
vLLM sets its version with setuptools-scm and git describe --tags --match v[0-9]* in setup.py. The engine sends that version to the gRPC server, which reports it as engine_version. The vLLM image build runs the same step with .git mounted.
The rc0 tags are on vLLM main: v0.32.0rc0, v0.32.1rc0 and v0.33.0rc0. v0.33.0rc1 to v0.33.0rc3 and v0.33.0 are on the release branch, and main does not contain them.
So a nightly from main after v0.33.0rc0 (2026-10-26) reports 0.33.0rc1.dev<N>+g<sha>, before and after the v0.33.0 tag. At the main tip 275816d060, that is 0.33.0rc1.dev651+g275816d060…. Nightlies between v0.32.1rc0 (2026-10-18) and v0.33.0rc0 report 0.32.1rc1.dev<N>+g<sha>.
vllm-project/vllm#61892 merged on 2026-10-18, 13 commits after v0.32.1rc0. So every nightly with that change reports 0.32.1rc1.dev13 or later.
A nightly reports 0.33 or later only after vLLM puts a v0.33.1rc0 tag on main. Its version is then 0.33.1rc1.dev<N>+g<sha>. vLLM put v0.32.1rc0 on a main commit dated one day after the v0.32.0 commit.
The gate on these strings, through compiles_structural_tags and from_discovered in a temporary unit test:
engine_version
default
0.33.0 (control)
on
0.32.0 (control)
off
0.32.1rc1.dev13+ge0adacc9…
off
0.33.0rc1.dev651+g275816d060…, also with .cu129 or a short hash
off
0.33.0rc3
off
dev (the fallback in vllm/version.py)
off
0.33.1rc1.dev2+g…
on
0.34.0rc1.dev5+g…
on
So no nightly turns the default on without vllm-project/vllm#61892. Nightlies that have the change keep it off, as the docs say for development builds. A scratch history with the tag layout of vLLM gave the version strings above with setuptools-scm 10.3.4 and 8.3.1. No Dynamo CI lane runs a vLLM nightly, and this review downloaded no nightly wheel or image.
CI and images at this head.
CI on eb592aa34c: 92 passed, 39 skipped, 1 failed (lychee).
lychee has one error: https://github.com/hdimmfh returns 404 in docs/fern/pages/reference/general/releases/dynamo-v1-4-0.mdx. This PR does not change that file, and it adds no docs link.
The skipped jobs include xpu-ci-vllm. No PR job built or tested the CPU and XPU images.
This review pulled no image for this head. The two new commits change only lib/bindings/python/Cargo.lock and a test. The image table of the earlier review on 2026-11-03 (head d6d45ef09e) still applies to everything else. In CI on this head, the vllm-runtime image build compiled pep440_rs v0.7.3. Its two Test cuda13.0 jobs, the 2-GPU test and the four vllm Deploy Test jobs passed.
…al tags
PEP 440 orders pre-release and dev versions before their release, so
vLLM nightlies such as 0.33.0rc1.dev649+gc3fd4ff44 compared below 0.33
and left structural tags off. Compare only the release segment.

Review feedback on this PR: keep vllm_omni_ref in the shared vllm: key, as

- vllm.cpu gets transformers_version 5.19.0 / tokenizers_version 0.23.2:
Omni fe886bbb caps Transformers <5.20, and vLLM 0.32 accepts both.

factory: Nit — automated AI review (advisory). The docs say vLLM 0.33.0 release candidates and development builds default to false, but the vLLM sidecar turns structural tags on for them.
Evidence: lib/sidecar/vllm/src/model.rs:144 compares version.only_release() >= Version::new([0, 33]), and lib/sidecar/vllm/src/engine.rs:1681 expects true for 0.33.0rc1.dev649+gc3fd4ff44. cargo test --locked -p dynamo-vllm-sidecar --lib passes that case.

Assessment: sound
This review looked at the PR as the fix for runtime LoRA loading through the vLLM sidecar on vLLM 0.32.0. On 0.32.0, every adapter load fails with Call to add_lora method failed: Expected `bool`, got `null` - at `$[4]` . The bump to 0.33.0 is the right fix, and nothing in Dynamo can fix it on 0.32.0. I found one doc nit and no blocking issues.
Finding
Nit: docs/fern/pages/use-cases/tool-calling-and-reasoning/structural-tag.md:175-176. The docs say vLLM 0.33.0 release candidates and development builds default to false. After 570b8ab842, compiles_structural_tags compares only the release segment (lib/sidecar/vllm/src/model.rs:144), so they default to on. Your test asserts this at lib/sidecar/vllm/src/engine.rs:1681 ("0.33.0rc1.dev649+gc3fd4ff44" expects true). Dropping that sentence or inverting it fixes the docs.
Why 0.33.0 fixes the LoRA load
vllm-project/vllm#60024 removed tensorizer_config_dict from the array_likeLoRARequest struct in 0.32.0. That moved load_inplace: bool to index 4. The vllm-rs 0.32.0 binary still encodes the old 7-field layout: strings on it finds tensorizer_config_dict, and rust/src/engine-core-client/src/protocol/lora.rs on upstream releases/v0.32.0 still declares it. So it sends null at index 4. vllm-project/vllm#63295 removes the field from the Rust encoder:
gh api repos/vllm-project/vllm/compare/v0.32.0...7b1d07440d -> diverged
gh api repos/vllm-project/vllm/compare/v0.33.0...7b1d07440d -> behind
The fix is therefore in 0.33.0 and not in 0.32.0, and no 0.32.x backport exists. The sidecar only forwards lora_name and lora_path, and a bare vllm-rs serve fails the same way.
Before/after runs of the LoRA lifecycle
Your Validation section does not cover the LoRA claim, so I ran it on one A100 with Qwen/Qwen3-0.6B and codelion/Qwen3-0.6B-accuracy-recovery-lora. I used this branch's dynamo-vllm-sidecar and the unchanged lib/sidecar/vllm/launch/agg_lora.sh. Only the vLLM package changed between the two runs.

Upgrade checks
container/deps/requirements.vllm.txt needs no change. It names no vLLM version, and its CUDA-only pydantic==2.13.5 pin still fits vLLM 0.33.0's pydantic>=2.12.0. The other version owners from the 0.the validation command.32 bump (build(vllm): bump core to v0.32.0 and Omni to v0.32.0rc1 #16757) are all updated.
The v0.33.0 tag is identical to v0.33.0rc3, so I checked the diff against the rc3 release notes:
The FrontendArgs move and the lookahead-hash default are handled.
EngineCoreOutput.error and the NIXL 1.5 requirement are handled.
The 0.32 fallbacks in frontend/main.py and vllm/args.py still import on 0.32.0.
The removed Medusa, MLP-speculator, and Ray compiled-graph pieces are not used here.
One 0.33 change has no PR-time test: vllm-rs now rejects unsupported vllm serve flags (vllm#62431). The disaggregated and KV-router sidecar launchers run only in the post-merge sidecar and vllm job, so that job is where a flag rejection would first show up.
Suggestions outside this PR
Add a sidecar LoRA case. No CI job runs a sidecar LoRA launcher today. The agg_lora cases in tests/serve/test_vllm.py use the Python worker, which was never affected. A SidecarConfig in tests/serve/test_sidecar.py would have caught this before an RC. It would run lib/sidecar/vllm/launch/agg_lora.sh, load the adapter through POST :8081/v1/loras, send a lora_chat_payload, and unload it, with the same marks as vllm_aggregated.
release/1.7.0 needs its own decision. It still pins vllm==0.32.0, so sidecar runtime LoRA stays broken there whatever happens here. The options are:
cherry-pick the core bump without the Omni part;
ship with a documented known issue (the in-process dynamo.vllm LoRA path works);
vllm-project/vllm-omni#9648 merged and v0.33.0rc1 is published on PyPI,
so the installer no longer builds Omni from a GitHub source archive.
Also correct the structural-tag docs: 0.33 release candidates and
development builds use the default since 570b8ab.

Overview
Move the CUDA runtime image and the
ai-dynamo[vllm]extra to vLLM 0.33.0. The GitHub release is published under the tagv0.33.0rc3; thev0.33.0tag points to the same commit,4ba787ec. Without this PR's frontend fix,--chat-processor vllmexits at startup on 0.33. Without its KV-events default, workers that publish KV events would send 0.33's EAGLE/MTP lookahead block hashes, which Dynamo's KV indexers do not accept. It also folds in #17866: the vLLM sidecar now publishes structural tags by default on vLLM 0.33 and later.vLLM-Omni 0.32 cannot run on core 0.33: it imports a vLLM module that 0.33 removed, and with that fixed its engine still fails on the first request.
FrontendArgsfromvllm.entrypoints.common.cli_args, where vllm#62390 moved it, and fall back to the old module for the 0.32 CPU and XPU images.disable_lookahead_block_hashesto true. vLLM 0.33 turns lookahead hashes on for EAGLE/MTP when prefix caching is on and no KV connector is set (vllm#61589). Those hashes also cover tokens after each block, so one block can be published under two hashes. This also covers a model given as a speculators-format checkpoint: vLLM derives its EAGLE/MTP config insidecreate_engine_config, so Dynamo asks vLLM's ownmaybe_override_with_speculatorsfirst. An explicit user setting still wins. The cost is that these workers keep 0.32's trailing-block drop instead of 0.33's lookahead prefix-cache reuse. speculative-decoding-with-vllm.md documents the default and that turning it off on these workers is not supported.vllm/vllm-openai:v0.33.0. vLLM 0.33 publishes no separate-ubuntu2404tag; its default image is Ubuntu 24.04.pyproject.tomland the release tables move to 0.33.0.v0.33.0rc1from PyPI through the existing installer, and pins Transformers 5.19.0 and tokenizers 0.23.3, because Omni 0.33.0rc1 caps Transformers below 5.20. CPU and XPU keep Omni 0.32.0rc1.always, schemaauto) by default when vLLM reports version 0.33 or later, including its pre-releases and nightlies, as the in-process worker and the SGLang sidecar (fix(sidecar): publish structural tags from the SGLang sidecar by default #16494) already do. A forced tool call cut off bymax_tokensthen ends as it does in-process instead of streaming unterminatedarguments.--dyn-structural-tagstill overrides it either way.compiles_structural_tagsparsesServerInfo.engine_versionwithpep440_rs, the Rust port of Python'spackaging.version, and compares only its release segment, because PEP 440 orders nightlies such as0.33.0rc1.dev649+gc3fd4ff44before 0.33.0. It was already built into the sidecar throughdynamo-llm; it is now a direct dependency, and the workspace and Python-bindingsCargo.lockfiles each gain one line. Also in this PR:
BlockStored.lookahead_token_ids,EngineCoreOutput.error(vllm#51488), and the prompt-embeds width check, which now readsword_embed_proj_dimfirst. With Omni loaded, the struct contract test also expects the two fields Omni 0.33 appends toEngineCoreOutput,stage_payloadandstage_work; no Dynamo code reads them.requirements.vllm.txtfloors and ships NIXL 1.5.0, which the 0.33 NIXL connector requires.vllm-rsstill sends theLoRARequestfield that vllm#60024 removed, so the engine rejects every adapter load; vllm#63295 drops the field in 0.33.0.Validation

The bullets below also cover a second image built from the full Dockerfile atbb4c734873plus the Omni commit448b2521, that is, this branch without the folded-in sidecar change.--chat-processor vllmfrontendcli_argsmodule is gonedisaggregated_same_gpu_chat_processor,disaggregated_same_gpu_chat_processor_kv_router, and the 8test_vllm_prepost_integration.pycases passtest_kv_event_publisher_keeps_legacy_block_hashespasses; it fails with the fix removedBlockStored,EngineCoreOutput, and 13 prompt-embeds cases failaggregated,aggregated_logprobs,aggregated_lmcache,disaggregated_same_gpu(NIXL),guided_decoding,embedding_agg, andmm_agg_qwen3-vl-2bpass. On the second image, with Omni installed and Transformers 5.19.0, they pass again, together withaggregated_spec_decoding, both chat-processor cases, and the 8 pre/post cases.scipyandimageiothat 7 realtime and video cases need.fe886bbbandv0.33.0rc1. Onvllm/vllm-openai:v0.33.0with the Transformers pin, this branch's Omni installer installs 0.33.0rc1 from PyPI and its entrypoints import;uv pip checkreports only the two conflicts that the upstream image already has. The Omni code differs fromfe886bbb, so the next bullet's serve results are for that commit; CI reruns Dynamo's Omni jobs on 0.33.0rc1.fe886bbb: with Omni0.33.0.dev0+gfe886bbb…installed by the image build, Dynamo's Omni unit tests run without skipping and pass, and theomni_audio(text-to-speech) andomni_t2v(Wan2.1 1.3B text-to-video) serve tests pass. With Omni 0.32.0rc1 and a Transformers 5.19.0 pin instead, the Omni serve tests fail: first on the removedvllm.entrypoints.launchers.cli_args, then, with that import patched, becauseOmniAsyncOutputlacks vLLM 0.33'sget_kv_connector_output.vllm/vllm-openai:v0.33.0match the recordednvidia/cudabaseline (sha256:2ab6381d) on amd64 and arm64.structural_tags_default_on_from_vllm_0_33passes and fails if the default gates on vllm-proto 0.6; it also checks that--dyn-structural-tag falseturns the default off on 0.33, and that the nightly0.33.0rc1.dev649+gc3fd4ff44gets the default, a case that fails without the release-segment comparison; the sidecar unit and testkit suites pass (487 passed, 4 ignored). WithQwen/Qwen3-0.6Band a debug build of the same sidecar code, 0.33.0 publishes the tag, every tool-call request returns 200, and a truncated forced call ends asget_weather({}), as in-process. 0.32.0 publishes no tag and still returns 200. With the tag forced on, 0.32.0 returns 500 for every request that offers tools, which is why the default checks the version. fix(sidecar): publish structural tags from the vLLM sidecar on vLLM 0.33+ #17866 has the full table.lib/sidecar/vllm/launch/agg_lora.shwithcodelion/Qwen3-0.6B-accuracy-recovery-lora. On 0.32.0 the adapter load returns 500 withExpected `bool`, got `null` - at `$[4]`; on 0.33.0 load, list, chat, and unload succeed.Known Issues
vllm/vllm-openai:v0.33.0image ships LMCache 0.5.6 built for torch 2.13. Under its torch 2.14,lmcache.cuda_opsfails to import (undefined symbolc10_cuda_check_implementation). LMCache 0.5.7rc3 fails the same way. LMCache falls back to its torch implementation andaggregated_lmcachepasses; the performance effect is not measured. This is an upstream packaging issue, and this PR does not change LMCache.>=5.16.1,<5.21). vLLM 0.33's Transformers-backend MTP draft model requires 5.20.0, so it is unavailable in this image.CUDNN_ATTNbackend. Omni's own images preload cuDNN 9.25.1 instead. This PR does not change cuDNN, and the effect on Dynamo's Omni image paths is not tested.Issues and Ongoing Work
FrontendArgsfrom the old module unconditionally, which fails on 0.33.args.py,embedding_worker_processes.py, and two of the contract tests changed here.AI assistance: implementation and review used Claude Code.
