Record the Omni 0.32 request and output fields, including is_coalesced, so the versioned renderer contract covers the upgraded package. Bound the listener handoff regression at 180 seconds to prevent an unbounded subprocess or socket hang. Signed-off-by: Julien Darve <jdarve@NVIDIA.com>

Nothing blocking. The listener handoff matches vLLM 0.32's own RustFrontendProcessManager (supervisor binds, pass_fds, parent closes its copy after Popen, make_zmq_socket adopts via detach()), and the 5.19.0 / 0.23.2 pins sit inside vLLM 0.32's ranges. A few simplifications inline.
Optional: once new-head CI runs, set the 180 s timeout on test_embedding_child_adopts_supervisor_bound_listeners from the measured runtime.

Omni 0.32.0rc1 accepts the same Transformers range as vLLM 0.32.0, and vllm/vllm-openai:v0.32.0 already ships Transformers 5.19.0 and tokenizers 0.23.3. The CUDA pin only downgraded tokenizers, so pin Transformers and tokenizers only on the CPU and XPU images, which still use Omni 0.31.0rc1. The Omni installer continues to freeze both packages at the installed versions. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Julien Darve <jdarve@NVIDIA.com>
…worker The realtime worker imported load_chat_template through the frontend's compatibility module, making dynamo.vllm depend on dynamo.frontend. Import it from vLLM directly, using the 0.31 location for the CPU and XPU images. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Julien Darve <jdarve@NVIDIA.com>
The LoRA lifecycle test only needs the adapter card to carry the base model's combined limit; the overflow policy is covered by the runtime metadata test. That test runs only on the vLLM 0.32 CUDA image, so it now expects 0.32's policy directly. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Julien Darve <jdarve@NVIDIA.com>
vLLM 0.28 replaced the 4-tuple from launch_core_engines with CoreEngineLaunch. The tuple branch existed for the XPU image while it was on vLLM 0.27.1; every image is now on 0.31 or later, so the branch and its tests cannot run. A missing field still fails with an error naming the verified vLLM versions. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Julien Darve <jdarve@NVIDIA.com>
Regenerate the compatibility and machine-readable release tables with docs/fern/scripts/gen_llms_tables.py from the merged releases.data.ts, keeping main's v1.6.0 rows and this branch's vLLM 0.32.0 main row. The test's existing cases pass unchanged on vLLM 0.31 and 0.32. The added oversized max_tokens case needed a version check, but vLLM's scheduler stops a request at max_model_len either way, so it only checked an internal value. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Julien Darve <jdarve@NVIDIA.com>
The struct-contract test only runs on the CUDA image, which ships vLLM 0.32 and vLLM-Omni 0.32. Drop the vLLM 0.31 guard and the per-release Omni field table; the Omni-installed check remains. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Julien Darve <jdarve@NVIDIA.com>

On vLLM 0.32 the frontend forwards oversized max_tokens, and artifact capture sizes its memory reservation from the worker's capped value. Check the cap in a module that runs only on the CUDA image, so it needs no version check. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Julien Darve <jdarve@NVIDIA.com>

All six earlier points are addressed. Having the realtime worker import from vLLM directly is cleaner than the shared-module follow-up. Checked against v0.32.0: the worker's get_max_tokens call matches vLLM's own serving paths, mm_device_do_normalize exists on both 0.31 and 0.32 (0.32's Qwen-VL .visual now normalizes internally), and the Omni 0.32.0rc1 output fields match the renderer test. Two optional nits inline.
The child process now runs this test module as a script and calls _run_listener_child(), so its code is ordinary, linted Python. The test still crosses a real process boundary to check that inherited listening sockets survive Popen(pass_fds=...) and are adopted by the child path. No P0 or P1 found. This review read head b7da936a80d913aadcb74c39a84a952202ce3be9. A merge of that head with main at 6278e410d2 has no conflicts. The GPU runs used the CI images of 0c694415b6, and b7da936a80 changes only test_embedding_worker_processes.py.
Findings (each one is inline):
- [P2]
components/src/dynamo/vllm/handlers.py:954: on vLLM 0.32, Dynamo accepts and caps amax_tokensabovemax_model_len, but vLLM 0.32.0 rejects it with 400. - [P3]
docs/fern/components/releases.data.ts:82: the main rows list NIXL 1.4.1 for vLLM, but the CUDA image now ships 1.5.0. Please also name the NIXL 1.5.0 change in the description. - [P3]
container/context.yaml:97: the runtime image shipspydantic2.14.1, above the<=2.13.5thatai-dynamo-runtimedeclares, and the pytest lanes run 2.13.5.

handlers.py:955andembedding_worker_processes.py:36. Forhandlers.py:955, this review measured that the worker's own imports already loadfastapi,starletteandvllm.entrypoints.serve.utils.api_utils. So the first request pays 0.0 ms for that import, andhas_vllm_output_clamping()takes about 135 ns per call. - CI: the
PRrun 40008665133 on this head was still queued at 19:24Z. Run 39997786673 on0c694415b6passed 60 jobs, and its 20 skipped jobs cover other backends and tools. The vLLM disaggregated deploy tests skipped their test ("CI cluster lacks RDMA/UCX for inter-pod KV transfer"). The 2-GPU job rantest_serve_deployment[disaggregated-3], and it passed.PR-XPUran only its guard job, so this PR builds no XPU image.
What this review measured, with controls.
Images: this review used the CI images of 0c694415b6, …-vllm-runtime and …-vllm-runtime-test. For vLLM 0.31.0 it used the merge-base image c3b7504607…-vllm-runtime-test. All runs used one RTX 6000 Ada.
Dockerfiles. container/render.py rendered 90 vLLM combinations per tree (3 devices, 5 targets, 3 platforms, EFA on and off). 70 render in both trees, and the same 20 XPU arm64 cases fail in both. All 40 CPU and XPU outputs are byte-identical. All 30 CUDA outputs change, EFA included. They change only the runtime tag and the Omni ref, and they lose the Transformers and tokenizers pin arguments, install step and version check. After a merge with main at e2a57bf06c, the CUDA change is the same apart from the uv cache id. Since then, main changed no file under container/. No other file reads transformers_version, tokenizers_version, TRANSFORMERS_VERSION or TOKENIZERS_VERSION.
Packages, merge base to head: vLLM 0.31.0 to 0.32.0, Omni 0.31.0rc1 to 0.32.0rc1, Transformers 5.14.1 to 5.19.0, tokenizers 0.22.2 to 0.23.3, NIXL 1.4.1 to 1.5.0. torch 2.13.0+cu130, FlashInfer 0.7.0.post1 and ai-dynamo 1.6.0 do not change. The Omni install step leaves Transformers and tokenizers alone. It moves huggingface-hub from 2.2.0 to 1.33.0 and accelerate from 1.15.0 to 1.12.0, which vLLM 0.32.0 and Omni accept. The upstream base also moves grpcio and grpcio-status from 1.84.0 to 1.78.0 and adds grpcio-observability 1.78.0.
Base layers and codecs. On amd64 and arm64, the first five layers of the head image match the cuda@2ab6381d baseline, nvidia/cuda:13.0.2-base-ubuntu24.04. A different baseline does not match. The only libavcodec is the in-tree /usr/local/lib/libavcodec_dynamo.so.63.1.101, with a copy in the retained source tree. It registers 3 decoders, none of h264, hevc, aac, aac_fixed and aac_latm. compliance.scan_codecs over / reports 0 violations, 6 PyNvVideoCodec exceptions and 37 allowed paths, the same as the merge-base image. A planted libavcodec.so.99 fails it. The CI audit compared against osrb-vllm-runtime-13.0-amd64-c3b75046.csv, the merge-base inventory, as the description says.
Serving, Qwen/Qwen3-0.6B, --max-model-len 256, a 26-token prompt, temperature 0 and ignore_eos. The Dynamo columns use the frontend and one worker:

Disaggregated serving with NIXL 1.5.0. A decode and a prefill worker with NixlConnector on one GPU served 3 requests with 112-token prompts (200, length). The request counter of each worker went from 0 to 3, and the decode worker logged NIXL compatibility check passed.
Embedding pool, Qwen/Qwen3-Embedding-0.6B, --embedding-worker-processes 2, 0.32.0. 32 requests returned 200, and each process served 16 (status ports 8081 and 8082). The parent holds only its own two listeners and the child holds its own two. EngineCore holds none. After SIGTERM the parent exited 0 in 16 s, and no worker process, listener or RPC folder stayed. In vLLM 0.32.0, ZmqListener.cleanup() closes through the Python socket object. So after the parent's listener.close(), a later cleanup() did not close the reused descriptor numbers 3 and 4, and a raw os.close control did. A child that exits at startup with status 3 makes the monitor send SIGTERM to the parent. The parent finishes startup, shuts down and exits 0, and nothing stays behind. That shutdown path is unchanged code. On 0.31.0 with the head code, the same pool served 32 requests, 16 per process, and stopped cleanly.
Encode worker, Qwen/Qwen3-VL-2B-Instruct, with the encode and PD workers on one GPU and a generated image of a red circle and a blue square:
mm_device_do_normalize |
answer |
|---|---|
False, as in this head |
"A red circle and a blue square." |
True, the 0.32.0 default for this model |
"The image contains a black circle and a black square." |
vLLM 0.31.0 EngineArgs also has mm_device_do_normalize, so the CPU and XPU images accept the argument.
Imports. prepost.py, vllm_processor.py, vllm_protocol.py and the realtime factory import on 0.32.0 from vllm.renderers.chat_utils. On 0.31.0 with the head files, they import from vllm.entrypoints.chat_utils.
Tests. In the head test image, the vLLM and frontend unit tests (vllm and (gpu_0 or gpu_1) and not e2e) gave 2864 passed. The merge-base image gave 2865 passed. Both failed the same 10 tests, whose models are not in the offline cache. The vLLM case of tests/serve/test_token_budget_parity.py passed. On 0.31.0, vllm and xpu_1 and not e2e gave the same result with the head code and with the base code (990 passed). No changed test carries xpu_1. Three changed tests fail on 0.31.0 with the head code: two in test_runtime_metadata.py, and test_engine_core_struct_contract, because Omni 0.31.0rc1 has no is_coalesced. No CI lane runs them on 0.31.0.
At b7da936a80, test_embedding_worker_processes.py passed (14 tests). Four breaks each made its listener test fail. The breaks removed pass_fds, swapped the two child descriptors, removed the call to _run_listener_child(), or removed the echo in the child.
Deliberate breaks of the new code, run against the changed test files (664 pass without a break):

No P0 or P1 found at head b7da936a80d913aadcb74c39a84a952202ce3be9. One P2 and two P3 items stay open in the COMMENT review: max_tokens above max_model_len on vLLM 0.32, the NIXL version in the main rows of the compatibility tables, and the pydantic version above the ai-dynamo-runtime ceiling.
This review rendered every vLLM Dockerfile target at the merge base and at this head. It tested the CI images of 0c694415b6 and of the merge base on one GPU. b7da936a80 changes only test_embedding_worker_processes.py, and that file passed at b7da936a80. The tests covered:
- Serving with oversized and missing
max_tokens, against nativevllm serve0.32.0. - The two-process embedding pool and its shutdown.
- The encode worker with
Qwen/Qwen3-VL-2B-Instruct. - A NIXL 1.5.0 prefill and decode pair.
- Imports on vLLM 0.31.0 and 0.32.0.
- The vLLM unit tests and deliberate breaks of the new code.
CI run 39997786673 passed on 0c694415b6. The PR run 40008665133 on this head was still queued at 19:24Z. Open items: two threads from other reviewers. Not tested: the CPU and XPU images, Omni image generation, and a pip install of ai-dynamo[vllm].
vLLM's get_max_tokens has the same path and body in 0.31 and 0.32, so the worker imports it at module level and calls it on every image. The request path no longer checks the vLLM version; has_vllm_output_clamping() only feeds the token-budget metadata published at registration. The lazy global only guarded the removed get_engine_zmq_addresses rename; getattr now handles that, and vllm.v1.engine.utils is already loaded through async_llm. Tests still patch processes.launch_core_engines. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Julien Darve <jdarve@NVIDIA.com>
handlers.py now imports get_max_tokens from vllm.entrypoints.serve.utils.api_utils at module level. Without stubs for that package, marker-only collection fails for every test module that imports the vLLM handlers. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Julien Darve <jdarve@NVIDIA.com>
vLLM 0.32 stopped rejecting prompt plus max_tokens beyond the context but still rejects an output budget above max_model_len with 400. Dynamo's frontend no longer rejects total overflow on 0.32, so the worker now rejects that case before computing the capped budget. vllm/vllm-openai:v0.32.0 ships NIXL 1.5.0, which the CUDA runtime image inherits. Pin the same version in the ai-dynamo[vllm] extra and record it in the main row of the generated compatibility tables. vllm/vllm-openai:v0.32.0 bundles pydantic 2.14.1, above the <=2.13.5 that ai-dynamo-runtime declares and the test image installs. Pin pydantic 2.13.5 and pydantic-core 2.46.5 in the CUDA runtime image, so it ships what the test lanes run. The XPU and CPU images filter the pin out. Summary
Upgrade the CUDA runtime to vLLM 0.32.0 and vLLM-Omni 0.32.0rc1, and update the
ai-dynamo[vllm]extra to core 0.32.0.Upstream vllm-omni#9066, aligning Omni with core 0.32.0, merged on October 19, 2026. The GitHub prerelease was published that day; the non-yanked PyPI wheel followed on October 21 at 7:19 PM PDT (October 22 at 02:19 UTC). Dynamo's package-based installer successfully installed that wheel with core 0.32.0. Package publication and the previous Transformers dependency conflict are resolved.
