Summary

Replace Dynamo's duplicate Weka parser and converter with AISimulate's graph loader. Keep trace_format="weka" as a compatibility adapter and execute the resulting graph through the existing typed agentic replay path.

  • Remove the Dynamo Weka parser, lowering code, converter binary, and their build targets.
  • Preserve source block sizes, explicit nested timestamp overrides, and the resolved timestamp basis in offline/online summaries and runner metadata.
  • Retain source-model provenance and the configured execution target; adapt to the required AISimulate API changes.
  • Keep the router implementation unchanged apart from the new protocol field required by AISimulate.

Weka behavior changes

  • auto selects one nested timestamp basis for the whole corpus. Adding a relative-timestamp witness can change other files' interpretation. The resolved basis is reported; explicit absolute retains before-marker rejection.
  • out: 0 remains zero, replacing the former max(1, out) normalization; output totals and timing/throughput metrics can change.
  • Missing/null api_time remains absent in provenance; dependency classification uses a zero-duration interval instead of rejecting the input.

These differences are documented in the CLI reference.

AISimulate nightly migration

Pin Python/benchmarks/containers to aisimulate==0.13.0.dev202609230000000054 and both Cargo manifests plus all three lockfiles to aisimulate-core = "=0.13.0-dev.202609230000000054". Both are published; NVIDIA wheel staging also lists this release. No Git source overrides are required.

This release removes the old AIC import namespaces. Update planner, profiler, runtime helpers, tests and collection stubs to aisimulate / aisimulate_core, including aisimulate.capacity and aisimulate.legacy_cli. Adapt planner construction to the canonical forward-pass configuration API while preserving regression-only operation and native-to-regression fallback.

Lower resolved canonical op-level timing through Dynamo's existing AIC callback, retaining materialized KV capacity. Reject unsupported non-default timing controls explicitly. Initialize the new synthetic cached-prefix field to zero. The nightly now samples vLLM's first token at prefill completion, so both vLLM and SGLang parity checks compare TTFT to context latency without an extra decode step; the 5% tolerance is unchanged. The decode-worker midpass test now uses decode latency to establish its in-flight boundary.

Prediction changes beyond Weka

The dependency upgrade also changes AIC and replay predictions for non-Weka workloads. In the reviewer's comparison of 0.12.0 with the previous September 17 nightly, Qwen/Qwen3-32B on h200_sxm showed roughly 1.69 ms higher AIC TPOT (8.0–9.2% across measured ISLs), unchanged context latency, and SGLang TTFT without the extra decode step. These are historical measurements of that earlier nightly, not measurements of the current September 23 pin or a guarantee for other models/systems. The current nightly also emits vLLM's first token at prefill completion; both backend parity oracles now reflect that behavior. Prediction baselines may therefore change outside Weka as well.

Validation

The local results below were collected during the upgrade through 8a5fbade09; they do not validate the subsequent main merge ab14ca4a84.

  • Built the native runtime with aic-forward-pass against the published 0.13 nightly, in a fresh Python 3.12 environment with no aiconfigurator or aiconfigurator_core packages.
  • Main upgrade suite: 1,581 passed, 8 existing unsupported-combination skips, covering planner/profiler unit tests, native AIC/task integration, replay/binding and dependency checks. Supplementary simulation checks: 31 passed, including rejection of unsupported timing controls.
  • Unified CLI: 19 passed. Canonical AIC execution includes both vLLM and SGLang with fixed and automatically estimated capacity; all 8 integration cases passed after the final capacity change (8a5fbade09).
  • Rust mocker: 216 passed. Mocker CI-style Clippy, Python binding Clippy with aic-forward-pass, formatting and pre-commit passed.
  • Ordinary wheel installs on Python 3.11/3.13 plus native Weka checks: 12 passed each. Wheel AIC import/data/performance-model smoke passed. Matching locally built Dynamo runtime wheels were supplied via --find-links.
  • Hosted CI for the current head is pending. Full container builds, GPU lanes, aarch64 and macOS execution were not run locally. The wheel remains Linux-only.

AISimulate #234 remains open and its future-parent regression is absent from this nightly; the P3 dependency thread stays open. The previous requirement to wait for a release retaining legacy AIC imports is superseded by this migration.

Local Linux validation against AISimulate e7f04a04 is green for the changed boundary: cargo test --locked -p dynamo-mocker --lib passed 208/208, Python bindings passed cargo check --locked --features aic-forward-pass --all-targets, both targeted clippy runs passed with -D warnings, and cargo fmt --all -- --check passed. The full Python-binding test build also reached final linking, but the local Docker linker was killed by its memory limit; GitHub's Rust jobs remain independently blocked before compilation by authentication to the private AISimulate VCS dependency, so no CI/dependency gate has been weakened while we wait for published artifacts.

Merge Risk: 🟠 High · up to 78989

This change moves Weka ingestion ownership to AISimulate and adds execution-model projection, but two concrete problems remain: GitHub's automated Rust checks cannot even compile the code because the pinned dependency source requires authentication CI does not have, and a validation change may incorrectly reject legitimate non-agentic Dynamo replay runs that lack a configured target model. Both should be resolved before merging; the internal ticket references and a documentation inaccuracy are lower-priority cleanups.

@dmitry-tokarev-nv Following up on your round 6 review:

  • Pin/version question: addressed in 5b60196d2c / 8a5fbade09. Python is now 0.13.0.dev202609230000000054, with matching Rust and all three lockfiles. Dynamo uses the new namespaces/APIs, so we no longer need a release retaining legacy AIC imports. I already replied with validation on the pin thread.
  • CLI and parity: retained the CLI fix. The newer nightly also emits vLLM's first token at prefill completion; both backends now use context latency for TTFT, keeping the 5% tolerance and TPOT/throughput assertions.
  • Description: now explicitly documents prediction changes outside Weka, including your measured TPOT/TTFT differences, labeled as historical evidence for the previous nightly rather than measurements of this newer pin.
  • Still open: test: preserve Weka future-parent rekey regression aisimulate#234 remains unpublished and its P3 thread stays open. The nightly still has Linux wheels only; the pin upgrade does not solve macOS wheel availability.

Local upgrade validation through 8a5fbade09: 1,581 main-suite passes (8 existing skips), 19 CLI cases and 216 Rust tests passed; all 8 AIC integration cases passed after the final capacity follow-up. A new main merge ab14ca4a84 arrived while I was preparing this reply. Those local results are historical and do not establish that the merged head passes. Hosted planner/GPU/image validation remains outstanding. Please re-review the updated PR; the remaining upstream/platform items are not being represented as fixed.

Not approving yet, at ab14ca4a84 (round 7). Two new P1 findings each fail a test lane that a required check needs, and the pin question on the pin thread is still open. When both P1 findings are fixed, the pin thread is settled, and no new defect appears, I will approve.

Findings at this head:

  • [P1] new: lib/bench/multiturn_bench.rs:587 does not set cached_prefix_tokens, a field that the new SyntheticTraceSpec requires, so multiturn_bench does not compile. Please add cached_prefix_tokens: 0, there, as lib/bindings/python/rust/llm/replay.rs:2381 does. Pre Merge run 35947851023 fails on it, in rust-clippy (.) and in rust-tests (.).
  • [P1] new: pyproject.toml:246. The warning filter does not match the new nightly, so the planner lane fails. Please match the new text. The inline comment has a tested suggestion.
  • [P2] new: in docs/fern/pages/developer-guide/knowledge-base/modular-components/ai-simulate-experimental/, five lines still pin aisimulate==0.12.0 for Dynamo: overview.md:45 and :53, sweeper-experimental/dynamo-integration.md:21 and :33, and sweeper-experimental/quickstart.md:15. With that wheel, 7 of the 17 Dynamo modules that import AISimulate fail to import at this head. Please move these lines to the new pin, and say that it has Linux wheels only.
  • [P2] closed: the version order on the pyproject.toml:17 thread. The new pin sorts above 0.12.0, and cargo now updates to it. The evidence is on that thread.
  • [P3] closed: the description now lists the prediction changes outside Weka. On the same probe, this pin gives the same AIC TPOT and context latency as the Sep 17 nightly. So the numbers in the description hold for it.
  • [P3] open: the ai-dynamo/aisimulate#234 regression test is still in no published build. When a published build has it, please move the pins in pyproject.toml:17 and Cargo.toml:60 to that build. The evidence is on the pin thread.
  • CI: Pre Merge failed on this head, only on the first P1. The PR workflow did not run on this head. Its last run, at 0455422, was cancelled. So the planner, GPU and image lanes still need an /ok to test for the next head.
The bench compile error, measured on the GPU box.

This is the first command of the bench lint step in rust-clippy (.):

cargo clippy --locked --no-deps -p dynamo-bench --no-default-features --features multiturn --bench multiturn_bench -- -D warnings

tree exit
this head ab14ca4a84 101 error[E0063]: missing field `cached_prefix_tokens`
main 158458835e 0
this head + `cached_prefix_tokens: 0,` 0

The CI step stops at this first error. The other eight bench lint commands of that step pass on this head. rust-tests (.) passed all 167 test groups before its bench compile step failed on the same line.

The field is new in aisimulate-core 0.13.0-dev.202609230000000054. It is not in 0.12.0 or in 0.12.0-dev.202609170000000044, and SyntheticTraceSpec has no #[non_exhaustive]. I read the crate source for the value. With 0, the new cached-prefix loop does not run, and the rest of the hash-ID code matches the old crate.

What the old docs pin does to this head.

These lines describe the Dynamo image and the Dynamo source setup. Lines overview.md:45-46 and dynamo-integration.md:21-22 also say that the planner image installs aisimulate==0.12.0 and that Dynamo builds aisimulate-core==0.12.0. At this head, both are the Sep 23 nightly.

I set up the same combination in the CI test image: this head with main merged, a _core built from this head, and aisimulate==0.12.0. Seven of the 17 Dynamo modules that import AISimulate fail:

dynamo.replay.simulation No module named 'aisimulate.capacity'
dynamo.replay.config No module named 'aisimulate.capacity'
dynamo.planner.core.perf_model.engine_query cannot import name 'ForwardPassPerfModelConfig' from 'aisimulate_core.sdk'
dynamo.profiler.rapid No module named 'aisimulate.generator'
dynamo.profiler.profile_sla No module named 'aisimulate.generator'

dynamo.profiler.utils.aic_dataframe No module named 'aisimulate.sdk'

With aisimulate==0.13.0.dev202609230000000054, all 17 import.

Tests and probes at this head, against main.

All runs used b40d169e0a-trtllm-runtime-test on the GPU box, with requirements.planner.txt and a _core that I built from each tree. "Main" is 158458835e with aisimulate==0.12.0. "Head" is this head with main merged and the Sep 23 nightly.

selection main head
planner lane, pre_merge and planner and gpu_0, serial 1938 passed, 1 fail 1955 passed, 2 fail
lib/bindings/python/tests/replay/ 104 passed 128 passed
replay tests, parity, CLI, dependency and AIC unit files 143 passed 161 passed
AISimulate modules and names that Dynamo imports 36/36 and 59/59 34/34 and 61/61

On main, the one failure is an etcd start timeout. On the head, the two failures are that timeout and the filter P1.

The API migration keeps behavior. The planner engine model, the AIC estimator and the AIC interpolation sweep give the same outputs as round 6's head with the Sep 17 wheel. The largest relative difference is 1.3e-14, across 193 outputs of the regression, native AIC and fallback paths. I also compared the new canonical AIC timing path with the legacy aic_* path, in 8 vLLM and SGLang cases. Both give the same block size and num_gpu_blocks in all 8 cases. They give the same TTFT and TPOT in 7 cases. In the eighth, both paths stop with the same error, because 1024 one-token blocks are too few for that trace.

I broke the new code in seven ways. Five mutants fail a test, including a revert of the capacity filter from 8a5fbade09. The other two change nothing that a caller sees. Without the tp mapping, a tp=2 config fails closed. Without attention_dp in the regression config, the outputs stay equal.

The vLLM replay TTFT now equals the AIC context latency within 0.00% at all five ISLs, so the new vLLM oracle is exact. At ISL 256, the vLLM TTFT goes from 198.040 ms on main to 178.990 ms.

The merge commit ab14ca4a84 is clean. A redo from its two parents gives the committed tree. cargo metadata --locked passes in all four workspaces, for this head and for this head merged with main 158458835e.

For context: ai-dynamo/dynamo#15158 · test(mocker): stage disagg… (disaggregated attention DP, ai-dynamo/dynamo#12965) depends on this PR. I rebased it onto ab14ca4 locally and enabled it. Its four staged tests pass against this pin, and so does the rest of the dynamo-mocker lib suite (216/216), so no further AISimulate bump is needed on that side. No action needed here, just noting the dependency for post-merge. Looking forward to further progress!

@dmitry-tokarev-nv Round-7 follow-up. Head is now 85eb3610a5: current main (0ce693b3b0) merged in 1767452dc8, then the fixes in 85eb3610a5.

  • [P1] multiturn_bench compile: added cached_prefix_tokens: 0, at lib/bench/multiturn_bench.rs. cargo clippy --locked --no-deps -p dynamo-bench --no-default-features --features multiturn --bench multiturn_bench -- -D warnings now passes.
  • [P1] pyproject.toml:246 warning filter: took your suggestion. The details are on the inline thread.
  • [P2] docs pins: overview.md, sweeper-experimental/dynamo-integration.md, and sweeper-experimental/quickstart.md now pin aisimulate==0.13.0.dev202609230000000054 / aisimulate-core==0.13.0-dev.202609230000000054, and say that this build ships Linux wheels only (manylinux_2_28 x86_64/aarch64). The remaining 0.12.0 mentions in that folder describe history (the old 0.1.0.dev1 configs), so I left them.
  • [P3] test: preserve Weka future-parent rekey regression aisimulate#234 regression test: still open. I'll move pyproject.toml:17 and Cargo.toml:60 once a published build includes it.

Merge with main: the conflicts were all with #14042 (replay telemetry sinks), in replay/api.py, replay/simulation.py, replay/tests/test_simulation.py, rust/llm/replay.rs, and _core.pyi. I kept both sides everywhere. run_mocker_trace_replay takes both the Weka/execution_model args and the telemetry args. OfflineReplayResult carries both the resolved Weka timestamp basis and the telemetry. The trace path returns (report, resolved_basis) through the new telemetry-aware error handling.

Validation (local x86_64, Python 3.12, _core built from this head with --features aic-forward-pass, nightly wheel):

  • components/src/dynamo/replay/tests + profiler/tests/unit/test_replay_aic_parity.py: 74 passed
  • lib/bindings/python/tests/replay: 159 passed, 8 skipped (disagg online)
  • Rapid selection above: 11 passed
  • cargo test -p dynamo-mocker --lib: 216 passed; bindings cargo clippy --all-targets --features aic-forward-pass -D warnings: clean

The planner, GPU, and image lanes still need an /ok to test on this head.

…ka-aisimulate-adapter

Resolve conflicts with #15063 (canonical AIS perf-model migration), which
supersedes this branch's AISimulate pin and namespace/API migration:

- Take main's pins (aisimulate 0.13.0.dev202609270000000058), planner,
profiler, docs, and dependency tests; accept main's removal of the
  legacy aic modules and tests.
- Replace lower_canonical_aic_timing and the neutral-default engine-arg
guards with main's lower_upstream_engine_args; the mocker now accepts
  those fields natively.
- Keep the Weka delegation: weka.rs stays removed, native replay keeps
  execution_model / weka_nested_timestamp_basis alongside ais_perf_config
and telemetry, and the runner keeps its agentic capabilities.
- Resolve the execution target model from canonical AIS identity as well
  as the upstream wire spelling.
- Drop duplicate struct fields introduced by the textual merge and
regenerate lockfiles (drops dynamo-data-gen from the mocker graph).

Approving at 12d8406055 (round 8). Both round-7 P1 findings are fixed at this head. The new P2 and P3 are open, and neither blocks.

Findings at this head:

  • [P2] new: components/src/dynamo/mocker/__init__.py:42. The public run_mocker_trace_replay wrapper can no longer replay weka, agentic_mooncake, or agentic Dynamo traces. It takes agentic_lanes but not execution_model, and run_trace_replay now requires execution_model for these traces. Please add execution_model to the wrapper and pass it through. The requirement came in d1e1e51976, not in this push, and earlier rounds missed this caller.
  • [P3] new: components/src/dynamo/replay/simulation.py:302. The two model sources that this merge adds have no test. The inline comment has the evidence.
  • [P1] closed: lib/bench/multiturn_bench.rs:587. This head takes that file from main (#15063), which sets cached_prefix_tokens: 0,.
  • [P1] closed: the warning filter, now at pyproject.toml:249. This head takes the line from main, and it is the text that we suggested. You applied the same text in 85eb3610a5. The evidence is on that thread.
  • [P2] closed: the docs pins. The three AISimulate pages now equal main, which names no version there.
  • [P3] closed: ai-dynamo/aisimulate#234. This PR no longer changes any AISimulate pin. Every pin equals main: aisimulate==0.13.0.dev202609270000000058 and aisimulate-core =0.13.0-dev.202609270000000058.
  • CI: Pre Merge passed on this head merged with main b4909a6413. At the time of this review, the PR workflow for this head, run 36639228400, was still running. The last successful PR workflow run was at c04a6db120. I did not run the GPU and image lanes myself.
The wrapper on this head and on main, in the CI test image.

I called dynamo.mocker.run_mocker_trace_replay with the same engine arguments on both trees. Each tree used a _core that I built from it.

case main this head

agentic_mooncake trace 2 requests completed ValueError: agentic execution requires a configured target model
agentic_mooncake trace, agentic_lanes=1 2 requests completed same ValueError
weka trace with one request 1 request completed same ValueError
lib/bench/testdata/pi_request_trace.jsonl.gz 17 requests completed same error, from the native loader

On this head, dynamo.replay.run_trace_replay(..., execution_model="target-model") replays the same agentic_mooncake and Weka traces. I added execution_model=None to the wrapper and passed it through to _run_trace_replay. Then the wrapper replayed the agentic_mooncake trace and the Dynamo trace, with 2 and 17 requests. test_dynamo_mocker_wrapper_returns_public_replay_report still passed with that change.

The last row shows that --all-targets does not build this bench, because the bench has required-features = ["multiturn"]. The Lint feature-gated benchmark entrypoints step of rust-clippy (.) builds it. That step passed on this head merged with main b4909a6413.

Tests at this head against main, on the GPU box.

"Main" is 7f7b533d9c, the main commit that this head merged. The Python runs used the image 1ff5387a05-trtllm-runtime-test with aisimulate==0.13.0.dev202609270000000058 and requirements.planner.txt. Each tree had a _core that I built from it. The cargo test row ran on the host.

selection main this head

cargo test -p dynamo-mocker --lib 221 passed 220 passed

Each lane run also had 13 collection errors from a missing redis in this image, on both trees. test_wait_for_unacknowledged_decision failed on both trees, in different copies: on main with a 15 s pytest timeout, and on this head because etcd did not start. On this head, test_dynamo_predict_cli_cases[02-synthetic-kv-router] failed once in the lane run. It printed its result, and then exited with 124 and aisimulate: execution shutdown timed out. AISimulate allows 5 s for that shutdown. I ran that test file again on each tree. It passed 19 of 19 in each of 3 serial runs and in 1 run with -n 4. Both connector test files passed on both trees, 20 of 20.

@dmitry-tokarev-nv Thanks for the approval. Round-8 follow-up at 4ab9318c18:

  • [P2] dynamo.mocker.run_mocker_trace_replay: the wrapper now takes execution_model=None and passes it to run_trace_replay. The new test_dynamo_mocker_wrapper_forwards_agentic_execution_model replays an agentic_mooncake trace through the wrapper with agentic_lanes=1 and checks that 2 requests complete, with target-model as the projection target. It fails when the passthrough line is removed. The inline agentic_mooncake fixture from test_online_trace_replay_supports_agentic_mooncake is now the shared _write_agentic_mooncake_trace helper.
  • [P3] model-source tests: details on the inline thread.

Validation (local x86_64, aisimulate==0.13.0.dev202609270000000058, _core built from this head with ais-forward-pass): components/src/dynamo/replay/tests + lib/bindings/python/tests/replay: 226 passed, 8 skipped (disagg online).

Approving at 4ab9318c18 (round 9). The new commit fixes the round-8 P2 and P3, and I found no new defect in it.

  • [P2] closed: components/src/dynamo/mocker/__init__.py:42. The wrapper now passes execution_model to run_trace_replay, and the new smoke test fails without that. The two added lines are the fix that I tested in round 8, so here I partly review my own suggestion.
  • [P3] closed: components/src/dynamo/replay/simulation.py:302. If I remove one model source, the new test case for that source fails. The evidence is on that thread, and I am resolving it.
  • Tests at this head: components/src/dynamo/replay/tests and lib/bindings/python/tests/replay gave 226 passed and 8 skipped in the CI test image, with a _core that I built from this head. The 8 skips are the disagg online cases.
  • CI: the PR workflow did not run on this head, because pull-request/14355 is still at 12d8406055. The new tests run in planner / CPU Test cpu, amd64 and in the amd64 sequential and parallel jobs of dynamo-runtime / test. These jobs passed at 12d8406055.
The public wrapper at this head, in the CI test image.

I called dynamo.mocker.run_mocker_trace_replay with the traces and engine arguments of round 8. The image was 1ff5387a05-trtllm-runtime-test on the GPU box, with aisimulate==0.13.0.dev202609270000000058 and a _core that I built from this head.

The four agentic cases report target-model as the projection target. Without execution_model, they still raise, because run_trace_replay requires a target model for agentic traces at this head. Round 8 measured the same four counts on main.

The new smoke test with the fix removed.

Approving at d083fdc9cd (round 10). This head holds the code that I approved in round 9, merged with main. I found no new defect.

GitHub moved my round-9 approval onto this commit before I read it. This review replaces that approval.

  • The force-push at 03:30Z changed no file. Each rewritten commit has the same tree as the commit that it replaces. The three older commits lost only the Co-Authored-By lines from their messages.
  • The merge has no hand edits. An automatic merge of 6e6f877780 and 2de120f6a3 on main gives the same tree, 0b925b82f2.
  • Your change did not move. It has the same 28 files and the same added and removed lines as at 4ab9318c18. main changed pyproject.toml and _core.pyi only in other lines.
  • #15202 changes Rust code in _core, so I needed a test run and not only a file comparison. CI ran the replay tests at 37025b7423, which has this tree, with a _core built from it. The result was 226 passed and 8 skipped, as in round 9. I did not run them myself in this round.
  • No thread is open. The author resolved the thread of PeaBrane on pyproject.toml. ai-dynamo/aisimulate#234 merged on 2026-09-29, and this PR changes no AISimulate pin, so nothing from that thread is left here.

For the Rust code, rust-clippy (.) passed, with its lock check and the lint of the feature-gated benchmarks. rust-tests (.) passed its unit tests, doc tests and canonical replay feature tests, and then the force-push cancelled it. rust-tests (lib/bindings/python) passed. When I posted, CI at d083fdc9cd was still running, for example rust-tests (.).
