Summary

Public AgentX replay needs explicit support boundaries and repeatable evidence through its Python and CLI entry points. This change qualifies aggregated vLLM/SGLang with HBM-only KV cache and speculative decoding disabled. Unsupported AgentX backend, offload, and speculation settings fail explicitly; ordinary Dynamo traces retain their existing behavior.

Default Python results retain agentic_qualification: functional_only, and CLI tables label functional replay. The qualification gate compares direct Weka input with freshly materialized Agentic Mooncake v2, repeated Python execution, and CLI stdout and saved artifacts. Progress goes to stderr; stdout remains JSON.

Review

  • Risk: medium. Review capability validation in runner.py, sweeper/replay.py, and crates/core/src/python.rs, then the native integration tests and scripts/qualify_agentx_m1.py.
  • Targets main, including merged feat(replay): stabilize deterministic agentic runtime contract #121 and feat(replay): report deterministic AgentX play outcomes #122. Conflict resolution preserves main's atomic feedback validation and deterministic play outcomes. Review fixes preserve local fixture block sizes and test standalone startup in a fresh process.
  • Client lane reuse waits for every request in the previous play to become terminal, including background children. Resource quiescence and play settlement remain separate.
  • Adds Python capability fields and default metadata; does not add native report schema fields. Generic native P/D conformance remains broader than public M1 qualification.

Validation

Validated head: 85474ec648bff15c7faa96307d928ede9ad1f373.

  • Full local Rust package: 1,383 passed, 1 existing ignore, including atomic feedback rejection and AgentX lifecycle tests.
  • Fresh native extension build and focused public Python/CLI tests: 52 passed.
  • Offline block-size-4 Weka fixture: 4 groups / 12 replays passed; both backend regressions failed before the fix.
  • Published-sample qualification: 4 groups / 12 replays passed, 129 completed requests per replay, with Python repeatability, Weka/v2 parity, and CLI artifact parity.
  • Rust formatting, Python lint/formatting, whitespace checks, and fresh Codex review passed. CodeRabbit completed its review of this head with no new actionable comments; all three review threads are resolved. Fast CI and Full CI passed on this exact head (53 successful Full CI jobs; expected staging skip).

Modeling and provenance

Fixed timing qualifies execution semantics, not prediction accuracy or AgentX benchmark fidelity. Public M1 qualification covers aggregated execution with one lane, starting at turn zero. Native causal terminal is a proxy for client response termination; HTTP/SSE delivery and client teardown are not modeled. Strict failed-play behavior does not establish full AIPerf error-policy parity.

The gate validates dataset semianalysisai/cc-traces-weka-062126-256k at revision 8fecd2fc56694469f758f0afbbb6335ad3043740, then executes play 002001296e8a8c38ad9d7cc436d691afc602. Source and graph digests are checked and recorded; downloaded rows and materialized derivatives remain temporary.

Implements the AISimulate portion of AIC-1815. Dynamo #14355 still needs matching AISimulate artifacts and graph/lifecycle parity evidence before the cross-repository M1 milestone is complete. Its factory must declare the new AgentX capability fields and add rejection tests alongside that dependency upgrade; the replay guide records this requirement.

Linked repositories findings

ai-dynamo/dynamo

  • DynamoReplayRunnerFactory.capabilities() on the branch of open PR #14355 does not populate the new RunnerCapabilities fields for supported agentic backends, host offload, or speculative decoding. It therefore inherits permissive defaults rather than explicitly advertising the AgentX boundary (vllm/sglang, HBM-only, no speculation). [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::] components/src/dynamo/replay/simulation.py:63-87

  • The inspected branch pins both Python and Rust AISimulate dependencies to revision d71203e489541bc98c5f4a616dcec3b225b8fb72. A consuming Dynamo release must update this coordinated pin to receive the new validation and capability contract. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::] pyproject.toml:16-18,116-118; Cargo.toml:60

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

  • No direct AgentX or replay-runner consumers were found. The repository identifies itself as maintenance-only and directs new development and integrations to AISimulate. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::] README.md:8-16

📝 Summary

Risk and review focus

Risk level: medium. Human review should focus on:

  1. Agentic compatibility limits across Python, CLI, and Rust paths.
  2. Qualification equivalence for Weka and materialized Agentic Mooncake v2.
  3. CLI and report contracts, including metadata, stderr progress, and JSON stdout.

Changed behavior and contracts

  • Agentic workloads now accept only vLLM and SGLang.
  • Host KV-cache offload and speculative decoding are rejected.
  • RunnerCapabilities exposes these support limits.
  • Python and CLI reports preserve qualification metadata.
  • CLI output identifies functional replay. Progress uses stderr.
  • qualify_agentx_m1.py adds repeatability, CLI parity, and artifact-parity checks.
  • qualify_weka can atomically materialize imported JSONL without overwriting the destination.
  • Qualification remains functional-only. It excludes prediction accuracy, warmup, profiling, and full AgentX benchmark fidelity.

Evidence supplied

  • The inspected repository has no uncommitted changes.
  • Recent commits include the AgentX feedback merge and fixes for deterministic outcomes, qualification block size, and standalone startup.
  • Full local Rust validation passed 1,383 tests, with one ignored test.
  • Earlier focused validation passed 50 Python/CLI tests and 9 Rust tests.
  • Twelve published-sample replays passed, with 129 requests per replay.
  • Tests cover backend restrictions, Weka loading, materialized replay, deterministic lifecycle behavior, lane reuse, CLI/Python parity, and artifact checks.

Evidence still missing

  • Current review-finding severity counts were not supplied.
  • The automated review is not approval. A confirmed review of the latest revision was not supplied.
  • Current full-CI status was not supplied.

Merge readiness

Technical evidence supports the described behavior. Merge readiness remains conditional on human review of the three focus areas and confirmation of current CI status.

Walkthrough

Adds AgentX M1 qualification support across Rust and Python replay paths. The changes validate supported agentic configurations, materialize Weka inputs, verify deterministic replay evidence, compare CLI and Python reports, and document functional-only qualification.

Full details: Cross-Layer Contract

Explanation

The main Rust/Python/CLI contract is connected, but the new qualification entry point has an untested orchestration path. scripts/qualify_agentx_m1.py adds run_cli, run_gate, and main; repository searches find only their definitions and production calls. The changed tests exercise prediction_config, run_python, and evidence, while separate tests exercise the underlying Python runner and CLI. No test invokes the gate matrix, its cargo materialization step, CLI artifact comparison, or the script entry point. The new qualify_weka argument parser and actual --materialize command path are also not invoked by a test; its unit test calls qualify directly. This leaves the documented public qualification path without repository evidence.

Resolution

Add deterministic tests for the new public paths. Invoke qualify_agentx_m1.py --trace with a local fixture, or isolate run_gate with injected subprocess results, and assert all four matrix groups, three runs per group, graph/lifecycle parity, CLI stdout versus saved report, request artifacts, stderr progress, and JSON stdout. Add failure-path tests for subprocess and validation errors. Add an integration test for qualify_weka <source> --materialize <destination> that covers argument parsing, output reload, and no-clobber behavior.

Reviewed 4ea261c626d46da02d7fb7a7f69cf60c54d14e47: no actionable correctness defect found in the M1 qualification patch. Fresh local validation passed 50 focused Python/CLI tests, 9 Rust tests, and all 12 published-sample replays (129 requests each).

After #122 merged, this PR targets main and has conflicts in crates/core/src/replay/README.md and crates/core/src/replay/loadgen/driver.rs. I am resolving those while preserving main's atomic feedback validation from #121 and #122's deterministic outcomes, then rebuilding and validating the updated head. CodeRabbit's existing success status represents a skipped review, so a substantive review is also needed before closeout.

Please review current head 3b1063f against main. The previous status was a skipped review. Both merge conflicts are resolved, the public M1 patch is unchanged, and main’s atomic feedback validation and regression tests are preserved. Full local Rust validation passed: 1,383 tests and one existing ignore.

Linked repositories findings

ai-dynamo/dynamo

  • Capability contract mismatch: On the branch of open PR #14355 (e205c8d), DynamoReplayRunnerFactory.capabilities() does not populate the newly added RunnerCapabilities fields for supported agentic backends, host offload, or speculative decoding. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::] components/src/dynamo/replay/simulation.py:66-86
The factory therefore relies on the new fields’ permissive defaults instead of advertising the AgentX boundary (vllm/sglang only, no host offload, no speculation). This downstream factory should explicitly set those fields.

  • Version coupling: The same branch pins both Python and Rust AISimulate dependencies to revision d71203e489541bc98c5f4a616dcec3b225b8fb72. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::] pyproject.toml:20,111, Cargo.toml:60
Any release consuming these new capability fields must update this coordinated pin or ensure that revision contains the contract changes.

  • Existing AgentX-related fixtures use aggregated vLLM, matching the intended supported topology. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::] components/src/dynamo/replay/tests/e2e/configs/unified_cli/predict/dynamo/11-trace-agentic-mooncake.yaml:7-20

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

  • No AgentX or replay-runner consumers were found. The repository explicitly directs new development and integrations to AISimulate. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::] README.md:10-16

Reviewed 85474ec648bff15c7faa96307d928ede9ad1f373 against current main 76d304aff8c4ab444b2ad36b444bc070d3028ddf.

Merge conflicts are resolved while preserving atomic feedback validation and deterministic play outcomes. The qualification gate now preserves local fixture block sizes, with regressions that failed before the fix, and standalone startup is checked in a fresh process before any AISimulate import. The Dynamo factory/dependency upgrade requirement is explicitly documented and remains part of downstream qualification.

Validation: 1,383 Rust tests passed (one existing ignore); 52 focused Python/CLI tests passed; both published-sample and local block-size-4 qualification matrices passed all 12 replays. CodeRabbit completed current-head review with no new actionable findings, and all three threads are resolved. Fast CI and Full CI passed on this head; Full CI has 53 successful jobs and the expected staging skip.

No remaining actionable issue found in the final review. Approved for the scoped AISimulate functional M1 qualification.
