Current CI repair — 2026-09-18

Head da60013b4a61d20ddd3a076f79822925d69f1c7b includes SOL repair da60013b. The previous full CI failures had two causes: the memory-test model double lacked the new KV batch-capacity interface, and EPD compared explicit database_mode=SILICON against the equivalent omitted default in legacy descriptors. The test double now implements the interface, and EPD compares resolved defaults while continuing to reject different policies. Regression tests cover aggregated and disaggregated execution.

Validation: all 167 tests in the two affected files pass; all 6,878 unit/golden tests pass (12 skipped); compatibility/public API tests pass (151). The complete repository contract suite, rerun with the additional dependencies explicitly installed by CI, passes all 2,030 tests (5 skipped) and 132 subtests. Dependency compatibility, Ruff and formatting checks pass. New-head Full CI has started and is not yet complete. No thresholds were relaxed. Data and HF pins are unchanged.

Previous rebase validation — 2026-09-18

Head: 3213af70d14968a191c1ad0f62b1b29c09fe0563. Rebased onto main 8e763d4edfd8555240157c2794aa61a27d73b8f8, preserving the SOL → OP → B300 stack and adapting the consolidated Python package names and canonical estimator configuration. 1,496 Rust tests passed (1 ignored); 170 application/replay tests and 125 cross-package tests passed; source/package license checks, documentation links, Ruff and formatting passed.

Fast CI passed on this head; Full CI remains queued/running. The prior 336 B200/B300 SGLang 0.5.14 MLA DATA_MISS coordinates now pass 336/336 locally on the rebased SOL baseline; all 16 numerical sentinels pass. This bounded recheck does not substitute for the complete CI gate.; previous CI links and MAPE/replay results below are historical evidence for their explicitly recorded revisions, not validation of this head. No measurement recollection or new accuracy qualification is claimed.

Summary

Defines the DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash text architecture, SOL cost model, memory layout, and full/bounded decoder execution contract. Provides the shared foundation for FPM (#158) and SILICON (#160).

Why and what changed

Historical review and collection status — 2026-09-17

Current head: 40fdb603. Resolved the conflict with main 920453e6, preserving DSV4.1 scheduler-inclusive to past-KV decode conversion alongside the new phase/power evidence path. Native attention roles are validated before queries and zero-work returns; unsupported V4.1 AFD is rejected before partition/search. Full Rust library validation: 1,416 passed, 1 ignored. Rust formatting and packaged legal-file checks passed. Fresh-native prediction replay is complete; exact-head Full CI passed; previous-head CI evidence remains historical. All three parent repair branches have passed exact-head Full CI. Follow-up work in draft data PRs #232/#233 now resumes separately, with existing jobs monitored. This is not merge approval. A follow-up fixture fix makes the synthetic AFD phase tests resolve their local model architecture instead of accessing Hugging Face: all 28 phase tests and both V4.1 rejection cases pass; production source/native/data bytes are unchanged by this test-only follow-up.

Validation refresh — 2026-09-17

Fresh native validation passed: 1,416 Rust tests (1 ignored), 383 engine-step/compile-engine parity cases, 28 AFD phase tests and 2 V4.1 AFD rejection cases. Replayed all 81,901 archived SOL forward rows plus GB200/GB300 recoverable HTTP populations; predictions, failure statuses, coverage and MAPE are unchanged. Follow-ups correct test fixtures, the B200 power regression expectation and an unclosed JSON file in nightly license evidence. All 216 tests in the three affected files pass with warnings treated as errors on this branch. A control native build reverting only decode past-KV conversion exactly reproduces the old power snapshot; the corrected expectation is 655.957349601573 W with coverage 0.907023184956731. Production model/runtime source, native binaries and measurement data remain byte-identical to the replayed trees. Exact-head Full CI passed on 40fdb603 (run 35196039622); 54 executed jobs passed; the workflow-conditioned staging job was skipped. The MAPE tables below are retained with these unchanged inputs and coverage limits; no new GPU measurement or new blind test set is claimed.

DeepSeek-V4.1 needs an explicit text model graph, decoder execution profile and memory inventory. This PR adds CSA2/Engram/mHC SOL operators, shared KV/index ownership, full and bounded-decoder execution, and the native/Python configuration contract used by #158 and #160. Index scoring covers the full compressed context; the pinned SGLang path uses physical 584-byte main/SWA and 68-byte index entries.

The final diff removes all campaign files under data/experimental/deepseek-v41, along with experiment-only acceptance checks and ownership entries. Product tests use small, explicitly synthetic inputs. No campaign artifacts were added to the packaged systems database. Frozen originals remain accessible at the pre-cleanup commits linked below.

Review map

  • Risk level: high (modeling and cross-language contracts).
  • Start with: sdk/models/deepseek_v41.py and sdk/deepseek_v41.py define the model/storage contract; perfmodel/operators/dsv41.rs prices it; perfmodel/engine/spec.rs and sdk/engine.py carry the wire contract. See docs/deepseek-v41.md and docs/deepseek-v41-storage.md.
  • Public or serialized contract changed: Schema 19, decoder replay identity and backend-specific KV layout. Native extensions must be rebuilt; legacy positional binaries are rejected.
  • Compatibility or rollback concern: Text-only, DP=PP=CP=1 and supported TP/MoE layouts. Physical payload excludes allocator overhead; unverified backend storage remains theoretical.
  • Scope after cleanup: 68 changed files; zero experimental files in this PR's diff.

Review fixes

  • Failed bounded-prefill admission/pricing restores the waiting queue, continuation progress and leases, KV/cache metadata and prebuilt promotions. Cache events and admission callbacks publish after validation/pricing succeeds. Retries preserve the synchronized-prefill interval.
  • Native full attention rejects zero compression before arithmetic, including zero-work calls. Tests require exactly two Qwen dispatches and the specific native ValueError.
  • Target weight residency retains MXFP4 expert scales with Ngram or owned draft models, adds drafts once, and remains consistent through the FPM rewrite. The legacy FPM schema rejects bounded replay before mutating the graph; feat: add DeepSeek V4.1 FPM identity and Slurm collection #158's execution-profile-aware schema remains supported.
  • Integrated main a26b5018 and resolved the runner test conflict while retaining both sets of assertions. Four G3 test expectations now derive arrival + transfer + zero fixed decode; the intentional absence of a 1 ms floor is preserved.

The admission checkpoint copies cache/allocator metadata only for providers whose validation can fail; ordinary fixed/polynomial and unrestricted AIC timing avoid that copy. This adds CPU/memory cost to bounded replay. A local synthetic checkpoint microbenchmark observed approximately 8.5–134.5 microseconds across 4,096–32,768-page cases; it excludes waiting-lease snapshots/provider time and is not a GPU or end-to-end performance claim. This fix covers the admission validation/prefill-pricing boundary, not every later scheduler error.

Evidence

  • At 51abfa7f: 1,357 Rust library tests passed, one ignored, plus 13 embedded-Python timing tests, 271 SDK/model/backend/speculation/native tests, and 92 application runner tests. New rollback, malformed-native and residency regressions reproduce the old defects before the fixes.
  • Fast CI passed and CODEOWNERS passed on this exact head. Repository policy, Python static checks and Rust format executed successfully; DCO passed.
  • Local Ruff/format, copyright, legal mirrors, strict ownership, generated-file drift and whitespace checks passed. The 105 ownership-policy tests passed. Full CI was not rerun.
  • Review findings were independently checked against source and targeted CPU reproductions. Human review remains requested; previous reviews are not approvals of this head.

Full CI follow-up, 2026-09-16

Child data PRs #232/#233 ran Full CI and exposed stale inherited test expectations. At de45ee5a, The public engine signature test now includes the existing decoder_replay=False parameter. 30 public-contract tests passed. Production predictor, Collector and existing data bytes are unchanged from 51abfa7f; the numerical replay below remains valid for those identical inputs. New CI is pending; the earlier failed Full CI is not reported as passing. Data collection remains isolated in the draft child PRs.

Modeling or data provenance

The tables below were recomputed on 2026-09-16 after the review fixes and main integration, using freshly rebuilt native extensions and the unchanged archived inputs. Every supported timing, metric, failure status and coverage count matches the previous refresh. This was CPU prediction replay: no new GPU collection, fitting, scaling, selective observation removal or calibration admission.

SILICON ran at preceding merge b197223a; final fa74f5ba changes only a test import blank line, with predictor/native bytes verified identical. FPM's binary was built at 9000753f; subsequent changes affect Collector/tests only, with all native/SDK predictor inputs verified unchanged. Original input hashes and new source/native identities are retained with the replay receipts outside these PRs.

Fresh coverage audit: SOL retains 81,901 forward records (81,789 actual native calls plus 112 unqualified/unmatched records). SILICON makes 69,298 native calls, including 38 typed GB200 missing-coverage probes. FPM's nine replay jobs reproduce all 81,699 native rows, 18,180 HTTP metric rows, 130 configuration rows and 72 diagnostic rows, including unavailable records. These counts use different export units and must not be summed as independent samples. GB300 HTTP actually replays 1,860 recovered specs per method from 2,100 original cohorts; strict SILICON supports 1,820 and SOL/FPM 1,860. SOL/FPM also rerun all 450 original GB200 HTTP cohorts.

Qualification limits: these TP4 measurements retain their original precision/runtime identities. The historical GB200 126-point FPM table remains unadmitted for reusable serving prediction; replaying it here is a diagnostic, and its approximately 5x discrepancy still needs paired same-input/runtime evidence. GB300 MAPE is development validation, not a blind final test. Missing HTTP inputs, output equivalence, allocation overhead and runtime precision qualifications remain unresolved.

2026-09-16 MAPE tables, coverage and validation populations

GB300 native-forward MAPE

MAPE is 100 × mean(abs(predicted-observed)/observed) over supported pairs; WAPE weights their observed magnitudes. Original interval/cohort counts remain the coverage denominator; unsupported records are retained and excluded from numerical MAPE, never counted as zero error. Shared observed values and geometry were independently joined across methods.

Decoder Method MAPE WAPE Supported / original intervals
OFF SOL 99.3505% 99.3067% 15,756/15,756
OFF SILICON 13.1297% 13.6938% 14,476/15,756

ON service 3,468/3,504 99.4414% 3.2848% 1.0313%

ON retains all multiple-prefill representation failures, including the original 100 heterogeneous core cases. Strict SILICON also retains missing measured-op coverage. Different support populations are reported separately; lower aggregate error on fewer supported rows is not an accuracy improvement. Native intervals are correlated, not independent model lifecycles.

GB300 46-point forward validation

Decoder SOL MAPE (coverage) SILICON MAPE (coverage) FPM MAPE (coverage)
OFF 96.1291% (46/46) 7.3679% (46/46) 3.2423% (45/46)
ON 96.8764% (30/46) 6.8538% (30/46) 7.4274% (29/46)

Observations are medians of ten repetitions of TP-rank maxima. One coordinate per profile overlaps FPM calibration (B1 prefill, 64 current / 256 past-KV tokens), so this is forward validation, not a newly independent FPM geometry holdout. ON retains 16 representation failures; FPM additionally retains its B2 / past-KV 3840 missing-domain case. No validation point was added to calibration.

GB300 core HTTP, recovered cold subset

Decoder Method TTFT MAPE Mean TPOT MAPE Finite-cohort throughput MAPE Supported / original cohorts

ON FPM 42.0729% 3.7009% 8.5979% 1,300/1,500

Every recovered input closes to its original SILICON ReplaySpec hash before replacing the timing provider. Original token IDs, arrivals, scheduler and topology are retained. OFF has 560/600 complete specifications; ON has 1300/1500. Forty OFF and 100 ON prefix-seed cohorts lack original seed submission times; another 100 ON lack complete request metadata. Forty OFF recovered workloads additionally miss strict SILICON coverage. All four field/service HTTP populations retain 120 observations each and zero fresh predictions because their token-bearing plans remain unavailable. No historical prediction supplies a missing input.

Current SGLang replay emits the first token at final prefill completion. Cache disagreements remain: SOL/FPM each retain 40/560 OFF and 102/1300 ON; SILICON retains 40/520 OFF and 102/1300 ON. Free-output differences are retained. Throughput measures finite-cohort completion, not saturated capacity. Raw GB300 trace re-admission and full HTTP recovery remain incomplete; old lifecycle confidence intervals are not transferred to changed subsets.

GB200 and the second-cluster diagnostic

Study SOL MAPE FPM MAPE Coverage
Independent 38-point geometry holdout 99.1204% 4.8942% 38/38 each
Ordinary native intervals 99.2273% 432.3291% 12531/12531 each
DL native diagnostic 96.6351% 431.4790% 30/30 each
DL ordinary diagnostic 96.6880% 430.8405% 20/30 each
GB200 ordinary HTTP TTFT MAPE Mean TPOT MAPE Finite-cohort throughput MAPE Cohorts
SOL 94.0700% 99.5751% 12470.8689% 450/450
FPM 838.9658% 435.9172% 82.2571% 450/450

GB200 FPM uses only the unchanged 126-point GB200 table, never GB300 FPM calibration. Strict op-level SILICON actually ran 38 GB200 probes and preserves all typed missing-OneCCL errors for this overlay; this is not a universal assertion that GB200 lacks measured data. FPM whole-forward mode is not the strict op-level baseline.

The DL diagnostic repeats six existing coordinates with five correlated repetitions. Ten ordinary targets remain unmatched; six warmups per arm remain excluded and separately retained. Five measured output differences remain. Model MAPE is distinct from the earlier 0.8787% benchmark-versus-ordinary observed timing APE. The historical high calibration regime was not reproduced, but unmatched historical prompt tokens and differing driver/kernel/board/autotune evidence prevent attributing it to a cluster or timer cause. No correction factor or new admission was applied.

Calibration and validation separation

FPM uses fixed timing tables: GB200 has 126 points and GB300 has 142 points per Decoder profile (124 original plus 18 extension). Exact self-queries are integrity checks, not accuracy. GB300 calibration and verification observations have disjoint run and dispatch identities, but initial verification coverage gaps informed the extension geometry and the verification population was reused. GB300 MAPE is development-validation evidence, not a blind final-test estimate. Extension selection was by missing geometry, not error magnitude or fastest samples. See the original disclosure.

The GB200 38-point holdout has no exact calibration-coordinate overlap and distinct attempts/artifacts. The DL study instead deliberately repeats calibration coordinates in another environment. Previously checked heldout-target perturbations leave predictions unchanged; no online fit or observed-latency correction is enabled.

🔀 Multi-repo context ai-dynamo/dynamo, ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

ai-dynamo/dynamo

  • The repository has no current references to DeepSeekV41, DEEPSEEKV41, or decoder_replay; no direct consumer call sites were found. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
  • AISimulate remains pinned to 0.12.0.dev2 in pyproject.toml:17, Cargo.toml:59, and container/deps/requirements.aisimulate.txt:5. Deploying this PR therefore requires a coordinated AISimulate release and pin update. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
  • Existing integration uses only AicEngine::prefill_latency_ms and decode_latency_ms in lib/bindings/python/rust/llm/aic_callback.rs:51-63; those callback methods are unchanged by the PR. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

  • The frozen compatibility implementation is version 0.12.0 in pyproject.toml:6, aic-core/pyproject.toml:6, and aic-core/rust/aiconfigurator-core/Cargo.toml:6. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]
  • It hard-codes ENGINE_SPEC_SCHEMA_VERSION = 15 in aic-core/rust/aiconfigurator-core/src/config.rs:72 and asserts 15 in aic-core/rust/tests/public-api/src/lib.rs:85; it cannot consume this PR’s schema-19 payloads. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]
  • Its API contract requires the Python wheel and Rust crate to move in lockstep and rejects unsupported schema versions (aic-core/API.md:233-248). [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]

📝 Summary

Risk: High

Three areas need human attention:

  1. DeepSeek-V4.1 execution and performance modeling

    • Review CSA2, Engram, mHC, mixed prefill/decode composition, and bounded decoder_replay.
    • Verify SOL behavior and SILICON/EMPIRICAL rejection paths.
  2. Memory and KV-cache accounting

    • Verify physical SGLang storage, KV ownership, capacity calculations, traffic accounting, and target residency.
    • Confirm qualification boundaries for theoretical FP4 and unverified backend layouts.
  3. Serialized and public contracts

    • Review schema 19, decoder_replay, DSV4.1 operators, fp32_flops, Python APIs, and cache identity.
    • Confirm rejection behavior for stale schemas, invalid geometry, unsupported replay, and AFD tasks.

Changed behavior and contracts

  • Added DeepSeek-V4.1 registration, configuration parsing, execution graphs, MoE handling, and KV-cache modeling.
  • Added CSA2, Engram, mHC, shared ownership, full and bounded execution profiles, and analytical operators.
  • Propagated decoder_replay through Rust, Python, CLI, timing, compilation, serialization, and cache identity.
  • Added prefill validation with admission rollback.
  • Increased the engine schema version from 18 to 19.
  • Updated residency and activation-memory accounting.
  • Added DeepSeek-V4.1 AFD rejection and malformed-role validation.
  • Documented physical storage assumptions and backend qualification limits.

Evidence supplied

  • The author reports fixes for inherited SOL findings, replay mutation, admission rollback, synchronized-prefill retries, zero-compression handling, target residency, and G3 timing.
  • Reported validation includes 1,357 Rust library tests, 13 embedded-Python timing tests, 271 SDK/model/backend/speculation/native tests, and 92 application runner tests.
  • Fast CI and CODEOWNERS reportedly passed.
  • Tests cover serialization, replay, memory, rollback, cache identity, CLI behavior, AFD rejection, and native bridge behavior.
  • The requested repository status and diff command completed successfully, but its captured output contains no status or diff details. It does not independently verify the change set or test results.

Evidence still missing

  • Current review findings and severity counts.
  • Independent validation of roofline, memory, traffic, allocator, and cache semantics.
  • Runtime validation on supported production backends.
  • Replay and mixed-workload output equivalence.
  • Evidence for vision, DSpark, encoder-cache recovery, host Engram, DP/PP ownership, and alternative fused expert layouts.

Technical quality and merge readiness

The implementation has targeted regression coverage and reported fixes for several high-risk paths. The supplied evidence does not establish correctness across all runtime, allocation, and production-backend behaviors.

Merge readiness is not established.

Walkthrough

DeepSeek-V4.1 support was added across Rust performance modeling, Python model construction, decoder-replay configuration, runtime validation, serialization, documentation, and regression tests.

Full details: Cross-Layer Contract

Explanation

The cross-layer contract is incomplete for the new public Rust builder input. The PR adds AicEngineBuilder::decoder_replay(bool) in crates/core/src/perfmodel/py.rs:1095 and forwards request.decoder_replay to Python at line 1369. The builder tests cover defaults and other explicit options, but no test calls .decoder_replay(true) or verifies the builder request or built-engine path. The existing V4.1 bridge tests exercise Python EngineHandle.compile, not AicEngineBuilder. Documentation also lists the other AicEngineBuilder options in docs/core-api.md but omits .decoder_replay(...); the V4.1 page documents ModelConfig and compile_engine, not the Rust builder or the new top-level prediction configuration fields.

Resolution

Add a Rust builder contract test that calls AicEngineBuilder::new(...).decoder_replay(true) and verifies the request value, plus an integration-level forwarding assertion through the shared Rust-to-Python compile path. Update docs/core-api.md to document .decoder_replay(...), its default false, and its SGLang-only V4.1 restriction. Document the corresponding EnginePredictionConfig YAML/CLI fields and defaults in the public CLI configuration guide.

Full details: Compatibility Boundaries

Explanation

The Rust schema is 19 at the reviewed head, and the Python binding reads the same native value. However, the packaged SDK documentation still states that the operation schema is version 18 at python/aisimulate/src/aiconfigurator_core/sdk/speculation/README.md:66. That file is unchanged by the PR, while the PR changes ENGINE_SPEC_SCHEMA_VERSION from 18 to 19 and adds documentation that correctly refers to schema 19. The stale statement therefore becomes a Python/Rust version-documentation mismatch. The one-wheel/one-crate manifests and legal-file mirrors remain unchanged and consistent, and no new Dynamo dependency is introduced.

Resolution

Update python/aisimulate/src/aiconfigurator_core/sdk/speculation/README.md:66 to state operation schema version 19. Keep the documentation in the packaged SDK tree synchronized with ENGINE_SPEC_SCHEMA_VERSION, then rerun the cross-package version and artifact-contract checks.

Linked repositories findings

ai-dynamo/dynamo

  • The Dynamo runtime consumes aisimulate==0.1.0.dev2 [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::], while its AIC estimator calls model construction and performance APIs rather than compile_engine directly (components/src/dynamo/planner/monitoring/aic_estimator.py:37-50,85-90). Release/version coordination is needed for the new V4.1 APIs.
  • Existing V4.1 recipes use the exact model ID deepseek-ai/DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash, SGLang, TP4/EP4, and FP8 KV semantics (recipes/deepseek-v4.1-flash/sglang/agg-gb200/deploy.yaml:15-24; docs/fern/pages/recipes/model-recipes/deepseek-v4-1-flash.mdx:12,49). This aligns with the PR’s SGLang KV-layout and MoE contracts.
  • Both recipe manifests explicitly disable forward-pass metric publishing because this model currently crashes on null seq_lens_cpu (recipes/deepseek-v4.1-flash/sglang/agg-gb200/deploy.yaml:108-112; recipes/deepseek-v4.1-flash/sglang/disagg-gb200/kustomize/base/deploy.yaml:179-182). Thus these deployments will not exercise the PR’s forward-pass telemetry/validation path.

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

  • The frozen compatibility reference currently pins aiconfigurator and aiconfigurator-core at 0.12.0 (pyproject.toml:4-6,43) and exposes a compile_engine signature without decoder_replay (aic-core/src/aiconfigurator_core/sdk/engine.py:358-386; tests/cross_package/test_core_public_api.py:66-78). The new optional argument therefore requires the newer AISimulate/core package rather than this legacy reference.
  • The reference Rust/Python engine schema is currently version 15 (aic-core/rust/aiconfigurator-core/src/config.rs:72; tests/unit/sdk/database/test_attention_lanes.py:250), confirming that the PR’s schema-19 change is a producer/consumer wire boundary requiring synchronized artifacts.
  • Legacy aiconfigurator.sdk.models delegates to aiconfigurator_core.sdk.models, and individual model modules follow explicit compatibility-alias files (src/aiconfigurator/sdk/models/__init__.py; src/aiconfigurator/sdk/models/deepseek_v4.py). The PR’s new V4.1 alias modules should preserve this same migration-layer import behavior.

8-8: 🩺 Stability & Availability

The GpuSpec.fp32_flops field is declared as Option<f64> with #[serde(default)] in crates/core/src/perfmodel/common/system_spec.rs. Missing fp32_flops keys therefore deserialize as None; the other system YAML files do not fail to load for this reason.

python/aisimulate/src/aiconfigurator_core/sdk/models/deepseek_v41.py (1)

89-89: 🎯 Functional Correctness

The claim is refuted by aiconfigurator_core.sdk.deepseek_v41.resolve_execution_profile: when decoder_replay is True for any backend other than sglang, it raises NotImplementedError instead of downgrading to "full". For sglang, the resolved profile and the raw model_config.decoder_replay value agree. The cited divergence cannot occur, so deriving stage fields from the resolved profile is unnecessary.

python/aisimulate/src/aiconfigurator_core/sdk/backends/trtllm_backend.py (1)

52-52: 🎯 Functional Correctness

The concern is refuted. BaseBackend._get_memory_usage() sets h to _num_heads * _head_size, and TRTLLMBackend._moe_workspace_width() returns h for DEEPSEEKV41. The V4.1 test expects the TRT-LLM workspace width to be 64 * 512, not the residual width 5120.

The two inherited SOL P1 findings from the maintainer review on #158 are addressed in 7349aaf4, included in this PR's published head 71343738bace213caa7d6966b21c287af03ac37f:

  • Index scoring uses the full compressed context before candidate masking. Decode and prefixed-prefill tests cover 16,384, 16,385 and 131,072 tokens, including explicit FLOP/traffic deltas.
  • The pinned SGLang path uses physical 584-byte main/SWA and 68-byte index entries for capacity and traffic, with shared owners and publication boundaries preserved. Tests check 206.625 MiB at 131,072 tokens and the capacity inverse. The theoretical packed-FP4 layout and unverified backends remain explicit; page allocation overhead is not qualified.
  • Schema 19 and its public contract were updated in dd43dd3b. The published SOL report contains actual rerun predictions with unchanged observations.

Validation completed: 692 Rust tests (one ignored), 483 Python/parity tests, 4 standalone API tests and 11 portable-report tests; actual Fast CI and CODEOWNERS passed. The revised MAPE and coverage are in the PR body.

The five automated inline findings posted at 22:39 UTC are newer than this repair/validation round. They are not covered by the fixes above and remain open; Ready for review does not mean all current findings are resolved.

Removed the experimental report bundle from the final diff in 3be7f146, including its dedicated CODEOWNERS entries. This PR is now 62 files instead of 102, with no data/experimental/deepseek-v41 files or added binary reports.

The frozen evidence remains accessible with its provenance and notices. Predictor/runtime code is unchanged; 76 product tests and actual Fast CI passed. The shortened PR body keeps the complete current MAPE tables and qualifications while removing repeated historical reports. The newer SOL findings remain open.

The generic forward_model='fpm' rewrite permits DeepSeek-V4.1 decoder_replay=True but replaces the staged graph with FPMForwardOps, so the runtime FPM path bypasses the bounded replay tail and prices the full extend. Reject this unsupported combination or preserve the replay transform in the FPM path.

Linked repositories findings

ai-dynamo/dynamo

  • Dynamo’s dependency test requires Python, container, and all Rust lockfiles to use one exact matching AISimulate release (tests/dependencies/test_aisimulate_consistency.py:77-125). Current pins are 0.12.0.dev1/0.12.0-dev.1 (pyproject.toml:17; Cargo.toml:58-59; container/deps/requirements.aisimulate.txt:5). The new schema-19/V4.1 contracts therefore require coordinated AISimulate artifact publication and Dynamo pin updates. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
  • Dynamo’s Rust AIC callback invokes the compiled engine’s prefill/decode latency APIs (lib/bindings/python/rust/llm/aic_callback.rs:27-30,42-75), so the new runtime must preserve those methods and their wire-format compatibility. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
  • The V4.1 recipe explicitly disables the forward-pass publisher because SGLang crashes on null seq_lens_cpu (recipes/deepseek-v4.1-flash/sglang/agg-gb200/deploy.yaml:101-105; recipes/deepseek-v4.1-flash/sglang/disagg-gb200/kustomize/base/deploy.yaml:175-182). Consequently, the PR’s forward-pass telemetry and prefill-validation behavior is not exercised by these deployments. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

  • AIConfigurator is maintenance-only and directs new model coverage and active development to AISimulate (README.md:10-14; aic-core/rust/aiconfigurator-core/README.md:4-7). No corresponding V4.1 implementation should be expected in this repository. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]
  • Its migration guide requires stable aisimulate==0.12.0 publication before migration and warns against using development builds (docs/aisimulate_migration.md:9-18). This reinforces that consumers need a deliberate release transition for the PR’s new APIs. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]
  • The compatibility core uses schema version 15 and a frozen compile_engine signature without decoder_replay (aic-core/rust/aiconfigurator-core/src/config.rs:72; tests/cross_package/test_core_public_api.py:66-75). It cannot be treated as a schema-19 decoder or as a consumer of the new replay option. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]

Rechecked current head 3be7f146d50466493f328a0a5a9e0b25fc5d14b1 as the base of #160 and #158. Request changes: the following three previously reported correctness issues remain in this head. I am linking the existing discussions instead of creating duplicate inline findings.

  1. [P1] Preserve scheduler state when prefill validation fails. At crates/core/src/engine/scheduler/sglang/core.rs:715-720, get_new_batch_prefill has already removed requests from waiting, allocated/extended their leases, and updated materialized state; on_admit has also been emitted. The new validate_prefill_batch(...)? can return before admit.can_run is moved to waiting/running, with no rollback. A rejected heterogeneous/chunk batch therefore loses admitted requests from the scheduler queues. Validate before committing admission or roll back queues, leases, materialized state and trace events; add a failed-pass/retry regression including continuations. Existing discussion.

  2. [P1] Retain complete target residency with Ngram/non-MTP speculation. At python/aisimulate/src/aiconfigurator_core/sdk/backends/base_backend.py:2164-2171, the draft-scheme branch sums context_ops instead of the V4.1 resident inventory, dropping the MXFP4 expert scale bytes stored outside those ops. NgramScheme triggers this despite owning zero draft weights. For pure TP4 the missing amount is 40 * 3 * 5120 * 2304 * 384 / 4 / 32 = 4,246,732,800 bytes/rank, overstating available KV capacity. A CPU source-slice probe with the actual NullScheme/NgramScheme classes reproduces this exact delta; its absolute inventory totals were controlled fixtures, not GPU measurements. Preserve complete target residency and account for scheme-owned draft inventory separately. Existing discussion.

  3. [P2] Reject full attention with zero compression at the native boundary. At crates/core/src/perfmodel/operators/dsv41.rs:225-231, a directly deserialized role="full", compress_ratio=0 with positive work reaches division by zero and infinity subtraction in produced. Normal Python construction maps ratio zero to SWA, but the serialized/native boundary does not enforce that invariant. Reject incompatible role/ratio combinations before pricing and cover malformed serialized ops. Existing discussion.

Verification scope: current-head source/control-flow review and the isolated CPU memory-branch probe. No native rebuild, full Rust suite, or GPU execution was performed. This review does not reopen the earlier full-context scoring or physical-KV-layout findings that were fixed.

Review fixes are pushed in 51abfa7f and the five inline findings have individual replies. The additional outside-diff FPM finding is addressed by rejecting bounded replay before graph mutation when the legacy FPM schema cannot identify the execution profile; #158's profile-aware implementation remains supported. The residency fix also preserves the target inventory through this rewrite.

Validation: 1,357 Rust library tests (one ignored), 13 embedded-Python timing tests, 271 SDK/model/backend/speculation/native tests, and 92 application runner tests passed. Fast CI and CODEOWNERS passed on this head. Fresh SOL/SILICON/FPM predictions reproduce previous numerical results and failure populations; the PR body records current source/native identities and all MAPE/coverage tables. Experiments remain outside the PRs; SILICON's collected ops databases remain in #160.

This is ready for human re-review. Existing changes-requested reviews have not been dismissed; no approval or completed human handoff is claimed.

🟠 Major · Handle Dsv41Stage operations in AFD partitioning.

python/aisimulate/src/aiconfigurator_core/sdk/models/deepseek_v41.py:247-266
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Handle Dsv41Stage operations in AFD partitioning.

DeepSeek-V4.1 AFD remains selectable. Its model builder emits top-level Dsv41Stage operations, but the default AFD classifier does not recognize or traverse them. The classifier raises AFDPartitionError before producing a partition estimate. The model validation path contains no DeepSeek-V4.1 AFD exclusion.

Either reject AFD during DeepSeek-V4.1 model validation, or extend the partitioner to classify Dsv41Stage operations and include their resident memory.

ai-dynamo/dynamo

  • Dynamo enforces one exact AISimulate version across Python, Rust, lockfiles, and container requirements. It currently pins 0.12.0.dev2 / 0.12.0-dev.2; consuming this PR’s schema-19 implementation requires coordinated artifact publication and pin updates. tests/dependencies/test_aisimulate_consistency.py:97-125, pyproject.toml:17, Cargo.toml:58-59, container/deps/requirements.aisimulate.txt:5 [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
  • The Rust AIC callback directly depends on AicEngine::prefill_latency_ms and decode_latency_ms; these APIs remain an important compatibility boundary. lib/bindings/python/rust/llm/aic_callback.rs:27-29,51-63 [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]
  • The DeepSeek-V4.1 aggregate deployment disables forward-pass publishing because SGLang crashes on null seq_lens_cpu, so the PR’s forward-pass telemetry path is not exercised by this deployment. recipes/deepseek-v4.1-flash/sglang/agg-gb200/deploy.yaml:108-111 [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::]

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

  • The frozen compatibility core remains on ENGINE_SPEC_SCHEMA_VERSION = 15, so it cannot consume the PR’s schema-19 bincode contract. aic-core/rust/aiconfigurator-core/src/config.rs:72, aic-core/rust/tests/public-api/src/lib.rs:85 [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]
  • Its migration guide requires stable aisimulate==0.12.0 publication and explicitly excludes development releases from the transition baseline. docs/aisimulate_migration.md:13-19,23-26 [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::]

1333-1333: 🎯 Functional Correctness

AFD rejects DeepSeek-V4.1 before memory estimation. Its Dsv41Stage operations are named context_v41_layer_<n> or generation_v41_layer_<n>, which match no AFD classification marker. The public aiconfigurator.sdk.afd_partition module aliases the inspected core partitioner, and AFD calls it with allow_unknown_ops=False, so it raises AFDPartitionError before get_partition_memory_usage can omit the MXFP4 scale bytes.

Re-review of de45ee5a63ef65c3110057add36dc62d3564b4d9: I replied to the three existing discussions acknowledging the original admission rollback, target-scale residency and full/zero-ratio findings as addressed, with the verification scope stated individually. This is not a blanket approval: native Rust/model tests were inspected rather than rebuilt/run locally, and separate remaining review items and exact-head Full CI/domain sign-off must not be inferred from these acknowledgements. No GPU work or product-code changes were made.

Follow-up on current head 40fdb603, including the outside-diff AFD finding and latest scoped re-review:

  • V4.1 AFD is now rejected at shared Task construction/validation and direct AFDInferenceSession entry, before search or partitioning. Both decoder profiles are covered. Full AFD support is not claimed. The 28 existing synthetic AFD phase tests remain passing after supplying their local model architecture.
  • Unsupported serialized attention roles are rejected before pricing or zero-work returns; the fix has an individual inline reply.
  • The acknowledged admission rollback, complete target-scale residency, zero-ratio guard, non-vacuous dispatch assertions and exact native exception test remain intact. The earlier legacy-FPM bounded-replay guard remains in the base; feat: add DeepSeek V4.1 FPM identity and Slurm collection #158's profile-aware FPM path is separate.
  • Conflicts with current main are resolved while preserving both the past-KV decode coordinate conversion and phase/power evidence. The B200 power regression expectation was checked with a control native build reverting only that conversion: it exactly reproduces the former snapshot. No tolerance was weakened.

Validation: 1,416 Rust library tests (one ignored), 383 engine parity cases, and 216 affected integration/contract tests with warnings-as-errors passed. Full CI passed on this exact head. Fresh replay preserves all archived SOL forward results and recoverable GB200/GB300 HTTP metrics, coverage and MAPE. The PR body contains the refreshed evidence; experimental campaign files remain outside the PR.

Ready for re-review. Existing reviewer decisions have not been dismissed, and these checks do not imply approval or new GPU qualification.

tianhaox added a commit to tianhaox/aisimulate that referenced this pull request Sep 19, 2026
Conflict resolutions:
- ENGINE_SPEC_SCHEMA_VERSION: upstream ai-dynamo#159 took 19 for the DeepSeek-V4.1
kv_cache_layout; decode context parallelism is renumbered to 20 (Rust
constant, spec.rs handshake tests and op doc comments, Python schema test).
- Package consolidation (aiconfigurator_core -> aisimulate_core,
aiconfigurator -> aisimulate): re-applied the cp/dcp changes to the renamed
sdk/{engine,memory,rust_engine_step}.py and moved the new generator module,
SGLang 0.5.15/0.5.17 templates and tests to the new paths.
- runner.py, config_builders.py, generator_overview.md: kept both sides.
- KV-capacity test stubs now carry the database version and the
get_kvcache_batch_capacity inverse that upstream memory.py reads.
