Installation
There are a few different elements that need to be installed before you can get up and running with eye-controlled Minecraft. Install the following programs in the order described.
Note that you require an internet connection for several parts of this installation process.
If you have already installed an earlier version of EyeMineV2, you can skip the Minecraft and Minecraft Forge steps and only update EyeMineV2 via the provided installer.
If you've previously installed the classic version of EyeMine, please be aware that EyeMineV2 will be installed alongside EyeMine, to give you a chance to use both in parallel for testing, or if you have older Minecraft worlds / servers you wish to continue using with the older version. You may also choose to upgrade your existing worlds to play with the new version.
See below for more details of each step.
- Install Minecraft Java Edition and log into launcher
- Download and unzip the latest installer: EyeMine-v2.3.0.zip
- Run 1__install_forge(.bat) to install Minecraft Forge (select "Install client" and "OK") (you can skip this step if you already have an earlier version of EyeMineV2)
- Run 2__EyeMineInstaller(.exe) to install EyeMine
If you're having any trouble you can watch a video of the full installation process on youtube.
You will first need to install Minecraft Java Edition. The simplest way to get started is to just buy the game at https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-edition using a Microsoft account, but you may prefer to try out a demo first - see Getting a Minecraft account for more information. If you already have an account or are trying a demo, you can download directly at https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download.
You should run the Minecraft Launcher once before continuing with the rest of the EyeMine installation
- Download and run the installer
- If the installer asked you to install Java, restart your computer after installation has finished and then continue the instructions.
- Wait until all parts have finished running, and you are presented with a login screen to the Minecraft Launcher.
- Close the Minecraft Launcher before continuing
Download the latest installer: EyeMine-v2.3.0.zip
Unzip the downloaded file by right clicking on it and selecting "Extract all", or by opening the folder and clicking "Extract all" at the top of the window.
You will need the files in the resulting EyeMine-v2.3.0 folder for the following steps.
EyeMine uses a custom mod to make changes to Minecraft. For this to work, you need to install Minecraft Forge, v1.14.4, which we include in the EyeMine-v2.3.0 folder.
- Open the unzipped EyeMine-v2.3.0 folder
- Run 1__install_forge(.bat)
- If you get a Windows Smart Screen warning, click "More info" and "Run anyway"
- Select "Install client" and "OK"
- If the installer prompts you to install the Java Runtime, follow the link and install before running the forge installer again.
This will install the EyeGaze mod, set some defaults for Minecraft and install some sample worlds for you to get playing with. If you are already an advanced minecraft user, you may prefer to check out Advanced Minecraft Installation for a more custom installation.
Finally, you need to install EyeMine itself, which includes eye gaze keyboards, Minecraft mods, some defaults for Minecraft and a sample world for you to get started playing with.
- Open the unzipped EyeMine-v2.3.0 folder
- Run the installer, 2__EyeMineInstaller(.exe)
- If you get a Windows Smart Screen warning, click "More info" and "Run anyway"
- Select the eyetracker you plan to use when prompted
Now that everything is installed, head over to Get started playing to guide you through your first time playing.
EyeMine is a fork of the excellent OptiKey project, which offers computer control and speech for advanced eye gaze users.
If you're using the EyeMine Classic version (versions 1.x.x) then you can find legacy documentation at the EyeMine classic wiki
