Agenda (DRAFT)

Notes

  • Joerg commenced the meeting by reviewing the agenda and invited new members to add agenda topics today or in the future.
    • Scripps/Lance responded by describing a need and plans to improve the workflows for updating metadata in OSCAR/Surface rather than going through OceanOps. It was noted that operational workflows are addressed by ET-WTR and changes to the WIGOS standard (representation and codes) are addressed by the TT-WIGOSMD.
    • OceanOps/Mathieu described the need to add programs through a faster mechanism than fast-track, noting that the agreements between WMO and programs have already been established and introducing new programs to the WIGOS codes through fast-track before adding to OSCAR/Surface restricts the timely creation of records associated with those programs. Joerg and the team discussed options for adding these program codes with a status of “experimental” to the Codes Registry and OSCAR/Surface after the team approves before official WMO approval.
    • Lance also talked about an issue with assigning WSIs for stations that may not be associated with OceanOps.He was advised to submit a support ticket to OSCAR/Surface.
  • Anna provided an update on the status of FT2024-2 (NFP review ended 22 October, with no changes to amendments) and the schedule for FT2025-1 (finalization of proposals by mid-January with implementation in mid-May). She also mentioned that there were requests for feedback from ET-WTR on how to approach changes to the application area codes and the data policy codes.
  • The team briefly reviewed the following new proposals and assigned primary contacts to be responsible for them (see notes in issues):
    • Schumann Resonances to Terrestrial table - # 548
    • Add 'accumulated precipitation' to atmospheric variables (1-01-01) #549
    • add Cloud liquid water path to Atmospheric variables (table 1-01-01) #551
    • Align definitions for cloud drop effective radius (table 1-01-01) - #553
    • Table 3-02 - Additional Territories Required #556
      • During review of this issue, there was also a discussion about territory of the observation vs territory of the operator for ships and buoys (see action).
  • To conclude the meeting, Joerg talked about the I-Adopt challenge and invited all to join the meeting with the coordinator of the challenge at 17h.

ACTIONS

  • OceanOps (or Anna?) to open an issue requesting the implemention of “experimental” codes for programs
  • OceanOps to open an issue on the challenge of assigning territories for buoys and ships
