CLI: Show the Svelte CSF automigration's details in upgrade, and find more legacy syntax - #36620
Conversation
storybook upgrade showed a fix only as its one-line prompt, so a fix could not say which files it changes or which files need a hand fix. When a fix's prompt says more with its check result, upgrade now prints it for each project before the fixes run, and in a dry run. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
A dry run of storybook automigrate ended with "Skipped migrations". The summary now lists the migrations a run would apply, and says that the dry run changed no files. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
WalkthroughThe Svelte CSF automigration now detects and reports legacy story syntax, and rewrites eligible MDX imports. The CLI also displays automigration details and provides dry-run-specific migration summaries. ChangesAutomigration
Priority: ⬇️ Low Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to Some migration runs can change MDX examples or miss a manual-migration warning. These are bounded cases, but the fixes should be made or explicitly accepted before merging. ✨ Finishing Touches 💡 1🛠️ Fix failing CI checks 💡

- Line 357: Run legacyStorySyntax for Svelte stories before the rewriteImports
check, so stories whose imports need no rewrite are still scanned for legacy
syntax and included in the migration prompt when needed.
- Line 254: Update the inImport end-detection expression in the addon Svelte CSF
migration so an import ending with a module string, semicolon, and trailing
inline comment is recognized as complete. This must reset inImport before
subsequent prose is processed, preventing prose containing the module name from
being rewritten.
- Line 244: Update the fence handling in the visible automigration logic so an
open fence is cleared only when the candidate marker uses the same character, is
at least as long as the opener, and the remaining line contains only spaces or
tabs. Otherwise preserve the open fence, preventing import rewriting inside the
code block.

The addon-svelte-csf-to-core fix now also lists defineMeta stories that still use let:args, let:context, or the id, autodocs or source props on <Story>, and says which syntax each file uses. It no longer warns about the legacyTemplate option alone, and run no longer logs the list a second time, because the prompt shows it. File lists show paths relative to the project root. The migration guide tells users to run storybook upgrade, which runs the fix. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Closes SB-2221. Stacked on #36619, because both change the same fix.
What I did
The QA of
storybook@11.0.0-alpha.3on real projects found thatstorybook upgradehides what theaddon-svelte-csf-to-coreautomigration found, and that the fix misses some legacy Svelte CSF syntax.General automigration improvements
upgradeshows what a fix found.upgradeshowed each fix only as its one-lineprompt(), so it never named the files the fix changes or the files that need a hand fix. In the OSS workout repo, a helper that imports the addon showed up only as a svelte-check error. Now, when a fix'sprompt(result)says more thanprompt(),upgradeprints it in a box for each project before the fixes run, and also in a dry run (logAutomigrationDetailsinmulti-project.ts). This works for any fix that lists details, and the one-line hint in the selection doesn't change. The dry-run summary of
storybook automigratelisted the fixes under "Skipped migrations". Now it says "Migrations that a run would apply (dry run, no files changed)" and ends with "Dry run finished: no files were changed".Svelte CSF Automigration improvement
More legacy syntax found. A
defineMetafile can still uselet:args/let:contexton<Story>, or the removedid, autodocsandsourceprops. Its import was rewritten, the file wasn't listed, and the build passed, butlet:argsbreaks at run time andidchanges the story URL. The fix now lists these files with the syntax each one uses, for examplesrc/A.stories.svelte (let:args, id). It still rewrites their imports. A small scanner reads the<Story …>tags. It skips<script>,<style>, comments, quoted values and{…}expressions, and counts a shorthand like{source}as its name.No warning for
legacyTemplatealone. WithlegacyTemplate: trueand no legacy files (SWRdata), the fix said "Migrate your legacy stories by hand." with no list. Now it lists only real files. Because bothautomigrateandupgradeshow the prompt with the result, runno longer logs the same list a second time.File lists show paths relative to the project root.
Migration guide: tells users to run
npx storybook@latest upgrade, which runs the fix. On Storybook 10,npx storybook automigrate addon-svelte-csf-to-coreruns the old CLI, which doesn't know the fix. The legacy section mentions the new detection. Before, in
