…ervice a trap there A gated N-API call (NAPI_PREAMBLE) checked for a pending exception through JSC's RETURN_IF_EXCEPTION, which services the VM's traps. A termination another thread requested (worker.terminate()) was then thrown into the VM with only addon frames on the stack, napi_is_exception_pending reported it, napi_get_and_clear_last_exception handed out its value and could not clear it, and node-addon-api escalated the next refused call to napi_fatal_error. The entry check (NapiEnv::entryStatus, shared by the C++ macros and the Rust preamble) now reads the slot as it is: an exception the addon can read answers napi_pending_exception, a pending termination answers as the closed can_call_into_js() gate does, and the two readers never report a termination. The termination is delivered where Node delivers it: in the next script the addon enters, or by the trampoline the addon returns to.

WalkthroughC++ and Rust N-API entry checks now combine pending-exception and VM termination status. Exception readers omit VM termination exceptions. New tests cover worker termination during addon initialization, gated calls, and script execution for N-API versions 9 and 10. ChangesN-API termination handling

Beyond the inline findings, I also checked the C ABI rename: NapiEnv__entryStatus is declared in src/runtime/napi/napi_body.rs and defined in src/jsc/bindings/napi.cpp with matching signatures, and no callers of the removed NapiEnv__hasPendingException / NapiEnv__checkCanCallIntoJS exports, NAPI_RETURN_IF_CANNOT_CALL_INTO_JS macro, or has_pending_exception / check_can_call_into_js helpers remain under src/. The six NAPI_RETURN_IF_EXCEPTION_WITH_SCOPE deletions each sit directly after a gated preamble that now performs the same slot read, so no entry check was lost there.
Extended reasoning...
The change replaces the two-step N-API entry check with a single NapiEnv::entryStatus in napi.h, rewires the C++ preamble macros, the Rust preamble! and conclude_deferred to it, makes the two exception readers ignore termination exceptions, and adds a terminate-probe addon fixture plus tests. It touches no auth, crypto, or injection surface, but it alters process-abort behavior under worker termination for every N-API addon, and six verified findings are posted inline, so a human look is warranted regardless of this note.

src/jsc/bindings/napi.cpp— Addons that run script through napi_run_script still get a worker.terminate() handed back as a readable pending exception, the state this PR exists to remove. napi.cpp:3063 latches the termination JSC::Exception returned by JSC::evaluate into m_pendingException. From then on napi.h:527 answers every gated call with napi_pending_exception (NAPI_VERSION>=10 included, where Node answers napi_cannot_run_js), napi.cpp:1359 reports an exception pending, and napi.cpp:1395-1397 hands the Exception cell itself out to the addon. Fix: at napi.cpp:3063 do not latch a termination exception (leave it on the VM, return cannotCallIntoJSStatus()), so napi_run_script joins the gated-call matrix the PR tests.Why this was flagged
Trigger: a Worker calls an addon that evaluates script via napi_run_script, and worker.terminate() (or a vm timeout) lands while that script runs. JSC::evaluate at napi.cpp:3060 returns the termination in returnedException, and napi.cpp:3063 stores that JSC::Exception cell with env->scheduleException. The new entry check at napi.h:527 returns napi_pending_exception on m_pendingException before it ever looks at the termination branch at napi.h:531, so a NAPI_VERSION>=10 addon gets napi_pending_exception instead of napi_cannot_run_js, and napi_is_exception_pending at napi.cpp:1359 says true. node-addon-api then calls napi_get_and_clear_last_exception, which at napi.cpp:1395-1397 falls through to the latch and returns the raw JSC::Exception cell as a napi_value. The base latched the same way, but this PR's gated-call test matrix (test/napi/napi.test.ts 'worker.terminate() during gated calls') leaves this gated site uncovered. Remedy: skip the latch for vm.isTerminationException(returnedException) at napi.cpp:3063 and return cannotCallIntoJSStatus().
Verification: Pre-existing. src/jsc/bindings/napi.cpp:3060-3064 latches whatever JSC::evaluate returns in returnedException, including the termination exception, into m_pendingException. napi.h:527-529 checks m_pendingException before the termination mapping at napi.h:530-534, so gated calls answer napi_pending_exception; napi.cpp:1359 reports an exception pending; napi.cpp:1395-1397 hands the Exception cell to the addon. The diff does not touch the latch.

Go back to the one-line fix: napi_run_script stores the value of what the script threw as the pending exception of the env, not the JSC::Exception cell. The version that left the exception on the VM changed what a termination does. With it, node-addon-api's Env::RunScript() cut by a node:vm timeout aborted the process where main exits 0. That change needs the reader changes of #45615 first, so it is not part of this fix. scheduleException(JSC::Exception*) stays deleted. The tests keep the cases that this fix decides, and add one through node-addon-api's Env::RunScript().

…6270) ### What does this PR do? Hardening follow-up to #46021. It fixes regressions from #46021 and #44618 that were never released, includes more of the open pull requests that fix a crash, and fixes a few crashes that had no pull request. #### Regressions fixed (none was released) - `spyOn(Bun, "$")`, and the same for `"sql"`, `"postgres"` and `"SQL"`, threw "does not support accessor properties yet". - Async `fs.read`, `fs.write` and `zlib.brotliCompress` on a view over a `WebAssembly.Memory` could lose data or copy far more than they needed. - `node:vm` with `vm.constants.DONT_CONTEXTIFY`: `this` in host accessors, prototype handling, `util.types.isProxy`, `Bun.deepEquals`, `assert.deepEqual` and `console.log` of a context. - `zlib` `stream.flush()` threw for arguments it used to accept, and streams had a new enumerable property. - `Bun.Transpiler` `exports.replace` with the name `"default"`. - `process.env.X = 3000` could store the number once the function was JIT-compiled. - `node:sqlite` and `bun:sqlite` could lose rows at exit. - Dev server: stylesheets shared between pages after a build error. - Shell `cp` of a file onto itself exited 1. - `error.stack`: the frame of `require()` reads `at anonymous (unknown)` again. - `import * as process from "process"` followed by `process.on(...)` threw at load. The EventEmitter methods that the module exports now act on `process`. - `delete res.statusCode; res.end()` in a `node:http` handler threw. It sends 200, as in Node. (from #46128) - `node:tls`, `node:https` and `node:http2`: connection teardown and write callbacks behave as in 1.4.3 and Node again. #### Crash fixes Bundler, parser and CSS: #42286, #46092, #46097, #46177, #46239, #36334, #43024, #40769. `bun test`, `--hot` and `--watch`: #30776, #38206, #38974. Shell: #43183, #37743, #46168, #46207, #34900. `node:http`, `node:http2`, `Bun.serve`, streams: #43449, #45380, #44457, #42197, #42485, #38082, #38124, #46074, #45999, #46045. `node:vm`, native addons, workers: #46129, #46198, #45615, #33412, #38031. Other: #35991, #38030, #38586, #40526, #41830, #46029, #46078, #46114, and the bug of #42215. #### Behavior changes - `crypto.randomFill(view, cb)` reports `ERR_CRYPTO_OPERATION_FAILED` if it could not fill the view. It used to report success. - A function registered twice on `process` runs twice, as in Node. (#41830) - Under `--hot`, a reload after an uncaught exception cancels the timers that the failed run created. The new run's timers fire, and so do timers and `fs.watchFile` watchers that earlier runs kept on `globalThis`. The reload also resets the exit code to 0. (#38206) - The parent of a Worker no longer gets an `'error'` event for a failed `Bun.serve` request in that Worker. The error is printed, as on the main thread. - `hash.write()` after `digest()` drops the chunk, as in Node. (#35991) - `http2` over TLS with `server.emit("connection", socket)`: `session.socket` is a `TLSSocket` and a `'connection'` listener fires, as in Node. (#38124) - A `slice()` with no type of a body `Blob` has `type === ""`, as in Node. (#46114) - `util.types.isProxy(globalThis)` is false, as in Node. - A write on a `node:net` or `node:tls` socket that is still pending when the connection closes calls back with `ECANCELED`, as in Node. - `HTMLRewriter.on()` throws for a selector that is nested too deeply. - `Bun.Image`: `maxPixels` also bounds PNG metadata, `metadata()` of a GIF reports the size that gets decoded, and a path with a NUL byte throws. (#40526) - `bun build --no-bundle` with the `base64` or `dataurl` loader prints an error. (#36334) - Bundled output for a default-exported function or class expression changes to `var file_default = function name() {}`, as in esbuild. `.name` is unchanged. (#46097) - A Proxy in the prototype chain of a `node:vm` global is allowed. jsdom 30 with `runScripts` needs this. - `bun:sqlite` commits a write that `iterate()` left open when the main thread exits. An explicit `BEGIN` is still rolled back. - When a Worker stops while a native addon's async work is still running, the addon's finalizers run after that work is done, as in Node. - Shell: `mv -n` and `cp -n` don't overwrite, and `cp` reads `R`, `v` and `n` anywhere in a flag group. #### Performance - Ordinary `node:vm` contexts run at the same speed. With `DONT_CONTEXTIFY`, stores to globals and reads of inherited names in a hot loop cost 10 to 20 % more than on `main`. - A `process.env` write costs 20 to 35 % less than after #46021. - An async read into a `WebAssembly.Memory` view looks through the live memories: about 1.5 µs more with one memory. #### Not included - Taken in part, so these should stay open for the rest: #36334, #38974, #39488, #40526, #40769, #42485, #45615, #45999, #46029, #46092, #46114, #46168, #46207, #46239. - Needs a WebKit change: #34655 #39204 #40170 #40253 #41587 #41900 #42699 #42897 #42903 #43084 #43813 #44518 #44949 #45770 #45804 #45827. - #44723 (covered by #46097), #41675, #42753, #38762, #41475, #46016. ### How did you verify your code works? - Every item was reproduced first on release builds of `main`, of its parent and of 1.4.3, and compared with Node v26 where Node has the API. - Every fix has a test that fails on `main` and passes on a debug + ASAN build of this branch, except where that isn't practical (huge inputs, code that only runs on Windows or macOS). - The regressions were checked on grids of calls against the build before #46021 and against 1.4.3. - Bun's own test suites and Node's `test-vm-*`, `test-http2-*` and `test-zlib-*` files for the areas touched.
… loads (#429) ## Problem The server died with `panic: NAPI FATAL ERROR: Error::Error napi_define_properties` right after a 280 s Parakeet load (#408). The cause is in Bun, not in sherpa-onnx or akou: on Bun 1.3.13 through 1.4.4, calling `Worker.terminate()` while the Worker is inside a native constructor aborts the whole process (oven-sh/bun#45252, fix still open in oven-sh/bun#45615). A model load sits in such a constructor for a second, or for minutes on a starved disk. akou terminates Workers in four places: a job cancelled or hung up on (`DELETE /v1/jobs/:id`, or the OpenAI, Bazarr or Wyoming caller going away), a job Worker that errors, a final pass that runs out of budget or is aborted, and the live Worker's close. Any of them during a load took the server or the app down. In #408 the most likely trigger is the proxy in front hanging up during the long load (openai.ts hangUp, then jobs.remove, then JobWorker.cancel). ## Fix - New `src/main/asr/native-guard.ts`. The host creates a shared `Int32Array` per Worker and sends it in the first message (`job`, `run`, `init`), not in `workerData`, which stays the string entry marker. - `sherpa.ts` runs every native load through `nativeLoad`: the `sherpa-onnx-node` require and the five constructors (OfflineRecognizer, Vad, SpeakerEmbeddingExtractor, OnlineRecognizer, OfflineSpeakerDiarization). It counts the load on the flag. - Every terminate site goes through `stopWorker`: `finalizeCall`'s finish, `JobWorker`'s onerror and cancel/close, and the live Worker's close. Outside a load it terminates at once, as before. Inside a load it only sets a stop bit. The Worker sees the bit as the load returns, posts `native.parked` and waits in JS, and the host terminates it on that message. There is no timer poll, so the terminate never lands in the decode that follows a load. A stop asked just before a load starts skips the load (the count and the stop bit are written and read in opposite order on each side, so one side always sees the other). - `JobWorker.cancel` still drops the Worker, kills its children and rejects the caller at once. Only the terminate waits. - A load that never returns now leaves a Worker thread behind instead of aborting the process. The guard can come out once the pinned Bun carries oven-sh/bun#45615. The TRAPS row says so. ## Evidence All on a Mac mini, Apple silicon, macOS 26, Bun 1.4.2, sherpa-onnx-node 1.13.8, Parakeet TDT 0.6b v3 fp32. - `tests/native-guard.test.ts`, with a fake Worker: - `[bun#45252] ... outside every load the Worker is terminated at once` - `[bun#45252] ... inside a load it is not terminated until it parks after the load, then once` - `[bun#45252] ... positive control: a bare terminate in its place is caught terminating inside the load` - `[bun#45252] ... a stop asked before a load starts skips the load and parks` - `[bun#45252] ... a load that throws while a stop waits still parks, and the count goes back to zero` - `[bun#45252] ... a Worker that errors while a stop waits is terminated` - `[bun#45252] ... without a flag (in-thread, tests) a load just runs` - Model-gated: `[bun#45252] a job cancelled inside Parakeet's load > 300 ms into the load, the job rejects at once and the process outlives the load`. It runs `tests/fixtures/cancel-during-load.ts` in a child process. CI's `server-macos` job, which pulls the fast models, now runs it and fails if it skips. The check jobs have no models and skip it, so `maxSkip` goes up by 1 in `tests/floors.json` for check (darwin, linux, win32) and clock-shift. - With the guard, the fixture cancelled at 100, 300 and 700 ms into the load: the job rejected with `cancelled` and the process stayed alive, exit 0 each time. - Mutation: with `stopWorker` reduced to a bare `w.terminate()`, the fixture exits 134 with `panic: NAPI FATAL ERROR: Error::Error napi_define_properties`. The gated test and 4 of the unit tests fail. - Standalone repro, terminate 300 ms into `new OfflineRecognizer(...)`: 1.3.12 survives; 1.3.13 exits 133 (`napi_create_object`); 1.4.2 exits 134 (`napi_define_properties`); 1.4.4 exits 134 (`A C++ exception occurred`). Posted on oven-sh/bun#45252. - `bunx bun@1.4.2 run check`: 3353 pass, 37 skip, 0 fail; floor check:darwin 37 skipped (at most 39). ## Not covered - A terminate during the native calls after a load (`decode`, `createStream`) is unchanged. One measured terminate during a 2.4 s decode did not crash, but that is one run. - The issue's other two asks need no change. Nothing creates the recognizer twice: loads are synchronous in one Worker, and `loadRecognizer` drops the old one first. Jobs left running are queued again at start since #45 (`jobs.ts`, `MAX_JOB_STARTS` = 2). The client's own connection still dies if the process dies, and no server change can save it. Fixes #408

test/napi/napi-app) swallows onlynapi_pending_exceptioninThrowAsJavaScriptException, so aNAPI_VERSION=10addon built withNODE_API_SWALLOW_UNTHROWABLE_EXCEPTIONSaborts on Node too with that version. The raw probe line (status 23,napi_throw23, nothing pending) is what newer node-addon-api checks for. The fixture probes the gate's refusal: a call already inside its body when the stop lands is answered by a mid-body check (see Downsides), and the next call is the gate's answer. The probe file stays in the test's directory, so a crash still leaves the line in the failure.Noted for later, out of scope here: mid-body JSC checks under a node:vm timeout (Open state); the V8 shim's
RETURN_IF_EXCEPTIONsites;executePendingNapiModulelacks thethrowPendingException()the dlopen path has.Two
