Constraint: The managed SSH browser proxy forwards loopback destinations only. Rejected: Send public web traffic through the remote loopback proxy | That transport cannot provide public egress. Confidence: high Scope-risk: narrow Directive: Keep public fallback scoped to the managed SSH transport. Tested: PrivateAddressRouteSelector regression coverage for loopback ownership. Not-tested: Native BrowserPanel test target.
Constraint: cmux-tui exposes an on-demand loopback-only browser proxy. Rejected: Route all remote workspace traffic through that proxy | Public hosts are outside its supported routing boundary. Confidence: high Scope-risk: moderate Directive: Preserve proxy routing for remote loopback destinations while keeping public fallback transport-specific. Tested: PrivateAddressRouteSelector tests; Swift parse; test wiring; selected repository checks. Not-tested: Native BrowserPanel test target.
…avigation. Constraint: Managed SSH route readiness can arrive after the user starts navigating elsewhere. Rejected: Test source-level queue state only | It would not verify which destination WebKit receives. Confidence: high Scope-risk: narrow Directive: Discard superseded remote destinations at the navigation boundary. Tested: Regression coverage added; intentionally no implementation in this commit. Not-tested: Native test target execution.
Constraint: cmux-tui establishes browser proxy readiness asynchronously. Rejected: Replay only a URL as a new GET | That loses method, body, and headers. Confidence: high Scope-risk: moderate Directive: Carry original request identity through route readiness transitions. Tested: PrivateAddressRouteSelector tests; Swift parse; test wiring; affected checks 6/6. Not-tested: Native BrowserPanel tests.
…ions. Constraint: IPv4 and IPv6 loopback can name separate services on the remote host; ordinary Cloud routes must remain default-deny. Rejected: Rewrite every loopback destination to the active page host | It changes the requested service target. Confidence: high Scope-risk: moderate Directive: Keep loopback permission explicit to SSH-owned browser routes. Tested: Swift parse; verify-local selected checks 6/6; test wiring; diff check. Not-tested: Native BrowserPanel tests.
…e WebKit can load them locally. Constraint: An SSH browser proxy is configured for its selected loopback destination. Rejected: Reconfigure every SSH loopback navigation | Already-owned readiness navigation must proceed without recursion. Confidence: high Scope-risk: moderate Directive: Keep same-owner readiness and changed-alias provider routing as separate cases. Tested: Swift parse; verify-local selected checks 6/6; diff check. Not-tested: Native BrowserPanel tests.
…4 and IPv6 loopback, even if the authenticated endpoint stays the same. Constraint: Proxy match domains depend on the destination host while loopback aliases share one SSH proxy endpoint. Rejected: Cache configuration by endpoint alone | Later aliases remain outside the proxy match set. Confidence: medium Scope-risk: narrow Directive: Keep destination-host changes in the browser proxy configuration identity. Tested: Swift parse; verify-local selected checks 6/6; test wiring 1229 files; diff check. Not-tested: Native cmux-unit build and runtime pending on the Mac mini.
Create a prewarmed loading WebView, verify navigation stays queued until the SSH proxy is ready, and then replay the original POST request through that route. Constraint: Headless WebKit needs the prewarmed loading host used by the existing proxy integration tests. Rejected: Start the request before route readiness | The test never reaches its proxy fixture and cannot prove request preservation. Confidence: high Scope-risk: narrow Directive: Keep WebKit fixture tests explicit about host readiness before network assertions. Tested: Swift parse; test wiring 1229 files; diff check. Not-tested: Native integration test rerun pending on the Mac mini.
Use the suite's explicit deadline loop so the test compiles independently of helpers in other suites. Constraint: Swift Testing suites do not share private wait helpers. Rejected: Rely on the other suite's `wait` function | It is out of scope and fails test-target compilation. Confidence: high Scope-risk: narrow Directive: Keep asynchronous test helpers local to their owning suite. Tested: Swift parse; diff check. Not-tested: Native cmux-unit build/test pending on the Mac mini.
Wait until navigation applies the ready proxy configuration before asserting the WebKit store state. The route is configured when the queued request is replayed, not merely when its model becomes ready. Constraint: Preserve the production route timing while asserting the correct integration-test boundary. Rejected: Configure the store directly in the test | It would bypass the behavior under test. Confidence: high Scope-risk: narrow Directive: Keep proxy assertions after the code path that applies the route. Tested: Swift parse; diff check. Not-tested: Mac mini integration rerun pending.
Give each managed SSH browser route an app-owned loopback listener lease. Pass a duplicate descriptor to the remote child so the browser endpoint stays reserved and fails closed after transport exit. Retain route-specific WebKit guards through view replacement and isolate browser route ownership by host. Constraint: WebKit must not reach unrelated client loopback services during remote browser navigation. Rejected: Rebind the same loopback port after child exit | another local process can claim it and receive remote browser traffic. Confidence: high Scope-risk: moderate Directive: Keep the listener lease and WebKit route policy aligned when changing managed SSH browser lifecycle. Tested: Static verification 17/17; cargo build; focused Rust inherited-listener and descriptor-parser tests; Mac mini to Haven HTTP 200 and post-exit 503 smoke; cargo fmt --check. Not-tested: Final native Xcode focused test suite is still running on Mac mini.
Replacement WebViews must restore the active Cloud host above any retained SSH bridge generation. Listener descriptors must stay private to cmux and the explicitly mapped helper stdin across fork/exec. Constraint: The helper receives the socket only through its configured stdin mapping. Rejected: Rely on unrelated child processes to close inherited descriptors | terminal launchers may preserve them across exec. Confidence: high Scope-risk: narrow Directive: Advance loopback bridge generations whenever a replacement restores a different route. Tested: Swift parse, 17/17 affected static checks, cargo fmt --check, test-wiring check. Not-tested: Native Xcode suite on the revised snapshot is pending.
The macOS SDK does not expose SOCK_CLOEXEC here, so establish FD_CLOEXEC immediately after socket creation while keeping the child descriptor duplication atomic. Constraint: Build against the supported macOS SDKs without relying on unavailable socket type flags. Rejected: Remove close-on-exec protection | terminal child processes can retain a listener past its owner. Confidence: medium Scope-risk: narrow Directive: Preserve close-on-exec on the parent listener and use an atomic close-on-exec duplicate for the helper. Tested: Swift parse and static checks passed; native build is pending after this portability correction. Not-tested: The preceding native build rejected SOCK_CLOEXEC before the fix.
Carry the resolved agent socket into CLI SSH arguments and keep loopback alias route fixtures faithful to their requested targets. Host the managed-loopback WebKit integration view so its real request path is exercised in native tests. Constraint: The agent path and SSH option list must resolve to one effective IdentityAgent value. Rejected: Weaken alias and WebKit assertions to match the fixture | those assertions cover route ownership and the actual browser path. Confidence: medium Scope-risk: narrow Directive: Keep route test models initialized with the target passed to the access store. Tested: Swift parse and affected static checks 17/17. Not-tested: Focused native test rerun is pending.
Distinguish retained managed-SSH bridge state from Cloud proxy bridge state so reconfiguring a Cloud browser cannot replace its VM host mapping with the generic alias. Constraint: Cloud endpoint and store reuse may skip WebView replacement, so its active bridge must survive reconfiguration in place. Rejected: Rebuild the WebView on every Cloud reconfiguration | unchanged endpoint/store needs no replacement and should retain browser state. Confidence: high Scope-risk: narrow Directive: Keep cleanup scoped to scripts installed for the managed SSH route. Tested: Swift parse, cargo fmt --check, test-wiring sync. Not-tested: Focused native integration rerun is pending.
The integration fixture owns its native test window and must follow BrowserPanel when SSH route setup replaces the initial WebView. Constraint: Standalone WebKit tests do not have the app's SwiftUI host to observe WebView changes. Rejected: Drop the live-host assertion | the POST and replacement policy need an attached WebKit view. Confidence: high Scope-risk: narrow Directive: Keep standalone browser fixtures attached to the panel's current WebView. Tested: Earlier c3 build passed; focused rerun pending. Not-tested: This host reattachment change has not yet run on Mac mini.

Localize the new --listen-fd conflict error.
Every other parser error in parse_connect_flags uses catalog().remote_client. This message is hardcoded English, so Japanese-locale users can see untranslated text. Add an options_conflict template to RemoteClientMessages with English and Japanese entries, then call it here.

Validate SO_ACCEPTCONN on inherited listeners.
from_listener already calls local_addr(), so a pipe or TTY fails before the accept loop. However, local_addr() does not verify that a TCP socket is listening. A bound loopback socket that has not called listen() passes the current checks. The forward then prints a URL, but its accept task exits on the first listener.accept() error, so browser connections fail.
Check SO_ACCEPTCONN immediately after wrapping the descriptor and before creating the route. Return a clear error when it is false.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Do not discard a request whose body arrives in the final chunk.
The loop returns when chunk.isComplete is true. It does not first check whether the body is now complete. A client can half-close after it sends the last body bytes. In that case the fixture drops a valid request and does not record it. The test then fails intermittently, and the failure does not show the real cause. Check isComplete only after body.count still falls short of bodyLength. Apply the same order to the header loop on line 74.

Remove compiled rule lists from the store.
Each install compiles a rule list under a new UUID identifier (cmux.ssh-loopback.<UUID>). That list stays in WKContentRuleListStore.default(). The removal path takes the list off the controller but never calls removeContentRuleList(forIdentifier:). Each SSH preview navigation therefore leaves a compiled list on disk, and these lists accumulate across launches. Save the identifier when you install the list. Then remove the list from the store when you replace or remove it. A second option is to derive a stable identifier from the port.

Create the child descriptor before you call prepareForChild().
Line 16 increments the generation and cancels the 503 source. Line 25 can then throw from makeChildInput() (for example, F_DUPFD_CLOEXEC fails with EMFILE). In that case, nothing calls childDidStop(generation:). The lease then has no child and no 503 source. Browser requests queue in the listen backlog and hang until WebKit times out. They do not get the documented fail-closed 503.
Duplicating the descriptor does not consume the accept queue. You can create it first and still drain the 503 handler before run().

In the process start method, create the child input descriptor with
listener.makeChildInput() before calling listener.prepareForChild(), then assign
the prepared descriptor to child.standardInput. This ensures descriptor creation
failures leave the listener’s fail-closed 503 handling intact.

Localize the managed SSH browser error messages.
The listener and forward paths create hard-coded English errors. CloudMachineLink.errorText(error) propagates them to the SSH open failure and workspace error state, so non-English users can see English text.
Use complete localized messages with String(localized:). Do not interpolate the English operation value. Add matching catalog entries and translations for every supported locale.

Inject the loopback lease registry instead of using a process-wide singleton.
SSHTuiLoopbackListenerLeaseRegistry.shared owns runtime state and prevents SSHTuiLinkManager tests from providing a fresh registry. Construct one long-lived registry at the composition owner, such as SSHTuiWorkspaceCoordinator, and inject it into SSHTuiLinkManager. Keep the registry alive for the browser URL lifetime.
This change addresses ambient global state and test isolation. It does not reclaim leases or change the 64-key limit.

Main forwards a cmux-captured agent through SSH_AUTH_SOCK and never adds it as an IdentityAgent option, so the user's ssh config keeps precedence. Drop #18382's explicit IdentityAgent from the merge and from its forward-argument expectation. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
#18382 closed the previous loopback forward on every retarget. Models without a per-target stop share one Cloud forwarder that retargets its listener in place, so closing it handed the desktop page a new port (CloudDesktopWebSocketTests.retargetKeepsOneListener). Close the old forward first only for per-target (SSH) routes. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Thank you @iamcobolt. Your per-port forward design is the core of #18956, which landed for #18249 with you credited as co-author on its commits. The remaining ideas here are tracked in #19642. I'll leave this PR for a maintainer to close. |

Opening
localhostfrom an SSH-hosted terminal could show a same-port service on the Mac instead of the remote host. Managed SSH previews now use an app-owned listener for the remote service and block unrelated loopback routes; the listener fails closed if its helper exits.Fixes #18249
Testing
CloudPortRoutePlanTests,SSHTuiOpenTests, andCloudBrowserProxyIntegrationTestspassed: 43 tests, 0 failures, at489b95c. The touched source and test files were hash-verified against the rebased PR tree.xcodebuild build-for-testingattempt did not produce a test bundle. Xcode emitted 272 generic SwiftCompile “exit code 0 but produced no further output” errors, with no Swift source diagnostic, crash, or fatal error in the logs.cmux-tuibuild, focused inherited-listener and descriptor-parser Rust tests, andcargo fmt --checkpassed with Zig 0.16.0.Changelog
Fixed: SSH localhost previews show the remote service instead of a same-port service on the Mac.
Proof
Both fixtures use port 43919. The local control shows the Mac service; the managed SSH browser preview shows the remote response.
