[KK] Load EXL3 experts through common B12X trellis preparation - #909
Conversation
Load barrier-aligned expert extents through B12X without FP4 repacking or padded expert payloads. Preserve serialized dense weights and existing IQ2_XS, IQ2_XXS and Q8_0 support. Validation: 37 CPU extent, balance, rejection and head-padding cases passed. Full suite collection/execution is blocked by missing runtime dependencies in the audit environment. GPU validation remains pending. Co-authored-by: Martin Vit <martin@voipmonitor.org> Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com>
Normalize EXL3 metadata with the public adapter and retain BF16 I/O with explicit FP16 full-rotation arithmetic. Preserve extent assignment and serialized dense precision. CPU extent tests pass; CUDA serving qualification requires the Kimi integration dependencies. Assisted-by: OpenAI Codex

Pad moe_intermediate_size before constructing FusedMoEConfig.
plan_exl3_extent can assign 12 slots to a TP10 rank. Kimi uses 32 channels per slot, so the maximum extent is 12 * 32 = 384 channels. Set the TP10 runtime width to at least 10 * 384 = 3840; 3072 is not divisible by 10, so FusedMoEConfig can raise before Exl3MoEMethod.process_weights_after_loading runs. Keep the original 3072 checkpoint geometry separately from the padded runtime width.

Brings #857, #842, #909, #924 and #925 (Kimi-K3 EXL3 serving and opt-in MLA/DCP/memory options) into beta. One conflict in b12x_pcie_all_reduce._plan_key: keep beta's storage-keyed fused RMSNorm weight (MiMo fused norm sites) and canonical's singleton-stride normalization. Adds a canonical-sync release fragment for #924/#925, which carry none. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Behavior
Load EXL3 routed experts through B12X's public checkpoint adapter and common
TrellisSource/TrellisWeightspreparation API. Each TP rank reads a source-alignedextent and uses its actual intermediate width in FusedMoE configuration. Expert
storage is allocated during preparation, without padded expert payloads. Inputs
and outputs are BF16; full trellis rotations use FP16 arithmetic.
Kimi EXL3 head counts are padded from the checkpoint geometry for the selected TP
size. Checkpoint intermediate dimensions remain unchanged for shared experts.
The prepared-package installation validates the common source type, local width,
activation, and routing contract. Explicit quantization choices take precedence
over EXL3 auto-detection. Dense weights retain their serialized MXFP8/BF16 formats.
This is the common-API alternative to #859
requested in #907. Select
one implementation; the two PRs are not additive. This PR contains no changes to
MoE tuning benchmarks or speculative-decoding policy.
Dependencies and status
Status: research-only, with GPU and model qualification pending.

serving dependency set. Optional draft/DCP work from [KK] Preserve parallel-draft precision and mixed DCP cache geometry #858 remains separate;
this PR contains the EXL3 target head-geometry hook itself.
The extent planner accepts TP2 through TP24 without EP/DP. This is a storage
partitioning contract, not an end-to-end serving qualification for every TP size.
The direct
dev/karmic-krakenbase does not yet contain all required projectionimplementations. The loader is integrated before those serving dependencies. End-to-end serving
remains research-only until the dependencies and GPU/model qualification are resolved.
Validation
With this source checkout and B12X
437cead4d902dc549d5c9744630090fc142d9847:55 passed, 1 failed. The failure is
test_exl3_config_preserves_serialized_projection_formats: the direct base lacksuse_split_mixed_precision_input_projectionfrom #857. The test remains enabled.Passing checks cover extent ownership, head geometry, actual local MoE widths at
TP9/TP10/TP16, preservation of shared-expert dimensions, common-trellis installation
validation, format rejection, and explicit quantization selection. CPU installation
and model-construction tests mock GPU preparation and dense layer allocation;
they do not qualify GPU loading or arithmetic.
Commit-time pre-commit hooks pass, including Ruff 0.14.0, mypy, Markdown, SPDX,
and import checks.
git diff --checkalso passes.Tests used the existing vLLM virtualenv, compiled extensions, and generated
FlashMLA wrapper linked into an isolated checkout. The initial checkout lacked
those build artifacts and produced import failures before they were linked.
No GPU preparation, CUDA graph capture/replay, model evaluation, fidelity check,
or performance benchmark was run. Those remain required before serving qualification.
