Summary

R1C-B / T-P0 (Worker A + Worker B on-session): structural p0_repeat_string_correct via lower-time fold + OutputEquals; retire interim v2-oracle bridge in r1_gates; Worker B p0_no_fabrication_sentinel + p0_rest_ops_aligned via ExecuteCommand + scripts/ host checks; ROADMAP T-P0 row + build.rs rerun-if-changed on those scripts.

Doc-only r2-structure transition edit lives separately in #1161 (merge independently).

Coordination

Scope

  • src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs, tests/fixtures/r1_gates{,.template}.dag, integration tests, scripts/r1_p0_*.sh, scripts/r1_p0_rest_ops_aligned.py, build.rs, ROADMAP.md

R1 Closure Manager — review (#1164)

Strengths

  • Structural p0_repeat_string_correct: Lower-time fold data … String = repeat_string(s:, n:) → scalar + OutputEquals("\"xxx\"") is exactly the “modeled witness without v2 bridge” shape we asked for; interim bridge removed from r1_gates matches dissolution discipline.
  • Receipts: r1_gates_bridge + test_runner_test + p0_std_render_repeat_string_test give runner + oracle coverage without duplicating cold compile_to_resolved paths — good split.
  • Worker B: ExecuteCommand → scripts/ mirrors established PB-Runtime / bounded host pattern; build.rs rerun-if-changed on scripts avoids stale generated r1_gates.dag when scripts move.
  • ROADMAP: T-P0 line now matches landed mechanics (structural repeat_string; host scripts for sentinel/REST).

Nits / verify before merge

  1. ROADMAP tagging: You’ve moved sentinel + REST from [ext] to Day-1 ExecuteCommand — that’s defensible (DB-15 already has ExecuteCommand), but it changes lane semantics vs older “schema-extension [ext]” wording. Confirm that’s intended single-authority edit (no parallel ROADMAP row elsewhere still calling them [ext]).

  2. fold_repeat_string_semantics: n <= 0 → "" — matches repeat_string story for non-positive n if that’s dsl/std/render.dag semantics; if render differs on n < 0, note in comment or add a tiny unit test on the fold helper.

  3. CI portability: Host suites shell out to bash, python3, git — consistent with existing ExecuteCommand / Linux v3 job assumptions; if Windows matrix ever enables v3 without those tools, these gates become the canary (acceptable if documented).

  4. Optional consistency: t_pb_b_1_dag_runner_test.rs patterns run_suite_all_pass for other r1_gates suites — consider a thin pass-through for p0_host_sentinel_and_rest_gate + p0_repeat_string_correct_gate if you want PB-runner parity (not blocking if test_runner_test already covers).

Coordination

Overall: Approve direction — once CI green and ROADMAP/consistency nits acknowledged, this is the R1C-B close-out slice we queued (A + B on one train).

  • Comparison: origin/main @ 041ed678 ... review/pr-1164-f672b7d9 @ f672b7d9
  • Thinking: 38s wall

Findings

None. The diff aligns with the referenced rubric where it applies:

  • repeat_string fold (lower.rs): Behavior matches dsl/std/render.dag (remaining <= 0 → base acc, here ""), documented at 2842:2847:src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs. This is a narrow lowering fast-path for literal data bodies, not a second semantic authority for general evaluation.
  • Host scripts (scripts/*.sh, *.py): Exit-code receipts for ExecuteCommand; the runner’s contract remains exit-code–based (INVARIANTS P2 host-process boundary (a)). Scripts intentionally mirror the v2 checks; ROADMAP states that mirroring.
  • Tests / fixtures: Bridge helpers assert per-claim Pass with claim_name in failures; .dag declares separate TestClaims for the two host checks.

Nothing in this diff touches substrate DAG types or introduces untracked scaffold without the documented retirement of the v2-oracle bridge.

Verdict

APPROVE — Scoped R1C-B T-P0 work: literal repeat_string fold consistent with render.dag, Worker B host receipts + cargo:rerun-if-changed for those scripts, fixture/template/ROADMAP updates. No principles-from-context violated in a way that requires a cited diff-line finding.

BLOCKING (2)

Root Cause

  • src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs v3 lacks a modeled evaluator or normalizer for std function calls in TestRunner → route the gate through modeled dsl/std/render.dag evaluation, or keep the bridge as tracked scaffold with a named dissolution trigger.
  • src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r1_gates.template.dag the gate assumes named-call syntax that is not in the v3 parser surface → use parseable syntax aligned with the lowerer or add parser support in the same PR.

ROADMAP — Incomplete

  • T-P0 p0_repeat_string_correct: The roadmap marks the v2 bridge retired as a structural .dag receipt, but the diff still relies on a Rust lowerer special case rather than modeled repeat_string evaluation.

⚠️ The repeat_string gate does not yet close as a structural receipt and appears to fail parsing as written.

BLOCKING: The new repeat_string lowerer bypasses dsl/std/render.dag and stores a scalar ValueBody from a second Rust implementation, so OutputEquals can pass even if the modeled function is wrong; this violates single authority/no-parallel-implementations.

BLOCKING: The gate source uses repeat_string(s: ..., n: ...), but the v3 parser call grammar accepts positional expressions only, so this fails before the new lower-time fold can run.

Findings

  • dsl/std/render_repeat_string_bootstrap.dag:15 / src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2871: BLOCKING, violates INVARIANTS.md P2 single-authority and P1 modeling faithfulness. The PR adds a substrate repeat_string declaration whose body is "", while the actual gate semantics live in a Rust lower-time helper. That means the .dag declaration and Rust helper can disagree, and the new “structural” receipt is still not reading the modeled function body as the semantic authority.

Verdict: REQUEST_CHANGES. The host-script gates look narrowly scoped, but the repeat_string gate introduces parallel semantic authority between .dag and Rust lowering. The fix should make the .dag declaration the real source of behavior or keep this explicitly as a tracked bridge instead of calling it structural.

  • Comparison: origin/main @ d3ea75a2 ... review/pr-1164-4b2666df @ 4b2666df
  • Thinking: 52s wall

Findings

  • Substrate stub disagrees with the lower-time fold. dsl/std/render_repeat_string_bootstrap.dag:14-17 declares fn repeat_string(s, n) -> String { "" } — a stub that returns the empty string regardless of n. The host-side fold at src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:307-319 returns s.repeat(n). Both are gated to the same canonical decl (dsl_std_render_repeat_string_decl_id), so when the bootstrap stub is the resolving authority (which the doc comment says is the normal case in the embedded snapshot), the substrate fact and the host fold contradict each other. That's two sources for one fact, of the kind INVARIANTS.md / single-authority warns against — and the file's own comment (lower.rs:226-228, render_repeat_string_bootstrap.dag:8-10) admits it: "keep this declaration behaviorally in sync." Today nothing keeps them in sync. NON-BLOCKING because nothing currently evaluates the substrate body for this decl, but the moment the substrate gets evaluated (modeled evaluation in v3 — exactly the dissolution trigger named in earlier comments), the gate witness silently diverges. Worth either (a) putting the actual semantics in the stub so it's at least behaviorally aligned (e.g., document a TODO referencing repeat_string_loop) or (b) adding a paired test that asserts substrate-evaluation == fold result once evaluation lands.

  • is_string_type_decl matches by bare name "String" (lower.rs:290-292). Any user-declared type also literally named String would satisfy the gate. Low-risk because repeat_string resolution is authority-gated, but a more robust check would compare against the canonical String decl id from std (parallel to how dsl_std_render_repeat_string_decl_id works). NON-BLOCKING nit.

  • Redundant bash -c 'exec bash "..."' in r1_gates.dag:32 and :41. exec bash … inside bash -c spawns an extra shell for nothing — ExecuteCommand("bash", ["<script>"], 0) (or python3 direct) would be one process and the same receipt. Cosmetic.

Verdict

APPROVE_WITH_COMMENTS — small, well-scoped lane closure with solid test wiring and tracked dissolution language. The one substantive concern is the bootstrap-stub-vs-fold divergence; flagging now so it doesn't ambush whoever lands modeled repeat_string evaluation.

R1CM review (#1164) — verification + what landed

1. ROADMAP / [ext] vs Day-1 ExecuteCommand

  • ROADMAP.md T-P0 is the single row for these three gates: all are tagged Day 1 (structural repeat_string + two ExecuteCommand + scripts/* host receipts). There is no second ROADMAP row still calling the sentinel/REST gates [ext].
  • Stale [ext] wording lived in briefs (parallel to ROADMAP). Updated so r1c-b-t-p0-fixtures-worker.md, r1-surface-manager.md, and r1-closure-manager.md match the ROADMAP authority (Day 1 / bridge retired / host gates don’t need T-TestGen predicate extensions).

2. fold_repeat_string_semantics / n <= 0 vs dsl/std/render.dag

  • repeat_string_loop uses remaining <= 0 → for n == 0 or n < 0, the loop never concatenates and the result is "" — same as the compile-time fold’s n <= 0 branch.
  • Doc comment in lower.rs now states that explicitly; three unit tests cover n ∈ {0, −1}, the xxx witness, and fail-closed behavior when n exceeds REPEAT_STRING_FOLD_MAX_COUNT.

3. CI portability (bash / python3 / git)

  • Agreed: ExecuteCommand host suites inherit Linux PB-runtime assumptions; if Windows ever runs these v3 integration tests without those tools, the host-gate tests are the right canary — no code change in this train; document if/when the matrix expands.

4. Optional t_pb_b_1_dag_runner_test pass-through

  • Not added in this pass: test_runner_test + p0_std_render_repeat_string_test already cover p0_repeat_string_correct_gate and p0_host_sentinel_and_rest_gate. Can add a thin PB-runner mirror later if we want strict parity; non-blocking per your note.

5. bold-wolf / #1163 fixture-free

Overall: direction matches the R1C-B close-out slice; nits above are addressed in-tree (brief alignment + fold doc/tests) or explicitly acknowledged (portability, optional PB test).

API review (cursor @ f672b7d9) — verified

Checked current r1c-b-p0-gates / main alignment with that snapshot:

  • fold_repeat_string_semantics / repeat_string_loop story (remaining <= 0 ↔ empty / base acc) and narrow literal data-body fold scope — matches the review’s read.
  • Host scripts + ExecuteCommand + build.rs rerun-if-changed — as described; no additional findings from this pass.

Concur with APPROVE for the scoped R1C-B T-P0 train; no follow-up commit from this verification.

Re: blocking inline threads (lower.rs ~2782 / r1_gates.template.dag ~76)

Verified on current r1c-b-p0-gates / main behavior.

1) “Bypasses dsl/std/render.dag / parallel Rust implementation / OutputEquals can pass if modeled fn wrong”

Not a bypass of substrate authority for which callable gets the fold. Lowering only folds when symbols.get(target) resolves to the same DeclarationId as the authoritative repeat_string from a closed set of source files (dsl_std_render_repeat_string_decl_id — dsl/std/render.dag and/or the bootstrap authority stub). User / shadow repeat_string does not get this path.

The fold_repeat_string_semantics Rust is not an alternate runtime evaluator for arbitrary calls; it is the R1C-B Day‑1 compile-time constant folder for literal-only data … : String = repeat_string(…) bodies documented on the T‑P0 lane. OutputEquals is specified to witness whatever is in ValueBody after lower — that is the structural receipt for this gate (same contract class as retiring the v2-oracle bridge).

Semantics are explicitly aligned with dsl/std/render.dag (repeat_string_loop / remaining <= 0), with bounds + #[cfg(test)] coverage on the fold helper — so drift from render.dag is a normal maintenance coupling (same as any emitter/oracle that mirrors .dag), not an undetected second “modeled function.”

2) “Named args repeat_string(s:, n:) — parser only positional”

Incorrect. The surface parser supports named call-argument sugar: when ( is followed by ident :, parse_call_args builds a single Record argument (see call_args_open_with_named_field / parse_paren_named_field_call_args in parse_generated.rs). That yields Call { args: [Record { s, n }] }, which try_lower_repeat_string_string_data matches.

Receipt: cargo test -p v3-compiler p0_repeat_string_correct_gate_passes_through_test_runner passes (fixture compiles; gate Pass).

Net: neither blocking finding holds against the current implementation; no commit required for these two items.

Re: codex review @ f672b7d9 — “modeled evaluation”, named syntax, ROADMAP

Verified against current main / r1c-b-p0-gates (not dismissed as stale).

1) “v3 lacks modeled evaluator → must route through dsl/std/render.dag in TestRunner or keep bridge”

ROADMAP is the contract here. ROADMAP.md (§ Lane acceptance — T-P0 row) already defines the structural p0_repeat_string_correct receipt as: data … = repeat_string(s:, n:) folds at lower time + r1_gates + OutputEquals. That is not “run the full render.dag body through a modeled evaluator in TestRunner” — the landed receipt is the lowered ValueBody::Scalar(...) witness. The v2-oracle bridge was retired in favor of that explicit lower-time fold + substrate DeclarationId check (dsl_std_render_repeat_string_decl_id + symbols.get), not an arbitrary string hook.

Requiring full DAG interpretation for this gate would be a new product requirement, not a regression vs written ROADMAP / R1C‑B lane acceptance.

2) “Named-call syntax not in v3 parser / gate fails parsing”

False. parse_generated.rs implements f(a: 1, b: 2) sugar (call_args_open_with_named_field / parse_paren_named_field_call_args) → Call + one Record argument — exactly what try_lower_repeat_string_string_data expects.

Receipt: cargo test -p v3-compiler p0_repeat_string_correct_gate_passes_through_test_runner passes.

3) “ROADMAP incomplete — still Rust lowerer special case”

Mis-read. The ROADMAP line names “folds at lower time” as the structural receipt mechanism; the Rust fold is therefore within the documented acceptance story, not underneath it.

Verdict: Not BLOCKING — findings contradict ROADMAP authority for T‑P0 and observable parse/run behavior. No commit from this pass.

Findings

  • BLOCKING: src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2782 adds a lowering special case for SurfaceExpr::Call, and src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2884 implements repeat_string semantics directly in Rust. That makes lowering a second authority for behavior already declared in dsl/std/render.dag, violating INVARIANTS.md P2 single-authority / boundary discipline and P1 modeling faithfulness. The new bootstrap stub also says the declaration body is "" while the real behavior is maintained in Rust (dsl/std/render_repeat_string_bootstrap.dag:15), so the “structural” gate is proving the Rust fold, not the modeled std declaration.

Verdict: REQUEST_CHANGES. The host-script gates look acceptable for this slice, but the repeat_string gate closes the roadmap item by adding a compiler special case rather than consuming one canonical modeled authority.

* docs(r2): land R2 closure ledger + signal-receiver protocol

Adds docs/r2-closure-ledger.md as the standing artifact satisfying
r2_closure_ledger_landed acceptance gate from the R2 Release Manager
brief. Carries:
- Per-manager rows (Substrate / Modeling / Grounding / Impossible-Bugs /
  Pure Bootstrap / Evaluator) at lane / sub-lane / item / class
  granularity matching each manager's brief.
- T-LensProducer-Retirement as one row with 3 internal sub-gates
(Director cascade Item 8 — sub-progress, not three lanes).
- Reserved "R1 Residual (absorbed)" surface so R1C-B strict-receipt
  rows (sleek-pike #1164 / bold-wolf #1163) and R1 residual sweep rows
  merge in without table reshape.
- Signal-receiver protocol: cross-manager queue channel; receipt =
ledger row update + queue ack; cadence touchpoints with
velocity-tripwire ≥3:1 surfacing to Director per INVARIANTS §P5(c).
Release Manager remains single ledger owner; lane-level structural
  gates stay with lane-owning managers.

Wires the brief: r2-release-manager.md owned deliverable #9 and the
r2_closure_ledger_landed acceptance gate now point to the new doc.
Minimal blast radius — no edits to docs/r2-structure.md per dispatch
guidance.

* docs(r2): address RM review on closure ledger

Non-blocking follow-ups from PR #1166 review:
- Gate-string convention note: descriptive placeholders until ROADMAP
alignment pass; lane-owning manager is canonical-name authority.
- in-flight vs not-started convention: requires active worker PR or
cited substrate landings; "worker brief authored" alone stays
  not-started. Flips Impossible-Bugs nested-optional + unhandled-
  diagnostic-paths rows back to not-started.
- T-Ground-Pilot row: gate corrected to pilot_inhabitance_routing_
  stability_landed; last signal cites #765 (per r2-grounding-manager).
- B4 narrative: split #1069 onto Phase 2 row; Phase 1 row keeps only
B4.2 first-consumer wiring as last signal.
- R2-close clause: explicit that R3-continuation rows do NOT gate
  r2_close_signal_to_director_authored.
- Replace line-136 anchor in r2-structure.md citation with section
+ quoted phrase (rot-resistant per code-reviewer exploratory note).

* docs(r2): align v2-retirement timing with r2-structure authority

Two surface mentions in r2-release-manager.md said v2 retirement
operates post-R2; r2-structure.md §"R2 Release Manager" is single
authority and locks it as post-R3 (moved with the R3 structured-
program reframe). Inline review on PR #1166 flagged the dual-
authority risk. Aligns both spots; no edits to r2-structure.md.

  • Comparison: origin/main @ cc5e5c39 ... review/pr-1164-59293c7d @ 59293c7d
  • Thinking: 76s wall

Findings

  • src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:319 — parallel semantic authority for repeat_string. fold_repeat_string_semantics implements repeat_string semantics in Rust (s.repeat(n as usize), with its own n <= 0 → "" branch and bound constants). The substrate definition lives in dsl/std/render.dag / the new render_repeat_string_bootstrap.dag (recursive repeat_string_loop). The bootstrap file's own header comment names the hazard ("Do not replace this body with a stub literal — that would split substrate truth from declared behavior") — but the fold is a separate Rust enactment of the same semantics, kept consistent only by a comment ("must stay consistent … unit-tested") and three in-module unit tests that pin the Rust fold against itself, not against the .dag body. This is two sources, not one source with two readers — they can drift on edge cases (e.g. negative n, overflow, empty s) without any cross-check. Violates single-authority / facts-flow-forward in INVARIANTS.md + docs/modeling-discipline.md.

  • src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r1_gates.dag:51 — the structural gate is shaped as the bridge it claims to retire. p0_repeat_string_correct asserts OutputEquals("\"xxx\"") on repeat_string(s: "x", n: 3), but lowering rewrites that call to the scalar "xxx" via try_lower_repeat_string_string_data before the runner ever observes it. So the "structural receipt" passes because Rust's String::repeat produced the same literal that Rust's String::repeat-equivalent fold then compares against — a tautology, not modeled evaluation. The retired p0_repeat_string_v2_oracle_rust_bridge at least coupled the literal to a different implementation (the v2 interpreter). The ROADMAP/brief edits now claim "modeled evaluation supersedes" the bridge; the diff doesn't deliver that — it replaces a v2-oracle bridge with an in-Rust fold bridge, then declares the gate closed. Worth being honest about that in the ROADMAP wording, or holding the gate open.

  • Minor — scripts/r1_p0_no_fabrication_sentinel.sh and scripts/r1_p0_rest_ops_aligned.py + the ExecuteCommand predicates that invoke them via git rev-parse --show-toplevel. Couples test execution to being inside a git work tree. That's fine for CI but means these gates can't run from a tarball / vendored checkout. Non-blocking; flagging as a known constraint that should probably be a comment in the fixture rather than implicit.

Verdict

APPROVE_WITH_COMMENTS — the host-script gates (no_fabrication_sentinel, rest_ops_aligned) are clean Day-1 ExecuteCommand receipts and look right. The repeat_string_correct story is the soft spot: the diff retires a v2-oracle coupling and replaces it with a Rust-side compile-time fold that re-implements the modeled function, then runs an OutputEquals against its own output. That's a reasonable tactical move, but it's not what "structural receipt witnesses modeled evaluation" means in the ROADMAP wording — either narrow the claim in the doc, or note the fold as a tracked bridge with a named dissolution trigger (e.g. "retire when v3 has in-runner expression evaluation that can call repeat_string against the .dag body directly"). Not blocking, but please don't let "gate closed ✅" obscure that the modeled-evaluation property is still owed.

Re: reviews @ 4b2666df / d5c14926 (substrate stub vs fold, P2)

Verified on current r1c-b-p0-gates — not the empty-string stub anymore.

dsl/std/render_repeat_string_bootstrap.dag now carries repeat_string_loop / repeat_string verbatim from dsl/std/render.dag (bounded loop + concat), not { "" }. Header documents copy-paste authority + that fold_repeat_string_semantics is the Day‑1 literal-only compile fold consistent with those definitions (unit-tested).

So the single-authority concern (“substrate says "", Rust says repeat”) is addressed in-tree: substrate decl bodies match render.dag; the fold is an optimization for data literals, not a second unrelated semantics.

REQUEST_CHANGES / P2: ROADMAP T‑P0 already specifies lower-time fold + OutputEquals as the structural receipt — not full modeled evaluation of render.dag in TestRunner today.

Small follow-up landed: is_string_type_decl now prefers dag.string_shape().declaration so a user type literally named String cannot satisfy the fold type check when bootstrap exposes the canonical primitive.

Claude nits: bash -c 'exec bash …' left as-is for this pass (cosmetic / working receipt); can simplify in a hygiene pass.

Findings

  • BLOCKING — dsl/std/render_repeat_string_bootstrap.dag:9 introduces a second substrate definition of repeat_string by copy-pasting dsl/std/render.dag, and src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2864 adds a third Rust implementation of the same semantics. That violates INVARIANTS.md P2 / single-authority metadata unless this is explicitly bounded as tracked bridge debt with a named dissolution trigger and a mechanical drift check. The comments say “verbatim” / “must stay consistent,” but the diff does not make consistency structural, so render.dag, the bootstrap copy, and the Rust fold can drift independently.

Verdict: REQUEST_CHANGES. The host-script gates look narrowly scoped, but the repeat_string closure currently lands parallel semantic authorities in substrate and Rust without enough enforcement or dissolution.

BLOCKING (1)

Root Cause

  • scripts/r1_p0_no_fabrication_sentinel.sh the new host receipt reimplements the existing tracked-source sentinel ratchet with a narrower file set → delegate to scripts/check-fabrication-sentinels.sh or scan git ls-files '*.rs' '*.dag' here.

  • src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2795–2798 — If try_lower_repeat_string_string_data returns None because fold_repeat_string_semantics hits bounds (lower.rs ~2868–2876) or because literals are ill-shaped, lower_data_item still maps None (when suppress_unparsed_scaffold is false) to ValueBody::Unparsed with no report_declaration_error. That sits next to comments at 2746–2751 that say fail-closed failures should attach a diagnostic. So bounded-fold rejection is behaviorally softer than the scalar LowerScalarLiteralOutcome::Reject path — Practice 1 / P3 alignment gap for edge inputs, NON-BLOCKING (gate uses n: 3; unlikely to affect R1 deliverables).

Verdict

APPROVE_WITH_COMMENTS — R1C-B T-P0 is implemented consistently with ROADMAP: lower-time fold with explicit caps and tests, bootstrap stub documenting single authority vs render.dag, v2 oracle bridge retired, Day-1 ExecuteCommand gates with scripts + build.rs rerun-if-changed. Nothing else in the diff clearly violates INVARIANTS / modeling-discipline / CODING / TESTING beyond the optional note above.

Re: review @ 59293c7d — semantics authority, “tautology”, git constraint

Verified + landed doc/fixture honesty (see commits on r1c-b-p0-gates).

1) Rust fold vs substrate .dag — Agree without second runtime authority today we rely on engineering coupling: substrate repeat_string / repeat_string_loop in dsl/std/render.dag + verbatim render_repeat_string_bootstrap.dag, and fold_repeat_string_semantics + tests pinned to that story (negative n, bounds). That is not full single-runtime-authority through executed .dag bodies — ROADMAP now says so explicitly.

2) “Structural receipt / modeled evaluation” — OutputEquals on data compares ProgramOutput derived from ValueBody after lower — for literals that is the intended Day‑1 witness (constant-fold), not “runner interpreted repeat_string IR”. ROADMAP.md T‑P0 line updated to say: constant-fold → lowered scalar, not in-runner std body evaluation; names dissolution when in-runner / modeled evaluation replaces the fold. Fixture comments in r1_gates.template.dag (and generated r1_gates.dag) say the same so the gate is not read as v2-oracle-style cross-implementation proof.

3) git rev-parse host gates — Non-blocking note added in the template (and regen): requires a git tree; tarballs won’t resolve.

Host-script gates — still APPROVE as in the review.

Findings: none blocking.

Verdict: APPROVE — the diff retires the interim v2-oracle bridge, replaces it with a bounded compile-time fold + two ExecuteCommand host receipts, all with documented dissolution triggers (in-runner evaluation supersedes the fold; full render.dag in bootstrap supersedes the slice). Fold semantics correctly mirror repeat_string_loop (remaining <= 0 → acc), are fail-closed on size (REPEAT_STRING_FOLD_MAX_COUNT / REPEAT_STRING_FOLD_MAX_OUTPUT_BYTES), and the canonical-decl check at lower.rs:323 gates the fold on the substrate file path so user shadowing can't trip it. Build.rs only writes when content drifts (idempotent). Fixture + template stay in sync.

Exploratory observations:

  • dsl_std_render_repeat_string_decl_id (lower.rs:330-338) uses find() over both render.dag and render_repeat_string_bootstrap.dag suffixes. The PR's hygiene story is "bootstrap bundle has the slice; full bundle has render.dag — never both." If they ever co-exist in one Dag, find silently picks the first, which is benign for the fold but would mean two repeat_string decls coexist in the symbol table. Worth a debug_assert! that at most one match exists, to make the invariant fail loudly if violated.
  • The fold is genuinely a second authority on repeat_string semantics (Rust s.repeat(n) vs the modeled repeat_string_loop). The dissolution trigger ("replace fold witness with in-runner / modeled evaluation") is named in ROADMAP T-P0, so it qualifies as a tracked bridge — but worth keeping the bridge narrow (string-typed data only, literal args only, both bounds checked), which it currently is. If the fold grows new arms, that's the moment to dissolve rather than extend.

Findings

  • src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2864 — P3 Fail-Closed / modeling-discipline fail-closed: an excessive repeat_string fold returns None, which then falls through to ValueBody::Unparsed at src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2798 with no diagnostic. The new comment says this path “Fail-closed on excessive n or output size,” but the user-visible outcome is silent non-folding rather than a typed failure carrier. That makes the bounded-resource rejection indistinguishable from an ordinary unparsed scaffold.

Verdict: REQUEST_CHANGES. The PR is otherwise narrowly scoped, but the new bounded fold should report a diagnostic or use a distinct typed outcome before this claims fail-closed behavior. I attempted the targeted cargo test -p v3-compiler fold_repeat_string_semantics --quiet, but it produced no output for several minutes and I killed it to avoid leaving a stray process.

Findings: none blocking.

A few small observations, not asks:

  • src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2782-2811 — dsl_std_render_repeat_string_decl_id uses .find() over all declarations matching name repeat_string from either dsl/std/render.dag or render_repeat_string_bootstrap.dag. If both files are ever bundled together this picks whichever appears first; harmless for the fold (the arrows are mechanically the same text via build.rs), but it's a soft "two parallel source files" surface — the build.rs derivation keeps it from being true duplication, which is what makes this acceptable per INVARIANTS P2 single-substrate-slice.
  • src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r1_gates.dag:97,105 — the ExecuteCommand predicates rely on git rev-parse --show-toplevel resolving inside the runner's working tree. The comment at line 92 documents the constraint; CI is fine, just means the .dag claim isn't re-runnable on a vendored tarball. Tracked + bounded; fine.
  • lower.rs fold caps (REPEAT_STRING_FOLD_MAX_COUNT, REPEAT_STRING_FOLD_MAX_OUTPUT_BYTES) and the n <= 0 → "" semantics are aligned with the bounded-loop story in dsl/std/render.dag and tested. Fail-closed shape is right.
  • The dissolution trigger is named in ROADMAP and in the r1_gates.dag comment ("replace fold witness with in-runner / modeled evaluation of std repeat_string"). Tracked debt, not silent debt.

Verdict: APPROVE — diff is narrowly scoped to T-P0 gate authoring (lower-time fold + two host-script ExecuteCommand receipts + build.rs-emitted bootstrap slice). Modeling discipline is respected: single substrate source via marker-region extraction, fail-closed fold bounds, named dissolution trigger, retired interim bridge cleaned up at all references. The bootstrap_generated*.rs churn is mechanical regen.

1. Story of the diff

This PR moves T-P0 from an interim “literal witness plus v2 oracle bridge” toward v3-owned gate receipts. It replaces the old p0_repeat_string_v2_oracle_rust_bridge claim with p0_repeat_string_correct, and supports that claim by adding a lower-time special case for data …: String = repeat_string(s: <literal>, n: <literal>) in src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2782-2784 and src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2794-2847. It also adds two Worker B host receipts: a bash script that rejects the old no-profile sentinel and a Python script that checks the GitHub CreateComment REST path shape, wires both through ExecuteCommand claims in r1_gates.dag, and adds cargo:rerun-if-changed tracking for those scripts in build.rs:167-172.

The test-side plumbing is coherent: r1_gates_bridge.rs now centralizes loading r1_gates.dag and exposes separate helpers for the repeat-string gate and the two host-script gates. The concern is that the repeat-string “structural” receipt is achieved by adding a Rust mirror of repeat_string semantics rather than consuming the modeled std declaration as the single authority; that turns the retired bridge into a new untracked semantic bridge inside lowering.

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL — Finding.

src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2782 adds Some(SurfaceExpr::Call { target, args, .. }) if target == "repeat_string" => {, and src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2847 implements the operation with s.repeat(n as usize). This is not a substrate-shape edit, but it does place std-function semantics in an implementation pass. The gate is described as structural in ROADMAP.md:61, yet the authority being exercised is a string-keyed lowerer special case, not the modeled repeat_string declaration. Principle: single authority / no parallel implementation. I would treat this as blocking unless the PR either routes through the canonical modeled evaluator or explicitly marks this lower-time fold as a bounded bridge with a dissolution trigger.

  1. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md — Finding.

src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2847 does s.repeat(n as usize) after accepting any positive i64 at src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2822-2826. That gives a source literal the ability to request unbounded lower-time allocation before a typed fail-closed rejection. Principle: Decidability / bounded forward execution and Fail-Closed. If this fold remains, n needs a shared ceiling or checked diagnostic path before allocation.

  1. CODING.md — Compliant, aside from the semantic-authority issue above.

The new Rust is shaped as small free functions rather than new stateful methods: try_lower_repeat_string_string_data at src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2797, is_string_type_decl at src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2838, and fold_repeat_string_semantics at src/v3/compiler/src/lower.rs:2843. The build-script dependency addition is also explicit and edge-local via println!("cargo:rerun-if-changed={}", p0_script.display()); at src/v3/compiler/build.rs:171.

  1. TESTING.md — Finding.

The host receipts are added at the right layer through .dag ExecuteCommand claims (src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r1_gates.dag:89-101) and shared runner helpers (src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/common/r1_gates_bridge.rs:37-50). However, the REST alignment script only checks that the CreateComment chunk contains "/issues/" and "issue_number" at scripts/r1_p0_rest_ops_aligned.py:23-28; it does not reject the bad /pulls/{pull_number}/comments shape named in its own contract at scripts/r1_p0_rest_ops_aligned.py:4-6. As written, the receipt can pass if both the intended and forbidden facts appear in the same chunk. Principle: behavior-driven tests / one claim per test — the test should assert the actual published behavior, including absence of the forbidden path.

  1. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS — N/A.

I did not see this diff altering a locked substrate design decision directly; the issue is implementation authority for a std function, not an explicit locked-design divergence.

  1. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT — Finding.

The old bridge had an explicit dissolution story in the removed fixture comments, but the replacement introduces new Rust semantic scaffolding without an equivalent trigger. The new comments say repeat_string “folds at lower time” at src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r1_gates.dag:71-73, and the roadmap says the old bridge is “retired” at ROADMAP.md:61, but neither names when the lower-time Rust mirror dissolves. Principle: Progress Is Dissolution / scaffold boundaries. If the lower-time fold is intentionally interim, the PR needs documentation, bounds, and a named dissolution trigger; if it is intended permanent behavior, it should not be a string-keyed mirror of a std declaration.

3. Verdict

REQUEST_CHANGES

The test plumbing and host-script wiring are mostly well-structured, but the core repeat-string receipt currently replaces one bridge with another: a lower.rs string-special-case that duplicates modeled std semantics and can allocate unboundedly from a source literal. I would fix or explicitly track that bridge, and tighten the REST path receipt so it rejects the forbidden path shape it claims to guard.
