Summary

  • marks docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md complete / dissolved as of ~2026-04-29
  • records R1 closure via release acceptance: r1_release_acceptance.dag, one strict PB gate, five ReleaseDeferredClaim rows, and the stern-newt-859 #1127 interim T-P0 bridge
  • refreshes R1C-B / R1C-D status, removes stale 5f405cc8e-as-HEAD wording, and points PB census counts at live SG-0 census authority
  • tightens the remaining R1C-B [ext] ledger rows with successor lane and dissolution triggers
  • compresses the old manager brief into an archival closure record; long-form audit trail remains in git history at parent SHA 041ed6780

Scope

This PR is intentionally docs-only after the Worker A / Worker B de-dupe. Sleek-pike owns the R1C-B code stack (p0_repeat_string_correct, bridge retirement, and [ext] fixture work). The duplicate Worker A implementation that briefly lived on this branch has been dropped, leaving #1163 as the r1-closure-manager.md closure ledger PR.

Validation

  • pre-push cargo fmt --all --check

R1 Closure Manager — review (draft #1163)

What works

  • Status line (COMPLETE / DISSOLVED) matches path (a) + Director disposition.
  • Dual surfaces for R1C-D (r1_pb_census_gates.dag vs r1_release_acceptance.dag) are explained clearly — avoids conflating census RED with release acceptance Pass.
  • R1C-B row correctly separates stern-newt-859 #1127 interim bridge vs remaining ledger (structural p0_repeat_string_correct, two [ext] gates).
  • Snapshot pointer (origin/main @ 041ed6780) is better than freezing 5f405cc8e forever.
  • Remaining Ledger table matches Operator / Director fast-path framing.

Scope / sequencing (please clarify in PR body)

Per latest dispatch, bold-wolf was queued Worker A on p0_repeat_string_correct + bridge removal (code). This PR is docs-only (r1-closure-manager.md). That’s fine if intentional — say explicitly whether:

  1. Ledger lands first, T-P0 PR follows in this session, or
  2. Docs-only PR and Worker A code moves to another branch/session.

Avoid ambiguity for Operator (“why no r1_gates diff?”).

Content / preservation

Large cuts vs old brief (Orient depth, Authority, Sub-briefs listing, detailed RED count table): acceptable if you intend a compressed archival brief — add one sentence in the PR summary: long-form audit trail remains in git history at parent SHA. Optionally restore one bullet pointing at THESIS.md §Tests are structural data so strict-reading philosophy isn’t orphaned.

Small nits

  • ## Working State heading casing vs ## Working state elsewhere in repo — minor consistency.
  • r2-structure.md#transition-mechanics anchor may differ on GitHub renderer — verify click-target after merge.
  • Draft title bold-wolf-592 → prefer docs: dissolve R1 Closure Manager brief (path (a)) (or similar) before ready for review.

CI

Docs-only — cargo fmt / markdown unlikely to matter; still ensure no policy violation on brief edits.

Happy to approve for merge once PR description states dispatch ordering vs Worker A code and title isn’t the raw session slug.

APPROVE — Documentation-only change dissolving the R1 closure manager brief into a COMPLETE/DISSOLVED record. The new content accurately summarizes the closure path, names the dissolution trigger, references concrete fixtures (r1_release_acceptance.dag, r1_pb_census_gates.dag) and PRs (#1127/#1128/#1129), and preserves the ledger of remaining debt with explicit downstream owners. No code, invariants, or substrate touched; nothing in the diff to flag.

Addressed the docs-review items that were valid for the draft: title/body now state dispatch ordering and archival-history intent, and the brief keeps a THESIS strict-reading cross-ref plus repo-style heading casing. Newer R1C-B dispatch makes this branch Worker A, so I am converting the PR stack from docs-only into the structural + bridge-removal PR before requesting final review.\n\n— sent from bold-wolf-592

1. Story of the diff

This PR dissolves docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md from an active R1 dispatch brief into a post-close ledger. The load-bearing mechanism is “path (a): release acceptance”: the brief now points to r1_release_acceptance.dag as the closure surface, states that it carries one strict PB gate plus five Director-approved ReleaseDeferredClaim rows, and records the adjacent bridge/design-lock PRs at docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:5-11. It also rewrites the lane table from “owned work to dispatch” into “closed surfaces and remaining debt,” separating the live census fixture, the release-acceptance fixture, and the residual ledger at docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:31-48. The important modeling choice is explicit: R1 closes by release acceptance, not by pretending every strict census gate is green; RED strict receipts are supposed to be carried forward as named deferrals at docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:20-22.

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL (substrate vs implementation).

N/A — this is a documentation-only diff to docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md; it references .dag fixtures but does not modify substrate types, Dag-resident facts, Rust implementation, variants, or fields.

  1. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md.

Compliant — fail-closed / facts-flow-forward discipline is preserved in the main closure story: docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:20-22 explicitly says R1 is not closed by pretending RED strict gates are green, but by representing remaining RED receipts as explicit release deferrals with named target lanes.

  1. CODING.md.

N/A — no Rust code, helper placement, method/free-function shape, error/result carrier, or implementation naming changed.

  1. TESTING.md.

Compliant — no new test is required for this docs-only dissolution, and the brief points to existing behavior evidence rather than inventing prose authority: runner-backed R1C-B at docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:46, runner-wired census gates at docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:47, and release acceptance passing at HEAD at docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:48.

  1. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS.

Compliant — the diff does not silently diverge from the locked “tests are structural data” direction; it keeps that strict-reading source in the brief at docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:17-19, then names the Director-approved release-deferral mechanism at docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:20-22 and docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:34.

  1. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT.

Finding — BLOCKING for this dissolution brief.

docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:55 says: | \p0_no_fabrication_sentinel| Remains[ext] T-P0 debt per ROADMAP / scaffold authority. | docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:56says:| p0_rest_ops_aligned| Remains[ext] T-P0 debt per ROADMAP / scaffold authority. | These are residual scaffold/debt entries in the manager’s final ledger, but they do not name the exact ROADMAP row/anchor, target lane, or dissolution trigger. That is weaker than the adjacent tracked bridge row forp0_repeat_string_correct, which says the bridge dissolves when modeled v3 evaluation can witness repeat_stringdirectly atdocs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:54. Since this brief is declaring the manager dissolved and future work must land against successor authority at docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:64-66, the remaining [ext] entries need the same concrete handoff shape: documented authority, bounds, and named dissolution trigger.

3. Verdict

REQUEST_CHANGES. The dissolution story is otherwise clean and carefully avoids claiming RED gates are green, but the final ledger leaves two [ext] T-P0 debts with only a vague “per ROADMAP / scaffold authority” handoff. For a manager-dissolution PR, that should be tightened before merge by naming the exact downstream row/lane and dissolution trigger for each entry.

BLOCKING (1)

Root Cause

  • src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r1_gates.dag p0_repeat_string_correct supplies an empty RepeatStringModel marker instead of the actual std.render repeat_string declaration → make the predicate subject resolve to the real modeled behavior and have the runner evaluate that compiled Dag, or keep the receipt tracked as a scaffold until that path exists.

Non-blocking — Improvements (fix in-PR if easy, else defer to roadmap)

  • docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md The THESIS.md §"Tests are structural data" cross-reference does not resolve in THESIS.md; route it to the actual thesis claim or the DB-15 design-test-infra authority in a docs cleanup lane.

ROADMAP — Incomplete

  • p0_repeat_string_correct: The gate is runner-wired but not yet a structural receipt for dsl/std/render.dag repeat_string because it proves a Rust-local evaluator over fixture data.

⚠️ The R1 closure brief should not dissolve this gate until BehavioralObservation consumes the modeled subject rather than a parallel Rust implementation.

  • Comparison: origin/main @ 041ed678 ... review/pr-1163-f0b4884a @ f0b4884a
  • Thinking: 34s wall

Findings

None. The diff matches the intent in docs/design-test-infra.md for BehavioralObservation (observe subject + sample vs independently declared expected). Runner behavior is fail-closed on bad payloads (test_runner.rs ~1721–1725), compile failure (~1727–1730), resolution errors (~1733–1743), unknown subjects (NotYetImplemented, ~1751–1754), and bounded repeat (~2974+ in diff). The R1 brief is explicitly marked dissolved with handoff and ledger rows (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md), consistent with P5-style closure rather than leaving an “ACTIVE” ghost.

Nothing in this diff touches substrate Dag modeling discipline as defined for compiler passes; test-runner predicates are implementation-layer per the review rubric.

Verdict

APPROVE — Documentation dissolution is explicit and pointed at successor authority/fixtures; BehavioralObservation wiring for repeat_string_model replaces the interim bridge with a named, bounded evaluator and updates integration tests accordingly. No concrete violation of the pinned INVARIANTS.md / modeling / CODING.md / TESTING.md bars surfaced from the diff.

Exploratory (optional): Long-term, eval_repeat_string_observation encodes repetition in Rust (test_runner.rs + eval_repeat_string_observation), parallel to repeat_string in std — acceptable as test-harness authority today; only matters if someone expects this predicate to execute the compiled claim’s lowered repeat_string rather than mirror semantics. Not a finding without a locked thesis requirement in the diff.

Verified against current #1163 head (3a1526f28): the blocking RepeatStringModel / BehavioralObservation implementation is no longer present on this branch after the Worker A de-dupe reset. Current #1163 only changes docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md, so that code finding was valid for the superseded f0b4884a stack but is stale for the current PR diff.

I did fix the non-blocking docs concern in 3a1526f28: the strict-reading bullet now points to THESIS.md broadly plus docs/design-test-infra.md DB-15 authority, instead of the non-heading THESIS.md §"Tests are structural data" anchor.

Pure docs change, dissolving a manager brief.

Verdict: APPROVE — Documentation-only update marking the R1 Closure Manager brief as dissolved. The new content is internally consistent: status flipped to COMPLETE/DISSOLVED, lanes summarized with PR receipts, residual debt explicitly named with dissolution triggers (satisfying the tracked-debt requirement), and successor authority pointed at ROADMAP/r2-structure. Nothing in this diff touches code, substrate, or invariants.

APPROVE — docs-only edit dissolving the R1 Closure Manager brief into a closure record. The new content cleanly states the dissolution trigger (release acceptance per #1128), names successor lanes for residual ledger items, and points at live authorities (r1_release_acceptance.dag, sg0_census_test.rs, ROADMAP). No code, invariants, or modeling discipline implicated. Looks clean, no concerns.

APPROVE — Docs-only change dissolving the R1 Closure Manager brief into a closure record. Status flips to COMPLETE/DISSOLVED, and the surviving content (release-acceptance fixture, deferred-claim ledger, residual T-P0 debt rows) is consistent with single-authority routing to ROADMAP and SG-0 census. No code touched, no invariant violations observed.

APPROVE — docs-only dissolution of the R1 Closure Manager brief. The rewrite reflects the path-(a) closure: status flipped to COMPLETE/DISSOLVED, deferred PB census rows are explicitly enumerated with successor lanes / target docs (satisfying the tracked-debt criteria — documented, bounded, named dissolution trigger), and pointers to the live release-acceptance fixture and SG-0 census authority replace stale HEAD-SHA snapshots. No code change, no invariant impact.

* docs(r2): land R2 closure ledger + signal-receiver protocol

Adds docs/r2-closure-ledger.md as the standing artifact satisfying
r2_closure_ledger_landed acceptance gate from the R2 Release Manager
brief. Carries:
- Per-manager rows (Substrate / Modeling / Grounding / Impossible-Bugs /
  Pure Bootstrap / Evaluator) at lane / sub-lane / item / class
  granularity matching each manager's brief.
- T-LensProducer-Retirement as one row with 3 internal sub-gates
(Director cascade Item 8 — sub-progress, not three lanes).
- Reserved "R1 Residual (absorbed)" surface so R1C-B strict-receipt
  rows (sleek-pike #1164 / bold-wolf #1163) and R1 residual sweep rows
  merge in without table reshape.
- Signal-receiver protocol: cross-manager queue channel; receipt =
ledger row update + queue ack; cadence touchpoints with
velocity-tripwire ≥3:1 surfacing to Director per INVARIANTS §P5(c).
Release Manager remains single ledger owner; lane-level structural
  gates stay with lane-owning managers.

Wires the brief: r2-release-manager.md owned deliverable #9 and the
r2_closure_ledger_landed acceptance gate now point to the new doc.
Minimal blast radius — no edits to docs/r2-structure.md per dispatch
guidance.

* docs(r2): address RM review on closure ledger

Non-blocking follow-ups from PR #1166 review:
- Gate-string convention note: descriptive placeholders until ROADMAP
alignment pass; lane-owning manager is canonical-name authority.
- in-flight vs not-started convention: requires active worker PR or
cited substrate landings; "worker brief authored" alone stays
  not-started. Flips Impossible-Bugs nested-optional + unhandled-
  diagnostic-paths rows back to not-started.
- T-Ground-Pilot row: gate corrected to pilot_inhabitance_routing_
  stability_landed; last signal cites #765 (per r2-grounding-manager).
- B4 narrative: split #1069 onto Phase 2 row; Phase 1 row keeps only
B4.2 first-consumer wiring as last signal.
- R2-close clause: explicit that R3-continuation rows do NOT gate
  r2_close_signal_to_director_authored.
- Replace line-136 anchor in r2-structure.md citation with section
+ quoted phrase (rot-resistant per code-reviewer exploratory note).

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* docs(r2): align v2-retirement timing with r2-structure authority

Two surface mentions in r2-release-manager.md said v2 retirement
operates post-R2; r2-structure.md §"R2 Release Manager" is single
authority and locks it as post-R3 (moved with the R3 structured-
program reframe). Inline review on PR #1166 flagged the dual-
authority risk. Aligns both spots; no edits to r2-structure.md.

Findings:
None. The only change in the diff is docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md. It does not touch compiler substrate, tests, or Rust, so CODING.md / TESTING.md are not in play for new implementation. Against INVARIANTS.md and docs/modeling-discipline.md, the update matches P5 (Progress / dissolution): the brief is marked dissolved, Remaining Ledger entries name successor ownership and checkable dissolution language (e.g. lines 55–57, 64–66), and live census authority is explicitly delegated to sg0_census_test.rs (lines 41–42, 75) instead of duplicating counts in the brief. The “closure shape” text (lines 21–23) is consistent with single-authority release semantics rather than two conflicting stories about “all green” vs path (a). Nothing here is a structural modeling violation; it is documentation of a locked program decision.

Verdict: APPROVE — The diff is documentation-only, narrowly scoped to dissolving the R1 Closure Manager brief and recording path (a) acceptance, remaining debt, and cross-refs. No rubric violation grounded in the diff.

Verdict: APPROVE — pure docs change rewriting docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md to mark the manager DISSOLVED and consolidate the residual ledger. Each remaining debt row (p0_repeat_string_correct, p0_no_fabrication_sentinel, p0_rest_ops_aligned) names a documented dissolution trigger and successor lane, satisfying the tracked-debt criteria. Cross-refs to fixtures/PRs are consistent with the narrative. No INVARIANTS / modeling / coding / testing concerns apply.

Findings

None. The diff only updates docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md: it marks the manager COMPLETE / DISSOLVED, replaces stale operational narrative with path-(a) release-acceptance facts, refreshes the HEAD snapshot away from an old SHA, and keeps a Remaining ledger with explicit successor lanes and dissolution language for open T-P0 items — consistent with P5: Progress Is Dissolution and “scaffold with named trigger” (INVARIANTS / modeling-discipline). No compiler code, tests, or substrate; CODING.md / TESTING.md do not apply. Referenced fixture paths (r1_release_acceptance.dag, r1_pb_census_gates.dag, r1_gates.dag) exist in the tree.

Verdict: APPROVE — Narrow documentation change that dissolves the brief and hands off authority cleanly; no rubric violations observed in the diff.

1. Story of the diff

This PR dissolves docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md from an active R1 closure dispatch brief into a completed handoff ledger. The new shape says R1 closed under “path (a)” via r1_release_acceptance.dag, with pb_self_compile_fixed_point still strict and the remaining PB census reds represented as Director-approved ReleaseDeferredClaim rows (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:5-11). It then replaces the old active-lane dispatch table with closed lane statuses, a current working-state snapshot, and a remaining ledger that routes unresolved T-P0 and PB census debt to successor authority instead of leaving the R1 Closure Manager alive (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:28-58). The final dissolution section makes the lifecycle explicit: R1 manager scope ends here, and future work belongs to R2/R3 manager briefs or ROADMAP ledger rows (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:60-67).

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL (substrate vs implementation).

N/A — diff is docs-only in docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md; it references .dag fixtures and SG-0 census authority but does not modify substrate types, Dag-resident data, cross-pass compiler state, or implementation Rust.

  1. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md.

Compliant — Progress Is Dissolution / single-authority discipline is handled explicitly: the brief states R1 closes by release acceptance without pretending red strict census gates are green (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:21-23), names SG-0 census as the live count authority (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:41-43), and routes residual rows through ReleaseDeferredClaim / downstream ledger authority (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:49, docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:58).

  1. CODING.md.

N/A — no Rust code, functions, helpers, method surfaces, error/result shapes, or implementation modules are changed.

  1. TESTING.md.

Compliant — no new tests are required for a docs-only manager-status dissolution, and the doc keeps the test authority on behavior surfaces that already exist: runner-backed R1C-B, runner-wired R1C-D, and r1_release_acceptance.dag passing at HEAD (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:45-49) rather than introducing a host-only or prose-only acceptance claim.

  1. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS.

Compliant — the diff references the locked structural-test/DB-15 direction rather than silently changing it: THESIS and design-test-infra.md remain the reason release gates are .dag data (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:17-20), while the deviation from “all strict census gates green” is made explicit as release acceptance plus named deferrals (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:21-23).

  1. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT.

Compliant — the remaining temporary shapes are ledgered, not left as loose TODOs: p0_repeat_string_correct names the bridge and dissolution condition (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:55), the two [ext] T-P0 rows name successor lane and pass conditions (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:56-57), and PB census reds are bounded to downstream R2/R3 rows named by ReleaseDeferredClaim (docs/briefs/r1-closure-manager.md:58).

3. Verdict

APPROVE. This is a clean docs dissolution: it removes the active-manager posture, preserves .dag/SG-0 authority, and converts remaining work into explicit ledgered deferrals with named closure conditions. I did not find a diff-line-backed invariant violation.
