Description

This workers PR introduces pagination for fetching "Opaque Tokens" and updates API Key endpoints to support pagination. This is technically a breaking change as API Key endpoints previously returned all API Keys without pagination.

This PR adds a temporary compatibility patch for the API Keys component to work with the upcoming pagination changes.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

A fixed query parameter, limit: '100', has been added to the search parameters of the GET request within the getAll method of the APIKeys class. This change ensures that the request now always includes a limit of 100 results, in addition to any existing subject parameter. Additionally, a new changeset file .changeset/tired-lines-rhyme.md was added documenting a patch update for the @clerk/clerk-js package addressing compatibility issues related to API keys pagination. No other logic, error handling, or public API signatures have been modified.

37-53: Add proper pagination support and error handling for the getAll method.

The current implementation with a hard-coded limit creates several issues:

  1. Incomplete results: Users may not receive all their API keys if they have more than 100
  2. No pagination interface: The method signature doesn't support pagination parameters like offset or cursor
  3. Silent truncation: Users won't know if results are incomplete

Consider implementing proper pagination support:

- async getAll(params?: GetAPIKeysParams): Promise<APIKeyResource[]> {
+ async getAll(params?: GetAPIKeysParams & { limit?: number; offset?: number }): Promise<{
+   data: APIKeyResource[];
+   hasMore: boolean;
+   totalCount?: number;
+ }> {
    return BaseResource.clerk
      .getFapiClient()
      .request<{ api_keys: ApiKeyJSON[] }>({
        ...(await this.getBaseFapiProxyOptions()),
        method: 'GET',
        path: '/api_keys',
        search: {
          subject: params?.subject ?? BaseResource.clerk.organization?.id ?? BaseResource.clerk.user?.id ?? '',
-         limit: '100',
+         limit: (params?.limit ?? 100).toString(),
+         ...(params?.offset && { offset: params.offset.toString() }),
        },
      })
      .then(res => {
        const apiKeysJSON = res.payload as unknown as { api_keys: ApiKeyJSON[] };
-       return apiKeysJSON.api_keys.map(json => new APIKey(json));
+       return {
+         data: apiKeysJSON.api_keys.map(json => new APIKey(json)),
+         hasMore: apiKeysJSON.api_keys.length === (params?.limit ?? 100),
+ // Include totalCount if provided by the API
+       };
      });
  }

However, if this must remain a temporary patch, at minimum add:

  • JSDoc warning about the 100-item limit
  • Console warning when exactly 100 items are returned (suggesting truncation)
  • Clear TODO comments with timeline for proper pagination implementation

Whenever reviewing a pull request, if there are any changes that could impact security, always tag @clerk/security in the PR.

Security-impacting changes include, but are not limited to:

  • Changes to authentication logic or mechanisms (e.g. login, session handling, token issuance)
  • Any modification to access control, authorization checks, or role-based permissions
  • Introduction or modification of hashing algorithms, signature verification, or cryptographic primitives
  • Handling of sensitive data (e.g. passwords, tokens, secrets, PII)
  • Integration with external identity providers (e.g. SSO, OAuth, OpenID Connect)
  • Modifications to security headers, cookie flags, CORS policies, or CSRF protections
  • Bypass mechanisms (e.g. feature flags, testing overrides) that could weaken protections
  • Changes to rate limiting, abuse prevention, or input validation

If you're unsure whether a change is security-relevant, err on the side of caution and tag @clerk/security.

Any time that you tag @clerk/security, please do so explicitly in a code comment, rather than within a collapsed section in a coderabbit comment, such as the "recent review details" section. If you do use the team name in any thinking or non-direct-code-comment content, it can be referred to as "clerk security team" to avoid accidentally printing the tag which sends a notification to the team.

Shouldn't the endpoint have a default low limit ? Like 10, 20, 100 ?

Yes, default of 10 but some early access users might already have more than that, and the component pagination is currently client-side. Need to do another PR to make sure we do pagination server-side.
