Summary

Manage sing-box/Xray proxy cores through explicit Save/install/configuration/activation and existing service supervision. Preserve credential redaction, registry ownership, deletion/rollback, and management authorization. Typing a tunnel source does not install or activate a core.

Reconcile the new managed-core controls with the active release's UI kit: retain Tabs/TabsContent and use shared Field, Input, Select, SegmentedControl, Button and Icon components in the extracted custom fields.

Target and reconciliation

  • Target: release/v3.8.53; integrated freshly fetched official release da1e6c79fb51bf4615e4f1db03a49cc8a09196fb without rewriting history, including the landed mutation-test registration repair.
  • Current head: 51c3c6de9f9dd83b2d7cedd53a2aea732263dde2 (local/push/live PR equality verified; full new-head acceptance pending).
  • Resolved the health-check conflict by retaining the managed native probe and stopped-state guard, while using upstream's original-fetch path for HTTP health checks and clearing the timeout in finally. The existing internal-health fixture now also asserts native-probe precedence, signal forwarding and no HTTP URL evaluation. That earlier reconciliation retained authorization/removal contracts; the later centrally guarded deletion dispatch preserves the original public API.
  • Inherited base-red tracking: 🔴 Release branch not green: release/v3.8.53 #17219. Not every failure below is inherited.

Validation

The focused managed-core GitHub Actions run completed successfully on prior head 9e28891498d8cc571b9291b520bedb3c4bd7216b; it is not final-SHA acceptance for the latest release merge:

  • Native configuration on Windows and Linux: 8 sing-box + 5 Xray fixtures accepted per OS.
  • Isolated runtime on Windows and Linux: 12 Node tests + 10 Vitest tests passed per OS, zero failures.
  • These hosted results supersede the earlier pending Windows/native status. They cover the configured synthetic lifecycle/auth/removal/UI fixtures and official binary configuration validation, not real external tunnel connectivity or a browser session.
  • Earlier cloud-checkout validation additionally reported the existing ProxyConfigModal regression 5/5 passed; that is separate evidence, not an extra GitHub Actions result.
  • Latest native pre-commit scoped ESLint/Prettier, identity/docs-sync/manifest/explicit-any/artifact/attribution checks passed. The private UI-kit snapshot check skipped because its reference clone is absent. Source parsing reported no diagnostics in the resolved health module and expanded fixture. The new runtime case has not been executed locally; earlier guarded execution refusals were not bypassed. Prior-head API Route Typecheck and semgrep succeeded, but fresh full typecheck/runtime and final-head repository CI/Quality acceptance are not complete.

Current integration evidence and remaining acceptance

The current normal release merge resolves the provider-stats fixture to the incoming stable translator implementation, preserving dismissal, rerender and explicit-refresh assertions. Native commit gates passed. Optional UI-kit reference checking skipped because its reference clone is absent.

Current repairs address the observed failures without changing managed production behavior:

  • Earlier hosted HTTP jobs failed at bundle construction because the Entra evaluator reached real database modules through incomplete fixture adapters. Synthetic, throwing SSO database adapters now isolate those boundaries; a metafile assertion rejects any real database module before HTTP startup. On current source 51c3c6de9f, the dedicated workflow completed successfully: each OS passed12Node tests,27Vitest tests and2actual Next HTTP deletion cases (root and /omniroute basePath). Linux HTTP total15852.712055ms; Windows17507.9584ms. This verifies the fixture repair and original-request deletion contracts, not external tunnel connectivity.
  • Current Unit8 passed7867tests with0failures and2skips, then uploaded6.5GB raw coverage (1449795975compressed bytes). Storage preparation reported85GB free before removing the unused12GB Android SDK and96GB afterward;85GB remained at completion. This runner had145GB total disk, unlike the earlier exhausted environment: SDK reclamation executed successfully, but this is not proof it alone prevents ENOSPC on smaller runners. Coverage inputs, thresholds and exit propagation remain intact.
  • The queue-bound fixture replaces scheduling-dependent elapsed-time inference with explicit slot-occupancy synchronization, retaining trusted timeout/status, no-dispatch and no-orphan checks. The prior local4/4 result is not accepted as isolated evidence because inherited data configuration reached installed data; no further local application-import run is used as proof. Hosted current-head evidence is required.

Independent #18526 owns separate queue-production changes and was not copied or merged while open. Shared mutation coverage repair #18771 is now landed and included through the fresh canonical release merge; its active work was not copied while open.

Current-source dedicated native/runtime workflow is successful on both Windows and Linux. General Vitest on the current source also passed588core tests and4132UI tests with1UI skip; the provider-stats dismissal/refresh regression passed. All eight unit shards and Build in run41524677364 completed successfully. That overall run was subsequently cancelled during coverage-artifact download; its Gate / CI correctly failed because Coverage and Quality Ratchet were cancelled, not because a new test assertion failed. Existing same-head replacement CI run41535358477 is in progress and replacement Quality run41535358433 completed successfully; no new run was dispatched for this update.

Earlier process-route and fixture-bundling failures are not current evidence. Whole repository acceptance remains incomplete until the replacement coverage/ratchet/admission results are verified. Real listener/tunnel, browser/RTL, package and signing limitations remain explicitly unverified.

Tests

managedProxyConfig, managedProxyArchive, managedProxyManager, managedProxyLifecycle, managedProxyAuth, managedProxyRemoval, managedProxyUi and shared/components/ProxyConfigModal.

Reviewer notes

Feature changelog fragment and focused managed-core workflow are included. Full-suite/coverage/build, real listener/tunnel connectivity and real browser acceptance remain unverified. No installation, application activation, real proxy/provider request or upstream PR merge was performed. The earlier local test data-isolation incident is explicitly excluded from accepted isolated verification.

Re-homed to release/v3.8.53: v3.8.52 entered its release freeze, so the branch now belongs to the release captain and development continues on the next cycle. Nothing is wrong with this PR — it just needed a live base. No action needed from you; CI will re-run against the new base.

The vendored CI UI Kit 0.0.84 builds the StackedBarChart keyboard tooltip payload for recharts 2. Under our recharts 3, DefaultTooltipContent's Payload requires graphicalItemId, so the entries fail TS2322. The production type ratchet added in cheaper-inference#18603 was baselined before the 0.0.84 sync (cheaper-inference#18812), so check:build-typecheck is red on the release tip and every PR's Lint and Fast Quality Gates fail with it.

The synthetic entries now carry the series key as graphicalItemId. The local patch is recorded in packages/ui-kit/PATCHES.md for the 0.0.84 snapshot.
…er case

cheaper-inference#18706 keeps default Antigravity generation on the daily endpoint only, so the executor has a single base URL. The cheaper-inference#13125 silent-body failover test still relied on the old two-URL default: with one URL the pre-response timeout has nowhere to fail over to and the test fails on the release tip (Unit Tests 8/8 on every PR). It now configures both runtime base URLs explicitly, the same way the cheaper-inference#18706 tests exercise the multi-URL path, and keeps every assertion.

Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review 7805a

Contributors running the standard local test commands will see the managed-proxy tests fail at import, so the test layout should be fixed before merge. Several smaller issues remain in managed save and deletion edge cases, Windows test cleanup, option filtering and UI localization. None of them is a critical production risk.

Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to 7805a

Local-access and management-authentication requirements substantially constrain exposure. However, imported native configurations retain security-sensitive local options, and interruption during a save can leave the recovered proxy configuration inconsistent with its recorded source. These boundaries warrant attention before relying on the new lifecycle for shared proxy routing.

Retained concerns

  • Low · security · inferred: The new native-JSON admission boundary accepts sing-box tor outbounds and preserves options such as data_directory, extra_args and torrc. Its generic denylist therefore does not restrict imported configuration to upstream-routing behavior. Such configuration can influence local native-core behavior under the application account. This requires an authenticated local save; unrestricted remote execution is not established.
  • Medium · security · inferred: Updating an already-enabled entry replaces config.json and starts the new configuration before persisting its encrypted source manifest. If the process is interrupted in that interval, startup reads the old manifest but validates and executes the new config.json. Because an existing entry retains its port and readiness checks only the SOCKS listener, recovery can activate an outbound different from the recorded source. The new lifecycle lacks reconciliation for this split state, weakening egress-configuration ownership and rollback guarantees.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The evidenced configuration attack requires local management authority or an operator saving an attacker-influenced source. Its maximum OS impact is bounded by the application account and deployment isolation, not merely by the managed configuration directory. Lifecycle recovery drift can affect traffic assigned to an existing managed endpoint; host-wide compromise, tenant escape and remote unauthenticated reachability were not established.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — The retained finding follows native JSON through authenticated POST, nativeOutbound validation and configuration rendering into the verified core. Protocol admission and generic option filtering preserve tor-specific local options. Native validation, binary integrity checks and environment filtering constrain execution but do not themselves enforce a per-protocol local-authority policy.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The normal Next request path covers API routes, strips client-supplied trusted headers and derives locality from token-validated socket-peer stamps. Marked reverse-proxy hops are downgraded to remote. Managed handlers additionally require management authentication even when authentication is otherwise optional.
  • observed — Managed deletion is dispatched through a local authenticated lifecycle adapter. Generic deletion rejects managed identities, and generic editing cannot change their endpoint or ownership metadata. These checks prevent ordinary registry operations from silently bypassing managed cleanup.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Root-scoped locking and per-file atomic replacement protect normal concurrent operations and individual file integrity, but do not make configuration, encrypted ownership records and registry changes one recoverable transition. Startup validates native syntax and listener readiness without proving that the executable configuration corresponds to the recorded encrypted sources.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Use protocol-specific option schemas for imported native outbounds, excluding local file and subprocess controls unless explicitly supported. Define a durable configuration generation or recovery protocol that reconciles the executable configuration, encrypted manifest and registry before restoring listeners.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

PowerShell reads environment variables with $env:NAME, not $env.NAME.

$env.FIXTURE_PID reads a property of an undefined $env variable, so the value is $null. The filter becomes 'ProcessId=', which is invalid WQL. Get-CimInstance then fails and inspected.status is non-zero. On Windows, the survivor branch always throws "Cannot verify owned child survivor" before process.kill(record.pid, "SIGKILL") runs. A surviving fixture child therefore leaks on the runner.

Review comment at @scripts/test/run-managed-proxy-runtime.mjs at line 72:
Correct the PowerShell environment-variable reference in the survivor inspection
command from `$env.FIXTURE_PID` to PowerShell’s `$env:FIXTURE_PID` syntax. Keep
the existing `Get-CimInstance` lookup and verification flow unchanged.

Translate the new managed-proxy strings.

The repository design guide requires every dashboard string to come from useTranslations. This includes labels passed to kit components. The new strings in these files are English literals:

  • src/app/(dashboard)/dashboard/settings/components/proxy/ManagedProxyTab.tsx, lines 66-69, 80-82 and 96: the heading, help text, and "Save and activate" button.
  • ManagedProxyTab.tsx, lines 163, 168, 173 and 181: the "Core", "Select a core", "Name" and source-link labels.
  • src/shared/components/ProxyCustomFields.tsx, lines 82-94: the "Proxy core", "Select a core" and help text.
  • src/shared/components/ProxyConfigModal.tsx, line 317: the "Select sing-box or Xray before saving this tunnel" error.

Users in other locales see English text in these flows, while the rest of the dashboard is translated. Add the keys to src/i18n/messages/en.json, pt-BR.json and vi.json. Read them with t(...). The settings namespace fits ManagedProxyTab.tsx. The proxyConfigModal namespace fits the two shared components. FreePoolTab.tsx in the same directory already uses translateOrFallback, so that pattern is also accepted.

Add the corresponding keys to the English, Brazilian Portuguese, and Vietnamese

Reject local-resource and process options from native JSON. nativeOutbound forwards the selected protocol object after only generic key filtering, and NATIVE_PROTOCOLS.singbox includes tor. Sing-box accepts extra_args, data_directory, and torrc for that outbound, so an authenticated management request can control the Tor process and its local data. This violates the documented rejection of local file-path options. The endpoint is loopback-only and management-authenticated, so this is not an unauthenticated remote exploit.

Update the option filtering used by nativeOutbound so native JSON cannot set
local-resource or process-control options, including path, file, directory,
extra_args, and torrc fields. Verify whether NATIVE_PROTOCOLS.singbox should
exclude tor to prevent managed outbounds from starting or controlling a local
process; preserve supported non-local options.

ensureDirectory rejects saves when DATA_DIR or a directory above the managed root is a symbolic link.

The loop walks from the managed root to the filesystem root and throws on any symbolic link. A symlinked DATA_DIR, such as ~/.omniroute pointing to another disk, makes the managed root setup throw "Managed directory ancestors must not be links". Links above DATA_DIR, such as /tmp or /var on macOS when DATA_DIR is placed under them, cause the same error. The check does not stop at the directories OmniRoute owns.

Resolve the trusted base once and check links only below it. This also keeps the check bounded to DATA_DIR, so a symlinked DATA_DIR no longer fails. The new containment check rejects a root outside DATA_DIR.

Allow deletion of a managed registry row that has no manifest entry.

removeManagedProxy throws before any lifecycle step in two cases:

  • sources.json is missing. readPrivateConfigFile throws ENOENT at remove.ts:37.
  • The row id is not in the manifest. remove.ts:41 throws Managed proxy source not found.

No supported path removes such a row:

  • deleteProxyWithManagedCleanup rejects every row with managed notes.
  • rejectManagedEndpointEdit blocks notes edits, so the row cannot become an ordinary proxy.
  • A save with id fails with Managed proxy not found for selected core. A save without id creates a new row and leaves the orphan in place.

The row and the manifest can diverge when DATA_DIR/services/managed-proxy is deleted, or when a database backup is restored into a fresh data directory.

When the manifest is absent, or the id is not in it, no managed listener is recorded for the row. Skip the lifecycle work and call only commit():

     const executable =

This change has two limits:

  • The early return skips stopManaged. If the core still runs, its listener for the row can stay active until the core restarts.
  • A row whose id is in the manifest still fails when config.json is missing. The read at remove.ts:38 throws, and fs.rmSync(configPath) at remove.ts:59 throws ENOENT for the last entry. This case needs a separate change.

Update removeManagedProxy so a missing manifest or an id absent from its entries
commits the row deletion without running lifecycle work. Treat only ENOENT as an

Move the hosted-only managed proxy unit tests out of the general test globs.

Local runs fail for these files. Outside GitHub Actions, assertManagedFixture() throws at module top level during import. The general runners collect the files: tests/unit/*.test.ts for npm test, npm run test:unit, and the shard scripts, and tests/unit/**/*.test.tsx through vitest.config.ts for npm run test:vitest:ui. The runner already invokes these files explicitly, so the fix is to move them and update the references that name their paths. Keep the assertion. Do not convert it to a skip.

Move the files to tests/integration/managed-proxy/. That directory already holds deletion-dispatch.test.ts, and the general integration glob does not match it. Then update:

  • scripts/test/run-managed-proxy-runtime.mjs: the readdirSync("tests/unit") reads and filters at lines 176-177 and 193-194, the deepEqual lists at lines 180-182 and 197-202, and the tests/unit/${name} paths at lines 190 and 209. The runner asserts these exact lists, so it fails if they are not updated.
  • .github/workflows/managed-proxy-cores.yml: remove the tests/unit/managedProxy* path filters at lines 17-18. Line 15 already covers the new directory.
  • scripts/check/check-test-discovery.mjs: add the moved files to a COLLECTORS entry anchored to the runner. Otherwise they are reported as orphans.
  • The relative imports in each moved file. ../_setup/managedProxyFixture.mjs becomes ../../_setup/managedProxyFixture.mjs.
