Ok cool this pr fixes the merge conflicts that we will encounter when we merge to main. NOTE: I did not rebase because of the number of commits that we'd have to work through. Instead, I just added a clean merge commit to fix all of the conflicts one by one.

NOTE: because this branch is rebased against main, it is possible that it may just merge into main when we merge it to docs-upgrade. i'm not sure how that works but it's ok if it gets merged to main. we are ready.

ugh @JimMadge so sorry this PR has gotten bloated. When i went to fix the merge issues, I discovered a few bugs in our lint steps that were missing issues across mdx files. So i fixed that and then i discovered more linting issues to fix throughout. Also a broken link (yay for the link checker!!). So this is now a larger PR but the CI runs and there shouldn't be any remnant docusaurus files. I also opened #935 to ensure we add instructions for installing lychee for anyone who wants to link check locally.

Great, I'll take another look. I got worried that something had gone wrong merging main into docs-upgrade and introduced files we don't want.

This is the most difficult type of merge though, when we want to bring changes from main into docs-upgrade where the files have all moved 😱.
