perf(kv-router): scale the CRTC stale-leaf sweep trigger with tree size - #18084
The CRTC's kv-maint thread sweeps stale leaves once 1,024 nodes have died. The sweep walks the whole tree, but the threshold ignores the tree's size. In a 2,048-worker index the threshold is met on every 50 ms tick, so the thread walks the tree back to back and finds almost nothing the event lanes haven't already unlinked. A sweep is now also due only once deaths reach an eighth of the nodes the last sweep visited. That keeps the walk near eight node visits per death; small, high-churn trees still sweep every tick.

The saturated row is the one cost: when the index is already millions of events behind, dead leaves stay attached a little longer between sweeps, and the lanes spend about 2% more cycles per event. Booked req/s at saturation is unchanged.
Key Changes
sweep_if_due waits for the larger of 1,024 and (nodes visited by the last sweep / 8) deaths. The 30 s backstop is unchanged.
sweep_stale_children also returns how many nodes it visited, including the root and anchors. Each sweep logs that and how many leaves it unlinked, at debug level.
README and one test. No change to locking, shape gates, versioning, split or remove.
Validation
cargo test -p dynamo-kv-router --lib concurrent_radix_tree_compressed
Background cleanup now scales its trigger threshold to the size of the previous sweep, while retaining the 30-second maximum interval and 50 ms checks.
The cleanup walk is bounded to at most eight node visits per death.
Tests
Added coverage verifying cleanup waits for a number of removals proportional to the tree it last walked.
The kv-maint sweep walks the whole tree, but it was due after a fixed
1,024 deaths. In a large index that threshold is met on every 50 ms
tick, so the thread walked millions of nodes back to back and found
almost nothing the lanes had not already unlinked.
A sweep now also waits until the deaths since the last sweep reach an
eighth of the nodes that sweep visited. That keeps the walk to at most
eight node visits per death. A small, high-churn tree still sweeps
every tick, as before. The 30 s backstop is unchanged.

The stale-leaf sweep now counts examined child nodes and returns that count with the unlink count. Scheduling uses the previous sweep’s visit count to scale the death threshold. The maximum-interval trigger remains, and a test covers the scaled threshold.

Summary
Sweep result counts lib/kv-router/src/indexer/concurrent_radix_tree_compressed/remove.rs
The sweep returns the number of unlinked nodes and the number of child nodes examined. The test-only wrapper continues to return only the unlink count.
Adaptive scheduling and validation lib/kv-router/src/indexer/concurrent_radix_tree_compressed/mod.rs, lib/kv-router/src/indexer/concurrent_radix_tree_compressed/README.md, lib/kv-router/src/indexer/concurrent_radix_tree_compressed/tests.rs
The scheduler triggers when deaths reach the larger of the configured threshold and one-eighth of the previous sweep’s visited nodes, or when the maximum interval elapses. The documentation describes this rule, and a test checks the death threshold after a sweep.
Anchor-heavy trees may sweep more often than intended, and the documented performance bound is inaccurate. Both corrections are bounded and should be made before or shortly after merge.

Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description gives a clear overview of the change: the sweep trigger now scales with tree size, and the threshold is the larger of 1,024 or one-eighth of the nodes the last sweep visited. It includes a benchmark table, a Key Changes list, and the validation commands. It follows the template headings (Overview, Key Changes, Validation, Issues and Ongoing Work) and includes the checklist. The Issues section says 'Follows #16313' but does not use the 'Closes #XXXX' form. The template marks that link as advisory, so this does not block the check. Two details are missing or unclear: the benchmark references (#17959) are cited without context, and the Validation section lists commands but no results. These gaps are minor, so the description is mostly complete.
Full details: Docstring Coverage
Explanation
Docstring coverage is 66.67% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 3 functions across 3 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)
Resolution
Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

threshold documentation to describe the visit ratio as a target based on the
previous sweep, not a guarantee. Note that tree growth and the 30-second

…tio as a target
The sweep walks the root and every anchor as well as their children, so the
visit count now starts at the seeded queue length. The threshold comes from
the last walk, so the docs describe eight visits per death as a target, not
a bound.
