feat(kvcr): supervise startup and configure memory-service resources - #17290
Update the same-Pod KVCR memory-service example for KVCR 0.2.0, with supervised startup and HTTP readiness.
Launch kvcr.service.server. Only Guard mounts the pool directory; vLLM receives pool FDs over the shared Unix socket.
Package the startup scripts in immutable ConfigMaps and expose pool sizing plus independent HTTP, Guard, and engine startup budgets.
Keep readiness read-only. Guard/state-agent failure requires coordinated Pod or worker-group replacement; this PR does not add that controller.
Document FD-based attachment and compatible source requirements. The vLLM adapter needs startup_timeout_seconds forwarding in addition to its KVCR 0.2.0 integration. A KVCR wheel overlay does not update vLLM or native dependencies.
Document Guard-only native HugeTLB mounts and resource reservations, plus THP prerequisites and fallback behavior.
Validation
Focused Dynamo tests: 29 passed; GPU/cluster case deselected. Separate vLLM adapter tests: 38 passed, including a red/green timeout regression.
Shell syntax, Python lint/formatting, and README lint passed. In the built image: 38 adapter tests and 76 KVCR memory/protocol/health tests passed; one real-hugetlbfs test skipped.
Two-node B200 recovery passed: Guard served 451 blocks (827.6 MB / 7,216 tokens) over RDMA while its engine was down, then handed the preserved cache back after engine restart. The sidecar did not restart. vLLM had no pool-directory mount. This was the default memory-backed deployment, not a HugeTLB/THP qualification run.

The memory-service deployment now renders and applies an immutable startup ConfigMap, validates pool and timeout settings, and configures service supervision, readiness, and memory sizing. Tests cover bundle generation, wrapper lifecycle, RDMA allocation, and Guard recovery.

Summary
Configure and render the startup bundle examples/backends/vllm/deploy/kvcr/deploy.sh, examples/backends/vllm/deploy/kvcr/README.md, tests/deploy/test_kvcr_manifests.py, tests/deploy/test_kvcr_guard.py
The deployment script validates pool and timeout options, generates a content-addressed ConfigMap, and applies it before the manifest. An optional wheel is included as base64 data. Documentation and tests cover bundle contents, rendering, size limits, and invalid values.
Configure service startup and readiness examples/backends/vllm/deploy/kvcr/services.sh, examples/backends/vllm/deploy/kvcr/agg-memory-service.yaml, examples/backends/vllm/deploy/kvcr/README.md, tests/deploy/test_kvcr_manifests.py
The wrapper starts KVCR and, on worker zero, the state agent, and waits for a child process to exit. The manifest configures startup timeouts and memory sizing, mounts the startup bundle, and uses HTTP readiness without sidecar liveness or startup probes. Tests cover wrapper behavior and rendered settings.
Check RDMA allocation and Guard recovery tests/deploy/test_kvcr_guard.py, examples/backends/vllm/deploy/kvcr/README.md
The Guard test resolves RDMA ports for the source and target containers independently. It checks Guard promotion, transferred block records, and sidecar restart counts. Documentation describes RDMA port measurement for all.
Deployments using some otherwise valid wheel overlays will fail when applying the startup ConfigMap. This is a bounded deployment risk, but the apply path should be corrected before relying on the documented size limit.

Explanation
The title "feat(kvcr): supervise startup and configure memory-service resources" matches the main changes: the deployment now supervises KVCR and its state-agent companion through services.sh and launch helpers, and it adds configurable memory-service resources (pool size, timeouts, shared memory, memory request/limit). The title is specific and follows a conventional-commit style. It does not mention the HTTP readiness change, the immutable ConfigMap bundle, or the tests, but those are secondary aspects and the title does not need to cover every detail.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Direct issue [#17289] has coding requirements, and the reviewed changes address them. agg-memory-service.yaml replaces Unix-socket startup checks with read-only HTTP /ready, removes liveness and startup probes, mounts the immutable startup bundle, forwards engine and Guard startup settings, and sizes memory from the pool. services.sh supervises KVCR and the optional state agent with shared launch helpers and coordinated child cleanup. deploy.sh validates positive decimal pool and timeout settings, generates a content-addressed immutable ConfigMap, supports an optional wheel, and applies the bundle before the manifest. The manifest and Guard tests cover rendering, supervision, recovery behavior, per-container RDMA allocation, promotion, and retained records. README changes document the required image capabilities and deployment limits.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changed files remain within the scope of [#17289]. They modify the vLLM KVCR deployment example, its startup supervision scripts, README guidance, and deployment and Guard tests. The changes support the requested deployment integration. No Dynamo core behavior, KVCR runtime implementation, or automatic coordinated recovery is added. Copyright updates and test helpers are supporting changes.

Explanation
The description is mostly complete. It provides an overview, detailed key changes, validation results, limitations, and the linked issue. It does not use the template headings exactly and omits the Issues and Ongoing Work section and checklist, but these omissions are non-critical.

Previously reported defects still present:
Original discussion: The startup bundle is still applied with client-side kubectl apply, which stores the object in the last-applied annotation and can reject wheel-bearing ConfigMaps well below the documented 1 MiB limit; the matching Guard test also uses client-side apply.
Original discussion: Verified still present: the startup bundle permits payloads up to 1 MiB, but line 129 applies the ConfigMap with client-side kubectl apply, which duplicates the object in the 256 KiB last-applied annotation. Wheel bundles well below the documented limit can therefore pass validation but fail deployment. Use server-side apply in the deployment and matching guard-test path, or enforce and document the lower client-side limit.
Add optional, read-only HTTP health probes to the KVCR service so
deployments can gate startup and detect failures without claiming pools
or changing leases.

Requesting changes for the vLLM adapter compatibility issue on startup_timeout_seconds; the rest are small. Moving the sidecar onto wait_any_exit and process-group cleanup is a nice simplification.

Thanks, all addressed. With startup_timeout_seconds removed, the tier config only uses keys KVCRSecondaryTierManager.__init__ accepts at fed7de909f, and the 60 s engine-default note matches KVCR. One leftover from the H1/SPDX comment: agg-memory-service.yaml and deploy.sh still change 2026 to 2025-2026, and the new services.sh uses 2025-2026. These files are from 2026, so 2026 is correct. Non-blocking.
