feat(triton): Deliver dynamo.triton Functionality - #13774
Conversation
This change delivers dynamo.triton functionality required to support Dynamo Triton Runtime deployment as part of a Dynamo pipeline/workflow. Specifically designed to follow the preexisting format of "python -m dynamo.<runtime> ...". Includes unit tests and documentation. Support for building a Dynamo Triton Runtime container will be provided as part of a follow up PR. Integration with existing Dynamo CI will be provided as part of a follow up PR (as requested). WalkthroughAdds a Triton backend for Dynamo. The change includes configuration parsing, tensor conversion, request handling, readiness checks, worker lifecycle management, metrics bridging, an identity model, a test client, tests, and documentation. ChangesTriton backend

Review of head 76da164: 5 must-fix, 7 consider. The component code itself is solid - every runtime API it calls was verified against the bindings, and the tensor metadata path is correct end to end - but the ownership gate is already red in this PR's live CI, the new docs page cannot render where it sits, and the Quick Start invokes tooling that does not exist at this head.
Must-fix
.github/codeowners/areas.yaml- all 22 newcomponents/src/dynamo/triton/**paths fall to the catch-all, so the strict coverage gate fails and thecodeownersCI job is red on this PR. Add explicitpath_globsfor the new directories to the owning area (per-directory globs are the file's convention), rerun the emitter, and commit the regenerated CODEOWNERS and CONTRIBUTORS.md.docs/backends/triton/README.md- placed underdocs/but outsidedocs/fern/, so it never renders on the site (on main,docs/contains exactly one entry,docs/fern). The file even carries Fern frontmatter, so publication is clearly the intent. Move it todocs/fern/pages/developer-guide/knowledge-base/modular-components/backends/triton/overview.md(matching the sglang/vllm layout), register it indocs/fern/index.yml, and update the pointer incomponents/src/dynamo/triton/README.md:6.pyproject.tomlmarkers list - every new test file appliespytest.mark.triton, buttritonis not a registered marker and addopts sets--strict-markers, so all 8 files error at collection the momenttritonserveris installed in the test env (exactly what the follow-up CI PR adds). Register the marker besidevllm/trtllm/sglangin this PR.docs/backends/triton/README.md:63,174- the Quick Start and version sections document tooling that does not exist at this head:container/render.pyhas notritonframework,container/run.shhas no triton handling, andcontainer/context.yamlhas notriton.cuda13.2key (all grep-refuted; the PR body defers container support to a follow-up). Land after or with the container PR, or explicitly mark those sections pending and keep only the steps that work in a hand-built environment.docs/backends/triton/README.md:51,174- relative links../../../container/context.yamlescapedocs/; use absolute GitHub URLs (required anyway once the page moves).
Consider
- The endpoint shape is stated three different ways (README lines 36 and 232) while the code builds
<namespace>.<server_id>.<slug>_<hash8>; state the real shape once. main.py:35- the comment cites a workflow that exists nowhere and describes the 26.08 log-callback gate backwards relative to_LOG_CALLBACK_MIN_VERSION; fix the comment and drop the workflow reference until it exists.- README line 30 promises per-row tracking-issue links but none exist, and the one link given is a Linear URL unreachable for public readers.
handlers.py:22- FP16/BF16 are guarded on inputs only; a model with FP16 outputs registers, then every request dies at response serde with an opaque frontend error. The output schema is already cached at init - fail fast there.main.py:81- the worker re-parsesconfig.pbtxtfrom disk and crashes without it, but Triton itself serves config-less models via auto-complete; read the effective config from the loaded model or document the file as required.triton_runtime.Optionsnaming appears throughout the README and arg help while the code importstritonserver; rename.- The pre-existing
examples/backends/tritonserver/PoC tells the same story with different instructions; add one line positioning this component as the supported path.
Verified sound
Every runtime API call exists with a matching signature (create_runtime, serve_endpoint with health payload, register_model with tensor_model_config); the serialized model config lands in TensorModelConfig.triton_model_config and is decoded by the KServe service; frontend flags and port defaults check out; the flag surface matches the README tables; tests exercise real call patterns. CODEOWNERS regeneration, matcher tests, skills validation, copyright, and pre-commit all green locally.
Comment-only review; severity calls stay with the human reviewers.
