…ction A fully selected multi-selection has its native selection cleared by use-multi-selection, and a block selected without a text selection never had one, so shift+arrow had nothing to extend and went dead. A selection can be fully selected because it resolves to a nesting ancestor, with its native selection still in place. Extending it block by block store-side replaced the native extension and the promotion of the endpoints to the common level. Only grow or shrink the selection store-side when there is no native selection to extend. What?
Fixes #63259. Shift+arrow extends the selection again when there is no native selection to extend: after a multi-selection becomes a full block selection, and from a block selected without a text selection within it (an image, a spacer).
Why?
A fully selected multi-selection has its native selection cleared by
use-multi-selection, and a shell-selected block never had one, so shift+arrow had nothing to extend and did nothing.How?
In
use-arrow-nav: with a fully selected multi-selection, shift+arrow grows or shrinks the selection by one block at the focus end, store-side. From a block selected without a text selection, it starts a block multi-selection with the adjacent block.Out of scope: shift+arrow selecting one block too many when the extension crosses a spacer (#53674) is a separate problem in how the browser's native extension is recorded, and will be addressed in a follow-up.
Testing Instructions
Covered by two e2e tests asserting the selected blocks; both fail on trunk.
