There was a problem hiding this comment.
This is the only difference that I made (the "post meta") indicator is removed. For me, this was way too ad-hoc and doesn't really solve any particular issue to be worth keeping.

Interesting proposal. I have always looked at Adding the Not trying to block anything here, just sharing some thoughts. |

I don't feel strongly. I do think we need a centralized place for core-data components, I don't mind if it's in "core-data" but could also see it in a separate package. |

To clarify my reasoning here, if you're building a WP-Admin page that modifies settings or entities and you want to save changes, you shouldn't have to load the "editor" package which is more about the post editor. |

I'm reading that the specific issue is bundle bloat for non-editor use cases, so pages that just need to save entities. I'm imagining a further example where folks just need a data access layer package, and they implement their own UI around it. Is that a legitimate use case? I only ask because, if this makes the work to remove the block-editor dependency (#67334 and #64604) redundant, then moving the presentation layer for saving entities to core-data could just relocate the problem. If we don't want to conflict with dependency reduction goals and separate concerns, then could something like I might be misunderstanding things, so feel free to ignore if I've missed the point! |

I think all saving use-cases in WP-Admin should ideally use the same components: unified saved state and potentially an additional save button component. My opinion is that we need a centralized package for save components and hooks. I feel the block-editor is a separate discussion and not something related to save state.
This is definitely an option, but do we have a use-case for Core Data without its UI already? |

Maybe not in Gutenberg, but WP can be extended in many different ways. I can imagine wanting to build your own UI if you're using it as some highly specialised data management system. Or even just in a headless WP instance. Also, aren't we paining ourselves into a corner by adding more dependencies to the package, making it less flexible for other types of use in the future? I think it's reasonable to leave our options open when the cost of creating a dedicated UI package is pretty low? |

…admin-ui Boot's always-mounted save UI statically imported `EntitiesSavedStates` from `@wordpress/editor`. Because a classic-script import lands in a script module's eager dependencies, this forced `@wordpress/editor` — and its heavy `block-library` / `media-utils` dependencies — to load on every boot-powered view, including dashboard/list views that never edit. Move the entity-save "review changes" UI to `@wordpress/admin-ui` so boot can render it without pulling in the editor: - Add `EntitiesSavedStates` (+ `EntitiesSavedStatesExtensible` and `useEntitiesSavedStatesIsDirty`) to `@wordpress/admin-ui` as regular exports (admin-ui is a bundled package, so it avoids private-API surface). Styles ship via admin-ui's `build-style`, which `editor` and `boot` `@use`. - Promote the entity-save orchestration to a public `saveDirtyEntities` `@wordpress/core-data` action (previously a private `@wordpress/editor` action) so a bundled UI package can trigger it without private APIs. The private `core/editor` `saveDirtyEntities` action is retained as a thin backwards-compatible wrapper. - `@wordpress/editor` re-exports the component/hook unchanged; boot imports from `@wordpress/admin-ui` and no longer depends on `@wordpress/editor`. Behavior is preserved (undo persistence marking and the per-record "Post Meta." indicator are retained). Alternative to WordPress#71948 and the `@wordpress/core-data-ui` approach. Saving changes is not something that is specific to the editor package, it's more of a generic WP concern. So the EntitiesSavedState is more suited in the core-data package rather than the editor package.
The current PR just moves this functionality to the core-data package.
Testing instructions
