Type of code change:
Enhancement

Description of changes:
Updates the bldscript and Users Guide (WRF-CMAQ Tutorial) for WRFv4.4.

Issue:
N/A

Summary of Impact:
Does not impact any core results. This is a script update to ensure streamlined building of the WRF-CMAQ model intended for users who would like to run CMAQv5.3.3+ with WRFv4.4+.

Tests conducted:

Test Domain Time Period Compiler Result
Compile WRFv4.4-CMAQv5.3.3+ N/A N/A INTEL Pass
Compile WRFv4.4-CMAQv5.3.3+ N/A N/A GNU Pass
Compile WRFv4.4-CMAQv5.3.3+ N/A N/A PGI Pass
Run WRFv4.4-CMAQv5.3.3+ SEBENCH 1 Day (07-01-2016) INTEL (intel18.0) Pass
Run WRFv4.4-CMAQv5.3.3+ SEBENCH 1 Day (07-01-2016) GNU (GNU 6.1.0) Pass
Run WRFv4.4-CMAQv5.3.3+ SEBENCH 1 Day (07-01-2016) PGI (PGI 17.4) Pass

Two things should be noted:

  1. WRFv4.4-CMAQv5.3.3+ was compiled with I/O APIv3.2 tagged 08-28-2020 and netCDF-C version 4.6.1/netCDF-Fortran version 4.4.4/hdf5-1.10.2. NetCDF was built with netcdf4 capabilities.
  2. Runs were completed using the sample runscript provided in the scripts directory (run_cctm_Bench_2016_12SE1.WRFCMAQ.csh). The benchmark case is setup to use PX LSM with NLCD40 data which uses data from the VEGPARM.TBL. However, this table contains several bugs, which were manually patched with edits from an open pull request on the WRF repository. Please see the WRF Github Repository for further details on the issue and associated bugfix.
