This PR is the first pass of an audit of every page on bubaly.com. It started as a one-line finalaudit.md release note for C1-K-56 and now carries the audit fixes and the shared ledger other bots use to split up the remaining pages. It is merged with main through #595.

How the pages were audited

  • Public pages (production): all 1,063 sitemap pages plus the 33 public routes the sitemap doesn't list, at 1280 px and 390 px. The 41 public pages were also crawled in each of the ten other locales.
  • Signed-in pages (local): all 398 app routes against a full local stack (Supabase with every migration, next build && next start on Node 24.21, the version package.json pins). Crawled as a Family+ parent, a trial parent, a teen, a child, and a super admin for /admin, with seeded data for the id-based routes.
  • Interaction pass (B6a, in progress): the new --interact mode opens every tab, dialog and button in each signed-in page's <main>. It skips form submits and any button labelled like a delete, payment or send, and it refuses to run against production.
  • Tool: scripts/page-audit.mjs (new, read-only unless --interact is used) loads each page in Chromium. It records status, uncaught errors, console errors (with the URL behind "Failed to load resource"), failing requests, <h1> count, horizontal overflow, and text that should never render. scripts/page-audit-report.mjs turns that into ledger rows.

Fixes

  • P-10 · High · No AI feature request was ever recorded, so the Free plan's AI allowance never counted the assistant. Migration 0255 lets a member insert only a concierge ai_requests row; other kinds "are filed by server code". But createRequest filed every kind on the member's own client. Every withAiRequest surface files kind: 'feature': the assistant, the brief, and the habit and relationship coaches. Those inserts were refused every time.
    • After the crawl, the local database held 13 concierge rows and no feature rows.
    • The Free plan's monthly allowance counts these rows, so no assistant turn was ever counted against it.
    • Fix: createRequest now files non-concierge requests on ledgerClient, with the family and requester still taken from the verified scope. Concierge requests stay on the member's client, where RLS checks them. No migration is needed.
  • P-08 · A first visit's second tracking event was answered 503. When one page sends two events at once, both tried to create the visitor and the loser hit the unique key. The loser now re-reads the winner's row and records against it.
  • P-09 · /favicon.ico answered 404 on production. public/favicon.ico now holds the existing brand icon at 16, 32 and 48 px.
  • P-01 · A wide table widened the whole page. The main-plus-sidebar grids now use minmax(0,1fr).
  • P-05 · A super admin's feature pages called endpoints that refused them. The endpoint gate now lets through whoever the page lets through. It checks only after the family itself is refused, and a failed lookup stays a refusal.
  • P-06 · 17 routes had no <h1> and 5 had two. Fixed on every affected page.
  • P-07 · A cancelled sidebar read was reported as an error. It is now retried.
  • Reconciled with Page audit: every page on www.bubaly.com, fixes as found #591.

Ledger

finalaudit.md has a new section, "Page audit — every page on bubaly.com". It contains:

  • a claim protocol so Claude and Codex bots can work in parallel;
  • batches B1–B10:
    • done: B1–B5, B7 and B10;
    • in progress here: B6a (the interaction pass);
    • open for claiming: B6b (submitting forms) and the signed-in half of B8 (other locales);
    • needs an operator: B9;
  • findings P-01 to P-10, plus the flags that turned out not to be defects, with evidence;
  • a re-crawl of the merged tree, and the teen and child role views;
  • a status row for all 398 routes.

It also fixes an earlier edit of mine that had overwritten two rows of the Critical Blockers table; they now match main.

Checks

  • tsc clean.
  • Full unit suite on Node 24.21 after merging main at e14b12e8: 20,714 of 20,714 pass.
  • Later runs failed only on timing-sensitive tests while the browser crawl loaded the machine.
    • Most of them pass when re-run on their own.
    • contact-center-urgent-durability-repro also fails with this branch's changes removed.
  • Each new test fails with its fix reverted.

The E2E check failed on 1 of 1,296 cases: tests/e2e/phone-auth-http.spec.ts:219, "held genuine SMS verification cannot replace logout". It timed out after 120 seconds waiting for the "Phone number" textbox. Its retry then failed to close the browser context.

I don't think this PR caused it. The PR changes only finalaudit.md, and the same application code (0306c985, #584) passed the full E2E matrix an hour earlier. The phone-auth group is also the one this audit has recorded as intermittently red on main. No fix exists yet. I'm re-running the failed job once; if it fails again, I'll treat it as real.

The re-run failed the same way, so I'm treating this as a real failure, not a flake.

What's failing: phone-auth-http.spec.ts:219, "held genuine SMS verification cannot replace logout". It failed on both attempts in both runs. Every other E2E case passed (1,295).

Why it isn't this PR's: the only difference between this head and main's 0306c985 is finalaudit.md. main passed this exact job at 02:36Z, and #584's head passed it at 02:17Z.

Root cause, from the uploaded error-context.md: at the timeout, the page snapshot is the signed-in app shell (/home, full sidebar), not the login form. The test signs in on a choosing page. It then opens a second page in the same browser context and goes to /login?redirect=/home. Because that context already holds a session, the login page can hand off to /home after Continue with phone has been clicked. When that happens, the Phone number textbox never appears. Whether the hand-off wins the race depends on timing, which is why the test passes on some runs and fails on others. This is the same phone-auth group the audit already lists as intermittent.

Proposed fix (test side, not widened into this PR): make requestCode wait for the login form to be settled before clicking:

await page.goto(`${origin}/login?redirect=/home`, { waitUntil: 'networkidle' });
await expect(page).toHaveURL(new RegExp('/login'));

If the product intends a signed-in visitor to be redirected off /login, the test instead needs to create the verifying page before signIn(choosing, …), or in a separate context that shares only the SMS probe. The owner of tests/e2e/phone-auth-http.spec.ts should choose.

This PR only adds a release line to finalaudit.md, so I'm leaving it open rather than merging it red.

…tos fall back to the drawn cover

The first pass of the every-page audit (scripts/page-audit.mjs, added here
with its report generator) found two defects:

- Five admin pages overflowed the viewport at 1280 px (up to 417 px). Their
  tables already scroll inside overflow-x-auto, but the page grid's `1fr`
  column has an automatic minimum of its content's min-content width, so the
  720 px table widened the column instead of scrolling. Every main+sidebar
  grid (`grid-cols-[1fr_Npx]`, 27 files) now uses `minmax(0,1fr)`.
- 16 Lorem Picsum hero ids no longer exist, so /_next/image answered 404 on
  the article and on every page listing it as related (27 of 1,063 sitemap
  pages). freeLicensedImage drops them, like an unverified host, and
  <BlogCover> draws the cover.

…t paint no longer fails hydration

- /dashboard/calendar rendered its error screen. The calendar and its
  busyness heatmap both subscribed to calendar_events under the topic
  `calendar_events:<family>`; realtime-js returns the channel already open
  under a topic, so the second `.on()` ran after the first `.subscribe()` and
  threw. useRealtimeQuery now opens its channel under a per-hook topic
  (useId), as the sidebar's unread counter already did.
- /dashboard/vacations/new failed hydration (React #418) on every load: Modal
  returned null on the server but rendered its portal during hydration
  (`typeof document` is already defined then). Modal now waits for
  useHydrated(), a useSyncExternalStore flag that is false on the server and
  during hydration, and hands the same flag to useDialogBehavior so the
  focus trap attaches when the dialog actually appears.

…ough

requireFeature and requirePlanLevel let a super administrator through; the
endpoints behind those pages (refuseUnlessEntitled) did not, so for a super
admin whose own family is below Family+, /dashboard/autopilot and
/dashboard/briefing rendered and then got 403 from their own APIs. The gate
now asks the same question, only after the family was refused, and a lookup
that fails stays a refusal. A Family+ family was already served both.

Also: the two contract tests that pinned the exact old lines now pin the new
ones (Modal hands useDialogBehavior `open && hydrated`; the realtime topic is
the shared name plus a per-hook id), the seven E2E fixtures that load Modal
list lib/hooks/use-hydrated.ts, and the crawler records which server answered
a 5xx.

…tried, not reported

- 17 routes had no <h1> and 5 had two. Eleven single-use modules drew their
  page title as an <h3>; it is an <h1> now, same classes. The trip reports
  empty state keeps the page heading. /f/[id] titles its form with
  SectionHeading as="h1". The assistant (whose module also renders inside
  the AI orb), groceries and new-mission routes get a screen-reader <h1>
  from an existing catalogue key. Five admin marketing pages repeated the
  section layout's <h1>; theirs are <h2>.
- The sidebar's preference read is a server action; a client redirect that
  lands while it is in flight cancels it with a network TypeError while the
  sidebar stays mounted, so it logged "preference read failed" and closed
  its write gate on a read that never failed. A network TypeError is now
  retried twice (800 ms, 1.6 s) before being reported.

…udit in finalaudit.md

main carried #588, which found the same 16 dead Lorem Picsum heroes and
fixed them in the same function; its version of lib/blog/posts.ts and its
test are kept and this branch's duplicate test is dropped. The caret test
that arrived with main drives Modal through a hook harness, which now
answers useSyncExternalStore for the hydration flag.

finalaudit.md gains "Page audit — every page on bubaly.com": how bots claim
batches, what a PASS means, findings P-01…P-07, the non-defects with their
evidence, and a status row for every one of the 398 routes.

@NewWorldVenture NewWorldVenture changed the title finalaudit: C1-K-56 released at 0306c985 Page audit (every page on bubaly.com): calendar crash, hydration, layout, headings, admin gate + finalaudit ledger Sep 27, 2026
…ed 503; round 2 and the locale pass in the ledger

/api/mkt/track read the visitor and inserted it when absent; a first page
that sends two events at once had both read before either insert, and the
loser hit mkt_visitors_anonymous_id_key and answered 503 (seen on /ai
locally and on production, answered by Vercel). A unique violation now
re-reads the row the other request created and records against it.

The crawler takes --locale. finalaudit.md records round 2 (the merged tree,
every family and admin route at 1280 and 390, the id-based routes) and the
public pages in the ten other locales on production.

Claiming B7 (the signed-in routes as a teen and as a child), session_01DXw2nu25BjyRfA6Fg3YiMS, 2026-09-27 14:25Z. The ledger isn't on main yet, so the claim is recorded here.

I'm running it on a local stack built from #586's head (main after #583 plus the port), with a seeded household of two parents, a teen with a login and a managed child. The crawler is this PR's scripts/page-audit.mjs, at 1280 and 390 px. The child side runs through a /kid-login session.

Findings will go into the P-series format (next free number when written), fixed in their own PR to main. I'm not taking B6, B8 or B10, and I won't touch #591's lanes; it has no teen or child run.

Codex integration note: current main includes #591 and the worker release #592; #594 added the lane A claim. The media-session follow-up currently touches only the signed-media cache, its tests, the display test harness import graph, and Codex audit reconciliation sections.

Several #585 findings now overlap #591. In particular, #591 records that the global Modal hydration change was withdrawn after the weekly-meal journey timed out; its final repair delays the vacations dialog at its call site. Please preserve that current-main behavior while reconciling any remaining unique fixes from this branch. We are preserving the page audit and permanent finding IDs, and integrating #593’s live/re-crawl-pending documentation separately from workflow pass claims.

Thanks, done in 21112640. This branch's Modal-wide hydration change (P-04) is withdrawn:

P-03 now uses main's ownChannel. Both are noted in the ledger's reconciliation paragraph.

The fixes that exist only on this branch are unchanged:

  • P-01, the grid templates;
  • P-05, the endpoint gate;
  • P-06, headings;
  • P-07, the sidebar retry;
  • P-08, the tracking race;
  • P-09, /favicon.ico;
  • P-10, AI feature requests being refused by RLS.

P-10 restores ledger writes, but it also makes raw assistant prompts newly readable through the existing family-wide ai_requests SELECT policy. At current head 21112640 (unchanged from 45255839 for these files), lib/ai/assistant-engine.ts:458,506 passes input.message, and app/api/ai/chat/route.ts:163 passes message, into withAiRequest. lib/ai/observability.ts:92 only truncates that text; it does not redact it. The new service-client selection at lib/ai/runs/store.ts:117 then persists it as request_text at line128. supabase/migrations/0250_ai_runtime_core.sql:371-372 allows any active family member to SELECT these rows; 0255_ai_runtime_lockdown.sql:4 explicitly leaves broader raw-runtime requester privacy open and does not narrow SELECT. The server now bypasses the INSERT refusal that previously kept these feature rows from being saved.

Please keep the bookkeeping repair but use fixed non-sensitive labels for assistant feature rows (e.g. Assistant turn / Assistant stream / Assistant chat) before merging. The model and conversation flow should retain their existing prompt behavior and access rules. A small regression should pass a distinctive synthetic private phrase through each feature caller and assert that the service-ledger row does not contain it, while the model/conversation still receives the original text. Prefer an enforced safe feature-label convention at the observability boundary if more callers carry free text; leave concierge semantics unchanged. This needs no SQL change.

This is a source-verified data-flow/policy finding, not an executed live-provider disclosure, and it asserts no cross-family access. The existing five P-10 cases verify client selection/payload but not this privacy boundary.

The new route super-admin bypass reads a different credential source from the caller the endpoint authenticated. /api/ai explicitly prioritizes a bearer token (app/api/ai/route.ts:65–69) and passes that bearer-bound client to refuseUnlessEntitled at lines102 and145. The new gate calls isSuperAdmin() without it; lib/supabase/auth.ts:76–78 creates another server client, and lib/supabase/server.ts:32–33 binds that client only to request cookies.

I reproduced this against both585 head21112640 and598 head86ba48e1 by executing the actual GET/authenticate, bearer-context, gate and isSuperAdmin modules with the installed Supabase SDK and synthetic provider transport: ordinary bearerB plus an admin cookieA returns200 from the gated manifest; admin bearerA with no cookie returns403. Same-identity ordinaryB/B403 and adminA/A200 controls pass. Eight cases total: four desired failures, four controls. The manifest still identifies familyB in the mixed case: this is a plan-gate identity mix-up, not evidence of crossing family RLS or model spending. Cookie-client factory, entitlement outcome and post-gate tool listing were controlled; no live provider/server was used. Receipt: Temp/bubaly-mixed-bearer-cookie-gate-20260927.json.

Smallest shared repair: let isSuperAdmin accept an optional authenticated Supabase client (defaulting to createServer() for existing cookie-based pages), and pass the gate's db into it. Keep the entitlement lookup and existing outage behavior explicit. Add these mixed-credential and bearer-only cases without mocking isSuperAdmin itself, so its actual credential selection is exercised. No schema change is needed.

A TEMP-only candidate applying exactly that optional-client contract and passing db from both gate variants now passes all original eight cases plus four cookie-only controls (admin allowed, ordinary refused on each variant):12/12. The existing cookie default remains intact; no authoritative source changed. Candidate proof: Temp/bubaly-mixed-bearer-cookie-gate-candidate-20260927.{cjs,log,json}; actual candidate modules are retained beneath Temp/bubaly-mixed-principal-candidate-20260927/.

…person typed

ai_requests is readable by every active family member (0250), and eight
withAiRequest call sites passed the person's own words (assistant message,
chef request, marketplace question, chore prompt, post topic, trip
destination). Every call site now passes a fixed label; the model and the
conversation still get the original text. A scan holds all call sites to a
literal, and the assistant test proves a private phrase reaches the model
but not the row.

Agreed, and fixed in 711b15c3 (now merged with main at e52ec95a). No SQL change.

What changed. The ledger write stays on the service client. Every one of the 39 withAiRequest call sites now passes a fixed label, not only the assistant's.

  • Assistant: 'Assistant turn', 'Assistant stream' and 'Assistant chat' (from /api/ai/chat).
  • Free text dropped from the chef, marketplace, chores (plan and validate), social, trip, home, briefing, insights, vacations and paperwork call sites. Specifics like the briefing type stay in the feature key.
  • The model and the conversation still receive the original text.
  • AiRequestSpec.text now documents why: the row is family-readable under 0250.

How it's enforced. tests/an-ai-request-row-never-carries-what-was-typed.test.ts scans every call site under app/ and lib/. It fails on any text: that isn't a string literal or a catalogue string. It turned red when I put text: message back in the chat route.

Privacy regression test. tests/assistant-engine.test.ts passes the synthetic phrase zq-private-phrase-7731 … through both the JSON turn and the stream. It asserts that the provider received the phrase, that the user message was persisted to the conversation, and that the ai_requests row does not contain it. The stream case fails if lib/ai/assistant-engine.ts is reverted.

Concierge requests are unchanged: they still go through the member's own client and RLS.

Confirmed, and fixed in ceb97afa as you proposed. No schema change.

The fix

  • isSuperAdmin(client?) takes the authenticated client. It still defaults to createServer(), so every cookie-based page is unchanged.
  • refuseUnlessEntitled passes its db (the client the endpoint authenticated) to callerIsSuperAdmin(db).
  • A lookup that throws is still a refusal, and the entitlement and outage paths are untouched.

Tests. tests/a-super-admin-page-and-its-endpoint-agree.test.ts now runs the real isSuperAdmin and fakes only the bearer and cookie clients (via SUPER_ADMIN_EMAILS and createServer). It has 7 cases:

  • ordinary bearer with an admin cookie → 403;
  • admin bearer with no cookie → allowed;
  • the cookie client is never consulted when a client is passed;
  • plus controls: ordinary → 403, admin → allowed, entitled family → no lookup, failed lookup → 403.

With the two source files reverted, 4 of the 7 fail.
