What does this PR do?

Adds end-to-end DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash (deepseek_v41) multimodal training, checkpoint conversion/export, and inference support in SeedOmni (omniv2), building on the deepseek_v4 foundations merged in #1344 and #1345:

  1. SeedOmni deepseek_v41 Module Family (veomni/models/seed_omni/modules/deepseek_v41/):
    • deepseek_v41_vision: 24-layer native-resolution ViT + patch merger (merge=2) with 2D RoPE, dynamic patch grid preprocessing (DeepseekV41VisionPreprocessor), and Ulysses SP (ulysses_size > 1, cp_size = 1).
    • deepseek_v41_ngram: 3-table hashed n-gram lookup (15.12M total rows across 2-/3-/4-gram tables, 91.6 GiB FP8 / 183.2 GiB BF16) with tid2eid canonical token compression, emb ExtraParallel row-sharding (ShardedEmbedding), and native FP8 row-wise dequantization on lookup.
    • deepseek_v41_text_encoder: Shared token embedding (129,280 × 4,096) and untied LM head with DeepSeek-V4.1 chat template (thinking_mode, reasoning_effort, <image> token expansion), rank-0 token agreement (_agree_on_token), and DSpark slot-0 draft CE (mtp_loss) via chunk_loss logits_bias.
    • deepseek_v41_llm: 40-layer CED MoE backbone (n_routed_experts: 256 on layers 0..25, 384 on 26..39, 32 on MTP stages 40..42) with Multi-Head Latent Attention + TileLang DSA (sparse_attn_tilelang, lightning_indexer_loss) and per-layer sliding window (128 / 512), Manifold-Constrained Hyper-Connections (mHC 4-stream Sinkhorn-Knopp), Engram n-gram gated residual connections at layers [1, 26], QAT FP8/NVFP4 fake-quantization (veomni/ops/qat/gemm.py), Context Parallelism (SequenceShard), and 3-stage DSpark MTP training & speculative decoding.
    • Reuses veomni/models/transformers/deepseek_v4/ primitives (DSparkMarkovHead, DSparkConfidenceHead, dense_sparse_attn, main_window_indices, _FP4_E2M1_VALUES, _dequantize_scaled_weight, split_moe_params, validate_deepseek_v4_export_quant_support).
  2. Direct HF Layout (OmniHFLayout), Streaming EP/Emb Load, & Single-Root FP8/FP4 Export:
    • Registers deepseek_v4 in OMNI_HF_LAYOUT_REGISTRY (veomni/models/seed_omni/modules/deepseek_v41/hf_layout.py) so tasks/omni/train_omni.py and tasks/omni/infer_omni.py load directly from the upstream 48-shard FP8/NVFP4 checkpoint without an offline split copy.
    • Extends CheckpointTensorConverter and load_model_weights_ep_sharded (veomni/models/checkpoint/convert.py, veomni/models/checkpoint/weights.py) with dim0_rowwise_companion / convert_rows for streaming row-sharded FP8 tables and per-stage expert counts (384 vs 256 vs 32).
    • Extends save_hf_source_checkpoint (veomni/models/seed_omni/utils/hf_layout.py) and save_safetensor_utils.py to re-quantize trained BF16 weights back to release FP8/NVFP4, stream oversized carried frozen tables (_read_carried_tensors) across ranks as Shard(0) DTensors, and support deferred rank-shard merging (scripts/merge_hf_export.py) for oversized row-sharded tables.
  3. Distributed Runtime & ExtraParallel Enhancements:
    • Adds fsdp_config.extra_parallel_only (veomni/arguments/arguments_types.py, veomni/distributed/torch_parallelize.py, veomni/distributed/fsdp2/clip_grad_norm.py, veomni/checkpoint/dcp_checkpointer.py) for modules whose bulk is sharded by ExtraParallel (ep / emb) or mixes storage dtypes (quantized FP8/FP4 inference and emb-sharded tables).
    • Supports per-node named loss dicts ({"_loss": {"ce_loss": ..., "mtp_loss": ...}}) in OmniModel.forward (veomni/models/seed_omni/modeling_omni.py), logged as {module}.{method}.{loss_name}.
    • Adds training & inference YAML configs under configs/seed_omni/DeepSeek/deepseek_v41_flash/ (base.yaml, full.yaml, full128.yaml, overfit.yaml, overfit_mtp.yaml, scaled64*.yaml, modules_infer_fsdp.yaml, modules_infer_eager.yaml).

First of the four DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash modules: the n-gram memory lookup.

Gathering the rows depends only on input_ids and the image mask, so it runs
ahead of the backbone as its own graph node. The other half of what the
released checkpoint calls Engram -- wkv and the gate -- reads the mHC residual
stream at layers 1 and 14 and will live in deepseek_v41_llm. Cutting here also
costs ~24 KB/token on the edge instead of the residual stream's ~102 KB/token.

The bucket layout is ported from the released inference/engram.py without
sympy: trial division reproduces the same prime draw, and the derived row
counts come out as 384006168 / 384016682, matching the checkpoint's
engram_num_embeddings exactly. Hash ids, lookback blocking (an n-gram never
spans an image span or reaches past position 0) and the incremental decode
path are all verified bit-identical against the reference.

The position cache is optional rather than always-on: training is prefill-only
over the whole packed sequence, so only the generation FSM needs history.

token_map is a persistent buffer baked in by the convert step rather than
rebuilt here, because every hash multiplier derives from the compressed vocab
size -- a map rebuilt from a different tokenizer revision would silently
rehash both tables.

The two tables hold 196.6B parameters and are row-split over the emb
extra-parallel group, which puts ~23 GiB on each of 8 ranks in FP8.

The vision module emits an image's whole LLM span (aligner rows plus the three
learned delimiters), so the text side never has to know an image layout. Images
of a micro-batch run as one varlen ViT forward with cu_seqlens at the image
boundaries, which is the same computation as the reference's per-image loop.

The text encoder ports the wire format from the checkpoint's encoding.py, which
is the only place it exists -- the checkpoint ships no chat_template.json and no
jinja template. Verified against the released encoder on 10 cases covering chat
and thinking modes, mid-conversation system messages, tool schemas, DSML tool
calls and response formats.

The config keeps V4.1's own per-layer integer compress_ratios rather than
subclassing DeepseekV4Config: V4 maps a legacy ratio list through
{0: sliding, 4: CSA, 128: HCA}, and V4.1's ratios are 0/2/1, so
DeepseekV4Config(**text_config) raises KeyError: 2 before anything is built.
Ratio 1 is a plain projection with no pooling gate, which V4's two-name layer
taxonomy has no slot for. validate_layer_schedule refuses the combinations that
would otherwise fail silently -- a short ratio list, or a KV source that does not
compress.

The Engram connection (wkv + gate) is the half of Engram that reads the mHC
residual stream and so stays in the backbone; the lookup is the separate
deepseek_v41_ngram module. Verified bit-exact against the released
inference/model.py Engram, masked and unmasked.
…outer divergences

gate_temp is absent from the released config.json so it always resolves to the
reference default of 1.0, but a checkpoint shipping a non-unit value would be
dropped on load and change routing with no error. Also record that V4.1
renormalises top-k weights conditionally while V4 does so unconditionally, which
is why the V4 router gets subclassed rather than imported.

Compressor, two-level indexer and the sparse attention assembly, rewritten for
training from the inference-only released implementation: the decode caches drop
out, the shared-state global becomes an explicit carrier threaded down the layer
loop so activation checkpointing cannot read a stale publication, rotation moves
out of place, and the in-place fp8/fp4 round-trips become QAT fake quantization.

Packed samples are the one addition with no counterpart upstream. A compression
group must not straddle a sample boundary and a query must not reach another
sample's groups; both come out of CompressionPlan, with the unpacked case as its
single-slice degenerate form rather than a second path.

Verified against the released inference/model.py at small shapes: rope schedules
and application match to fp32 rounding, the compressor is bit-exact at both
ratios, and candidate-block and top-k selections are identical. On device the
sparse attention agrees with an eager gather-and-softmax recomputation.

Reusing deepseek_v4's RMSNorm and GroupedLinear through one device-aware import;
the rotary schedule is written out because HuggingFace's YaRN initializer folds
an mscale factor into cos/sin that the released precompute_freqs_cis does not.

The indexer emits top-k indices, and topk does not propagate into what it
ranked, so its projections are unreachable from the attention output and a
full-parameter run would silently leave them frozen. Port V4's objective: the
teacher is the attention's own mass on each selected compressed slot, read off
the log-sum-exp the sparse forward already computes, and the student is the
indexer's score at those same slots.

Two V4.1-specific choices. The indexer is shared across the layers following its
source, so the teacher is the source layer's own attention -- the layers reusing
the selection have their own distributions and no say, which is inherent to one
indexer serving several. And the student is gathered from the scores *before*
the candidate mask: the mask prefilters which slots are considered, it is not
part of the distribution being trained, and gathering after it would put -inf
against slots the teacher gives mass to.

Off by default, since it costs a second kernel pass. A non-positive coefficient
counts as off rather than as a zero-weighted term, so that it does not build a
graph whose backward writes zero grads onto parameters the objective meant to
leave alone.

Attention.forward now always returns (output, indexer_loss) rather than changing
arity with the flag, so no call site has to re-derive which layers return what.

Verified on device: the indexer's four tensors go from unreachable to reached
with finite gradients. The KL itself is checked against distributions with known
answers -- a student equal to log(target) pays zero, a uniform student pays
exactly the reference, and an all-miss row does not poison the backward.

…ayer

Completes the per-layer stack under seed_omni/modules/deepseek_v41/llm/.

mhc.py splits what V4 fuses. DeepseekV4HyperConnection returns
(post, comb, collapsed) and consumes its own `pre` internally, and the
`mhc.pre` kernel makes the same assumption one level down. V4.1 uses each
site's `pre` at the *next* site -- attention collapses with the previous
block's FFN coefficients -- so the mixes and the collapse become separate
entry points. The expand is unaffected and still goes through the existing
`mhc.post` kernel, which is the heaviest of the three.

moe.py imports DeepseekV4Experts and DeepseekV4MLP unchanged, behind a
locally written router. V4.1 divides the logits by `gate_temp`, selects a
second correction bias for tokens inside an image span, and renormalises
only when `norm_topk_prob and num_experts_per_tok > 1`; three of the five
lines in V4's forward differ, so subclassing would override it in full while
inheriting the wrong buffers. Both correction biases are buffers, matching
V3 / V4 / GLM-MoE-DSA: under the aux-loss-free scheme they track expert load
by a sign rule and must not be stepped by the optimizer.

decoder_layer.py threads the one-site-delayed `pre` and returns the router
logits and indexer KL as values rather than attributes, so gradient
checkpointing cannot strip their graph.

Config gains `mlp_bias`, joining `intermediate_size` / `num_local_experts`
as the aliases the reused V4 classes read.

Verified against the released inference/model.py on CPU (24/24: the mHC
mixes against a transcription of kernel.py's hc_split_sinkhorn and again
against DeepseekV4HyperConnection; the router across four gate_temp /
norm_topk_prob / top-k / VL combinations; the MoE block end to end at
2.6e-08) and end to end on an H20 in bf16 (20/20, including that every
backbone parameter receives a finite gradient and the indexer receives one
only through the auxiliary KL).

Wires the 40 decoder layers into a module: the Engram writes, the final
collapse, and the OmniModule shell around them.

Three orderings in the layer loop follow the released implementation and
would each be plausible if wrong. The Engram lookup is added to the stream
*before* its layer, so that layer's attention is the first thing to see it;
adding it after would hand the n-gram to the next layer. The DSpark hook
reads a target layer's input rather than its output, matching where
`main_hiddens.append` sits in the reference. The final collapse uses the
last layer's outgoing FFN `pre` rather than one derived from the final
stream -- which is what `DeepseekV4HyperHead` does, and why it is not
reused.

Sample boundaries come from `position_ids` alone, via
`sequence_slices_from_positions`, rather than from a second argument that
could disagree with them.

No embedding and no LM head: both live in deepseek_v41_text_encoder, which
also serves the DSpark draft stages, so this module takes inputs_embeds and
returns hidden states. Both accessors raise rather than inheriting HF's
default, which fails from inside PreTrainedModel and reads like a bug here
rather than the module boundary it is.

The accelerated layer lands with it because the registry invariant ties
them together. It adds the EP plan over the routed experts, an image mask
built alongside the packing rather than in a second pass over the
conversation, and a length check on the incoming n-gram rows -- they are
positional, so a mismatch pairs each token with another token's memory at
the right shape. Ulysses SP is refused: the compression groups and
candidate blocks are built in Python over the whole sequence before any
kernel runs, so a sequence-sharded rank would pool across shard
boundaries.

The meter does not inherit the dense backbones' quadratic attention term.
V4.1 reads sliding_window + index_topk entries per query however long the
sequence is; only the eager indexer grows with the square, and only on the
index source layers. The estimate implies a stable ~27G active parameters
from 2k to 32k tokens.

Verified on CPU (37 tests: loop ordering, refusals, KL aggregation, the
mask, the plan fqns against the real module tree, meter linearity at the
released dimensions) and end-to-end on GPU in bf16 (15 checks). Packing is
bitwise exact for the sample whose indices do not shift and within one ulp
for the one that does; at six layers the gap is 2.5 ulps, and rewriting one
packed sample moves the other by exactly zero.

The n-gram node emits one row per position of the packed sequence, and the
backbone indexes those rows positionally. So the sequence packed here has
to be the sequence the backbone packs -- image spans included.

The shared `pack_input_ids` cannot supply it: it collects text items only,
because that is what the text encoder embeds. A row built that way is
shorter than the backbone's by the length of every image, and hashes
n-grams straight across the spans an image is supposed to interrupt.
`pack_ngram_inputs` covers the full row, contributing pad ids and a false
mask for image spans -- pad rather than the image placeholder token because
pad is already what a blocked lookback compresses to, so the two ways a
position can be unhashable agree instead of merely both working.

An image span's length is however many tokens the ViT produced for it,
which makes `vision -> ngram` a real edge rather than a convenience
ordering. The training graph states it.

Text ids now come from `meta['input_ids']`. `encode` overwrites each text
item's `value` with its embedding, so reading `value` would only be correct
when the executor happened to schedule this node first -- and it does not
have to, since ngram and text_encoder.encode both depend on vision and on
nothing else. DeepseekV41ChatTemplate stashes the copy at tokenize and
keeps it in step through merge, the way BAGEL's template already does. The
override is additive: value, labels and attention_mask are bitwise
identical to the base's.

13 tests: the two packers agreeing on length over the same conversation,
the text-only packing being rejected by the backbone's check, the ids
surviving encode, the merge keeping the copy in step, and the mask reaching
compress as DEAD.

The released checkpoint ships every dense projection as fp8 with a block
scale, and the routed experts as fp4 packed two values to a byte with a
block scale of their own. Training wants bf16 master weights in both cases:
the fp4 QAT in DeepseekV4Experts fake-quantizes *from* bf16, so handing it
fp4 storage would quantize an already-quantized tensor and lose a second
time.

Two orderings carry the risk here, and neither fails loudly if reversed. A
scale applied along the wrong axis yields finite weights of the right shape,
and the model trains to a worse loss rather than crashing. The fp4 nibble
order transposes adjacent pairs of input features, which nothing downstream
can detect. The gate/up fusion is the same kind of thing: `_apply_gate`
chunks the projection output and clamps the halves differently, so
reversing them puts the one-sided clamp on `up`.

Verified against the released converter rather than only against itself:
the fp8 path against the expression in inference/convert.py, the fp4 path
against a per-element decode of the bit layout that does not reference the
implementation, and the fusion by round-tripping through the same
`chunk(2)` the experts module uses. 20 tests.

Also verified on real tensors from the 510 GB checkpoint. `layers.2.attn.
wo_a` is fp8_e4m3fn (8192, 4096) with an e8m0 (256, 128) scale, so a 32x32
block, and dequantizes to std 0.0239. `layers.2.ffn.experts.0.w1` is int8
(2304, 2560) with an e8m0 (2304, 160) scale, unpacks to (2304, 5120), and
dequantizes to std 0.0236 -- two independent quantization paths resolving to
the same weight distribution.

Splits the released checkpoint into the four SeedOmni V2 module folders.

Unlike the other families' converters this one never builds the model. The
release is 510 GB across 48 shards and 96,085 tensors, and dequantizing to
bf16 roughly triples it, so `from_pretrained` followed by `save_pretrained`
would need the whole thing resident twice. Tensors are read through the
checkpoint's own index, transformed, and flushed to output shards as they
go; peak memory is one MoE layer's experts rather than one model.

The release is already in the reference inference stack's naming, not
HuggingFace's -- inference/convert.py's renames have been applied to it
already -- so this walks them back rather than forward. `attn_norm` and
`ffn_norm` become the HF spellings the decoder layer declares, `ffn.gate.
bias` becomes `e_score_correction_bias`, `hc_attn_*` splits by site, and
`w1/w2/w3` become gate/down/up. The vision tower is the exception: its
names match DeepseekV41Vision exactly and pass through untouched.

The two Engram tables are dequantized to bf16, doubling them to 393 GB.
That is a deliberate interim: the tables are expected to stay frozen, so
fp8 storage with dequant-on-gather would halve them, but DeepseekV41Ngram
holds them in an nn.Embedding with nowhere to keep the scales.

token_map is baked from the tokenizer, and the compressed vocabulary size
it produces is checked against the config. Every hash multiplier is derived
from that size, so a tokenizer revision that compressed differently would
address both 384M-row tables differently from the one that trained them --
every lookup returning a wrong row, with nothing downstream failing.

The 2,401 mtp.* tensors are the DSpark draft stages, counted and reported
rather than silently dropped.

Verified two ways. 22 tests over a synthetic checkpoint in the released
layout -- fp8 dense with block scales, fp4 packed experts, a multi-shard
index -- ending in a load_state_dict against the real module definitions
with no unexpected and no missing keys, which a merely self-consistent
rename cannot pass. And against the real checkpoint: 915 tensors across all
40 layers, shapes read from the safetensors headers and compared to a
meta-device model built from the real config, 0 mismatched.

Parameter counts from building all four modules at the released config:
vision 0.49B, text_encoder 1.32B, ngram 196.61B, llm 550.56B, 748.98B in
total. The first three match the figures already in the family docstring;
the llm number was not recorded there and now is.

The knowledge note is a draft of the Lark working document's next revision.
This machine cannot reach open.feishu.cn -- IPv4 fails immediately and IPv6
times out -- so lark-cli cannot write it, and the content lives in the repo
until it can be synced.

Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>
An agent shell does not inherit the corporate proxy or the nvm bin
directory, so Hub-backed tests and lark-cli fail there while the same
commands work in the user's terminal. Both read as an outage or a
missing binary, and DNS resolving through NAT64 makes the network case
look healthier than it is.

Drops the deepseek_v41 Step 2 draft, which existed only because the
Lark doc could not be reached; its content now lives in the doc itself.

…ig and the ngram freeze hook

The model had only a training graph, so it could not be launched. Adds
the launcher, the per-module overrides and the data mix alongside it.

The per-module file is where the four modules stop resembling each
other: 0.49 B of vision under plain FSDP2, two emb-parallel modules, and
550.56 B of backbone on ep_size 8. base.yaml pins ulysses_size to 1
because deepseek_v41_llm raises on sequence parallelism rather than
pooling across shard boundaries.

G1 settled on training with the n-gram tables frozen, but the runtime
honours a module's freeze flag only by looking up freeze_model, so the
config field alone would have been accepted and ignored -- and AdamW
would have carried moments for 196.6 B rows. Adds the config field and
the method together, with tests covering the silent case: that the hook
is findable, and that the tables really are the module's only
parameters.

Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>
The module exposes functions, not a CLI; conversion is dispatched by
scripts/convert_model.py off the checkpoint's model_type, which
deepseek_v41 already registers for.

…memory mapping

safetensors' save_file serializes through a memory map, which the HDFS
FUSE mount does not implement and fails with OSError 38. That mount is
where this model has to be written: dequantising 478 GB of fp8/fp4 to
bf16 yields roughly 1.5 TB, and the local disk holds 478 GB.

ShardWriter now probes the destination once with a one-tensor file. Where
the map works it keeps writing in place; where it does not it writes each
shard to local scratch and moves it across, so peak local use is one
shard rather than a whole module. A probe rather than a path heuristic,
because the same mount type can be configured either way.

…izes

The config folded the tokenizer's vocabulary (129280) and the base the
engram bucket primes are drawn above (16000000) into one vocab_size.
They are unrelated quantities three orders of magnitude apart, and the
released config keeps them apart as vocab_size and engram_vocab_size.

Conflated, token_map was allocated with 16M int64 rows instead of 129280
and the convert step refused every real checkpoint, since no tokenizer
has 16M tokens. The prime draw and the bucket floor now read
hash_vocab_size while token_map is sized by vocab_size, which is also
what the field means everywhere else in transformers.

…ept their per-row scale

Two things stopped the real conversion at the n-gram tables.

The fp8 block guard admitted only the square (32, 32) and (128, 128)
blockings. The tables are blocked (1, 32) -- one exponent per row per 32
columns -- because a row of an embedding table is an independent memory
and sharing an exponent across 32 unrelated rows costs range on all of
them. The reference never hits this: the block assertion it carries is
scoped to wo_a, the only tensor it dequantizes.

Each table is also 98 GB of fp8, so the ordinary path's float32
intermediate is 393 GB before the bf16 result is allocated. Rows are now
read through get_slice a chunk at a time, keeping only the bf16 output
resident. Chunks are whole numbers of scale blocks; a split one would
pair rows with a neighbouring block's exponent.

…ed V4.1 checkpoint

The backbone is 1.1 TB in bf16 against 765 GB of GPU memory, and the
sparse attention is a TileLang kernel so CPU is not an alternative. A
single forward pass never needs every layer at once: layers run in order
and nothing reads a layer's weights after it has run. Each layer's
parameters are read from the shards on entry and released on exit, which
puts the peak at one layer -- measured 30.9 GB.

The measurement is cross-entropy on natural text, which exercises
dequantisation, tensor naming, n-gram row addressing, mHC wiring and MoE
routing in one number: any of them wrong and the model falls back to
roughly the uniform 11.77 nats. On the converted checkpoint it scores
2.094 nats against 15.551 for random token ids.

--self-test runs a small model both streamed and fully resident and
requires bit-identical output, so a harness bug cannot be mistaken for a
conversion bug.

…for aarch64

Grace queues (GB200 / GH200) reject an x86 image, and two things stood in the
way of an arm64 one.

The ViT selected its varlen attention backend on IS_CUDA_AVAILABLE and imported
flash_attn at module scope. FA2 publishes no aarch64 wheel and pyproject.toml
already scopes flash-attn to x86_64, so a Grace node has CUDA and no flash_attn:
the import raised and took the whole deepseek_v41 package down. Select on the
package being importable instead. The SDPA fallback this reaches was already
written and is bit-identical to FA2 on packed varlen input.

Dockerfile.cu130 now builds both architectures rather than gaining an .arm
sibling: FROM pins no platform, so buildx resolves the multi-arch NGC manifest
per target. APT_SOURCE defaults to empty instead of to archive.ubuntu.com --
the base image ships the right sources.list per arch, and comparing against one
hardcoded URL would have pointed an arm64 build at an x86-only mirror.
…ation path needs

attention.py is prefill: it builds every layer's KV from the hidden states in
front of it and discards it. Decoding needs one query against KV computed on
earlier steps, which is the state prefill deliberately does not keep.

The opening piece is the attention itself. It runs dense rather than through
sparse_attn_tilelang, because at S == 1 the gathered pool is 640 rows at the
production shape -- cheaper to materialize than to launch a kernel tiled for
thousands of query rows -- and because the kernel needs SM90+ and TileLang,
which would tie inspecting a checkpoint to the training accelerator.

That only pays if it is the kernel's equal rather than its approximation, so it
is tested against the kernel with both kinds of miss the real caller emits: -1
from a window that is not yet full, and out-of-range from an indexer that found
fewer visible groups than index_topk.

Two things fell out of pinning it there.

The sink belongs in the max the exponentials are shifted by, not just in the
denominator. Shifting by the scores' max alone is stable for the output, since
0/inf is 0, but sends the LSE to +inf on a fully masked query -- where that max
is -inf and the shift becomes exp(sink + 1e30). Such queries are routine: the
first token of every packed sample has no complete compression group behind it.

The kernel's LSE is base two. It exponentiates with exp2 and does not convert on
the way out, while its wrapper documented the tensor only as "the log-sum-exp".
A natural-log consumer is wrong by a uniform 1.4427, and uniform is the hard
part: the only consumer, sparse_mqa_target_fwd, takes the LSE as a renormalizer,
and a uniformly scaled one still yields a teacher distribution summing to one.
Documented on the kernel, and pinned by a test.
The multi-arch edits in b3edda7 turned out to be unnecessary: the file builds
for linux/arm64 as it stood, and the failure that prompted them
("The current queue requires an ARM image", then a sed against ./) came from
the build platform rather than from anything here.

Reverts only the two docker/ files. The ViT's FA2 import guard from the same
commit stays: it is a runtime property of aarch64, not of how the image is
built. uv omits flash-attn there by marker, so a Grace node has CUDA and no
flash_attn whichever Dockerfile produced it.
The attention was prefill-only: every forward recomputed the compressed
history and the sliding window from the whole sequence, so generating N
tokens cost N full forwards.

Adds the carried state and a single-token step beside it. Three tensors per
layer with three growth laws -- a trimmed sliding window every layer keeps,
an append-only compressed history only kv_source layers hold, and the
partial group still filling. A group is a function of its own ratio tokens
and nothing later, which is what makes the history append-only.

The step is a free function rather than a method, so the training forward
keeps one code path and cannot acquire a decode branch it never takes. It
reads every projection off the module it is passed, so both paths share the
arithmetic and not just the weights.

Visibility needs no mask here: a query at position p may see (p+1)//ratio
groups, and that is exactly how many the cache holds once the step has run.

Verified against prefill position by position on a config tuned to make each
mechanism bite -- the window wraps several times, a group is half-filled on
every odd position, and one layer is kv source, index source and candidate
source at once. The selection is also compared as indices, where tolerance
cannot hide an off-by-one.

Two findings, both pinned as tests:

- The compressor pools in fp32 whatever dtype the model carries, and prefill
runs that matmul over the sequence while a step runs it over one group.
~1 ULP of fp32 apart, so ratio-2 paths compare at 1e-6 while ratio-1 and
  window-only ones stay exact.
- A candidate budget below index_topk makes both paths pad the top-k with
entries scored -inf, and topk breaks that tie by array width, which the two
paths do not share. Finite picks agree; padding does not. This cannot arise
at the shipped 16384-against-512 ratio, and TestStarvedCandidates records
the boundary rather than leaving it to be rediscovered.
The hashing was already incremental -- gather_lookback takes history and
start_pos, and forward hands back the ngram_compressed ids the next call
needs. What was missing is the bookkeeping, and the part worth writing down
is how little has to be kept.

An n-gram ending at a position reaches back max_ngram_size - 1 tokens and no
further, so that is the entire cache: a fixed-width tail, not a transcript. A
thousand-token conversation carries the same three ids a four-token one does.

The two arguments look like they must agree, and gather_lookback's docstring
describes history as [B, start_pos], but they are independent: history sets
how far back the walk can read, start_pos only tells the blocking rule
whether the walk has reached the true start of the sequence. Keeping a short
tail against an honest start_pos is exact, not an approximation.

The cache is a class rather than two arguments at the call site because one
combination corrupts silently. history=None with a non-zero start_pos leaves
the walk unblocked, clamps its index to 0, and hashes the query token against
itself -- no error, ordinary-looking ids. DeepseekV41NgramCache cannot hold
that pair, and a test pins that the corruption is real so the guard is not
mistaken for ceremony later.

Hash ids are integers, so the equivalence tests compare exactly: token by
token, prompt-then-steps at five split points, and an image span placed so
the dead tokens sit in the prompt while the queries that must not reach them
sit in the steps after it -- blocking there depends on the cache carrying
DEAD and on nothing the step can see.
Extends the decode path from the attention up to the whole stack. The layer
step is a line-for-line copy of DeepseekV41DecoderLayer.forward with the
attention call swapped, because everything else in that method -- both Hyper-
Connections, both collapses, the expansions and the MoE -- is a function of
one position and carries nothing between tokens. Only attention had history.

The backbone step rebuilds expand_to_streams and identity_pre_mix every
token rather than carrying them: the streams start from this token's
embedding and the identity pre is a constant of the shape, so neither is
history and neither belongs in a cache. SharedAttentionState is likewise per
step -- it carries a source layer's compressed KV down the stack within one
token, while what crosses tokens is the per-layer cache it republishes from.

Verified position by position against the prefill forward on a stack that
has mHC, an Engram connection and a routed MoE, which is the check the copy
needs: if forward grows a step this misses, the hidden states move and every
position is compared. MoE routing is discrete and did not flip, so the fp32
compressor error is well inside the gap between competing experts here.

A backbone with Engram connections and no ngram_embeds raises rather than
skipping the lookup, matching forward -- skipping would leave the stack
running and wrong.
Adds generate() for the two modules that lacked it and the generation graph
that drives them. Vision and the text encoder already had theirs.

Everything moves on the conversation carrier. The backbone reads the prompt
through pack_llm_conversations_for_forward, which yields the flat arange of
positions that build_compression_plans wants, and derives its image mask from
the same items in the same order with the same dummy filter, so the mask lines
up with the embeddings by construction rather than by a shared length
assumption.

The backbone keeps no HF past_key_values -- V4.1's attention is not a KV cache
but a window, an append-only compressed history and a partial group per layer,
which DeepseekV41DecodeCache holds. Prefill steps the prompt instead of
calling the batched forward: the batched pass builds no cache, so the prompt
would have to be walked anyway to fill one, and the batched work would be done
twice. That costs S sequential steps on a first turn; making it fast means
filling the caches from a batched pass's intermediates, which would be a third
expression of the compression and window rules and is worth doing only behind
the per-position test that now exists.

The n-gram node hashes token ids, and the sampled one had no route onto the
carrier. The text encoder now stashes it under meta['input_ids'] -- the key
training already reads -- after maybe_merge_outputs rather than before, since
merging rebuilds the tail and a meta set on the pre-merge item is dropped on
exactly the step that merges.

pack_ngram_inputs moves out of accelerated/ into its own module. It is carrier
packing, not acceleration, and both the training hooks and generate() need it;
left where it was, the inference mixin closed a cycle through modeling.

The FSM body order is asserted against GenerationGraph.iter_nodes rather than
re-derived, because a body in the wrong order fails silently: run the n-gram
node before the sampler and meta['input_ids'] still holds the previous step's
id, so every n-gram shifts one token late and nothing raises. The runtime's
rule is that an edge into a node counts only when it appears before that node's
first use as a source, which is what lets the text encoder both open a body and
receive the backbone's output at the end of it. prompt_encode runs vision,
ngram, text encoder, backbone -- the text encoder once, so no token is sampled
there; text_ar runs sampler, ngram, backbone.
…te gate

Points base.yaml at the generation graph, adds the eager per-module fragment,
and tests generate() against the forward it has to agree with.

base.yaml carried a comment saying there was no inference graph because the
attention stack had no KV cache. Both halves are now false, so it is replaced
by the infer_graph map rather than left to mislead.

The eager fragment turns gradient checkpointing off on every module: it trades
compute for activation memory across a backward, and inference has none, so
left on it recomputes every layer for nothing. Training enables it for the
backbone alone, which is the one place it pays.

The end-to-end test drives the module the FSM drives, standing in for the text
encoder by writing the next embedding onto the tail output item -- what that
module does after sampling. It covers what only the wiring can get wrong: the
carrier walk, the cache living on the module across calls, the position
counter advancing once per step, and reset_global_inference_state actually
clearing both. Without that reset nothing raises; the next request just
attends to the previous conversation's tokens and reads fluently.

The config tests exist because this class of mistake has no symptom until a
run starts. A renamed graph file leaves base.yaml dangling while the FSM tests
keep passing against a file nothing loads, and a module key that does not match
the converter's folder names is a load error much later. Both are now checked
against each other rather than by eye.
DeepSeek-V4.1 ships fp8 dense weights and fp4 experts. Running it in that
precision needs a GEMM that consumes a quantized weight directly; the existing
deepseek_v4 kernels cover only the quantizers, because QAT fake-quantizes in
bf16 and then calls an ordinary F.linear.

Both are ported from the same upstream kernel.py as their quantizer siblings.
The output dtype is a parameter rather than torch.get_default_dtype(): upstream
compiles the kernel for bf16 while allocating the output with the global
default, which only agrees because upstream sets that default at import.

Tested against the dequantized operands multiplied in float32, which is exact
because every scale is an e8m0 power of two. A float32 output agrees to 2e-8; a
bf16 output is held to no worse than correct rounding.

Co-authored-by: Cursor <cursoragent@cursor.com>
The bf16 output is 1.5 TB and does not fit on eight H20s. It also is not what
inference wants: the release ships fp8 dense weights and fp4 experts, and
fp8_gemm/fp4_gemm consume those directly. So precision picks the output rather
than one being policy -- bf16 stays the training output, because the fp4 QAT in
DeepseekV4Experts fake-quantizes from bf16 and would otherwise quantize an
already-quantized tensor.

Native keeps every released dtype and carries each scale as <param>_scale, one
rule covering a submodule's weight and a bare stacked parameter alike. Fusing
gate_up and stacking the experts applies to a scale exactly as to its weight:
fp4 packs along the input dimension and a block scale covers 32 columns of one
row, so both concatenate along the output dimension.

Also adds a modules filter, so adding the DSpark tensors later does not have to
redo the 269 GiB of experts.

The fixture's block scales were float32 where the release stores e8m0. That
made a native expert look 18% larger than it is, and meant no test had ever
exercised the dtype the checkpoint actually uses.

docs/seed_omni/usage/training_and_inference.md:105-110
📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Update the stale direct-load requirement now that deepseek_v41 streams from the release.

Lines 83-86 now list deepseek_v41 as a family that loads an upstream checkpoint directly. Lines 105-107 still say that direct HF loading requires "standard weight loading (ep_sharded_stream_load: false)".

This PR contradicts that requirement in several places:

  • load_model_weights_ep_sharded renames source keys through the HFSourceKeyConverter (hf_layout.md, Line 118).
  • base.yaml documents direct release loading "including under ep_sharded_stream_load".
  • The verification report runs Task 1a with ep_sharded_stream_load: true straight from the release.

A user who reads this page will turn off the streaming load. The 196.6 B n-gram tables then cannot be read whole on each rank, so the run fails.

Update the Requirements paragraph for direct HF loading to remove the
requirement that ep_sharded_stream_load be false and state that streaming loads
with ep_sharded_stream_load enabled are supported for deepseek_v41. Keep the
single-upstream-checkpoint and default model_path conditions, and leave the
separate save_hf_weights requirements unchanged.

Snapshot cost grows with the compressed history on every verified draft token.

_verify_block calls DeepseekV41DecodeCache.snapshot() once per draft token. snapshot() clones every layer's compress_kv and index_k. The DeepseekV41AttentionCache docstring says these tensors are append-only and unbounded. At long context, each speculative step therefore copies the full compressed history of every KV-source layer. The cost grows linearly with context length and multiplies by dspark_block_size.

The compressed fields are append-only. A rollback only needs their lengths, so record compressed_len and truncate on restore. Keep the clone only for the bounded window and pending tensors.

♻️ Sketch
     def snapshot(self) -> dict[str, torch.Tensor | None]:
         return {
"window": None if self.window is None else self.window.clone(),
-            "compress_kv": None if self.compress_kv is None else self.compress_kv.clone(),
-            "index_k": None if self.index_k is None else self.index_k.clone(),
+ "compress_len": None if self.compress_kv is None else self.compress_kv.shape[1],
+ "index_len": None if self.index_k is None else self.index_k.shape[1],
"pending": None if self.pending is None else self.pending.clone(),
         }

This change has a matching restore in attention.py. That restore slices compress_kv[:, :compress_len] (or sets it to None).

Update DeepseekV41AttentionCache snapshot and restore so snapshots store the
lengths of append-only compress_kv and index_k tensors instead of cloning them,
then truncate those tensors to the saved lengths on restore (or set them to None
when the saved length is None). Keep cloning the bounded window and pending
tensors, and preserve DeepseekV41DecodeCache.snapshot’s per-layer delegation.

[P1] With do_sample=True, a rejected draft's target sample is discarded, so the next text_encoder.generate() samples again from the same distribution. This biases output toward drafts: an always-A proposal with target P(A)=0.8 yields P(A)=0.96. Preserve and emit the mismatched target token instead of resampling it.

Fixed in 23401b634: _verify_block now returns the mismatched target sample (rejected_sample), _step stores it on tail.meta["dspark_sampled_id"], and DeepseekV41TextEncoder.generate consumes it directly instead of resampling from the same hidden state.

[P1] _verify_block() now returns rejected_sample, _step() preserves it as dspark_sampled_id, and the text encoder consumes it without resampling. This removes the reported sampling bias.

[P2] With Ulysses enabled, build_deepseek_v41_vit_metadata slices the rotary tables, but generate passes the full patch tensor into _encode. For example, 12 patches on two ranks produce 12 query rows against 6 rotary rows and fail in _apply_rotary. Apply sp_pad_and_slice to patches, as the training hook does.

[P2] The added sp_pad_and_slice(patches, dim=0, pad_value=0) now matches the rotary-table slicing before _encode(), fixing the reported Ulysses shape mismatch.

[P2] Setting only ep_size or an emb size for inference selects distributed construction, but the runtime still reaches the base builder's unconditional rejection of fsdp_mode='eager'. Since eager is the inference default, these modules fail before loading weights. Normalize this combination to a supported ExtraParallel-only build or implement that build branch.

[P2] OmniModuleRuntimeArguments.__post_init__() now converts eager modules requiring EP/emb to fsdp2 with extra_parallel_only=True, avoiding the eager-mode rejection. The new argument-resolution test covers both EP and emb.

Review comments at @veomni/arguments/arguments_types.py:
- Around line 690-701: Update the `extra_parallel_only` help text to describe
its supported training use as well as inference, noting that unnamed parameters
remain replicated and their gradients are averaged across the FSDP group.
Preserve the existing explanation of quantized checkpoints and skipping the
FSDP2 wrap.

Review comments at @veomni/distributed/torch_parallelize.py:
- Around line 472-475: In the FSDP2 setup, reject enable_fsdp_cpu_offload when
the extra_parallel_only path is active, before choosing materialize_device;
raise a clear configuration error explaining that this path has no FSDP2 unit to
stage CPU-offloaded parameters onto the device.

Review comments at
@veomni/models/seed_omni/modules/deepseek_v41/ngram/modeling.py:
- Around line 96-100: After building primes and before registering the buffers,
validate each layer’s num_embeddings against the sum of its drawn prime values;
reject counts below that minimum while allowing larger counts. Use
config.layer_ids, primes, and config.num_embeddings to identify corresponding
layers and report the layer and required row count in the error.

Review comments at @veomni/utils/save_safetensor_utils.py:
- Around line 457-458: In merge_pending_hf_shards, validate marker-derived paths
before merging: require pending["sharded_dir"] to match
layout.HF_SHARDED_DIRNAME and reject tensor file names containing path
components. Build sharded_path from the constant so merge writes and cleanup
remain within save_path.

Update the extra_parallel_only help text. It says "Inference only", but the training configs set this flag.

The training configs enable extra_parallel_only on trainable modules, for example configs/seed_omni/DeepSeek/deepseek_v41_flash/train/modules_train.yaml at lines 37 and 62. The gradient path already supports training with this flag: both clip paths average the gradients of replicated parameters across the FSDP group. The help text should describe the training use.

Update the `extra_parallel_only` help text to describe its supported training
use as well as inference, noting that unnamed parameters remain replicated and
their gradients are averaged across the FSDP group. Preserve the existing
explanation of quantized checkpoints and skipping the FSDP2 wrap.

Refuse enable_fsdp_offload on the extra_parallel_only path.

CPUOffloadPolicy is the only part of FSDP2 that stages CPU parameters onto the device for compute. The no-wrap path has no FSDP2 unit. With offload enabled, Line 475 materializes every parameter on CPU, and Lines 494-495 move only the buffers to the accelerator. The first forward then mixes CPU weights with accelerator activations and fails on a device mismatch. The message gives no hint that the cause is this config combination.

Require enough rows for the drawn prime layout.

validate_bucket_layout checks only the floor n_hash_cols * hash_vocab_size. A hash ID can reach sum(primes[layer]) - 1. If num_embeddings is below that sum, the lookup can read zero-filled padding or fail because the physical table is too small.

Do not require exact equality. Existing synthetic configurations use num_embeddings=[1024], while their prime sum is 462. The released defaults use the prime-sum counts. Reject only counts below the required sum:

After building primes and before registering the buffers, validate each layer’s
num_embeddings against the sum of its drawn prime values; reject counts below
that minimum while allowing larger counts. Use config.layer_ids, primes, and
config.num_embeddings to identify corresponding layers and report the layer and
required row count in the error.

Validate marker-derived paths before the merge and rmtree.

merge_pending_hf_shards reads sharded_dir and each file value from the marker JSON. It joins them to save_path without checking them. The merge then writes to os.path.join(save_path, t["file"]) and calls shutil.rmtree(sharded_path). save_hf_safetensor always writes layout.HF_SHARDED_DIRNAME as sharded_dir. A downloaded or edited export can contain a marker with "sharded_dir": ".." or an absolute path. Running scripts/merge_hf_export.py on that export then deletes the parent directory or writes outside the export.

Use the constant for the shard directory. Reject file names that contain a path component.

The PyAV fallback decodes every frame into RAM. This can cause out-of-memory (OOM) kills in DataLoader workers.

Line 168 converts every frame in the container to an rgb24 ndarray before _sample_frame_indices picks the kept frames. The comment at the call site (Lines 219-220) says only the sampled frames are decoded, "so a long clip never lands fully in memory". This fallback breaks that guarantee.

A 5-minute 1080p clip at 30 fps needs about 9,000 frames × 6 MB, which is roughly 55 GB. The fallback runs exactly when libtorchcodec fails to load, so a clip like this can take down a worker.

Count the frames first, using stream.frames or a decode-only pass without ndarray conversion. Then convert only the frames at the sampled indices.

This keeps peak memory at the sampled frames only. stream.frames can be 0 or inaccurate for some containers. The mismatch check turns an inaccurate count into a clear error instead of a KeyError.

[P2] With fsdp_scope: model and BF16 FSDP2, checkpointing captures FP32 rotary tables before the block's FSDP hook casts them. Recompute skips that cast, so _apply_rotary saves different table dtypes and backward raises a checkpoint metadata mismatch. Normalize fixed cos/sin to a stable dtype before multiplication and cover composed-FSDP backward.

[P1] This import resolves to nonexistent veomni.models.ops.config, so a quantized LLM without an explicit module-level moe_implementation fails during construction with ModuleNotFoundError. Both supplied inference module configs take this fallback. Import get_ops_config from veomni.ops.config using an absolute import or five leading dots, and test the fallback.
