What does this PR do?

In GRPO-style RL a micro-batch carries n rollouts of one prompt, each packed as prompt + response,
so packed training computes every prompt n times. With text_config.shared_prefix_training: true, the
Qwen3.5 model detects packed sequences that share a token prefix, runs the decoder stack on a compact
row in which each shared prefix appears once, and restores the packed layout for the outputs. Callers
see identical shapes; gradients from every rollout sum into the shared prefix.

Both modeling paths are supported: NPU with the vendored Triton kernels, GPU with
flash-linear-attention. On Qwen3.5-4B an actor train step is 2.92-5.41x faster, update_actor 2.7-3.3x,
and actor peak memory roughly halves, at an identical configuration with upstream verl. Nothing is
required from the trainer beyond keeping a prompt's rollouts in one micro-batch, which is configuration
only.

Related work this follows rather than reinvents: tree training in AReaL, its GDN extension HARTS
(areal-project/AReaL#1765) and OpenPipe ART, specialised here to the two-level tree a rollout group forms.

Checklist Before Starting

Test

Two new tests, both listed in gpu_unit_tests.yml and npu_unit_tests.yml:

  • tests/models/test_qwen3_5_shared_prefix.py — CPU, 25 cases against float64 reference kernels
    (convolution, gated delta rule, attention, LM rows, index layouts, kernel-call counts, grouping).
    Listed in gpu_unit_tests.yml and npu_unit_tests.yml.
  • tests/models/test_qwen3_5_shared_prefix_accelerator.py — toy config on the accelerator present,
    feature off vs on within twice the packed-training noise floor, plus an assertion that the shared
    path actually ran. It differs across the two paths only in the device it builds on and the GDN
    backends it asks for, so it is one test rather than two. Listed in both gpu_unit_tests.yml and
    npu_unit_tests.yml; skips without an accelerator. Verified passing on both: NPU with
    causal_conv1d (npu) / chunk_gated_delta_rule (npu) / rms_norm_gated (npu), GPU with the fla
    backends.

Validation beyond CI, on a real Qwen3.5-4B (Ascend 910B2C, CANN 9.1.1, torch_npu 2.10.0), feature on vs
off through a verl-style fused log-prob call with gradient checkpointing. The floor is the difference
between running the same sequences one per call and packed together — what differing kernel shapes
produce by themselves:

prefix variant log-prob max abs diff grad rel diff median / p90 / max (426 params)
1990 (unaligned) floor 7.3e-2 2.3e-2 / 3.6e-2 / 1.1e-1
shared 8.1e-2 1.9e-2 / 2.6e-2 / 5.8e-2
6912 (aligned) floor 0 7.5e-3 / 1.2e-2 / 2.6e-2
shared 9.8e-4 7.4e-3 / 1.3e-2 / 2.7e-2

Training is unchanged. One epoch of GRPO on the public DocQA-RL-1.6K (16 prompts per step, 77 steps),
same data and order, feature off vs on:

docqa_curves
first 10 steps -> last 10 baseline shared prefix
reward 0.684 -> 0.760 0.650 -> 0.761
entropy 0.416 -> 0.360 0.417 -> 0.303
grad norm 1.861 -> 1.421 1.732 -> 1.412
policy loss 0.066 -> 0.019 0.082 -> 0.018
response length 384 -> 448 377 -> 419
rollout-vs-training KL ~5e-4 ~5e-4
actor peak memory 42.1 GB 19.7 GB
median step time (steps 2-77) 53.0 s 35.1 s

Both arms ran the same 77 steps of the same data in the same order, both at micro batch 8, on two
cards of the same type, each with an empty Triton cache. Reward, gradient norm, policy loss, response
length and the rollout-vs-training KL follow the same trajectories and the two arms finish at the same
reward (0.760 vs 0.761). Entropy runs lower on the shared-prefix arm throughout, the gap opening
around step 10. Two independent RL runs drift apart regardless of seeding — weights differ by
bf16-level noise after the first update and the sampled responses follow — so with one run per arm
this is not separable from run-to-run variation; an earlier pair had the gap in the other direction.

Performance. Model level, one card, train step (forward + backward), gradient checkpointing, median
of 5 with spread under 1%. The bound is the token ratio n(P+R) / (P+nR). The same five shapes on both
devices — Ascend 910B2C with the npu backends, NVIDIA H20 with fla:

model_level
prefix n NPU train step GPU train step bound NPU eff GPU eff
4096 4 5449 -> 1848 ms, 2.95x 5137 -> 1758 ms, 2.92x 3.40x 0.87 0.86
6912 4 8893 -> 2911 ms, 3.05x 8587 -> 2771 ms, 3.10x 3.61x 0.85 0.86
6912 4, two groups — 17140 -> 5426 ms, 3.16x 3.61x — 0.87
6912 8 17426 -> 3380 ms, 5.16x 17139 -> 3168 ms, 5.41x 6.40x 0.81 0.85
16384 4 21476 -> 6763 ms, 3.18x 21990 -> 6554 ms, 3.36x 3.82x 0.83 0.88

Efficiency is 0.81-0.88 across a 4x range of prompt lengths, and the two devices agree to within a few
percent at every shape they share — so the speedup is close to 0.85 x bound whatever the bound is.

On GPU, peak memory on the same five shapes goes 19.7 -> 17.9, 21.8 -> 18.1, 29.3 -> 19.4,
29.3 -> 18.5 and 32.4 -> 19.7 GiB.

End to end, upstream verl 8718ca3 unmodified, 8 cards, GRPO on the public DocQA-RL-1.6K,
n=4, 16 prompts per step. The first three rows are medians over steps 2-10 on a warm Triton
cache; the fourth is a full epoch from cold:

both arms at prompts step update_actor available bound efficiency actor peak memory
micro batch 4 (one group) ~5.8k 80.2 -> 50.5 s, 1.59x 41.8 -> 15.1 s, 2.77x 3.40x 0.81 35.3 -> 19.4 GB
micro batch 8 (two groups) ~5.8k 62.0 -> 40.4 s, 1.53x 28.5 -> 9.9 s, 2.86x 3.40x 0.84 35.5 -> 17.9 GB
micro batch 2 (group split) ~10.8k 175.8 -> 113.0 s, 1.56x 111.8 -> 61.7 s, 1.81x 1.92x 0.94 39.3 -> 26.0 GB
micro batch 8, 77 steps, cold cache ~5.8k 53.0 -> 35.1 s, 1.51x 22.3 -> 8.4 s, 2.66x 3.40x 0.78 42.1 -> 19.7 GB

Every pair is the same configuration on both arms, same machine, back to back; only
shared_prefix_training differs. A micro batch must hold whole rollout groups — multiples of n — or a
group is split and only part of it shares a prefix, which is the third row: at micro batch 2 with n=4
just two rollouts share, the bound halves to 1.92x, and the measured 1.81x is 94% of it.

Rollout (~19-24 s) and weight sync are outside the feature's reach, which is why the step speedup is
smaller than the update_actor speedup.

The same end-to-end comparison on 8 H20s, one epoch, medians over steps 2-77:

gpu_end_to_end_77
metric baseline shared prefix ratio
step 36.8 s 21.7 s 1.70x
update_actor 21.1 s 7.7 s 2.73x
old_log_prob 5.8 s 2.3 s 2.57x
gen 8.3 s 10.2 s 0.81x
actor peak memory 39.8 GB 18.3 GB

The step ratio here is a floor. For the same drift reason, this shared arm settled on longer answers
(498 tokens against 135), which makes its generation slower — the one part of a step the feature does
not touch. A 20-step pair whose arms stayed close (314 against 290) gave 2.09x on the step and 3.33x on
update_actor.

The training side is unaffected, because the prompt dominates the packed length: the arms process
355,954 against 377,929 tokens per step, 1.06x apart. Per million tokens processed, update_actor is
59.22 -> 20.41 s (2.90x) and old_log_prob 16.41 -> 6.01 s (2.73x). Both arms learn: reward
0.647 -> 0.719 and 0.668 -> 0.738.

On ~10.8k-token prompts the baseline cannot reach a micro batch that holds a whole group at all: it OOMs
at micro batch 4 and 8 on a 910B2C (57.4 GiB allocated, +2.3 GiB requested inside update_actor), so it
is stuck at micro batch 2. Shared prefix runs micro batch 8 there in 25.5 GB. That is a memory result,
not a speed one, but it is what decides whether the configuration is reachable — and the low-memory arm
is also the busy one: actor MFU as verl accounts it (it does not know about the dedup, so this is
effective MFU) goes 0.15 -> 0.40 at ~5.8k / micro 8, and 0.07 -> 0.36 between the two arms' best feasible
settings at ~10.8k.

API and Usage Example

One config field, default off, set in the config.json of the model directory the trainer loads.
Detection is internal to the patched modeling, so a trainer driving VeOmni needs no flag of its own
and no adapter code:

{ "text_config": { "shared_prefix_training": true } }

From verl, with no verl change — point hf_config_path at a copy of the config directory carrying the
field (weights still load from model.path):

actor_rollout_ref.model.hf_config_path=<config dir with the field>
actor_rollout_ref.model.use_fused_kernels=True # log-probs inside the model, where the LM head dedups
trainer.use_v1=False # the legacy trainer can keep a group on one rank
actor_rollout_ref.actor.use_prefix_grouper=True    # group-balanced _balance_batch
actor_rollout_ref.actor.use_dynamic_bsz=False
actor_rollout_ref.rollout.log_prob_use_dynamic_bsz=False
actor_rollout_ref.actor.shuffle=False
actor_rollout_ref.actor.ppo_micro_batch_size_per_gpu=<multiple of n; 2n measured best>
actor_rollout_ref.rollout.log_prob_micro_batch_size_per_gpu=<same>

A group split across micro-batches is still correct, only slower.

Design & Code Changes

Token-wise work (projections, norms, MLP, gates) runs unchanged on the compact row. Three mixers consume
the plan, each a fixed number of kernel calls per layer regardless of group count or n:

  • Gated DeltaNet, two varlen calls: the prefix runs to its last 64-token chunk boundary and exports
    its state; the remaining tail (< 64 tokens) is replayed in front of every suffix, which starts from
    that state. Exporting state only at chunk boundaries keeps the chunk partition identical to unshared
    training.
  • Causal conv1d, one varlen call: each suffix is preceded by the last kernel_size - 1 prefix rows
    as look-back context, whose outputs are dropped. No conv state is passed, so the state-carrying
    convolution backward is not used.
  • Full attention, one varlen call: a prefix attends to itself and each suffix to [prefix | suffix]
    keys, bottom-right causal.
  • LM head / log-probs: each distinct (compact row, next-token label) pair is scored once and the
    per-token log_probs / entropy are expanded back.
  • Grouping is by token equality over cu_seq_lens_q and identical position ids. Candidates sharing a
    head are sorted and split to maximise tokens saved, so prompts that share a system prompt stay
    separate groups.

Changes:

  • veomni/models/transformers/qwen3_5/shared_prefix.py (new): the plan, the three mixer wrappers and
    the LM-row deduplication.
  • qwen3_5_npu_patch_gen_config.py: TextModel compacts its inputs, DecoderLayer passes the plan through,
    GatedDeltaNet branches at the conv and delta-rule calls, and Qwen3_5Attention.forward gains an
    override (it had none).
  • qwen3_5_gpu_patch_gen_config.py: the shared ForConditionalGeneration.forward builds the plan and
    deduplicates the LM-head rows, where the text-only guard lives; and, as on NPU, TextModel compacts,
    DecoderLayer passes the plan through, GatedDeltaNet branches at the conv and delta-rule calls and
    Qwen3_5Attention.forward gains an override.
  • generated/: regenerated by patchgen, never hand-edited. The NPU patch config imports from the GPU
    one and Qwen3_5Moe reuses the GatedDeltaNet patches from both through name_map, so the change
    reaches four generated files. The MoE plumbing is inert: nothing there builds a plan, so
    shared_prefix_plan is always None and shared-prefix training stays unsupported for MoE.
  • docs/examples/qwen3_5.md: a Shared-prefix training section.
  • veomni/ops/kernels/gated_delta_rule/_ascend/triton/utils.py: prepare_chunk_indices / prepare_lens
    / prepare_chunk_offsets are tensor-identity caches of size 3 / 1 / 1. With three cu_seqlens layouts
    used in turn per layer they thrash and every sub-kernel pays a host sync (.tolist()). Raised to
    16 / 8 / 16; plan-path GDN forward 11.2 -> 9.4 ms at 6.9k prefix with n=4.

Limitations, each enforced with a raise or a silent fall-back to the ordinary path:

  • Text-only: no grouping when pixel_values / pixel_values_videos are present, because placeholder
    token ids are shared across different media.
  • Not with Ulysses SP, MTP or KV cache.
  • Dense Qwen3.5. MoE needs router statistics weighted by token multiplicity (as HARTS does); not done.
  • Two-level trees, i.e. one shared prefix per group. Multi-turn trees with append-only histories would
    need a multi-round plan.
  • Gains grow with prefix length and n; below roughly 1k-token prefixes the per-call overhead dominates.

The feature is opt-in and normally confined to one training batch. An unsupported state-reuse combination may modify caller-owned state instead of failing cleanly. Broader access or privilege expansion was not established.

Retained concerns

  • Low · reliability · inferred: The source-defined shared-prefix path does not fully enforce its no-cache lifecycle boundary. With an eligible packed batch, an existing past_key_values object and use_cache=false pass the text-model guard and reach cache-writing consumers. In the GPU recurrent path, shared execution sets last_recurrent_state to None and the existing updater stores that value in the caller-owned cache. This can leave externally retained state invalid for subsequent calls, including after partial failure. The documented prohibition and opt-in configuration limit exposure; cross-user disclosure and deployed runtime behavior were not established.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated exposure is the invoking training process, its current packed batch, and any cache object explicitly supplied by its caller. Token content influences grouping, but the cache-lifecycle concern additionally requires feature enablement, eligible metadata, and caller-controlled cache arguments. No cross-tenant deployment or additional authority was established.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • inferred — For ordinary uncached execution, plans and exported prefix states are local to an invocation, and distinct suffixes receive separate row and state selections. This supports sequence isolation within the documented training flow; it does not establish isolation for cache-bearing or externally shared-state invocations.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Without an external cache, the inspected sharing mechanism retains no reusable recurrent state on the model between calls. When a cache is supplied despite the restriction, writes occur during layer execution without a restoration path in the inspected forward, so disabling the optimization afterward does not restore that caller-owned state.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Make the no-cache invariant explicit across both execution paths before compaction or cache mutation. Verify that rejected cache-bearing invocations leave caller-owned state unchanged, including when use_cache is explicitly false.

Hi @Coach257 @qcm1, friendly ping when you have a moment!

These three PRs are decoupled and ready for review:

  1. [ops] fix: stop NPU GDN Triton kernels recompiling per batch length #1264 (+9 / -9): Fixes unnecessary Triton kernel re-compilation per batch length on NPU GDN.
  2. [ops] fix: causal_conv1d over-counts dh0 when the backward tile is narrower than the conv window #1265 (+14 / -0): Fixes causal_conv1d dh0 over-counting when the backward tile is narrower than the conv window.
  3. [model, ops] feat: shared-prefix training for Qwen3.5 #1266: Shared-prefix training feature for Qwen3.5.

All automated checks and CodeRabbit suggestions have been addressed, and local tests pass cleanly. Could you please help review or approve the CI workflows when you have time? Thanks!

Heads-up on ordering: #1142 ([BREAKING][ops, model] refactor: replace OpSlot with VeomniOp) is planned to land before this PR, so please rebase onto main after it merges and build the kernel changes here on the new op registry.

What changes in #1142:

  • OpSlot / OpsConfigSlot / KERNEL_REGISTRY / KernelSpec (veomni.ops.dispatch, veomni.ops.kernel_registry) are removed.
  • Every kernel is a row registered with register_op(op, variant, impl, ..., requirement=..., requires=(...)), keyed by (op, variant, impl, device). The device is chosen with GpuKernelRequirement / NpuKernelRequirement / MluKernelRequirement.
  • Modeling code holds a handle: VeomniOp(op, variant, resolve_op_impl("<field>_implementation")). It does not read config fields or bind slots.
  • Kernels live under veomni/ops/kernels/<op>/<variant>/<impl>.py, with the rows in veomni/ops/kernels/<op>/__init__.py. Many files moved.

How to register and call an op: veomni/ops/README.md → Registering an op and Calling an op from modeling; config fields and available impls: docs/design/op_selection.md.

For this PR specifically:

  • The vendored NPU GDN Triton kernels moved from gated_delta_rule/_ascend/ to gated_delta_rule/vendor/ (for example vendor/triton/utils.py).
  • The Qwen3.5 patch_gen configs now call GDN through VeomniOp. Please re-apply the shared-prefix changes on top and re-run make patchgen.

Thanks for the heads-up and the clear migration guide @Coach257! Makes complete sense.

We will keep an eye on #1142, and as soon as it lands on main, we will:

  1. Rebase [model, ops] feat: shared-prefix training for Qwen3.5 #1266, adapt the shared-prefix logic to the new VeomniOp registry, and re-run make patchgen.
  2. Rebase [ops] fix: stop NPU GDN Triton kernels recompiling per batch length #1264 and [ops] fix: causal_conv1d over-counts dh0 when the backward tile is narrower than the conv window #1265 as well to align with the new gated_delta_rule/vendor/ layout.

Appreciate the review and guidance!

[P1] When position_ids=None, grouping ignores positions, but TextModel later creates global packed positions. Later rollout suffixes then attend to the representative prefix at a different RoPE offset, silently changing logits and gradients. Skip sharing without validated positions, or construct consistent per-sequence positions before building the plan.

Fixed in ec4b26bd. When position_ids is None in shared-prefix training, we now construct consistent per-sequence positions [0, 1, ..., len-1] and pass them to self.model so TextModel does not generate global packed arange positions and RoPE offsets match across sequences. Added regression tests in tests/models/test_qwen3_5_shared_prefix.py.

[P1] npu_ascendc also reaches this branch, but its backward discards dht and returns dh0=None. Shared-prefix execution passes the prefix's final state into suffix calls, so this silently drops suffix gradients through that state. Reject npu_ascendc here or fall back to ordinary packed execution.

Fixed in ec4b26bd. We now explicitly reject the npu_ascendc backend with an actionable NotImplementedError when shared_prefix_plan is active, noting that it discards dht and returns dh0=None, and advising to use the 'npu' (Triton) backend.

[P2] With output_hidden_states=True, the decoder captures tensors of length compact_length, but this only expands the local LM-head input and outputs.hidden_states is returned unchanged. Consumers aligning hidden states with the original tokens or labels now get incompatible lengths. Expand the captured hidden-state tensors with the plan before returning them.

Fixed in ec4b26bd. When output_hidden_states=True, outputs.hidden_states is now expanded with shared_prefix_plan.expand(h) before returning so consumers receive full packed-length tensors. Added a unit test in test_expand_output_hidden_states.

Hi @Coach257,

Following up on your earlier note: now that #1142 has landed, this PR has been rebased onto latest main:

  • Adapted GatedDeltaNet and Attention layers to the new VeomniOp interface and kernel registry.
  • Re-ran patchgen to regenerate both GPU and NPU modeling files for Qwen3.5 and Qwen3.5-MoE.
  • All unit tests (tests/models/test_qwen3_5_shared_prefix.py), code formatting (ruff), and CI checks are green.

Ready for review when you have a moment. Thanks!

Reviewed the shared-prefix training design and implementation after the rebase onto #1142. The chunk-aligned GDN split (aligned + tail) and varlen attention/conv1d formulations are very clean. Left a few inline comments on edge cases around lm_rows deduplication, attention_mask compaction, and guard placement.

lm_rows deduplication changes scalar loss when shared-prefix tokens have valid labels (!= IGNORE_INDEX), and conflicts with non-zero logits_to_keep

  1. When return_log_probs=True, hidden_states and shift_labels are deduplicated to length U = len(lm_rows) before calling self.loss_function(...), and only fused_linear_aux.log_probs / fused_linear_aux.entropy are expanded back via lm_inverse on lines 1954–1955. If all prompt tokens have shift_labels == IGNORE_INDEX (-100), every valid suffix token has a distinct expand_index so loss is unaffected. However, if any shared-prefix position has a valid label (!= -100) — e.g. multi-turn / SFT prefixes, or the test cases in test_qwen3_5_shared_prefix.py:261 and test_qwen3_5_shared_prefix_accelerator.py:72 where all labels are valid — each deduplicated prefix token is weighted 1x instead of nx in the mean reduction, silently changing output.loss (the tests currently mask this by backwarding out.log_probs.sum() + out.loss * 0). Consider either restricting deduplication inside lm_rows to IGNORE_INDEX rows / prompt-masked prefixes, or recomputing loss from the expanded log_probs.
  2. Line 1936 (hidden_states = hidden_states[:, slice_indices, :]) still slices hidden_states by logits_to_keep after lm_rows deduplication while kwargs["shift_labels"] stays at length U, which will raise a shape mismatch in loss_function if a caller passes a non-zero logits_to_keep.

Addressed in commit 8f42fc0e:

  1. When lm_inverse is active and scalar loss is computed, loss is recomputed from the expanded log_probs (-fused_linear_aux.log_probs[valid_mask].sum() / valid_mask.sum().clamp_min(1)), preserving exact mathematical equivalence with packed training where each rollout's prompt tokens contribute to the loss mean.
  2. Slicing by logits_to_keep is now guarded by if lm_inverse is None:, and lm_rows deduplication is bypassed if logits_to_keep > 0 (falling back to standard expansion to preserve sequence order).

Clear attention_mask = None (and guard past_key_values is not None) when shared_prefix_plan is not None

  1. inputs_embeds and position_ids are compacted from [1, T, ...] to [1, C, ...], and cu_seq_lens_q/k are popped from kwargs, but attention_mask (shape [1, T]) is left untouched and passed into create_causal_mask and create_recurrent_attention_mask on lines 582–593:
    • When attention_mask is all-ones [1, T], both create_causal_mask and create_recurrent_attention_mask execute torch.all(attention_mask == 1), causing two unnecessary GPU-to-CPU scalar syncs (aten::_local_scalar_dense) per micro-step.
    • Under torch.compile (is_tracing(attention_mask)) or if attention_mask contains any 0, create_recurrent_attention_mask slices attention_mask[:, -C:] from the [1, T] packed mask (misaligning it with compact hidden_states in apply_mask_to_padding_states), and create_causal_mask returns a [1, T] mask that mismatches compact Q (C) / gathered K.
      Setting attention_mask = None in this block (and in qwen3_5_npu_patch_gen_config.py:556-563) avoids both the host syncs and the shape mismatch.
  2. Consider checking if return_mtp_context or use_cache or past_key_values is not None: on line 569, since Qwen3_5Attention.forward updates past_key_values whenever past_key_values is not None even if use_cache=False.

Move the sequence-parallelism guard before build_shared_prefix_plan / compact

Checking get_parallel_state().ulysses_enabled inside Qwen3_5GatedDeltaNet.forward is too late: when SP (get_parallel_state().sp_enabled) is enabled, SequenceParallelCollator slices input_ids to T // sp_size while cu_seq_lens_q retains the full packed length T (and even if input_ids is unsliced, Qwen3_5Model.forward:1482 slices inputs_embeds to T // sp_size). As a result, build_shared_prefix_plan in Qwen3_5ForConditionalGeneration.forward or shared_prefix_plan.compact(inputs_embeds) in Qwen3_5TextModel.forward will fail with an IndexError before reaching any GatedDeltaNet layer. Moving if get_parallel_state().sp_enabled: raise NotImplementedError(...) to Qwen3_5ForConditionalGeneration.forward (around line 1869) and Qwen3_5TextModel.forward (line 569) ensures a clean error.

Also reject self.veomni_chunk_gated_delta_rule.impl == "eager" on NPU

The GPU config (qwen3_5_gpu_patch_gen_config.py:469) guards against self.veomni_chunk_gated_delta_rule.impl == "eager" because eager ignores cu_seqlens in shared_prefix_plan.gated_delta_rule. We should include the same impl == "eager" check here on NPU alongside "fla_npu".

Hi @Coach257,

Thank you for the thorough and insightful review! All 5 items have been addressed in commit 8f42fc0e:

  1. lm_rows deduplication & loss recomputation:
    • Recomputed scalar loss from expanded log_probs (-fused_linear_aux.log_probs[valid_mask].sum() / valid_mask.sum().clamp_min(1)) whenever lm_inverse is active and loss is computed, guaranteeing that shared-prefix tokens with valid labels contribute $n\times$ to the mean loss.
    • Guarded hidden_states slicing with if lm_inverse is None: and bypassed lm_rows deduplication whenever logits_to_keep > 0 (falling back to standard expansion to preserve sequence order).
  2. Attention mask & KV cache guards in TextModel:
    • Set attention_mask = None under if shared_prefix_plan is not None: in both GPU and NPU configs to eliminate CPU-GPU scalar synchronizations (torch.all(attention_mask == 1)) and prevent shape mismatches.
    • Expanded the cache guard to if return_mtp_context or use_cache or past_key_values is not None:.
  3. Early Sequence Parallelism guards:
    • Moved if get_parallel_state().sp_enabled: raise NotImplementedError(...) early into Qwen3_5ForConditionalGeneration.forward and Qwen3_5TextModel.forward, cleanly failing before sequence slicing or plan construction. Updated the linear attention guard to check sp_enabled.
  4. Reject impl == "eager" on NPU:
    • Added if self.veomni_chunk_gated_delta_rule.impl == "eager": raise RuntimeError(...) to the NPU GDN forward path alongside "fla_npu".
  5. Canonical attention alias:
    • Updated tests/models/test_qwen3_5_shared_prefix_accelerator.py to canonical attn_implementation="veomni_flash_attention_2".

Re-ran patchgen across GPU, NPU, and MoE configs, and all 32 unit tests (tests/models/test_qwen3_5_shared_prefix.py) and linters pass cleanly.
