Summary

  • stop Git diff commands from starting a login shell, avoiding user shell initialization stalls
  • load PR/MR status independently from branch diff statistics and publish it as soon as it is available
  • add regression coverage and document the environment-panel loading behavior

Root cause

Opening a task waited for the combined environment request. The branch diff shortstat command used bash -lc; on the affected machine the login shell entered SDKMAN initialization and hit the 10-second device command timeout before Git started. PR status was also coupled to the slow diff result, so the UI could not render it early.

Verification

  • Wework ESLint, TypeScript, and unit tests
  • Executor cargo test --all-features --lib and Clippy via pre-push
  • focused Backend command-registry regression test
  • desktop E2E change-request-status with a 4-second PR-status assertion
  • real Tauri session against the affected repository: environment Git commands completed in 25-136 ms instead of timing out at 10 seconds

Task: WEWORKC2FA61-301

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Git branch, remote, pull request/merge request status, and change statistics now load concurrently.
    • Pull request/merge request status appears as soon as it is available, while diff statistics continue loading.
    • Intermediate environment information can update the workspace before all details are ready.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Git lookups no longer load personal shell configuration, reducing delays caused by shell startup settings.
  • Documentation

    • Updated project documentation to describe parallel Git information loading and partial status updates.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Git diff commands now use non-login Bash. Environment loading runs Git metadata lookups concurrently and emits partial information before diff statistics finish. Workbench state applies partial and final results with request freshness checks.

Changes

Git command execution

Layer / File(s) Summary
Non-login Git command execution
backend/app/services/device/command_registry.py, executor/src/local/app_ipc.rs, backend/tests/services/test_local_device_command_service.py
Git diff commands use bash -c instead of bash -lc. Tests verify the command prefixes and arguments.
Environment API partial loading
wework/src/api/environment.ts, wework/src/api/environment.test.ts
Git metadata loads concurrently. Partial information is emitted before diff statistics. Cached loads replay and broadcast partial state.
Workbench result application
wework/src/components/layout/useWorkbenchPaneEnvironment.ts, wework/src/components/layout/DesktopWorkbenchLayout.test.tsx, wework/e2e/desktop/scenarios/change-request-status.scenario.mjs
The workbench applies partial results with loading state and rejects stale requests. Related assertions and scenario timing are updated.
Project documentation
docs/en/wework/projects.md, docs/zh/wework/projects.md
The English and Chinese documentation describe concurrent Git lookups, partial status rendering, and non-login shell execution.

The change separates PR status from branch diff loading, but the end-to-end scenario does not exercise a delayed diff, so it can pass without proving that status appears first. Add the delayed-diff assertion or explicitly accept this bounded merge-readiness gap before merging.

📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Test the delayed-diff condition.

This scenario does not delay git diff. A sequential environment loader can pass this check when the local diff completes quickly.

Add a Git fixture that delays only the diff command. Assert that #2631 is visible before releasing that delay. Remove timeoutMs: 4_000 so this ordinary UI wait uses the shared timeout.
