Summary

  • transfer keyboard focus from the sidebar conversation row to the matching active composer after opening a conversation
  • add unit and desktop E2E regression coverage for the real active element
  • remove detached ai:verify startup deadlocks caused by heredoc/command-substitution pipes and document the new focus inspection command
  • stabilize project-space issue creation tests by using the existing paste interaction path instead of per-character ProseMirror updates

Verification

  • pnpm --filter wework test (405 files, 4126 tests passed before syncing latest main)
  • pre-push Wework checks after syncing latest main: ESLint, TypeScript, and all unit tests passed
  • pnpm --filter wework test src/components/layout/BufferedChatInput.test.tsx src/components/layout/DesktopWorkbenchLayout.test.tsx (214 tests passed)
  • pnpm --filter wework test src/features/todo/CloudTodoWorkspace.test.tsx (70 tests passed)
  • real isolated Tauri QA via ai:verify: created a local project and task, opened New Task, clicked the existing sidebar conversation once, and verified active-element returned chat-message-input without a second composer click
  • bash -n wework/scripts/dev-mac-app.sh
  • node --check wework/scripts/ai-verify.mjs

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • Reopening or activating a conversation now places keyboard focus in the appropriate chat composer.
    • Focus remains in its current location when the composer is disabled or belongs to another conversation.
    • Improved reliability for database operations during concurrent activity.
  • Testing
    • Added automated coverage for composer focus behavior and active-element verification.
  • Developer Tools
    • Added a desktop verification command for inspecting the currently focused interface element.

Review Change Stack

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The workbench now uses scoped events to focus the active task composer after navigation. Desktop verification can query the active element. SQLite engines configure concurrent-access pragmas. The macOS app and Alembic scripts use revised inline input handling.

Changes

Composer focus flow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Scoped composer focus contract and handling
wework/src/lib/workbenchComposerFocus.ts, wework/src/components/layout/BufferedChatInput.tsx, wework/src/components/layout/BufferedChatInput.test.tsx
Adds a scoped focus event and focuses matching enabled composers. Tests cover matching, non-matching, and disabled composers.
Runtime task focus and verification
wework/src/components/layout/DesktopWorkbenchLayout.tsx, wework/src/e2e/automation.ts, wework/scripts/ai-verify.mjs, wework/AGENTS.md, wework/e2e/desktop/modules/conversation-navigation.mjs
Runtime task activation requests composer focus. Desktop verification exposes active-element, and conversation navigation checks the composer test ID.

SQLite concurrency configuration

Layer / File(s) Summary
SQLite engine configuration and validation
backend/app/db/session.py, backend/tests/db/test_session.py
SQLite engines use a 30-second connection timeout, WAL mode, and a 30-second busy timeout. Tests verify the pragmas.

macOS app script execution

Layer / File(s) Summary
Port selection and Tauri configuration
wework/scripts/dev-mac-app.sh
Port selection stores its result in AVAILABLE_WEWORK_PORT. Tauri configuration generation uses python3 -c.

Test and hook command updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Issue creation test interaction updates
wework/src/features/todo/CloudTodoWorkspace.test.tsx
Issue-creation tests use local userEvent instances and paste issue titles into the composer.
Alembic head check input handling
scripts/hooks/check-alembic-heads.sh
Revision and head iteration uses process substitution with printf.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 24184

The change improves keyboard focus when opening conversations, but focus may still occasionally remain on the sidebar during composer mounting or workspace switching. The PR is mergeable with explicit owner awareness of this bounded interaction risk and the minor typing follow-up.

can be registered after the one-shot requestAnimationFrame dispatch, causing the

registration occurs before the mounted composer can receive the request, and add
a navigation regression test covering the runtime task view opening and composer
focus behavior.

Add type annotations to the changed Python callables.

Line 25 leaves the connection-listener parameters untyped. Lines 8-11 leave pytest fixture parameters and the test return type untyped. Add annotations that support both configured SQLite drivers, and annotate the test fixtures and None return value.

  • backend/app/db/session.py#L25-L25: annotate both listener parameters.
  • backend/tests/db/test_session.py#L8-L11: annotate monkeypatch, tmp_path, and the test return type.

As per coding guidelines, **/*.py requires “type hints for Python.”
